Hey bro it's all good man just a lot of good music in my time at my kids still love this kind of music he's 30 so don't know how old you are but just keep rocking on Happy Trails
Yes. This is literally a perfect song. I love to play it myself; it's beautiful and comforting. Neil is the king of singer-songwriters in my mind. He can play folk, country, soft rock, hard rock and more. I saw him with Crazy Horse a couple of weekends ago in Phoenix. I'm still singing songs from that night. He's one of the most real performers ever.
We have similar tastes! I play both those songs frequently. Neil was incredible in concert. Most was typical Crazy Horse numbers with hard rocking and long solos by Neil. My friend said, “do you think Neil’s back is OK, because he’s bending over so far?” I said no, he’s been jackknifing over his guitar since he was in his 20s, that’s how he rocks out😎He played for an hour and a half, no breaks. Opened with Cortez the Killer, closed with Hey Hey, My My.
The first time I heard this song, when I was 16 in 1979, was when my older sister and her musician friends got together on a lazy Sunday afternoon to smoke pot and have a jam session. They played this song and a few other Neil Young songs, along with some Led Zepplin as well. Whenever I hear this song I am taken back to that day when life was so happy and simple.
I'm 24 years old and having brain surgery today and all I can do is listen to this song and cry my eyes out, Neil Young knows how to touch my heart. thanks Neil.
Great song.. Great voice. Great music. Makes me go back to the days when life was simple then. Am 64 years old and I grew up with Neil Young's music. Just pure, soulful music.
Hi Carolina. Coming up 62, here in Bristol, England. Forgive me if potentially, this text is inappropriate in respect of any potential time difference, dependent upon where you reside. Celebrated Neil's 75th a few days ago, now living on my own these last six years, in lockdown. Played him all day and raised a glass of 75 Beaujolais, which seemed appropriate and worth the 45 year wait in decorking. Only our beautiful Joni is allowed to dine with Neil at the exclusive reserved table for singer songwriters. Named my first child after Neil,.....she wasn't happy!!!! 😅😅😅😅😅. Stay safe and well young lady in these trying times and, should you have one, may your God be with you.
I’m 62 , grew up playing Beatles, stones, zeppelin. And all the great music of days gone by on an acoustic guitar with my younger brother and 5 other friends all playing guitars hanging out in the woods with friends smoking a little and keeping the campfire going. All our friends boys and girls singing the lyrics. I’ll never forget that time in my life. Music then was good. Good memories
For all the great rockers Young has some of his most touching songs are like Sugar Mountain, Harvest Moon, Only Love Can Break Your Heart. Young, one of the greats.
Anyone who has given this a thumbs down, need to stop listening to this. Close your eyes, open your mind, and learn to feel it with your heart and soul. Then you might understand just how talented this man is. When he's gone it will be a sad sad day. But the legend of Neil young ,will live on for decades, compared to the junk people call music nowadays.
Who can watch this and deny that Neil is an accomplished musician? He literally writes the songs, sings them, and plays guitar and harmonica all at the same time. That's a special talent, a special mind. Not many people are this talented.
Takes me way back, a great song if being young and enjoying the simple things in life. I learned to play many of Neil’s best songs over the years and this is definitely a top ten!!!!😊
I'm 77 and just have gotten to know.Neil lately. I listen to him on my Tablet. I realize what I missed all those years. What a wonderful experience. Thanks for your talent Neil.
40 years ago, I sang this to my girl friend who was 19 at the time. Fast forward and I still sing it to my girl friend who is still my girl friend that I married 38 years ago. Yes, my wife has to put up with me and loves me for it.
The greatest thing a writer can do is to evoke deep emotions with their writing, so true of music, and I think Neil Young has always had that gift with his music. Every song is a collage of emotion, hitting you deep from all sides.
Honesty is the key ingredient to real art. Neil laid his soul bare when he wrote this song and delivered it from the heart. Rod Serling often explored what he once described as, "The one effort all men make at some point in their lives...trying to go home again." This is Neil Young's version of that ancient theme.
It gives joy to see a musician so in love with the music. He always seems so open, so enthusiastic about making music with a score of very top artists. including Bob Dylan.
My good friend was killed in a horrific car crash at 19 when this song came out. Sad , sad memories. We passed around the Jack and listened to this song. Burned in my brain forever. 😭
Oh to live on sugar mountain...I was 11 when I heard this and these lyrics were my mental escape from the abuse I was going through. I Love this song! Thank you for the escape Neil!

I get it Mr. Young. We've loved your music for many many years😎💯
My wife and I are on a river in Colorado, former high school teachers, farming now...I play guitar downtown. I share your Sugar Mountain joy for living. Fortunate we are.

