Hey guys, thanks so much for all these inspiring comments. It means the world to me. No comment goes unread, I just hate that I can’t respond in depth to everyone personally. Thanks again and keep up the good work!! GT
The people that dont get it dont understand what a gem you are that we get to learn from you. Ive played for 32 years, toured all over, played shred metal and would consider myself a good guitar player and one of your just jamming, improv intros changed my life. Basic foundational triad runs that you made awesome that I had never built on and it blew my mind. You are a top tier musician and one of my all time favorite guitar players ever. Thank you.
I agree with you, if you want the “put your first finger on the first string first fret” stuff, buy a course. The stuff you provide here is conceptual and if you hear a lick you like, use your ear to figure it out. You can even slow it down on RUclips. I wish this kind of technology was available when I was learning, but maybe wearing out some of my favorite LP’s was better in the long run.
I know it’s been a year, but the value you and the guys like Uncle Larry and Brett Papa bring is so huge without any investment other than watching what you out in RUclips.
I apologize in advance for the length of this comment. Thank you for what you do. It is so appreciated. You are an inspiration. Thank you for pushing us a bit. Most of us need it. You do it because you are passionate about wanting us to learn this amazing instrument. You have generously provided a masterclass here, for free. I am about to dive into your new Truefire course, but now will spend time digesting this first. You have touched on these concepts (notes from the previous chord that lead into the root or third of the next chord) several times before but now go into detail. You are kind of giving away part of the store here, but you want to be helpful. Please don’t change anything about your approach. It is perfect for intermediate players who already know the notes on the fretboard, chord and scale structure, and intervals. It is frustrating for an intermediate player when a teacher has to spend time saying which fret on which string to put which finger because the teacher, understandably, wants to speak to beginners as well as intermediate players. People: buy the courses. Guitar teachers have to make a living. What they do on RUclips is a gift. Appreciate it. Beginner players: please don’t take offense to my comments here. The guitar is so rewarding, and I wouldn’t want to say anything to steer you away from it. Just take what you find here as inspiration. There are many, many teachers on RUclips who will teach you the basics. Having said that, as Guthrie has said, if you just slow down his videos and take them note for note you will learn so much. it is time well spent. But it is on you to learn the basics. You won’t regret it. And then you will be in position to absorb the teachings of the greats, like Guthrie Trapp.
Excellent comment. Guthrie, Uncle Larry, several others give us so much information. It really is such a wonderful gift. Many thanks to you Mr. Trapp. You're a beast.
Guthrie, I took your artist works course for 6 months a few years ago, which I extended for three more months. I can’t say how much this time helped my playing. I am 62:and played in bars all my life. Before these lessons, I knew how to play songs but I can’t say I truly knew how to play. I now play quite a lot with my eyes shut because I always know where I am on the fretboard. That is what your lessons did for me and I can’t thank you enough! One of these days, I’ll get down to Nashville to see you and your band live! Sincerely, Ian
It's truly ridiculous to complain about your presentation. To it's like being invited into your home like a friend saying hey bro check this out. That works just fine for me.
I've only had a couple opportunities to meet a great player and talk to them about guitar. Steve Morse was an incredibly gracious guy. He sat down at our table during a break and just talked guitars and life as a pro player. I just soaked in every bit of insight and knowledge I could get out of it. That's the way I look at your videos my friend. Whatever you are able to share here about the things that you have learned, I'm here for it, and just grateful you are taking the time to do it. Thanks Guthrie. Appreciate you.
Next time someone says anything negative about your vids ask him what his job is then ask him to come paint your house for free or come cut your lawn or fix your truck for free. Clowns they must be if they don't appreciate free lessons from one of Nashville's finest pickers. Your a legend bro keep it up, thanks from sunny Liverpool.
Man, I don't come here to how to play stuff, mainly because I can't play like you😂😂 I come here to watch and listen, but it does inspire me to keep playing, because I always feel good about music after I watch one of new videos, and end up grabbing a guitar afterwards.
25 years ago I was told to play the changes. I learned w/ TAB. Now I'm learning Jazz. This is a gift. Thank you. I wish I had heard it then as well as you explain it. PLAY THE CHANGES !!!!!!!!!!🥾🥾🥾kicking myself🥾🥾
The part about the ear is so important. I’ve tried to teach some kids to play (I’m your age Guthrie), and it’s like they look at it like a video game. “Well, I put my fingers in the right place at the right time. What else do you want!?” That’s what they seem to think. It’s like a physical exercise. It’s not!!! It’s music. Use your ear kiddos. I love these videos! I’ve learned so much, and I watch them for inspiration for new chord progressions to jam.
Dude shreds! Its funny how he really is limited with theory. This is him saying this, not me. And then plays the most beautiful piece of music. Blows my mind. I watch his vids over and over hopin something sticks! I saw him live couple weeks ago. Hes a bad man.
Guthrie, most of us live in the real world. I along with many others realize the we all have to earn a living. What you provide to us is the desire to learn more about guitar and how it works harmonically. I appreciate all you provide us about the basics of chord structure and melody. This is a close to a free lunch as possible. Heartfelt thanks for all you provide.
Hi Guthrie. I have been playing guitar for more than 40 years. Have played in several good bands, write music and can make it work. +2 years ago I realized that I really knew very little about music, how things are connected etc. So I started a journey. Have watched endles youtube videos, bought many of the “be great in 1 hour’ish” type of courses. Honestly all crap, and I have been very frustrated. Just could not see the big picture and connect the dots. Heard many people talk about “when it suddenly clicked” it just did not happen to me. BUT your video, right here, it suddently happend. Almost like all the puzzle (or at least some of it) suddendly showed a clear picture. Now I’m on the right track and Im impressed how quickly I progress having found the right track. I know that many out there feel like me, and my clear experience is, that it makes no sense to follow all the “fastmoving wonder-kids” that can bring you to pro level if you fpllow their cource. Follow the real musicians. Thanks Guthrie, you make a difference. Well… actually to make the world a better place and more peacefull. With music and an instrument in our hands there is no space for weapons :-)
Your physicality and right-handedness makes you the perfect Telecaster player. You have total control over that thing. The way your right hand can mute, plus pick and fingerpick. But the real prize is your melodic construction and I love the way you set things up, and then sometimes let them melt away with passing tones and jazzy runs. ...melting away a country twang structure. Like country jazz. Nashville players are the best players, and they are all right handed.
