- How to spray a 6,600 sq ft lawn with a 2 gallon sprayer. This is part one where I take you through the math. I like giving out advanced tips as it helps you gain more and more flexibility in your strategy moving forward.
All the math laid out from this video here:

Here is another blog post that I wrote in the fall and it's got even more detail linked and some unlisted videos I made. It's using the same approach but with a 4,000 sq ft lawn. Remember, repetition is the key to learning.

Sprayer here: amzn.to/2MoCUoS Pennant Magnum here (only for warm season) tinyurl.com/y3h3ou4j This seems expensive but it goes a long way. Only get this if you have issues with doveweed or kyllinga/sedges. It also does pretty well on signal grass.
I'm buying a battery sprayer and spreading out Prodiamine front yard and back Feb... pre emergent. prob spelled it wrong

ha ha!!!!
Thanks Nerdy Guy. That sprayer is just what I need. I can't thank you enough for these short videos that show quick tips. Helps me more than the detailed ones.
This is the video I’ve been waiting for! Thank you very much. Looking forward to getting that pre emergent down much faster on my 35K sq ft lawn. Just need to watch this a few more times to get the big boy math ha
Ready for more great lawn care tips and tricks this year! Just got some liquid lawn aeration product so I can try to soften my soil, it’s super hard and compacted. It hasn’t really been taken care of by the previous home owners and needs a LOT of work!
How'd it go? I'm literally in the same boat as you. I just bought some air-8 and waiting for it to get shipped to me.
Been a beautiful weekend in Denver. Been outside cleaning up the straggler leaves and picking up sticks. Definitely mid winter domination over here.
Thanks to your instruction, I've been confidently applying liquid ferts and -ides with a 4 gallon backpack for 2 years now with excellent results. Continuing thanks for great info.
awesome, that is what it's all about!!
Advanced tips for the win!
Love it. Up here in the northeast just dreaming of getting out there. Planning the projects and goals for this season.
Looking forward to all your 2021 videos. Thanks Allyn 😀
Very clear explanation! Allyn Hane is my favorite math teacher.
Really great and clear explanation on the tips and the math. This video is a saver for future reference. 👍
Best math class ever. My 4 gallon manual backpack sprayer isn't working like it used to and I'm using all Greene County Fertilizer products. Time to get a Field King! Thanks as always Allyn! 👊🏼
hoorah bro! You will like it - solid unit.
As always another great video. I want to thank you for your enthusiasm and energy when it comes to lawn care. I came across your videos in late 2019 looking for Christmas light videos and got hooked. I once dreaded mowing the lawn but now I can't get enough of it. I throw er down and get a good 2 mows a week in now during most of the mowing season. I'm going through my first full year of treating my lawn with preventative measures and can't wait for the upcoming spring/summer. I wanted you to know the impact you do have on those of us who watch. Many thanks!
Nice !! Spring will be here before you know it 🤘
Same here his passion is infectious!!
So excited for this season thanks to you Allyn!
it's kicking off quick for sure!
I just bought this sprayer. Thanks for the recommendation.
Great video! And great information. Thanks! Going to be putting this to work for me.
The palm trees and sun is one of the reasons I watch especially this time of year when its cloudy and gray for weeks
Those gray skies are tough, I remember from Indiana. Glad the sunshine here helps brighten your day!!
So ready to get this spring started!
soon!
Just another fantastic video! Love the 80's theme music also - just bought my Flagship, Stress, Bio-Stimulants, and a new assortment of Tee-Jets. Ready for 2022! Throw 'Er Down!
Great video Al. When I was younger math was my specialty. I didn't even need a calculator. Now at this age a calculator doesn't even help. I will stick to my Ortho Dial and pray and spray and keep my fingers crossed lol. Great info though for the beginners and the advanced guys :)
Al ! Great elvis hair silhouette at 12:30 . Have a great week Reverend turf :)
I love this guy...although he kinda made me rethink if he has the audience's best interest as the exact same sprayer is $15 cheaper (which he dissed by saying it was a knock-off); however, the three-year warranty is what sold me on returning the Field King sprayer (bought on Amazon so returns are easy) instead of the Scotts sprayer. I would have kept it the field king as the $15 doesn't make a difference, but the two-year extra warranty pushed me over the edge.
Man do I get lost in the math lol. My brain goes haywire when trying to calculate this stuff, but I do get 1gallon, 1K. I am surprised you didn't link the teejet tips. No matter, great video, as usual.

