New year, new build! Follow along as a beautiful new partscaster gets born!
Enjoy :)
second comment
It would be great if I could have that green telecaster behind you,, hahaha..😁
Sounds great i love the tones you can get from the Franchin pickups! Thanks for introducing us to some great companys!
The copper and bronze leaf is your shielding!
Hey I have a question for u and please I want a honest answer I am 50 years old and I been looking at all your videos with that said I don’t know how to read music and don’t know how to play guitar but looking at your videos I feel like I want to learn do u think it’s a waste of time to learn
Darrell on the Franchin: "There is no shielding in here, that's a little bit surprising."
Me: "The entire body is shielded, it's all metal leaf!"
I thought the same thing! Haha
Does Copper leaf shield RF quite as well as thin copper foil?
I think it’s pretty delicate stuff!
Shielding is not always needed. Good pickups, even single coils can be made very quiet.
Came here to say this too! 🤣
well I did notice that while he said there is no shielding and that's disappointing ...but he didn't actually do anything about it, when he soldered it together there was still no shielding.
Darrell shows us a lot of cool affordable guitars, every now and then I like to see him go nuts with ultra high end stuff. Rock on.
That Rubato neck is wicked.
@@danceswithdirt7197Check out the KLOS neck. Half the price, better design.
@@MashaT22 Thanks for the suggestion. Half the price is still stupid expensive though haha!
@@danceswithdirt7197 dude, I have a Rubato neck and it lives up to the hype. The Klos one isn’t a better design, it’s way more limited. Nickel/silver frets, two standard options and that’s it. The Rubato is almost fully custom, stainless steel frets (which is a big deal since regretting carbon fibre is not ideal), tons of fretboard options, it’s amazing.
@@alpeterson Thanks for the input dude. Honestly they both look cool. I can't afford either lol. I'm not good enough yet to justify spending that much money on a guitar let alone a part of a guitar haha.
For anyone who is wondering those Rubato necks are beyond AMAZING. I got one a year ago and put it on a Jazzmaster build I did, it’s by far my favourite guitar now and that neck is a huge reason why. Totally worth the money!
The neck of an instrument is the prime consideration. This sole factor (big vintage style carve) got me playing a Telecaster.
@@j_freed exactly, the neck is what you really play. To me it’s a no brainer than an amazing neck would be worth a high price tag.
Worth the money? Not thanks
@@the.communist do you have one? Have you played one? Don’t criticize just over the price. It is a high price, yes. And I wish it were cheaper but there’s only so much a small family operation can do to lower costs on something this bespoke.
I'd definitely be looking for a carbon fiber pickguard to match the neck. It would have to match perfectly, though. Great post, D.
Klos has a CF neck for preorder at half the price. They’re asking $200 upfront, $200 when delivered. Their CF pick guard is $80 add on. The form is on their website or you can contact them. KLOS is high quality and the design looks even better than this neck IMHO. I have had one of their full sized hybrid acoustic guitars since 2018 - it’s killer!
@@MashaT22 But as someone has already pointed out, half the price but only half the neck…No Stainless Steel frets!
@@ces69 most guitars don’t have stainless frets. Most people also find out they hate the very treble leaning tone of them and end up switching them back to nickel.
The KLOS also has a truss rod to get the neck perfectly straight or with a hint of relief.
The KLOS has better Ferrells where the bolts screw in. Much more durable than what I saw on this more expensive neck.
The KLOS headstock is MUCH smaller, which is better for tuning stability, travel, and durability And they usually have high end Ratio tuners, which make the tuning on point. Usually also have a GraphTech nut.
Even if someone took a KLOS neck to a shop and had stainless frets installed, they’d still save a ton of money over this other brand and have other features this neck doesn’t offer.
They also have a bi-directional pick guard available for $80. I saw comments asking about that. This other brand doesn’t offer that.
They are also willing to do a setup and other customizations/changes for people who want to send their body to KLOS starting at $100 including shipping.
