- I love working with this chord progression. It’s so great for so many examples and ideas. Mapping triads, harmonies, arpeggios, rhythm, groove …the list goes on and on.

Guthrie Trapp Видеоклипы
Cracks me up when people feel they need to be critical of a guy that’s an amazing player as he gives away knowledge for FREE on his promotional channel!
That guy who commented is a 🤡you have mentioned the caged system many many times when it is needed. And I have learnt so much from these free videos you share.
Thanks so much for all of this AMAZING support and feedback! That’s what will keep this channel thriving! It means a lot to me 👍😎🎶
Ever play Jimmy Bryant's Boogie Man? Bit of a Jerry Reed vibe. Killer main riff. I have that and "The Night Rider" on constant loops at the moment. Love that old western swing.
Thanks so much for your contribution to music and advice if I ever get over to see you perform in Nashville I'll buy you a beer
One of my top mottos is 'Ignore ALL criticism'. I'm still going back to 'Caravan' live at the Underdog, so wonderful.
I met you though papa stach but you are your own thing from him I get that boogie shred and from you I get all those country things which are Very important thank you so much rrrrrB
Guthrie, as a 70 year old player of 50+ years, I get so much out of your channel. My knowledge of theory is limited, but I'm learning more from your teaching. Like you say, this is why we love music, it's the feeling of a great melody under the fingers. Everyone's a critic these days, just keep on keeping on and don't let them get to ya, pal. Lot's of us appreciate what you put up here.
davidmaki6960 - Well said, man
What he said (and then some!)
Hear, hear!
He's an absolute gem!
Guthrie please blow off any criticism. This is pure gold man! Guitarists need to play and listen to their ears and use their brains and don't be afraid to experiment and fail. You're by far the best guitar teacher on RUclips. The stuff I've learned from you on every lesson is absolutely amazing and I'm pretty advanced. And you're doing it for free so thank you!! Have a great week.
Best teacher -I totally agree with that and I'm on my 69th Rodeo. I saw the deleted comment and it made me think the poor dewd had crashed hisself through the 'Welcome To Florida' sign. Looking forward to the LIVE AT THE UNDERDOG album...
Seriously I've learnt more from this guy in the last two years than any other teacher.
And he's NEVER overcomplicating stuff. Just hammering home the same information time after time.
For those that are having a difficult time grasping what GT's doing, I can tell you this is a MASTER'S CLASS amount of information that takes some time to grasp - this isn't for beginners. However, having said that, he's pointing to ALL of the necessary nutrients to get you fed way beyond the simple snacks that so many other teachers are offering. If you stick to what he's explaining here and watch it a hundred times if you have to, it will all fall together in time. There's no rush. This stuff is for keeps - if you have the patience to work it out. Truly. My playing has blossomed exponentially more in the last 2 years of listening to Guthrie than it has in the previous 30 years combined. That is no lie. And I can never thank GT enough for his exceedingly generous gift of sharing this with all of us. ♥🤠👍
Hey, man. Thank you so much for helping to explain this. If I do it, I just sound like an asshole. Ha ha. No really. It means a lot to me, man. I’m so glad it worked for you and that you’re willing to help spread the gospel to others here. Take care! GT
I agree this is a masterclass from one the greatest guitar player today living
Guthrie's approach to these lesson/advertisements is very helpful to many guitarists out there. A certain level of proficiency is required to really get the most out of them, but I truly love the way he cuts through a lot of the BS. I am highly appreciative of his efforts.
Soulful talented guitarist shows his stuff to help us amateurs, and trolls attack. What a world.
I really like the content. Hope others do too.
“If it sounds good, it is good” no rules! Awesome job as always GT. Thanks again for being genuine. Looking forward to the new album release 👍
I taught public school for 30 years. I know what good teaching is. You are the best guitar teacher I have found, utube or personal, and I just watch your videos. There are always going to be the nitpickers and people that will find something wrong. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and the way that you do it. I Love It!!
Let me clarify, people will find something to complain about. To say anything is wrong was a bad use of words.
I don't usually comment on RUclips videos, but here goes. Every now and then, someone plays a chord progression that just grabs you and slaps you in the face and makes you want to pick up the guitar and play. Well that was one of them right there. Thanks for a great lesson.
You make everyone better at guitar
Every video is jammed packed with good stuff to practice. Guthrie is a great teacher. Perhaps the critics just need to be better students.
You're a good wholesome dude and I for one, appreciate you.
Keep on keeping on.
GT: "If it sounds good, it is good!". Greatest quote of the day.
“Simply…” beautiful
I think your quite a good teacher............. and that is that ........lets move on and play our guitars.
