In reality, domestic horses can't survive in the wild. They will be rejected by wild horses and likely die of loneliness or be killed outright by the dominant stallion. Redford actually bought the horse that played Rising Star and had him for 18 years before the horse died.
Some horses could survive in the Wild, it wouldn't take much for a horse to revert back to their natural instincts, especially if its one that already displays some wild behavior. It would really depend on how old the Wild stallion is, and how healthy he is.
Beautiful horse. I’m not a horse person but I think they are magnificent creatures. I will watch just about any movie about a horse. Not the kid stuff. But this one, Hidalgo, and Secretariat are superb.
Had to come back, I just remembered something . I'm not a horse person, but I love all animals. Once I accompanied a couple of friends to the horse races in New York . The winning horse was taken to the "winner's circle" and people were all over to see their winning boy. I didn't care about any of that ; I was just looking at that horse that was right in front of me, all sweaty and breathing loud and I looked into his eyes and I saw what a noble animal he was. I could see his pride. He knew what he had just done and I could see it in him, his huge soul and his pride . That is all I remember about being there that day . I'll never forget him .
That talk he has with the horse before he lets him go really got me. I'm crying still. I saw this in the movies when it was out. I loved it. Last few days I started thinking about it when my buddy told me he likes Willie Nelson. It brought this song back and with it, the movie. Damn, it's beautiful !
"I thought you guys were pals"
"We are."

Greatest scene in a movie ever!!!
As a youngster of the 70s, I watch this clip many times. It reminds me of better days.