Honestly, my KLOS neck has really held up, and I have a hybrid neck - meaning it’s wood with CF stiffening rods and nickel frets. The frets are fine with nearly daily playing for 1-3 hours each time. I tend to dig in deep also, so I put lots of stress on the frets. Since 2018, I only had to have a few of the top frets recrowned a hair because minor divots started to appear on the treble side. Given the amount of playing and digging, I’d say that’s pretty solid.
I don’t think people have to worry about the KLOS holding up.
It’s well made, the neck shape is super comfortable. And you’re stuck at the stainless frets? That’s pretty silly for a neck that’s far superior for all the above stated reasons. Like I said, most guitars don’t have stainless - and you’d come out way ahead if you had them installed yourself at this price.
Not here to change your mind, but I’m just trying to get you to see past the stainless frets part. There’s much more to consider when you look past that.
That sounds so smooth, I almost cried! Sweetness!!! What a treat to see and hear!!! Thanks for dreaming this one up!!!
Those pickups sounds beautiful.
Maybe the most beautiful guitar on the channel! That body is gorgeous! Proud to be italian!
Absolutely gorgeous and such a great tone range. What spectacular artwork on the strat body.
WOW !!! What a beauty!
The best guitar channel 🥹
It has a killer chimey tone. I am very big on vintage Tele and Strat PU's. The whole guitar is very impressive.
Wow, it’s beautiful!
Thanks Darrell
Awesome 👌
Very cool build. I love seeing the creativity of foreign makers. In the States, a Stratocaster seems like it's only a Stratocaster if it's painted 1 of 8 colors and we can't stray too far away from maple and rosewood. Europe and Asia are making unique/quality instruments that I hope get the love and recognition they deserve at some point in the near future.
Because maple and rosewood are probably the best tone woods
@@truthhurts3492 loved skunk baxters strat, you know the clear acrylic one. Must have been that "tone acrylic"
@@rodneyketsa8554 but a wood fret board
Wow, that turned out amazingly! And such great tones, too.
Beautiful build, I wouldn't change a thing.
Very nice sounding pickups. Their body selection looks really good too
That's going to be a beauty. Perfect guitar neck to go w it. Real champion 🏆
Rings like a bell. Got that old Strat squack in buckets. Love this build!
That body looks beautiful and with the Rubato neck, it’s totally stunning!
@DarrellbraunGuitar. per Darrell, there is no such give-away. STOP SCAMMING!!!
me: Those are cool, but I am sure they don't make left handed bodies.
me after going to the site: They make left handed guitar bodies!
Nice 🎸 Thank for Sharing 📹
Wow, beautiful combo. Love that gold, copper etc.... leaf finish, looks stunning.
Beautiful guitar!!!
I think this is one of my favourite builds you’ve done. Beautiful guitar!
Beautiful guitar.... WOW! 😍
Clear and crystal 🔮!!!!!!!
That paint job is shielding
Sounds very cool . Congrats ....Nice tone and can feel the playability must be great also...
Sounds and looks great! Thanks 👍🏻
Very cool build!
What a beautiful axe
That ice blue is gorgeous, but what a sweet signature series Italian guitar. So awesome. This is Donny Scott in Ft. Worth, Texas.
I always enjoy your videos darrell. You remind me very much of my best friend Judd W. (RIP) which is bitter sweet of course. Keep up the great videos and nice build!
This was some of the most pleasant strat sounds I've heard in a long time.
HOLY CRAP!!! Beautiful and the neck site choked me out for a bit😮!!!
I but I love it!!! The body you got isn’t findable in their gallery, but the bodies and finished guitars are incredible however😊!!!
Great show you matched semi-affordable with no-effing way very nicely!!! Amazing job Darrell and my favorite show of all time!!!