I appreciate the informal , straight to the point , and the ,skip the very beginner stuff , way you make these videos .thx
10:18! Nice.
Good day Mr Trapp, all that you do is way above my pay grade but I watch religiously to pick up even the smallest morsel of information that my abused brain might possibly retain. I dig what you do and appreciate what you present to us dreamers. Very grateful to have access to your content, thank you sir🙏
So much great content, ideas and advice in these videos. We're lucky to have you around. 🙏
I started using this progression after one of your vids a while back. Then I found myself slowing it down, playing lead and then singing with it. This stuff really gets it flowing and this one lesson has brought me joy and knowledge. Peace.
Guthrie, your teaching style is among the very best on the internet. When I finally begin teaching, I will model lessons in that 'less theory and more ears' approach. Once the student can move between 3 note chord shapes, which demonstrates they've put in some effort, then introduce basic theory. The ear comes first. Music came first, then it was analyzed and written on the page. Not the other way around.
I beg to differ with the guy who says that you are not a great teacher. You are an amazing guitar player, and an amazing teacher.
Best teacher I ever had in 50 years. Finally made sense of the caged system for me and you always talk about it and made people like me finally connect it unlike all the posers out there.
Keep up the good work
The guy criticizing you is out of his mind. Don’t listen to that crap. Your lessons changed my life and artistworks was a blast with ya! ❤
Don’t even read those stupid backhanded compliments! You are an awesome player and teacher! As for the scammers, they’re doing it to everybody! Anyone who gets fooled by those crooks should maybe do a little research. That’s not you’re fault.
Anyway, you rock and keep doing what you do!
These scammers are using GT's picture and taking measures to sound like him. They aren't offering anything extravagant like " a free trip to Tahiti", mostly just wanting to contact him. I get these on You Tube often and only from his You Tube channel, even though I'm subscribed to hundreds. How about you share how to " do a little research". I haven't seen anything that would help sort out the real from the fake.
Ever since I saw you play this progression with Brett Pappa, I've been hooked on practicing over it. Thanks GT!
Been studying guitar for five years, and what Guthrie is saying, is finally making sense to me! Watching a RUclips channel that shows how to play licks, but not understanding the musical application, is useless. Heed Guthrie's words.
You are such a monster player, and yet you’re able to keep things simple enough for us to get it.
Thanks for all the wisdom Guthrie! You’ve def changed my playing for the better over all these years!
THIS STIUFF IS WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD!!! THANKS FOR POSTING GT!!!
99% of what you are showing I don´t get, but it such a joy to watch you playing. It´s inspiring me to play more, learn more and listen more to music. So, thank you for what you are giving us here.
Guthrie Trapp you are a legend in my book. I’ve probably seen every video you have put out more than once. I’ve learned so much from you and your RUclips videos and artist works classes. A lot of your playing style has permanently imprinted itself in mine, and I couldn’t be happier about that. My journey has a long road ahead and I hope you keep making videos to help guide the way
Grateful for you GT....u are the best brother, i have spread the word to anybody and everybody I know that plays guitar to check out your channel and subscribe....
Gold nugget after gold nugget, Guthrie is a treasure and it’s awesome he takes his time share it with us. Greatful for the guitar wisdom dropped here. This has been one of my favorite lessons so far - most folks won’t talk you through how they are really thinking about it and approaching their playing. Thank you for your candidness and salt of the earth approach to these videos. No frills just bad ass guitar
You can play like Guthrie! Just play for 12 hours a day for 40 years!!! So good and so humble. Super helpful videos. A pro just showing you secrets. How cool is that. The comments from someone about not teaching CAGED. Give me a break man. Guthrie is up here for free sharing stuff. Not every video has to be spoonfeeding basic stuff. It’s okay to be curious and figure some stuff out on your own. You can take inspiration from this video and go work stuff out on your own. Thanks Guthrie.
doesnt take 40 years to learn this particular thing but yes hes very good
@@raoulduke8720 that was a joke
So much usable stuff to work with. Finding those gems, Thank you.
“Using the restraint to try and play something that fits”.
G.T.
One of the best things ever said by a guitar teacher.
Shit dude your channel is top notch. A whole bunch of us really dig everything you do on here. And that was a cool little jazzy thing you did in there. Glad things are rolling for you
Bravo. It is INCREDIBLY educational when you break out of a I-IV-V,
ii-V-I, etc and solo over a “more outside” progression. GRACIAS!!!
