Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. 2024 and I'm still listening to this Great Song! Anybody else?
Yes. This is literally a perfect song. I love to play it myself; it's beautiful and comforting. Neil is the king of singer-songwriters in my mind. He can play folk, country, soft rock, hard rock and more. I saw him with Crazy Horse a couple of weekends ago in Phoenix. I'm still singing songs from that night. He's one of the most real performers ever.
@@rftulie, Wow! How is he sounding? This song and Old Man are my two Favorites for personal reasons. 💛
We have similar tastes! I play both those songs frequently. Neil was incredible in concert. Most was typical Crazy Horse numbers with hard rocking and long solos by Neil. My friend said, “do you think Neil’s back is OK, because he’s bending over so far?” I said no, he’s been jackknifing over his guitar since he was in his 20s, that’s how he rocks out😎He played for an hour and a half, no breaks. Opened with Cortez the Killer, closed with Hey Hey, My My.
😅whose’s watching here? It is 2024

I'm 68 years old and I still can't get this song out of my head...
The first time I heard this song, when I was 16 in 1979, was when my older sister and her musician friends got together on a lazy Sunday afternoon to smoke pot and have a jam session. They played this song and a few other Neil Young songs, along with some Led Zepplin as well.
Whenever I hear this song I am taken back to that day when life was so happy and simple.
Nothing like great memories.
Wish I was there.

A true musician that NEVER sold out.
Well, at $200 a ticket, that's easier to say.
Sold 50% of his music rights just this week!
At $200 a ticket, why would he?

Hi Carolina.
Coming up 62, here in Bristol, England. Forgive me if potentially, this text is inappropriate in respect of any potential time difference, dependent upon where you reside.
Celebrated Neil's 75th a few days ago, now living on my own these last six years, in lockdown. Played him all day and raised a glass of 75 Beaujolais, which seemed appropriate and worth the 45 year wait in decorking.
Only our beautiful Joni is allowed to dine with Neil at the exclusive reserved table for singer songwriters.
Named my first child after Neil,.....she wasn't happy!!!!

Stay safe and well young lady in these trying times and, should you have one, may your God be with you.

Agree he’s forever “Young” I can cry like a baby when I think of the impact he has on my life 🎼🩵💙 this is the real GOAT
The greatest thing a writer can do is to evoke deep emotions with their writing, so true of music, and I think Neil Young has always had that gift with his music. Every song is a collage of emotion, hitting you deep from all sides.
Honesty is the key ingredient to real art. Neil laid his soul bare when he wrote this song and delivered it from the heart. Rod Serling often explored what he once described as, "The one effort all men make at some point in their lives...trying to go home again." This is Neil Young's version of that ancient theme.
jaxbus3000 wow
Wow
Hope I can remember this description. It’s awesome
It gives joy to see a musician so in love with the music. He always seems so open, so enthusiastic about making music with a score of very top artists. including Bob Dylan.

Kurt. It's Neil Diamond who just announced he has Parkinsons, not Neil YOUNG.
Wonderful old freak - music that touches the soul. So simple yet complex - spellbindingly beautiful with a touch of melancholy. Great artist.
That seems to be the key. Beautiful highly original music from the heart with harmony and feeling and soul and a bit of story telling with the emotional rollercoaster of happy to nostalgic to sad (melancholy) to hopeful. It is the perfect storm of acoustic folk, country, light classic rock awesomeness!
yes
Without a doubt, Neil Young’s most underrated song 🥲❤

Saw the guy playing guitar to the right of Young but what a surprise when the camera angle changed and it was Willie Nelson. Sugar Mountain is my favorite Neil Young song with southern man and my my hey hey close second and third.
@ 0:30-0:41 "I always remember those days as the happiest days of my life--until I grew up and got happy." Ain't that the truth, though.
Who can watch this and deny that Neil is an accomplished musician? He literally writes the songs, sings them, and plays guitar and harmonica all at the same time. That's a special talent, a special mind. Not many people are this talented.
one of the greatest
Who writes like Neil ,no one.
A genius.
I can't imagine anyone trying to deny it.