KUDOS
I’m 72, out do this, I DARE YOU!!!🎉❤😂
Darrell a con job post!!!!! HELP😮😢
a carbon fiber pickguard would be fantastic on that thing
Seems like the metal leaf may eliminate the need for shielding the cavities. The routes are already inside a metal cage, it is just a few inches away on the outside of the guitar.
Stunningly beautiful!
I don't know that I'd call it a "build" but, it looks great
Thanks for all the trouble you go to , to make these videos Darrell. Love the look of the strat body. Cheers from Melb. Oz.
Sounds pretty bright.
I made the mistake of checking out Franchin's website... they have so many awesome options for guitar bodies, sounds like I'll have to order one someday
Yeah me too and they aren't even that crazy expensive, really.
Ooo! Fxckin sound,This's Excellent stratr on your Chanel bro!😮
Happy new year Darrell! Love the heck out of your videos dude.
Once again, another great video.
Thank you buddy.
this sounds and looks fantastic !!!
That is absolutely stunning. By far the best build I’ve seen yet. Gotta have it!
YOU'RE designing guitars!!? There's more to you than most of us would expect. Good for you, man. They are very nice to look at. You have some great taste!
Each time you show us someting new and unique. It's so cool! Go on, Darrell!
Darrell, This new build is sweet and sounds so clean and spanky, but your 'Signature' guitar is just gorgeous,.. WOW!
You certainly have a knack for finding the unusual. That looks real sweet and sounds even better.
This partscaster is where the guitar really becomes art. Question for anybody. "Dime" size pots have the same electrical resistance as the larger pots. Guitar pickups are low wattage. What is the advantage of the bigger pots? Are they smoother? Do they hold up longer? Are they more mechanically robust?
Bigger pots (quarter size) are about 2.5 times better than dime sized pots.
In all seriousness, though, provided they're both of good manufacture, I'd say the difference is negligible.
I think they say that dime sized pots aren't as good, because most often when you see them they are of low quality.
Звучит очень достойно Фендера ! Она уникально своеобразна.
Absolutely love that gets off thanks for the video
definitely a wild looking guitar
Darrell, you should do a build with a resin and wood body strat. They're beautiful.
I just ordered a Rubato neck (NOT shilling, I promise) with some saved up $ for a new guitar.….I have a loaded strat body so I’m anticipating a pretty easy conversion. Wish me luck!
That is a unique nut!
That sounded amazing wow, wasn’t expecting that
Love that Strat at 1:15!
Domo arigato Mr. Rubato! \m/
Someday you will learn the meaning of “unique”. Looking forward to it.
🎸👍
Just beautiful!
Looks & sounds very good. Bridge pickup has a slightly harsh attack.
that body finish almost saves that neck, look wise, form me, the color range makes the guitar look like a whole, and almost make sense, even with that headstock shape. it would probably still give me a braking feeling, while playing, every time i looked at it, but overall the guitar almost looks harmonious - and it's only because of the character of that finish. gorgeous work, not something i'd use, but, in itself, almost a work of art. those pickups, on the other hand, sound killer.
Sounds really tight! Got all the chime and spank .
wow , love it
Need to hear some crunches too👍👍😀😀
Tone. Looks. What else does one need! Great build. Very interesting video.
I love it! I took a sunburst starcaster. Added a hotrail humbucker, full block fender vintage tremolo, locking machine tuner heads, and a roasted maple neck from China with the bone nut installed. Can play all styles. So versatile with the combo of humbucker and two single coil pick ups. It's like having the best of both worlds, want blues, single coil it with some overdrive. Perfect. Want metal, humbucker it with a boss distortion pedal. You got the perfect metal sound. The roasted maple neck has a slightly brighter sound that's unique.
@DarrellbraunGuitar. Oh it appears legit. Let me know if I won a giveaway. Love your videos. I forgot to subscribe though. I will. I do own several guitars as well as a Harley Benton I got from Thomanns. Got the fusion 3 hh with 1000 floyd tremolo in natural, grover tuners. Roasted Canadian Maple neck. Stainless steel frets.