Brother, l'm just gonna say this for now, you helped me more in ten minutes than all the others that I've watched in the past few years since retiring. Been searching for that light bulb moment all over the place and you my friend made it happen just days ago and I thank you so much! The way you explain then demonstrate is what did it for me. Watching your videos over and over to get me on my way to being a better player hopefully. I'm 68, grew up with The Beatles, Glen Campbell just copying what I heard but never learning the fret board. Been frustrated and losing interest off and on past few years til I came across your channel. Thanks again and keep it up.
I love that I-III opening change. Georgia on my mind, nobody knows you when you’re down and out, all of me, Deal. Great tunes. I love them all.
One of my favorite chord movements! Secondary dominants for the win!
Great video , your lessons are a gift to us players that are stuck . You always drill down to basics and i always pick up something that's very useful in my quest . thanks you , Maestro
Looking forward to your show tonight
I had 4 guitar teachers in my life and not one of them ever taught me or talked about the CAGED system. I found out about the CAGED system on my own many years after i had those guitar teachers!
Seriously I've learnt more from this guy in the last two years than any other teacher.
And he's NEVER overcomplicating stuff. Just hammering home the same information time after time.
No charge for mistakes , good thing cause we'd all be broke , just jokin' .great stuff thanks for giving your time and knowledge freely. I really get alot out of lessons like this
I appreciate Guthrie's time and teachings. I always learn something from the videos and if I didnt play guitar I would simply sit back and enjoy what he's playing. Of course he has to make a living. If you think he's getting wealthy on this channel, then you're mistaken.
Great stuff! Your ability to get right to heart of the problems that face new and intermediate guitar players makes you a great teacher and there's not many around. Thanks!
Guthrie, you always have such great videos, thanks so much!! I lhad a good experience with your Artistworks class too.
Thanks GT! Will be doing courses soon.
I come here because you are real about yourself, and your playing is as great as your tips. Thanks
First 3 chords are the same as Smooth Sailing that Redd and Ibrecirded on my Telethon album. Great progression to get a little "outside" and sound like you have some jazz chops.
I'm digging all these videos bro! Directing a bunch of my friends to them. Cheers!
Good on you for sharing! I think the point of using musical knowledge is to develop one's own voice, not to sound exactly like Guthrie Trapp or anyone else. Thanks so much, I've learned a lot from this channel.
I think the commenter who talked about your teaching is looking for the a-z here on this channel. I have purchased your courses in the past and you go into much further detail in your paid lessons.
In the lessons here it seems like you're showing ideas for us to hear and try to learn. I'll admit that I wish you broke things down a bit more (like call out the chord your playing over and some of notes that you are choosing). I understand that you need to make a living through your lessons. I hope to be able to afford them again in the future.
Thanks for this content sir!
I know its hard not to let some negative comments and opinions get to you, your only human. The majority of the comments I see are positive, and you do a great job imo. And you hit the nail on the head regarding theory vs. playing something that sounds good. I am pretty sure the majority of the music I grew up to love, most all of those people knew NO theory and or didn't know how to read music. They just played what sounded good to them. McCartney and Hendrix come to mind. :-) Keep up the great work Guthrie!!
Guthrie, you play with your soul and you are an excellent guitarist, music is played and theory is for boring people. Just keep opening new Horizons for us. ❤
Your free advice is priceless. And I thankyou.
I have been mesmerized by this chord progression since you first showed it a couple of months ago. Always finding new stuff in it. Been spending a lot of time in E. Love it! Also, thanks for clearing up the Telegram bullshit. WTF?! Anyway, thanks so much for what you do. Lastly, people, get Truefire. It is more than worth it.
Been jamming this progression for years following you. It’s almost Ian Moore’s “Satisfied”
Thanks GT! you are my favorite teacher and continue to hammer home core learnings based on chord tones, shapes, and the Nashville numbering... lots of your little nuggets of wisdom stick with me, like ending the lead phrase note within (or on) the chord you are moving through, and there is no separation between chords/shapes and leads :) Love You Man!
Thank you! One of the best double stop demos I have ever seen. Your channel is GOLD!
I appreciate the style of teaching that you’re talking about that doesn’t involve the over complication. We’re guitar players. We see things through the guitar. You’re one of the few guys that really pushes that envelope. Lots of love from fairhope AL Guthrie
Dino's Dive Bar!
Great stuff Guthrie. Much respect...
This is my favorite teacher on you tube, and I wish I had time and funds for one on one lessons....this is the real deal guitar playing lessons right here
always a great lesson you are my kind of teacher
Guthrie you're an awesome player and communicator, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Well, they can, but you can ignore them, as I'm sure you do.
This is the best lesson!!!
