Come on summer. Winter has been crazy here in Utah. I'm at that point where I'm starting to look at my outdoor kitchen and thinking of family BBQs. That dream phase of warmer weather and the kids out of school. Fishing. Camping. Green lawn and flowers blooming. I like winter, up until Christmas. After that, it can go away.
There's a lawn mowing sim. I just learned about it. The kids at work showed me. I'm getting my first Playstation since i was in the air force twenty years ago. This winter I'll still be mowing.
Excellent video! I learned a lot! The only thing I can add is that I’ve become fond of using the blue marker dye when spraying. It’s a great help to avoid over spraying and it fades away in a day or less if you water in what you’ve sprayed. Thanks again!
Great tips for what can be intimidating for someone that hasn't sprayed with a backpack before. I do it a little different, but I think it accomplishes the same thing. I just mark off 1000 sq ft and make about 3-5 runs and average out how much I sprayed, then I can use that data to make my calculations for the rest of the year. I like to do this every year because the sprayer could change over time due to wear and tear.
Very nice tutorial video!! Thank you! I just purchased a backpack sprayer and excited to use so I don't have to use hose end sprayers anymore. All your tips will help me!😊
Great video! My lawn will be mowed today. The temperature will be in the mid 80 here in Jacksonville Fl until the late afternoon. I plan to apply Next RGS and Air8 in the evening which the temperature drops to high 70s and water these products tomorrow morning (1am) with my irrigation system. Is this OK?
i have a 5500 sq ft lawn in total. How would you recommend I spray this with a 4 gallon sprayer? So far I've been splitting up the front/back yard for fill ups. I have a teejet xr11004vs. It shoots .18-.37 gpm based on 30-60psi. I calculated that it should take just under 11 minutes to complete the whole yard if full. That sound about right?
Thanks for the video! Been following you for years and you’ve really helped me step my lawn game up so much to the point I have neighbors asking me what I do to it and I always refer them to you and your teachings. Now I just need to justify $300 for that sprayer.
I recently bought a house with a disaster of a lawn in NE Texas. It is st Augustine with about every weed known to man in it. I spread Prodiamine this past weekend and sprayed it 2 weeks ago with Glyphosate. I have the greenest yard in the neighborhood- all due to weeds. What (if anything) can I spray lawn-wide to kill weeds but not St Augustine grass?
Is it ok to walk right through the areas you've sprayed? Every time I get to the end and turn around, unless I were to go backwards on every other pass, I'm going to be walking right through the pass I just made. I'm starting a reno next week and don't want foot-shaped areas of living grass because I wiped off the glyphosate with my feet.
The higher setting is outside of the PSI rating for the tip itself. It will push more product through faster, but the pattern is blown out because it's too much pressure.
When you use a product like azoxystrobin that the label says mix with 2-4 gallons of water for every 1000sf... Are you double pass spraying or are you going to a bigger tip... Like approx 2x the flow rate? ie, blue or green floodjet instead of white? Also... Specific to azoxy.. it doesn't say to water it in or not... And doesn't give a recommended droplet size on the label... With the higher water volume, are you using an extra coarse droplet size and letting it just work it's own way down, or are you watering it in?
With the azoxy you mention, I would do exactly what you said, use the low setting and make two passes using the white tip. I do not water it in. I let it sit for at least 24 hours.
Great video!! Just a question I saw Pete from GCI covers 7500sqft with 4 gallon with Bio-stim and he said that’s how he calibrate his sprayer. What you think Sir?
yes he has a custom spray setup that he has patented that allows you to cover a lot more ground. That's how professionals spray because they need to be more efficient.
What are your thoughts on doing two passes going in opposite directions? I have used that method with success but I am wondering if it is just a crutch cuz I’m concerned about missing spots. Love the content. My lawn has gone from zero to hero and is still green here in SE Michigan.
doing a double pass is for sure a very good option. If you are used to doing it that way and you don't mind the extra time it takes then I'd say stick with it. If you are applying something like Air8 or RGS that doesn't change the color of the lawn, then maybe you can practice getting it done in a single pass. Either way works!! Also it's awesome to hear about your results Dan! Hopefully you will be mowing by the end of March this year!
@@danielquintana5620 you can pour a couple buckets of just pure water at the base of them if you want but established palms shouldn't need additional water.
How do we avoid a clog in an expensive backpack sprayer with thick fluids like RGS. I’m afraid to try it and ruin the sprayer vs cheap hose end sprayer.
Pre-emergent uses the tip with the larger/course droplet size and you water it in. Weed control uses the finer mist. Another example for a fine mist would be 0-0-7 Greene Effect which is an iron and nitrogen fertilizer that absorbs into the grass leaves (foliar absorption) so you want that to sit on the leaves and not water it in. Some fungicides also call for not watering them in so the finer mist would be better in those cases.
Alan, I have a partial gallon of RGS that has, since my last use, gelled to a point that it will not pour out of the container. Can I just add enough water to get it flowable again? If so, will this affect my mix ratios? Thanks, Joel Decker
yes you can add water and shake shake shake. It will effect the ratios but not to the point of doing any harm. If it ends up being too concentrated or too watered down, it won't make a visual difference in the lawn at all.
Do you account for the amount of liquid left at the bottom that the sprayer can't pump out? I never tried pouring it out and measuring, but it seems like about 8-12oz.
