  • Do you want to get the leg that was affected by your stroke stronger? If you do you need to watch this video.
When you have a stroke, consistency of practice is necessary. When you want to recover from your stroke faster you need to do daily Occupational therapy sessions.
In this video, you will learn leg exercises for stroke that you can do daily.
First exercise is marching in place. Try to bring both knees up high as much as possible. Do this 10 times.
Next is bringing just your stroke leg up and down. Keep your knee bent and bring it up as high as possible 10 times.
Next is kicking up. Kick your stroke leg as high as possible 10 times. If you have a hard time doing that, do the strong like first To tell your brain that it is a normal movement.
Fourth exercise is stepping to the side. Step with your stroke leg as far to the as possible.
Fifth exercise is leg clams. Bring your feet together and let your stroke leg squeeze the pillow as tight as possble towards to the strong leg.
Sixth exercise is knee squeezes. Put a pillow behind your knee and try to squeeze it as tight as possible.
Seventh exercise is toes to nose. Bring your toes towards your nose then pointed down 10 times.
For the next exercises we will be standing.
First standing exercise is marching in place. Just like when you were sitting down, bring your knees up as high as possible. Do this 10x.
Second standing exercise is stepping forward and back. Imagine a straight line and bring your leg and foot forward and back following that line. Do they slowly to start with and when it gets easier do it faster.
Third standing exercise is stepping to the side. Step to the side as far as possible. Do this 10 times
Fourth exercise while standing it Tiptoes. While holding your walker, stand on your tiptoes 10 times While making sure your legs don’t bend and your legs are straight and locked.
Fifth exercise is standing on the stroke leg. Hold onto your walker and find your balance. Stand on your stroke leg and Swing your stroke leg back-and-forth for about 10 to 20 seconds. Do the same with swinging it side to side.
Then finally practice walking. Imagine a straight line close to your affected side and you’re going to step on that line as straight as possible. This will train your walking so that your leg will not swing sideways to step forward.

Hello again Nathan. I just want you to know that this particular set of leg exercises plus the couch leg exersises and the bed exercises have helped a lot to dimish the muscle pains on my affected leg. I aI can now do more leg movements without pain such as doing a squat from standing without support. Stepping over obstacles such as grass growing on walking paths outdoors has become easier. With your exercises I am looking forward to walking my first kilometer one of these days. Thank you so much!!!

😊 Thanks, I couldn't figure out how to navigate and keep me from swinging the leg, but this video helped me when you said try to keep it in a straight line. I would used the cain, but would speed up too fast like a baby take n the first steps. I learn if I stood still held my shoulders back like a soldier, I could hold a steady walk. So I am improving. I need to return to work, so these videos are very helpful. I pray that 🙏 you are able to receive greater opportunities because of your (HELPS).

😢😢💛🙏❤😢😢Hello. Had Stroke July 2021.Youre just a month ahead. Just read your comment, but was hospitalized 2x because of Cellulitis. Now I'm back to start again...from walking with cane and walking with heavy legs ...so difficult.I feel like giving up. I always cry because my right side has been affected and i have anemia ...always dizzy when I stand up, but I am forcing myself to walk little by little and I force myself not to give up. I believe GOD has a purpose why I'm still alive. It's 2 yrs 11 months...did you experience what I have experienced? Pls need your advice and help. Thank you. GOD bless.😢😢❤🙏💛 😢😢

@@leahgepielago2114 Thanks for taking time to chat. Never give up, it gets better. Now about feeling deezy when you stand, I have a sure answer for you. When I was discharged from hospital, they neglected to prescribe for me high blood pressure (hypertension) medication. So everytime I stood I will feel dizzy. Even if I'm holding on to something, a rail, wall or frame, I will find myself lyi g on the floor unaware how I got there when I had been gripping onto something. After I went to a doctor, he told me that the cause of dizziness is the high blood pressure and he prescribed hypertension medication for me. After taking medication I managed to stand up without feeling deezy to a stage where I could even try and lift my leg to walking with crutches and cane. Just be very careful with attempting to stand while you feel dizzy coz you don't want to fall face first, you may injure your eyes because when falling you just go blank and just wake up on the floor unknowingly. Get your hypertension medication, you will see the difference. Good luck and bless you 🙏

Hi Nathan, I have been following your videos after I had my stroke in 2020 that has severely affected my left side.. Since 2022 I have been training on a rowing machine daily. It is rather easy to motivate myself to do my exercise on the rower every day while I always have had trouble to do the normal exercises like the ones in this video. I feel it also helps to improve my general physical shape. What do you think about the rowing machine to use for recovery after a stroke? Is it good or am I training just the wrong set of muscles in my legs, torso and arms? Thanks for all your help and regards from Spain.

@@SKILLSANDWELLNESS , thank you for your reply. Basically I have trouble with the leg exercise starting at 1:49. So I hope I can improve general movement while doing rowing exercises instead. I can walk with a brace, since summer 2022 I stopped using a cane. I go too slowly to consider walking as a exercise, so in August 2022 I started rowing and only walk when necessary in daily life. Apart from my left leg my left arm is totally affected as well as some things in my mind.

Just curious....do people ever recover their full mobility? There are thousands of such videos on RUclips and none talk about the recovery.

This is exactly ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUHHotQRjIQnfuxEeVotlkHVYWH0DXZoS what I needed to get some exercise while I'm stuck at my desk all day. It's just the right size. Only downsides are that the right oeddale unscrews itself while I use it and increasing the tension causes it to squeak while in use. Both are minor issues that aren't that important to me. So I give it 5 stars.
