Can we just take a minute to recognise that this is one of the leading musicians of our time sharing FOR FREE!!! his time and expertise? I’m not even a guitarist, I’m a reformed drummer, and these videos, more than most others, make me want play even the tiniest bit like Guthrie. Thank you GT and greetings from an unseasonably mild Scotland. It’s only minus 5 or 6 degrees Celsius.
I've watched hundreds of tutorial videos on RUclips, jazz and blues, and I just learned more from this one than all put together. Guthrie is a great teacher by just being himself.
These intros have changed my perception of what I thought was possible on guitar. It’s opened my eyes to ten more levels on top of what I previously thought existed.
Man, if this kinda stuff was available decades ago I wouldn't have sold my guitars. You sir are a true inspiration to so many people....love watching your talent.
Guthrie, you're such an amazing teacher. I really find the nutrients in your lessons to be invigorating, inspiring, and essential, and top it off beautifully demonstrated...You rule G.
Man, you were on top of it with Don Kelly in those days. Even more now, but I love those old videos with him. I honestly just got introduced to that stuff recently with you and he and those boys. Man I wish I had not been sleeping on that work back then.
When CDs started coming out, my friend Dave Hill had one of the largest collections of Blues records in the world. His Robert Johnson records (there were only a handful anywhere) were the cleanest. And they're what you've heard on CD. Years before CDs, he would make me mix tapes of some of the rarest Blues records ever. If I listed all the famous musicians from around the World that visited his house in Minneapolis to just hear those old records, you'd be impressed. I was.
Being a Huge Delta blues lover , there are some serious nuggets of info here. Amazing how good GT is at so many different styles. I will watch this 50 times to pick up little licks etc. Amazing teacher. Praying for new lessons on Truefire. I heard something. IDK. GTs right hand does so much. His two fingers/ Middle and next closest to pinky. He does so much with those 2 fingers. Very hard to do. My fave player. Merry Xmas people. Be safe.
Fantastic lesson! I see this is how Doc Watson started out Deep River Blues, which I've been trying to learn. Can't wait to see you with Billy Gibbons and the rest of his band, at the Blue Note Waikiki in January!!!
Alway love you playing, man. This video confirms those chords. Deep River Blues by Doc Watson has the same inversion or that’s what I came up with. Great lesson
Guthrie, just from watching you, I learned some new voicings for 7th chords and diminished chords. Thanks, dude! (I did already know how the diminished ones move every 4 frets.) Great stuff, easy lesson! 👍👍👍 PS: 12:45-13:00 And you say you don't know no theory shee-it. Ha! You know enough! Yes, you SHOULD be practicing that stuff! You play it as well as I do now, but you'd normally be MUCH better! 'Specially if ya practice.
Awesome Guthrie! Thanks mate. Oh, I heard about your John McEnroe story. Not sure if it was here on your channel or elsewhere but it's FUNNY AS HELL. You've got a real fan in John...haha. BTW...YES, 3 note chords, ie Triads, are my favorite. I play them almost exclusively and yes sir again, the travis/chet alternate picking stuff sounds great and I try to practice it for a little every day. It's still hard as hell but when you hit it right sounds fabulous.
love it, no cut aways as in - Agh my god a mistake lets do a retake - pure playing, it took me a long time to find the best, reckon I can stop here, I ain't gonna find anyone to come close to your playing, great stuff. Thanks.
2:51 nice. 3:23 nice 9:02 nice 9:33 nice 9:45 nice 11:15 nice 11:27 nice 14:16 practice this GT says 15:28 Robert Johnson thing - look at GT’s right hand! 16:23 walk down done right 17:00 1-6-2-5-1 17:40 the learning is dissecting the higher notes on the chords.
It reminds me of Eric Clapton and Doyle Bramhall II recording a Robert Johnson song and they disagree how it goes. Eric wins because the album’s titled Me and Mr. Johnson. 👍😂✌️
Appreciate what you do, Guthrie. I've never watched one of your videos(and I've watched many)and not taken something away from it. Anyone who would criticize you is just plain ignorant. Great reply.

A master bro 🙏🤓
These three note chord lessons may be your most insightful lesson. King of the blues , Mr Johnson.
Man, if this kinda stuff was available decades ago I wouldn't have sold my guitars. You sir are a true inspiration to so many people....love watching your talent.
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Thank you Guthrie for your time! Your lessons are much appreciated!!
Thank you. Sooo good for us to keep our musical roots under our fingers. Your really unlock how these root blues work. Just fantastic.
I appreciate it, happy to help!
Guthrie, you're such an amazing teacher. I really find the nutrients in your lessons to be invigorating, inspiring, and essential, and top it off beautifully demonstrated...You rule G.
You have more musical ideas in 30 seconds than most players have in 30 years. 🎸🎼