Hi from Shelbyville Tennessee, looks like beautiful weather in Florida.
we have a cold spell coming but Im enjoying it now for sure
It’s 50 here but gonna be 30 tomorrow
Love the VP jugs! Worked for them for years, good products.
oh yeah, I only use their fuels for my small equipment
@@Thelawncarenut jug man was my nickname in college 🤣 if you’re interested in selling jugs in YardMastery I’m sure Vp Florida or Vp south can set you up. I like the smaller 2.5 gallon jugs along with the regular 5 gallon ones
The chart for pressure/flowrate is a pretty good argument for battery sprayer vs pump. The pump will start out applying too much product, then just right for awhile, then not enough. Having the electric pump will help keep the pressure consistent. Of course the electric pump will have to work harder as the tank gets closer to empty, so that's where quality comes in.
Beware of major tank pressure drop as the liquid is sprayed, which quickly halves the actual output of the teejet tip! I'd suggest not trusting the 20psi claim of the field king. Fill the field king to the full 2gal mark and time how long the entire contents takes to leave the tank with the tip you plan to use. I've tested a few of these and it's fairly consistent at 4:15 to drain using a VS5 teejet tip. Calculations tell me this is only a .47gpm flowrate equal to an average of less than 10psi through an entire tank. Way below the listed .71gpm at 20psi we use to here. This tells me the pressure in the field king is at 20psi only for the first 1/8 tank or so and the field king (or any other similar sprayer) cannot keep up the pressure as the liquid drains from the tank. So, bucket testing only a small amount and calculating for an entire tank will not produce an accurate result. Time your entire tank to truly know your output.
Also... There's a little filter in the spray wand handle. Make sure to clean that out after each use or it will clog up quick!
I love how you break down the math! Is there any similar 2 gallon sprayers that don't make the noise as you are spraying that much product?
Great video Allyn. Way to make dilution rates and increasing coverage easier to understand.
Good video
☀️Great video!!👍
thanks bro!
You always pick the best music. You should put out a play list.
Thank you !
If looking on Amazon for the sprayer tips search with TeeJet TF and all of them that go with the Field King should show up.
Can you recommend a tip to put down n-ext biostim on 1500 square feet? The stock red tip on the field king a bit slow
Hi Allyn, love your videos! What battery sprayer tank size would you recommend for a 10,000 sq. ft. lawn?
I got 1 and 2 liter glass beaker for making wine as well as 100ml cylinder which came in a set with 50ml 10ml and 5ml cylinders
Currently under snow up here “over by dare” but looking forward to implementing a higher ratio of liquids into my plan this year. Can’t wait to get started.
Lmao! Great intro Allen. Great vid.
Not sure I completely understand at 9:08 he says if his solution was higher he would back down his concentrate....
If "what" was higher exactly?
What do you recommend as a post emergent for cool season grasses that I can tank mix with rgs?
Hi Allyn Enrique here in Houston should I overseed my bare spots in my st. Augustine with perennial rye?
Can you use a Chapin G362 hose end sprayer to apply the RGS product
Where can I buy the tee jet tips in a pack like that?
I’m learning a lot from the videos on how to take care of my lawn. Do you have a link for the steel tips you are using in your field king sprayer? Thanks in advance 🤙
Love the 1 gal 1k mindset however I used a Hi yield product calling for 500 ft per gallon. Took forever to spray 16k ft. Looking into the T jet tips just not sure if they will be compatible with the chapin pro sprayer. Thanks for the vid
Is it too early in the season to trim my palm trees and my philodendron Xanadu plant?
Can i use that sprayer to put down rgs humic 12 and air 8 together ???
Great video 👍🏻 I actually enjoy the "advanced" math... 😂
Hoorah thanks bro
Does any of my fellow Lawn Care Nut brother know what I can use on King Ranch Bluestem? Their horrible weeds in Central Texas.