Become the cord become the note the melody the harmony. Your ears right there's a deepness to that and understanding. So there's a fine line do you want to know more stuff or do you want to have complete control and mastery and on-call what you already know.. do you want complexity or do you want to have simplicity.
The biggest leap i ever made as a guitarist was the day I dropped my bs ego immature self and got a humble teachable one . That way when people like Mr. Trapp are trying to impart some next level goods on you...for free...you can receive it .
I dig this channel, love that there's now some real guys showin their stuff. I may be wrong but Guthrie looks like the type who'd destroy a beer too. Gotta love that.
Hanging with the ladies at the pool! You go slay them Guthrie! get some sun on those chops. But no showing off on the high board. You ain't 15 no more son
Don’t ever let the comment section get to ya brother! Folks like you and Uncle Larry have made me and a lot of other guys way better players… even after 30+ years. I’ll continue to support you guys in any way I can… with my favorite being seeing some live music.
The first 5 minutes of this video were just excellent. Some beautiful playing and then an honest, heartfelt, balanced and informative response to comments...delivered with good nature and with a smile on your face. Just brilliant and even more reason for anyone watching your videos to become connected and engaged. All that might sound complicated so for the sake of simplicity, it's enough to say just keep being yourself and keep doing what you do! 👍
Thank you this is the one that showed me the most. Almost slow enough to follow I got a watch it 50 times to get it lol. But yes these are it this is what I've been waiting for my whole life lol
Dude I get it. Started your TrueFire yesterday 👍And I’m at the point where I’m following everything even though I don’t have it. I’m getting it. Wish some would have been more blunt about what I needed a long time ago. Your talk yesterday is opening it up for me. Thanks appreciate what you do!!
Your channel is great! When I started playing I learned from watching other players - no instruction from the players - just watched their hands as they played their gig. If they were really generous they would give 5 minutes over a beer after the gig. Watching you is so helpful!
I think a lot of the criticism comes from frustration. The frustration comes from not being willing to drop a couple of buck to take a lesson, and then putting in the work step by step. It's a process, 'and the road goes on forever.'
Sign me up as one of the viewers that get it - THANK YOU for starting off these valuable videos with a free wheeling musical exploration plus the fun intro talk. Keep it up G!
I would not let you fix my teeth or do the heart transplant either. But man you do fix my soul with the way you touch the guitar. That is pretty advanced stuff if you ask me!
Hahaha, some people love to complain about free stuff. I spent a few months on your artistworks course and it was well worth it! Highly recommend Guthrie’s paid content for anyone else out there! 😊
Bought the bundle today from TrueFire. Hard to beat for $50 to get both courses, GT. Thank you for all you do, and by the way, I'm one of those that gets it!
Not just a stellar player - also a top quality human! Keep doing what you do - don’t let the sad people get you down. Your fans will always have your back amigo.
Appreciate you Guthrie - one of the best! Your RUclips videos are very helpful and much appreciated! Regarding any complaints...my advice - just be a duck (water off your back). Don't let anyone get you down. You are on point and the vast majority of us truly appreciate your time and effort! Best to you!
Man G I have met many cats Who have shown me a lick here or a riff there that has influenced my approach to these 6 strings over the years bro. Love the way you play, thanks for all the insight. This is why we really love to play this Thang!
The way I see it “ personally “ the beginning playing in every video is the intro and then the intro to the lesson follows, again that’s how I interpret it BUT I understand it and I love the content. Keep up the great work buddy 💪🏻
Hey Guthrie - long time fan and just want to tell you how grateful I am for sharing your life and experiences with us here. I can't wait for the Buk/Trapp album. Thanks for putting up with the knuckleheads and hanging with us anyway.
Keep tweaking out on those awesome intros! People get too demanding when they are watching a free video! If they want detailed lessons we know that’s available through your artist works or other courses!
I really think Guthrie is for solid Intermediate to professional level players as it is. He’s not one to baby anyone along ha… he expects people to do their homework and put in their own work.
Guthrie, just wanted you to say how much I appreciate you and Tom B for sharing your knowledge and inspiring those of us who are always seeking. Can’t wait for the album!
Guthrie, you do put 35 years of experience into these videos, I'm amazed at how much you share. And, thank you! The last vid was the whole business...just real fast! I've been in one of your courses, but these visits really really help. Thanks again!
I forgot what a great player Guthrie is. I haven't watched in a while, but there are always great nuggets of information in his videos. Like the idea of playing the triads across each set of 3 strings in every position possible. Just a great exercise to hammer the way the fretboard works into your memory.
I really appreciate all the amazing free content you put out there. I feel so fortunate to have access to you, your playing, and your teachings. Thank you!
Mr. Guthrie, Your videos are great They make me wanna work harder and you are blazing a trail. You just keep swinging!! Your terminology and cord knowledge is staggering. Again thank you but I promise you I’m gonna get it. I’m gonna buy one of those cool black shirts too! Ha! And the very last thin that I want to do is To Say. I’ve been hittin some hard traveling too! Just keep on !!!
Guthrie I love what you do man. I'm able to take away something from every video that you post. I dig your honesty about learning this instrument. Can't wait to hear your album!
I’ve watched a ton of you’re videos. It’s correct that they are not lessons at all. They are a light switch to many light bulb moments of learning the instrument! Keep it up!
Been slowly working through your AW course for a while. I learn something new and it sends me down other musical rabbit holes. Your RUclips videos are a great supplement and help bring me back to the AW lessons. Keep doing what you do!
I find these videos to be very inspiring and helpful. I've saved a bunch and plan to review them as often as necessary to really get the tips under my fingers. Thanks for what you do.
You do a great job Guthrie! I appreciate all your videos and teaching. You are an inspiration to all of us and keep me motivated to learn new things. The guitar community is growing thanks to you. Keep up the good work!
For real man, thanks for what you do here on RUclips, you have opened my eyes to quite a few things and I’ve been playing guitar for a long time. I believe you are more generous with your knowledge than most others.
Just keep doing these the way you are, these videos are a gift. Of course you're using the channel to direct people to your site and lessons...as you should be . I get so much out of your openings along with fantastic direction and advice on where I should be focusing my efforts as I return to learn an instrument I put down for almost 40 years. I'm really looking forward to taking your Artistworks and/or Truefire lessons down the road. Appreciate the heat.
Thank you for doing these videos they put me in a great mood listening to you play and talk. Heard you a long time ago in the caverns with 18 south and love the path you’re blazing.
I love your channel dude. Absolutely love it. Your new Trufire stuff is top-notch and I'm just starting the course. In The Jam is awesome! Keep on keepin' on man! I'm grateful and humbled by your gifts. Rock on!