@Hello William how are you doing
for some reason, I always cry when I hear this song...
and when I got to see Mr. young earlier this year, and sang this, I closed my eyes, sang with it & tears just fell...
my poor hubby, he understood 🎸🎵🎻🎹🎶
Because the song mourns his early childhood, we've all had to experience some form of that, it strikes a chord deep within us. I can hardly keep from crying when I hear it too.

have a lovely day, sister 🌸
Oh man, you are not alone. This just rips me up with its simplicity but warm images. Just magic.
The epitome of Neil's view of the world in his early career days. I was so fortunate to hear this for the first time at his first solo gig after leaving Buffalo Springfield.... He gave a week at the Troubadour in the summer of 1969 and I was extremely blessed to get a seat. The Troubadour only seated about 200 folks and my table was about three feet from the stage..... and then he sang this..... Crystalline memories. Lovely day to all of you.
Oh yes....my husband always brings a hankie when we go see the old timers...I cry and then I mark each one with the date and concert!

I'm 55. I always think the best years of my life were when I was in high school. Didn't have to worry about paying bills. Just cruising around in a junk car with my friends. A part time job made me feel like I was made of money. Those were the days. Can't go back to Sugar MT.

@Hello Mike how are you doing
Sugar mountain is a special place where you always stay young, or at least you hope so. I was a dumb kid when I first heard this song but I still love Neil Young, so many memories his music has had in my life. Some good, some not but a great part of my life. Life without music would be death.
Right On!
Scott McMichael Am I misremembering or did he used to introduce this song ?by saying Sugar Mountain was actually a club in Toronto with an age limit of under 20. So a club for teens only
Yeah, I think it was in Winnipeg though, where he lived as a teen
Indeed
Scott: You said "Life without music would be death. " Me too, Scott!
I've never had any one be able to touch me deep in my soul like Neal doe's as far as I'm concern there is no better
N E I L is one of the true musical heavyweights and I doubt if it bothers him one bit if a fan makes a typo.
On the other hand N E I L probably has no time for mean-spirited blog replies.......sort of like yours Steven.
Could he be joking? Setup, punchline, rimshot! At least he didn't correct his spelling by Y E L L I N G, twice. (just jokes folks)
Robert Sexton Neil Young is a great artist he will be sadly missed from the stage so if you ever had the pleasure of seeing him live Saver it seen him two times up in Madison WI and summerfest 3 years ago took my son he loves the 60's and early 70 ' s music will we ever have artist of this caliber again and just not fade away Bob Dylan ranks right up at the top of there craft of being great artist and some of the best story tellers through music thanks by