That seems to be the key. Beautiful highly original music from the heart with harmony and feeling and soul and a bit of story telling with the emotional rollercoaster of happy to nostalgic to sad (melancholy) to hopeful. for some reason, I always cry when I hear this song... and when I got to see Mr. young earlier this year, and sang this, I closed my eyes, sang with it & tears just fell... my poor hubby, he understood 🎸🎵🎻🎹🎶
Because the song mourns his early childhood, we've all had to experience some form of that, it strikes a chord deep within us. I can hardly keep from crying when I hear it too.
The epitome of Neil's view of the world in his early career days. I was so fortunate to hear this for the first time at his first solo gig after leaving Buffalo Springfield.... He gave a week at the Troubadour in the summer of 1969 and I was extremely blessed to get a seat. The Troubadour only seated about 200 folks and my table was about three feet from the stage..... and then he sang this..... Crystalline memories. Lovely day to all of you.
Harvest was the first album I bought before I ever got a decent stereo. It's one of the few albums that I owned 2 copies of. To this day, some of Neil Young's songs will bring tears to my eyes.
Best days of my life. Thank you Tony Carson, rest in peace. We shared Neil Young all the time. 64 yrs old now, takes me back, I was 14 yrs old. Thank you Neil Young ❤
Neil wrote and played so much truly incredible music I love him since Springfield but this song always brings a tear to my eye if anyone ever wants to know what growing up is like listen
I used this song in my senior English classes for years for a kazilion reasons. Trying to get those heroes to slow down, look around, and see the times they were in as well as the good things that lay before them. After nearly 4 decades of teaching, I still perform the song at my guitar gigs downtown. Thank you, Neil! And yes, nick-wells, I play the song at almost all of my gigs. Carry on.
I have always so wished that for an evening I could just sit with him around a campfire while he plays guitar and he would sing and I could sing along with him and it would be such a gift to just be there in that moment together enjoying it all
"When I was 5 or 6 years old we had a farm...and I always remember those days as the happiest days of my life. Until I grew up and got happy." This has to be one of the best lines I have ever heard anywhere.
My favourite Neil Young song, it's beautiful. This live version is wonderful and with Willie Nelson along side and the mouth organ, it's just even more perfect. Just love the mouth organ in this song, it just adds another dimension to the already beautiful song. The lyrics just cut me up and make ne think about growing up and thought I knew everything, but realised I needed my parents more than ever. Thank you Neil ❤
This song holds the record for most released recording. It appeared as the B side of every 45 single Neil had. They were rushed for B side decision on the second single, and Neil just told 'em to slap Sugar Mountain on it again. He kept it that way for the next six as well.
Ah, the times of innocence, the times of learning to be. Neil perfectly personified these tender times we all experience when he wrote this song, when he was pretty much a child himself. He has a gift. Many more masterpieces were to come later. Thank you, Neil.
I used to listen to this song all the time when I was young from my brothers album Harvest. That's when everything was beautiful in my world my whole family was alive. Now they all are going and I walk this world alone. That was my sugar melting back when I was young I never had to worry about anyting money no problems all I had was fun with the family. I think of sugar melting as a happy place where nobody gets old and everyone stays Young and Beautiful and there is green grass and nice Meadows and a Babbling Brook with clean water. Just so beautiful and peaceful.
One time I was driving to a concert (Bridge School Benefit) in California and waiting in line in my car to pay my parking fee. I look over to my right and there's this older dude driving an old 4 door black lincoln with suicide doors. The car was cool, but not mint by any means. It was like a daily driver. The driver of the car, in a funky looking hat, was driving himself and his family to his own concert. It was Neil Young just paying the parking fee like everyone else. He showed up about 1 hour early to the gig. Ok, maybe he was comped for the parking fee. :) A great concert and memory I will never forget. Shoreline Amphitheatre in Bay Area.

The Troubadour only seated about 200 folks and my table was about three feet from the stage..... and then he sang this..... Crystalline memories. Lovely day to all of you.
Oh yes....my husband always brings a hankie when we go see the old timers...I cry and then I mark each one with the date and concert!
Truely one of rock's greatest songwriters, guitarists, vocalist, and performers. "Classic" music 4 sure.!!!!✌👍❤

Who can play 2 instruments at the same time ,great music , storytelling in songs. Just gotta love it. Truly great stuff love it.
I learnt this song when my dad was there and now he is gone. These lyrics are now like spears to my heart.
Harvest was the first album I bought before I ever got a decent stereo. It's one of the few albums that I owned 2 copies of. To this day, some of Neil Young's songs will bring tears to my eyes.
2023 I am listening to this wonderful song ! Nothing to do with the music of today

This was the last song my mom sent me before she died of a brain aneurysm. I cherish this song now with a passion I’ve never felt. Thank you.

Carry on.
sometimes I feel like Neil Young wrote the soundtrack to my life
Same here; started with After The Gold Rush and continues to this day.
I have always so wished that for an evening I could just sit with him around a campfire while he plays guitar and he would sing and I could sing along with him and it would be such a gift to just be there in that moment together enjoying it all
I would love to live on Sugarr Mountain . I love your beautiful voice. . Perfect Mr Neil . We love you ❤❤❤
One of Greatest singers .. An awesome voice ! The Real deal of the 70's ❤
I was there...great show..will always remember....thanks
@Hello Steven how are you doing
"When I was 5 or 6 years old we had a farm...and I always remember those days as the happiest days of my life. Until I grew up and got happy." This has to be one of the best lines I have ever heard anywhere.
2024 Still listening.
Canada 🇨🇦 ❤ I’m Canadian too. I love Neil Young
This man truly touches emotions.
This is my favorite NY song -- vastly underrated by even him -- what's the matter with you, Neil...this is GORGEOUS !!!
Old man here, was thinking what do you mean New York song, took a second or two to come to my senses.
🎉65 yes old still listening to Mr Young
This song holds the record for most released recording. It appeared as the B side of every 45 single Neil had. They were rushed for B side decision on the second single, and Neil just told 'em to slap Sugar Mountain on it again. He kept it that way for the next six as well.
There’s Willie too !! You can hear him pickin that ol guitar.
Awesome.
Neil Young still the best, Who's listening and watching July 19, 2022?
Just remember melted sugar is caramel!
This song will make you cry
Only 21 but this song has been my favorite for over 7 years
The genius of Neil Young🙏🏻
Sugar Mountain...so long ago...so cherished. So many concerts we shared.....so many songs. Bless you brother
Not only his music is great. He is a great person, charming, polite, humble and simple.
Because he is Canadian. Canadians are very nice humble people.