I’ve been waiting 3 months for you to bust out the 335 again GT lol 😅, always so smooth and suave sounding👌. Thx Mr. GT.
This fits right in with what I'm doing. Life time lesson.
GT, you inspire me to pick up the guitar every single day. No body else does that. Thanks.
I love these videos. I'm probably hard-headed and need a lot of help to break through this wall I've built with my old habits. It's hard because I'm in my 30's now and I wish I would have learned this stuff when I was a teenager. But the great thing is that I HAVE undone some of my bad habits since playing along with your videos. Progress is progress!
If it sounds good it is good pretty much sums up why I think your a brilliant teacher.
Keep going matey. Your doing a great job.
Love it👍
Looks like I got homework again tonight. Good stuff Guthrie for the masterclass.
Thankyou for sharing your wealth of knowledge Guthrie. Cant wait to go forward and learn with you .all the best to you from Australia.
Guthrie, You are a legend and a gentleman. Thanks for the knowledge and the break down on a great soul progression I can sink my teeth into. The fills are starting to fall in place.
Try not to worry about the noise coming from the peanut gallery. Most of us appreciate the level you are delivering to. You are offering a hand up the next level from advanced beginner.
Anyone needing to get foundational information have pick of the litter on YT.
Keep doing what you do best : Tasty chords, sweet leads and grade A fills.
Love those soulful notes you find!
You're awesome GT!
Thank you GT
Love the lessons!
u gotta B the BEST teacher i've EVER spent time with in ANY situation... PRACTICAL knowledge, fer FREE, frm a WORKIN GIGGIN, STUDIO LEVEL PRO MUSICIAN... awesome stuff put forward, SO well..
did i mention it's FREEEEEE!!!!?
Thnx again GT!!! woohooo!!! ;0) M
Thanks Guthrie. I’ve been an intermediate player for a while and this lesson was perfect for what I needed to work on. Theirs a lot of beginner lessons out there offering magic pills and I’m thankful for your REAL dive into music. Really appreciated.
I'm a 98 year old guitar player❤ who the hell took my hearing!¿ I'm cereal
Fantastic
Amen on the not overthinking it man. You are an excellent teacher because you don't cram theory in the lessons.
Kudos on these bro.
I get it. That "promo" video I did in 2005 to sell my instruction dvds got a ton of views like 700k but a lot of comments about how I suck as a teacher. I'm adhd etc... 😆
Dude, you are killin it. Keep em comin!
I like the way you show how to build interesting riffs off of simple chord structures . I think you are a GREAT teacher, who cuts through all the B.S. and gives us the meat and taters! Thank you so much!!!
Love your insights learning so much from you! I appreciate you sharing your years of experience. I really enjoy your playing very much! God bless!
what a fantastic lesson!!!!!
Sweet man ..this vid is right on time.. been into that 6ths cropper run and shoving those 2nd dominants lately
Nobody knows you when you’re down and out is another type progression same ideas....also Deal J Garcia
It sounds like “No compute” by funkadelic! Love the channel Guthrie, Ive learned a lot from your artist works and this you tube channel. Thanks for everything you do on here much appreciated.
Thank you Guthrie, absolute gold once again ❤
GT, I think you are a great teacher and absolutely love the way you play 👍 Amazing. Keep rockin, G !!!!
Wait folks be griping over here? Guthrie givin free love here! Jeez. Hit the jar yo!
Right on, man!👍🏼
Guthrie, you are a very fine teacher. I personally love the density and pace of your lessons. I am still digesting the last lesson because I want to fully incorporate/ingrain those concepts and quite honestly…
a majority of the licks and techniques. 😎
…moveable country licks lesson.
Great progression! Thanks for sharing!! 🎸
WOW! Beautiful man.
Amen brother, thank you GT
I'm sorry, but that fella who commented is missing some things. There are folks who need to be hand held through the process. I don't judge that. However, to complain of that you aren't doing enough hand holding in a free video is a shame. Second, CAGED is just a way to see. It ain't a religion, but it's a damned fine way of breaking up the neck into recognizable pieces. Third, EVERYTHING GT drops always feels like its related to CAGED. You aren't paying attention. Do the I-IV-IV in every position with all the tricks he shows. Do this one everywhere, every position with every trick. GT is a freaking gift and giving his stuff away for free. Put some tips in his tip bucket. This guy is a serious pro. Show love.
GT - I love your videos and was happy to see you with Oz in NYC. If I get down the Nashville, I'll be reaching out for a lesson.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! This kind of attention to detail makes my day! It does mean a lot to me that most of you guys get this! Have a great week 👍😎🎶
