Heard an interview with Ian Tyson. If I recall, this song came to him easily, less than an hour, and he was writing about a relationship he had with a First Nations girl. It's a heartbreaker for sure!
The best of all versions - Neil Young
Agree!! The ensemble of musicians is just beautiful. Does anyone know who the female BV singing harmonies on his left is? She is wonderful!! ELH is on his right, but she her voice is very soft.
Got it! His late wife Peggy. She blends so well with him, even though he often sings off key...have heard he does it deliberately just to shock the listener and make a new sound. :)
Brilliant version of a brilliant song.
Possibly one of Young’s best vocal performances and that band ain’t too shabby either.
I requested this song in a Irish pub,was on a canadian ship stopped at Harland and Wolfe,Belfast, where the Unsinkable Titanic was built no body wanted to dance,so I danced solo,to 4 strong wind, didn't care for there was a good time to be had😮
1 OF THE ALL TIME GREATS
Nicolette Larsson sang back up with Neil on this song back in the eighties, sadly she has left us but never forgotten.
Beautiful song.

Neil Young gets in your soul, and stays there.
No singer can sing this song better than Neil Young, so heart warming and full of emotion, and just like old wine, time will make it better. My love for it grows stronger day by day.
The one and only, such a legend, long live Neil Young, love this man for his "extremely epic" music..... Long, long may he REIGN!
Hello Lynda
How are you doing today?
If you have a huge heart and you have really loved someone, I mean "real loved someone" and have had to earn to live on this earth without that soul mate, then you will cry each time you hear this old canadian, beautiful song.
Theresa Luker I know what you are talking about. It’s been 32 years and it doesn’t get any better.
Theresa Luker you are right - Neil Young is the only Hippie besides Joni Mitchell that actually created real beauty - a drug haze is not beauty 🤠
I know I do.
One of my favourite songs, found it in this movie, totally grabbed me. Could go on forever.
Hard to play anything more beautiful. Thanks, Neil and your friends, for having made my life a little brighter in all those years.
Simply love love it! Listen to it every night before going to bed! Just like when I was young!

After I saw this Nashville concert. Gained new respect. Always liked him. But never really saw in concert. He’s been around for ages a. Crosby Stills Nash andYoung. Crazy Horse. A great Canadian legend with Lightfoot.
Hello Mary, how are you doing!!!!!?
3 days in a row, wind blowing hard on the ocean, keeping me from my fishing holes. It blows so lonely in the North Pacific. Cold and lonely, way out there. Thank you, Neil; The good times are not all gone yet.
Ian Tyson is a national treasure! Come what may!
+Samjo Hagerty As is Neil. Sure am envious of Ian's ranch when I drive by...sigh...
