If youre good hands on, do it if you like it, but tbh buy them almost complete if you have any worries. At least at first. This will be my first full build, but ive bolted a few together like this build will be. It is fun and rewarding, but its not the easiest the first go around.

So I explained, sent the pics and they said “oh yeah; that’s a strat neck” and sent me a replacement. The replacement is functionally great-the best thing on the parts build it’s on- but the fingerboard is full of ugly dents and flaws. It just looks like trash. I just realized, Darryl said “Deluxe” with the body, and “Custom” with the pickguard @ 5:08 and I guess it’s really a kind of “hybrid.” The whole “custom” thing with the Tele models is confusing because they just switched the name from Tele Custom to Custom Tele. The Tele Custom was first and was basically a regular Tele with body binding, whereas the Custom Tele got the neck humbucker...and I think they both had the original Tele master volume and tone controls “strip.” The Deluxe, of course, got the two humbuckers, but also dual volume and tone pots, and the pickup selector relocated to roughly where it’s relatively placed on the Les Paul. I guess that makes this one a half Deluxe, half Custom hybrid.

I had my first Squier Strat years ago, ( I do mean years ago). which I bought used from Walter Ostanek’s music store in Niagara. I took lessons from his hired staff. Walter is Canada’s polka king. His son Ric ran the shop for years and had Long & McQuade come in, which removed the Ostanek name from the storefront
I had the guitar for a while, just taking the odd tab books to learn how to play songs. I moved around a few places, and it disappeared. Taken / stolen. I also had a flute and played the Pogues and Supertramp. I was better at that instrument.
So now.. married years later in Ottawa, with a family and with Covid going on, a lot of people including me, are getting back into hobbies, crafts and interests.
I came across your channel which is showing me options and learning in more detail how guitars work and how each pickup can really determine the sound and output of an instrument. You are also introducing people to cheaper alternatives which are more budget friendly and alternative companies other than Fender and Gibson. You also explain why the higher end guitars are more reliable and why people buy them. ( Even though they’re overpriced and you end up paying for the name or brand). But they are what they are.
If I were to pick up a budget guitar now, I’d be looking at a Harley Benton, Schecter, or Xaviere.
Guitar Fetish sells Xaviere guitars. It’s their brand. Your videos have also shown pickup systems that can be swapped in and out which can make a guitar very versatile. I clicked on a few links for the parts. Lots of choices for the build and give an instrument a unique look and sound.
Learning a lot from your channel. It’s so important to have people like you on line for those who want to learn, or those that are so detailed they want to build or rebuild instruments.

So cool! My last Tele build was also a surf green body and vintage nitro maple neck. I put a white-black-white pearloid scratch plate on it and vintage Klusson tuners, plus Lace Sensor pups. Great guitar. Wish I hadn’t sold it....

I just checked their site and NO lefty bodies or built lefty guitars??? We have it SO freaking rough with finding guitars. I wish so badly that when i was 12 years old and went into that little mom and pop music store to take lessons that the owner didn't demand that he flip the stings and nut backwards on my right handed guitar to make it a lefty. My teacher wanted me to learn right handed so i wouldn't have this problem when i got older but the owner of the shop said i would never reach my full potential if i learned right handed. So he flipped my guitar strings and the nut and i learned to play my natural left handed way and its been hell finding guitars ever since :(

For anyone doing a similar project, if you have pickups of different outputs the combined output will have more of the tonal characteristics of the LOWER output pickup. (So usually the neck) I know most people use one or the other mostly.

The problem is GF shipping if you live outside the USA. $126, more than the body I want. Worse, they won't combine shipping, 2 bodies is2 X shipping. Stupid and unnecessary.
I may as well go the extra yard and buy better quality.
I suspect the finishes are fragile particular around neck pocket, look a bit rough.

Without adding up all of the parts on the site, is it possible to get a ballpark estimate of the cost of the parts including shipping?
    $200? $300? $450? $600?...
A general estimate would be great. Thanks

Their customer support and customer service are absolutely horrible. They sent me a junk body, and expected ME to pay return shipping, for them to determine if the damage was what they considered “Damage.” WHAT??? Their lack of QA created the entire issue, but they wouldn’t stand behind their product. I will NEVER conduct business with them again. You’ve been warned!!!