@DarrellbraunGuitar. I dont know how to telegram on here really?
I love that buttery tone I'm a disc guy my self but that guitar sounds super high quality no doubt.
That would look awesome with a bronze colored pickguard ! I like the tones. Can't believe they didn't sheild the pickup areas
Hey Darrel,
Awesome channel man, you certainly give me lots of cool ideas for some builds I do here man. Figured I’d just make a quick mention about the shielding paint and share this, if the body you plan to do this to already has the cavity painted ( I know this happens with Nitro ), the shielding paint won’t adhere to it so in many cases you just need to take a Dremel in there and take that finish off carefully and then apply the paint and it comes out perfectly 🤙
Once that’s finished the nitro or whatever paint you’re using will adhere to that 🤙
Wow at that Paoletti. I want one!!!!
Very cool build. I love the look of that body, and it works well with that very unique neck. I thought the tones were great, I wouldn't change a thing, but I love classic Strat tones. Good video, thanks again, Darrell.
Beautiful build! A nice combination of the Rubato Neck with the Franchin Body. That's a pretty special guitar!
Darrell, I received a request to contact you via Telegram about a giveaway. Can you confirm it's legit and came from you (via Telegram). I don't want either of us to be subjected to spam or Scam. . . Thanks!
Cool build Darryl! That guitar body is routed for 3 single coils so if you're thinking of installing humbuckers they'll have to be stacked or you'll need to swimming pool rout your new body!
Not sure you want to make this modification on a unique body like that one🤔😃
As a fan of your channel, and possibly wanting to build something similar, I'd be interested in knowing the total cost of that build! Neck, Body, Shipping, duty fees and taxes... seems like everything cool in Canada just costs more! Lol
J
Happy new year to all!
That's one way to spend 2800....I would like the chance to set it up and see how it plays cuz Darrel can make a 2x4 and six strings sound good.
Very good and amazing video and actually I hope that even for this company that alot of Subscribers see this video!!! Good quality and great finish and appearance deserves just rewards 👏 👌 👍 !!!
The body finish is spectacular! So is the neck, and the pickups sound great. It's way, way out of my league in terms of price and I have to say that I'd like it a little more if the body were less traditionally Strat-like in shape.
You say that not a lot of companies are doing unique finishes like on this guitar, but every major manufacturer has a custom shop/ mod shop that is pumping out guitars with unique finishes.
Franchin bodies are great! Have a Telecaster body from them, used on an Esquire build.
They hooked u up wit dat pickgaurd n trem D
Ok, I want that build in a T style!
Dont be afraid of building your own guitar. I was hesitant at first, but realized there are nice parts that are affordable. And there is alot of references and resources if you get stuck with something. Or need assistance.
@DarrellbraunGuitar. Nicegram
Darrell, love your work man. Ever featured a Parker on the channel?
Looks great awesome tone ❤ winner!
Impressive build indeed, beautiful.
Nice one.. I wasn't sure at first about the body.. but looks ok with that black guard..
Man, when you didn't copper shield that it destroyed me. I'm devastated.
I think white would have been an excellent way of pairing with this finish
Crazy, I refinished a 1988 Series 10 super strat to an almost identical finish back in 2008. I used copper metallic paint with an aging agent to achieve the look. I've since done a relic job on it. I'd love to send you some pictures of it.
Nice build. That body and neck look great together. As for the shielding, with all that copper and bronze foil it might not need shielding, but no harm shielding it to be safe.
Curious why you didnt put he CF neck onto the green 3D printed body and put some sort of fancy wood neck on this one. Either way both are cool!
I'm off to the races! ;P Great video as always. You're definitely an inspiration for budding gear review content creators!
Its good to know the pickup depths on the body. G&L MFD pickups are like 22mm deep and Bare Knuckle Cobras are 20mm deep so not all pickups will fit
I’d like to see a superstrat baritone conversion build. Thanks