I'm glad other serious guitarists (pro or am) are beginning to find these

Guthrie my guy.. don't let the comments section get to you.
I think negative comments stem from that person’s frustrations, I know I get like that because I just need to learn how to learn it.
I have so much to thank you for keep it up for us to learn 1/24 of your skill
Opening little feel of the police. ( if you had chorus on it )

What a great memory with SM. His "The Introduction" is still one of my favorite guitar oriented albums, along with Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow.

I’m actually wearing my east Nashville guitar club shirt while watching….. stop judging me, I know I’m a fanboy.
People who say you are not aexplaining everything should take your courses OR figure out by EAR the beautiful things you play
Dude shreds! Its funny how he really is limited with theory. This is him saying this, not me. And then plays the most beautiful

30 years in 20 minutes? Sounds like the name of another great song idea!
Cracking up you have to explain that Lol 😂.
The T Shirts are great, you guys made the right move using real Ts and not some Gildan garbage. Nice work, and the art is slick on both of those.
Somehow, just hearing you strum any chord my ears just feel something different than anyone else playing. Does anyone else feel this?
Finding Everything I need just watching & Practicing what you say. Progress Abound.
The T-shirts look great! All the books look great but that Malabo one looks super interesting!
The biggest leap i ever made as a guitarist was the day I dropped my bs ego immature self and got a humble teachable one . That way when people like Mr. Trapp are trying to impart some next level goods on you...for free...you can receive it .