Check this out! I picked up a USA fender neck from a buddy. Based on Darrel’s videos and reviews I bought a tele body from guitar fetish and a loaded pickguard from 920d. I’ve got a few other things to pick up but it’s mostly complete. It’s my first build though I’ve been tweaking my own guitars for 30 years. Darrell, thank you for such great content. Darrell, would a Wilkinson be a good bridge or should I stick with mostly fender parts

Hey Darrell Happy New Year . Try to make a video of that "Surf Guitar" or "surfgitaar" fender and Intel made in collaboration around 2005(i think). The guitar(Telecaster) that had a Tablet on its back. I dont know if it will be compatible with today's technology. But i think it'll be quite an interesting video. I've searched youtube on it, but i can't find any video about it.

I love Guitarfetish parts - but when it comes to electronic I prefer to do it myself with more expencive and better parts as feks CTS pot's. Make the electronik myself is some of the building prosess. In these days I do a Telecaster Deluxe with electronic that has CTS-push-pull for coilsplit. Wiring diagram is easy to find online.

Interesting way to see the similarities of your expensive and cheap build guitars and call them brothers, I would’ve gone for the alcohol approach and say original (black pickguard) and light (white pickguard). That joke may be forced but it had me laughing to myself for two minutes.

Ah darn, I was hoping you were going to build the body! And I always want the head color the same as the body, so I'd order one unfinished of course. I like seeing the woodworking that goes into building a guitar. Just throwing parts together isn't really building a guitar. Love your videos though! (Yeah, I know, passive aggressive as always!)

I just bought my first fender stratocaster, is a deluxe roadhouse MIM....is very nice but, I was looking for a strat to shred....like Yngwie Malmsteen you know....but here is the thing...my actual guitar have narrow and tall frets....I just put 09 strings like my other guitars but was very hard to play...so I got a 08 strings gauge and that was better but still feel like I need the jumbo frets or a scalloped neck...the necks with jumbo frets on fender are very rare and expensive...so I think is better try to get a parts-caster on the budget with good necks and special pickups.

Hey Darrell, I've been really considering going with the tele deluxe from xgp over the last few months. I had my heart set on a warmoth neck. I was wondering if you noticed if the neck pocket was tele or strat shaped. From the pictures it looks more tele shaped but the tele deluxe is usually more strat shaped from what I was able to figure out. Appreciate your videos.

One reason I haven't tried to build a guitar by buying a body, neck, bridge, etc., is that I'm afraid I won't get everything I need to do it properly (end up with a complete guitar). You have a parts list, but I'm afraid it's incomplete. For example, no links to the shielding paint or the tuners. If you could add links to everything you would need to buy for this project, that would be great. I'd like to get everything in one place, if possible. I've tried building a guitar at the Warmoth website only to find that they don't provide everything you need for a complete functioning electric guitar. The Guitar Fetish guitars look great -- if I don't decide to build one, I will definitely buy an assembled one. :)

So I just heard about a company named Palace guitars that can build you almost anything you want for $400 - $800. Granted being aware they are made in china i have an idea of what the quality will most likely be. Having said that I still would like to give them a try but only problem being i cant really find any reviews of them or anything like that except straight from there site... Has anyone by chance heard about them or have used them by chance?

Darrell, I am new to guitar builds. Is it true that the pickup/humbucker placement relative to the neck is crucial? Why are all strat style pickups in the same place? Do all humbuckers have to be distanced the same length from one another? Does the number of frets change these locations? Crazy questions I know . Do you have a vid on this?

    Happy new year everyone one.
Big fan of your videos. And I just did the same build all guitar fetish parts.
I swapped out a the neck for the same GFX neck on a T style guitar.
It all seemed to go really well. However it sounds like a shrilly tiny mess. Before the neck swap the tone was pretty good I liked it.
Now after the new neck not so much.
I’m at a loss for what I have done to now make this sound horrible. Any suggestions or advice?
    Thanks
