This movie came out when I was 11 years old. I fell in love with it then (and Jane Fonda too). When it was on HBO I tried to watch it as many times as I could. It's one of the small handful of movies that I have seen at least 15 or more times. I haven't seen it in decades but I think of it often. This scene is so beautiful. Thank you for posting it!
. . . Here's the hint. One of those horses which is in dark color from this clip was transposed it to white color for TriStar Pictures' 1st logo from 1984. I'm not sure which color is it.
I don't know what version you guys watched, or what you think the song is, but the one that is playing is the only version of "My heroes have always been Cowboys." is the only one I can find. Are there clips that haven't been saved, or scenes that are missing from the film besides the original soundtrack?
@@cinemacrusade3163, due to legal problems (I think he had a tax debt of millions of dollars) Willie Nelson was having, the song was removed and replaced with something else. Years ago when I bought the DVD I was shocked and disappointed by the change. 🙁
Silver Reef Canyon! I thought everybody knew that. Although, Jane Fonda's "Alice", mistakenly took it to be Rim Rock Canyon. The John Saxon character figured it out near the end, that it was not. ( happy ending for the horse though )
My favorite movie of all time. Took me a while to find the universal DVD with the original music. Loved how one of the horses in The Horse Whisperer was Rimrock. Would love to know who has the saddle and tack he used that lit up.
@@lisadc4681 I've actually bought it from Amazon, and it doesn't have the original soundtrack people are saying it did. People are saying it's also missing scenes, but my mom says otherwise, so is it true that the DVD is missing some scenes?
I know! Still, don't know why this great movie didn't do that well. Hollywood royalty for actors, beautiful scenery, funny in parts, sad in parts, great music, amazing ending! Another great movie that didn't ever get much recognition was Last of the Dogmen, with Tom Berenger and Barbara Hershey. Find that and watch it if you haven't seen it, excellent as well!
In reality, turning a domesticated horse loose into the wild is usually a death sentence for the horse. Wild horses won't accept him and will drive him away or even kill him. Or being social animals, the horse will die of loneliness.
You're right, I'm sure. You can't turn any fully domesticated animal used to being fed and housed, etc into the wild and expect them to know how to survive on their own. Not really even wild animals raised in captivity, they don't have the know how and skills to just live in the wild suddenly.
What do you mean by "And the point is"? The point is, he took an abused horse. And set him free like he knew he should be. In a way, Sonny was doing both him and Star a favor, because Sonny was also setting himself free. The pep talk was for himself as much as it was for Star.
I’ll bet you’re the type of guy who looks into the bottom of the toilet bowl after pinching a fresh loaf, then asks, why. Sometimes one can be overly inquisitive.
The point is... It's kinda like when you give someone a gift, just for the sake of giving, and that other person then says, 'You didn't have to.' That's exactly why you did it - you didn't have to. That's the point - it came from your own heart and soul with no strings attached.
Years ago, there was a horse show & this magnificent horse was there.Grew up in Tx & this video makes me so homesick
Fantastic, highly under rated movie!! The last scene is just breathtaking..
Beautiful horse footage

Me too. We are the same age and this was one of my favorite movies on HBO back in the day.
That was beautiful photography….just gorgeous as he’s running towards those mares.
THAT - is one beautiful, magnificent horse.
I absolutely love this… when life was real…. ❤️
I so love this movie
A scene I never get tired of. Great moment in a great film. Thanks for posting this.
The parallels of the horse and the man, and how they transformed one another, sublime.
Beautiful moment. If you don’t love, respect and cherish nature. You will never understand.
The song playing when Rising Star was set free was Nelson's "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys" not "The Cowboy Way".
Redford bought the horse that played Rising Star and kept him for 18 years, until the horse passed away.

Hell yeah!! One of my favorite movies..
Great Movie Thank you 👋🏻 Horse Whisper 🐎👏
Love this movie and particularly this scene and song. Truly the best in cowboy tradition.
Back when movies were stories meant to impart something. Thanks for the post! :D
Always tear up when I see that scene.
Awesome movie. This was my favorite scene!!
Absolutely love this movie when he sets him free always makes me cry freedom like he should be❤
God !!! I live this scene. Horses are such magnificent animals.
Why can't I find this movie on Amazon, or Netflix or any other streaming channel? I loved it as a kid, and now it's like it doesn't exist.
Thank you for posting this. I love that scene more than words can express.
Great end of the movie and great song! Love this clip, too! And the movie, of course - even in 2019! Like! ;-)
Had a talk like that with my dog when wolves were on tv.

Good to see this clip was saved. A different song was put in place of My Heros Have Always Been Cowboys. It's the best.
Yeah, I don't like the fact that they took out My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys out of this scene! It's the theme of the movie in my opinion.

Just watched this on Netflix and a harmonica track now plays over this beautiful song, totally ruining the climax of the movie. Argh!!