Get it, GT! I pre-ordered your TrueFire course. To those that want more structured instruction … do the same!
Yes! Artist works course starts after the weekend for me! Anything to avoid a normal job 😅

Wow, thank you for the heartfelt feedback. Means a lot.
Ignore the idiots. Thank you for all your inspiration. Please don’t stop
Looking forward to hearing and seeing you play in the flesh this Monday at the Underdog! 🙂

So fresh. What an artist. What an inspiration. What a monster player. Keeps me trying.........
Some ppl will never get it… These videos are pure gold!!! Thank you Guthrie!
Bought the bundle today from TrueFire. Hard to beat for $50 to get both courses, GT. Thank you for all you do, and by the way, I'm one of those that gets it!
Thanks for all you share for FREE! Much appreciated, each and every trick, lick and insight. Cheers, Mate!!
Weather easy or hard all free lessons are appreciated. Thanks, and God bless you.
You are the coolest guy on the planet GT! Totally love you man!
Man G I have met many cats Who have shown me a lick here or a riff there that has influenced my approach to these 6 strings over the years bro. Love the way you play, thanks for all the insight. This is why we really love to play this Thang!
WHEEEEWWWW!! 1:46 .... IM TAKING THAT hahah. Beautiful playing as always man
Great honest expose about what a professional musician has to do to make a living!
The way I see it “ personally “ the beginning playing in every video is the intro and then the intro to the lesson follows, again that’s how I interpret it BUT I understand it and I love the content. Keep up the great work buddy 💪🏻
Spot on Guthrie, these are advanced techniques and insights into how to play guitar music 🎶 and all for FREE thank you for your time GT.
Keeping it real. Thanks for this, Guthrie.
Hey Guthrie - long time fan and just want to tell you how grateful I am for sharing your life and experiences with us here. I can't wait for the Buk/Trapp album. Thanks for putting up with the knuckleheads and hanging with us anyway.
Of course.....people have to realize that life is costly.
Thank you for your sharing - talent and acknowledge- .
It’s very cool that a guitar player of your caliber has a guitar hero. And by the way … Billie knows a great player when he hears one .
Guthrie, just wanted you to say how much I appreciate you and Tom B for sharing your knowledge and inspiring those of us who are always seeking.
Can’t wait for the album!
Guthrie, try using the "Delete" button for the unwanted comments......it actually feels good
Does someone think they can play you’re intro after watching a 5 minute video😂😂😂. You’re very polite.
Guthrie, you do put 35 years of experience into these videos, I'm amazed at how much you share. And, thank you! The last vid was the whole business...just real fast! I've been in one of your courses, but these visits really really help. Thanks again!

Brother…. Thanks for speaking out… however as always thank you for sharing I always learn and get inspired by your videos.
I really appreciate all the amazing free content you put out there. I feel so fortunate to have access to you, your playing, and your teachings. Thank you!
Keep pushing!
Mr. Guthrie,
Your videos are great
They make me wanna work harder and you are blazing a trail.
Don’t change how you do things… These videos are perfect
We understand!!! Thanks for all you do!
Guthrie I love what you do man. I'm able to take away something from every video that you post. I dig your honesty about learning this instrument. Can't wait to hear your album!
Love the playing and knowledge you share! Just started the TrueFire videos. Great stuff! Thanks for all the help here on RUclips and on TrueFire! 🤘😎
Into 4 years with daily practice learned a lot from GT. Thanks ur videos old and new i always come back and take something with me.
your intros are some of the best guitar music out there! Just keep doing your stuff your way.
Love your advice! So glad I found you channel! Triads and their inversions are the foundation!!
That intro piece was amazing! Thank you
Man, sharing your talent and knowledge is crazy generous. Thank you.
I think your videos are fantastic, GT. And often your opening playing does showcase the message in the video. Keep on keeping on!
Thx Guthrie for taking the time to make these videos. It is appreciated.

Way cool Guthrie! Love what you're doing and your passion for our craft!
Nice one man - keep 'em coming! Your openings are perfect btw, always picking up things from them.
thanks for these videos. i had a heavy a-ha moment watching this and appreciate the time you put into these.
Rock on!
I love what you're doing. Your videos are informative and inspiring. So, don't change a thing!
You’re the best. Love your courses. Don’t let them get to you
Love love love your videos!!! You make us think instead of showing licks to learn. That’s the way to bring out everyone’s originality! Bravo!
I just love your energy and motivation. Keep it up brother!
Hey the lessons thing is great but what I love about GT the most is the amazing records he makes and kick ass performances he does ! Keep rockin! 💪🎸 🤟