Robert Sexton I agree 100 per cent. Heart of Gold was one of my first 45s. Been a fan since. Close to 50 years.
When I first started playing guitar back in the late-70's, We had a bunch of friends and we hung out at the non-finished Garfield Bridge in Elberon, NJ and I'd play alot, if not most, of Neil Young's songs on Acoustic. Great times................
2024 Still listening.
Wanna go back to those days where pple appreciated the real music, so soothing and calm. evokes a feeling of contentedness
The house that Neil speaks of still stands here in Omemee. He spent a few years of his younger life here. His Dad had a farm a couple of miles south of where we live.
Ah, the times of innocence, the times of learning to be. Neil perfectly personified these tender times we all experience when he wrote this song, when he was pretty much a child himself. He has a gift. Many more masterpieces were to come later. Thank you, Neil.
This is my favorite NY song -- vastly underrated by even him -- what's the matter with you, Neil...this is GORGEOUS !!!
Old man here, was thinking what do you mean New York song, took a second or two to come to my senses.
another proud canadian, we may be few, but were together.
i was lucky enough to see Neil Young at his first concert Royal Festival Hall circa 1971.
john falconer I saw him in Phoenix 16 years ago - best concert ever and I will never forget it.
Harvest was the first album I bought before I ever got a decent stereo. It's one of the few albums that I owned 2 copies of. To this day, some of Neil Young's songs will bring tears to my eyes.
such a great song he penned at 19 years old...classic lyrics...brilliant voice...
"When I was 5 or 6 years old we had a farm...and I always remember those days as the happiest days of my life. Until I grew up and got happy." This has to be one of the best lines I have ever heard anywhere.
This used to be the highlight of Neil Young concerts as this is a great song that he sang for a long time before he ever put it on record. It remains one of my favorites among the many.
I would love to live on Sugarr Mountain . I love your beautiful voice. . Perfect Mr Neil . We love you ❤❤❤
Anyone who has given this a thumbs down, need to stop listening to this.
Close your eyes, open your mind, and learn to feel it with your heart and soul.
Then you might understand just how talented this man is.
When he's gone it will be a sad sad day.
But the legend of Neil young ,will live on for decades, compared to the junk people call music nowadays.
Indeed so we took out 26 year old daughter 28 yo son to see what real great music sounds like and the genius behind all those magical decades
Exactly.
Sugar Mountain...so long ago...so cherished. So many concerts we shared.....so many songs. Bless you brother
I’m so glad I got to see him yesterday for the first time such a rare experience I’m 16 and love his tunes!😎
Asmr Knight so jealous. I have been a fan for decades and have never seen him live. Had tickets to see him in the 80s but he collapsed on stage the night before. Then bought tickets for his next show, but he cancelled. Think he was wearing down in that tour. He will remain my favorite artist forever. Love him.
That's cool same as my daughters lol
I have always so wished that for an evening I could just sit with him around a campfire while he plays guitar and he would sing and I could sing along with him and it would be such a gift to just be there in that moment together enjoying it all
For all the great rockers Young has some of his most touching songs are like Sugar Mountain, Harvest Moon, Only Love Can Break Your Heart. Young, one of the greats.

I am kicking back to a great classic. I absolutely adore my man Neil Young. I’m Catherine Powell from the coast of SC
40 years ago, I sang this to my girl friend who was 19 at the time. Fast forward and I still sing it to my girl friend who is still my girl friend that I married 38 years ago. Yes, my wife has to put up with me and loves me for it.

This song captures my youth. My dad was the county extension director so very involved with the county fair. My favorite week of the year was the county fair. I would spend from dawn to midnight at the fair. Things changed as I aged but it still was special. The line about the glares as you smoked your first cigarette. Yeah that happened at the fair.
A down to earth musician that plays it like it is. Thanks niel

Another one of my favorite Neil Young songs. Love it. Goes through my head for weeks. Oh to live on Sugar Mountain, don't we all wish we could be there forever.
I used to listen to this song all the time when I was young from my brothers album Harvest. That's when everything was beautiful in my world my whole family was alive. Now they all are going and I walk this world alone. That was my sugar melting back when I was young I never had to worry about anyting money no problems all I had was fun with the family. I think of sugar melting as a happy place where nobody gets old and everyone stays Young and Beautiful and there is green grass and nice Meadows and a Babbling Brook with clean water. Just so beautiful and peaceful.
Just remember melted sugar is caramel!
Not only his music is great. He is a great person, charming, polite, humble and simple.
Because he is Canadian. Canadians are very nice humble people.
One time I was driving to a concert (Bridge School Benefit) in California and waiting in line in my car to pay my parking fee. I look over to my right and there's this older dude driving an old 4 door black lincoln with suicide doors. The car was cool, but not mint by any means. It was like a daily driver. The driver of the car, in a funky looking hat, was driving himself and his family to his own concert. It was Neil Young just paying the parking fee like everyone else. He showed up about 1 hour early to the gig. Ok, maybe he was comped for the parking fee. :) A great concert and memory I will never forget. Shoreline Amphitheatre in Bay Area.