Awesome playing Mr G. Thank you for sharing these fundamental ideas with us musical plebs. You ROCK 💪
The only channel that can start with a diminished chord and take you from Robert Johnson to John McEnroe and back. ❤😂
Great stuff…Mr Johnson would be proud!
Thank you Mr Trapp for prompting me to get my acoustic out and trying some of this stuff. 👍
Thank you for the video, Guthrie! Great stuff. Your videos are like you’re talking to each of us.
Thank God Mr Guthrie you are on this life❤ who are the game-changer in guitar playing for me and everybody else it is all in the chords❤
Love the Irish reel to start. Man I wish I could get those high strings to ring out as cleanly as you! Great stuff as usual.
Glad you’re digging it!
you are so generous with your knowledge. So much gold
Thanks Guthrie, really helpful as usual, appreciate it !
Way cool Guthrie! Sweet!
Thank you for the lesson, it’s really helpful!
That acoustic rings like a bell
Nice. Thanks for all of those ideas. And what a nice sounding guitar too.
Glad you liked it!
@@guthrietrappmusic Thanks for the reply! Just trying to work on some of that stuff now : )
Wonderful video. I'm grabbing my acoustic right now. Thanks so much for sharing these ideas. Here's to hoping for a video everyday haha
Always great cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪 🎸🎸
More Delta Blues please, Mr GT! 🎸👌
You're playing is sooo f'ing tasteful Guthrie...love watching you play !

That little Martin kills - so does the guy playing it.

Great lesson
Thanks G! That was cool.

Nice job! And WOW! That is one sweet sounding ax!
OMG! ...the gold standard ...thank you sir!
Can’t wait to sit down with my guitar and this video. Another really good one, GT!
Great playin' man, diminished stuff is so cool
God damn I love that guitar.

Terrific playing!
I love the acoustic stuff and love RJ
Another masterclass GT. Thank you

Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful stuff! Love it
Thanks!
Awesome lesson! Thanks GT!
Thank you.
Yeah, the Boom Chuck...how do you do Mr. Thumbpick?!
Fine playing as ever, Mr Trapp. Can we now see your Uncle Larry impression! Or maybe the good Uncle can do one of you.
Tasty stuff!
Nice work. Which reminds me.... I still need a nylon string acoustic.
Killer as always, GT. Where’d that sick button up shirt come from? Yes, I know that has zero to do with guitarin’. Haha
Faherty brand. Good stuff
“Babe, wake up - GT posted again!”
SWEET GT!!
Nice
❤GT happy Friday!
Dang, that’s a nice guitar.
Ya I feel like Martin might sell a couple more of these because of Guthrie. Sounds so good
Cool man!
The first two cords are also found in Deep river Blues
The Bluegrass song licks you mentioned in the intro sounds like Monroe’s Hornpipe by Tony Rice @guthrietrapp
Deep River Blues- Doc Watson
Ah yes, the oft overlooked Diminished chord! Now do Augmented! LMAO over the Garfunkel story over on Otis’ channel!😂😂
Those git boxes they make up there in Nazareth sure have a Purdy ring to them!👍
The double dot inlay on the 7th fret was throwing me off there for half the video lol
Hi Guthrie, love your content! One question, the intros you make for this videos are improvised, or you write them before hand?
love it 🔥🚬😬 stay cool bro
I call that the Magic Sam chord. IYKYK
Also first two chords of deep river blues.
Guthrie, you GOTTA do an Uncle Larry impersonation, lol 😝
Doc Watson deep river blues , has that same intro
Indeed.
Does anyone know the model of the guitar Guthrie playing. It's wonderful (as is his playing)
I have that same guitar but I don't sound anything like Guthrie Trapp. 😞
Thanks for the great lesson!
Playing the wrong way is the style I most represent.
That Martin is so sweet. a 00-18 of some kind?
Modern deluxe 012-28 I was thinking. Could be wrong...
Damn that is tasty sir!
I like that shirt
why are those pauses in the "unsure" where im going measures? every time you do that.
Off topic. What brand sweat pants do you wear? I can’t find any I like.
Vuori are the only way to go! These are called the Ponto Performance Pant and I wear them everyday until someone tells me I can’t. Ha
@@guthrietrappmusicThanks!!
God that guitar sounds good 👍. Can you bum a note a once in a while too, damn
What model guitar is this?
Dude, when you play that intro are you playing a chord progression or playing licks within a certain key?
It reminds me of Eric Clapton and Doyle Bramhall II recording a Robert Johnson song and they disagree how it goes. Eric wins because the album’s titled Me and Mr. Johnson. 👍😂✌️
Open tuning
I feel like doing a Irish jig.
He sounds more like doc Watson. Which is good.
Sounds like same chords as the beginning of Doc Watsons deep river blues
Man, what a great lesson! You really oughta be charging for this gold but thank you for not
Careful a jealous husband or boyfriend could pit something in your 🍻 drink😮
Sorry Guthrie, love your playing, but Robert Johnson is not your wheelhouse. But you are the first to ever attempt hybrid picking for better or worse.
That’s why I like Guthrie, not afraid to try new shit in public
Damn dude, where's your channel?
I’m perfectly aware of what my wheelhouse is. Now you stay in yours. Please move onto another free channel that you can criticize.
Appreciate what you do, Guthrie. I've never watched one of your videos(and I've watched many)and not taken something away from it. Anyone who would criticize you is just plain ignorant. Great reply.
Hell Yeah!