@@Thelawncarenut also missing the winter mowing videos.
Is there a video explaining how to keep your lawn from going dormant like yours? I didn’t see it but maybe I missed it
You got a pov camera 👌👌
I literally just did this with my own sprayer. I have the same field king. I'm using teejet fan tips instead of floods though.
Nice!! Flex it !!
Thanks boss, the ol flow ain’t what it used to be
Wbat you suggest to use for 35000 square feet lawn
I just bought the field king sprayer. Is it best to have a designated sprayer for just Roundup? And use another sprayer for fungicides, prodiamine, and the n-ext products.
Great video, just now coming out of Dormancy, when should I start with the biopack treatments. Soil tempis still 55deg.
right now is a great time if the temps are hovering at 55 or over. use RGS and Humic12 out of the gates
If I wanted to only do 4,400 sqft (size of my front lawn) would that be possible with this sprayer and just do 3*4.4 = 13.2oz in the sprayer? And then just fill it up to 2 gallons, that would work right? It’s below the 32oz dilution threshold
As to surfactants. Many use and recommend using them with pre emergents.
LCN - bio-stim user + just ordered SpoonJuice and a Soil Test. About to order 7-0-0 Greene Effect as well. Hoping you (or the community) can help answer the following:
1) What spray tip do you recommend for 7-0-0 Greene Effect? The description specifically recommends “spraying this product with a finer mist” for foliar intake, but the charts I have seen for TeeJet Turbo FloodJet tips all have course and larger droplets.
2) What elbows are you using between the spray wand and tip? I can’t seem to find any info regarding those.
Thank you!!
I thought you were going to spray with your flip flops on! lol
Just ordered my prodiamine for the year from yard mastery last night! Are y’all planning on ever carrying glyphosate? I can pick some up at HD but they only have I think 18% concentrate
Yes we will have some later in the season. In a gallon.
Hey Allyn, I bought the Scott’s battery powered one before watching this video about the tips connecting and I’m trying to figure how to get different tips on the Scott’s, any advice?
You need to buy the elbows/connectors that come on the field king or the ortho versions. I have the Ortho version from Ace and the teejet fits it perfectly
Hey Allen I'm in Myrtle beach, Sc when is the best time to apply rgs and humic 12 to some st. Augustine grass, centipede, and Bermuda. It's still a little cool here
I would think you will be starting to get woken up in early March. At least the soil will for sure by then.
My backpack sprayer lowest psi is 70. (FlowZone Typhoon) Don't see 70 psi on that chart. Do I need a specialty tip?
So with this information I can spray my entire lawn (15000sq ft) with a 4 gal back pack sprayer???
Maybe Im thinking if this incorrectly, but 3 oz per 1k is the label rate. 1k covered by one gallon. So how are you covering 6k with 2 gallons of water? Wouldn’t you need to fill this thing up 3 times to cover 6k for the 3 oz rate? I understand the 19 oz is a more concentrated but within 7:1 ratio. But doesn’t the 2 gallons covering 2k square feet still come in to play? Am I overthinking this?
Allyn, when using different TeeJet tips and you use a tank sprayer where you can adjust the psi does that mean if you are using a tip for 20psi you should adjust the psi to 20?
you can adjust the PSI and it will output more. Look at the Teejet chart and it shows you the output at varied PSI levels.
Sure would help me to cover 60k sq ft in one sprayer. I’ll need to check my sprayer nozzles. I’m currently rebuilding my pump for the upcoming season
Where can I find the pack of tips at ?
Doesnt the cup you used to measure the RGS have ml markings on it too?
It dies but the amount was too small for that large pitcher.
Sorry for the stupid question but i think I've been using the rgs wrong.
I have 2k sq ft. I use 2 gallon tank sprayer.
How much rgs do i use in 2 gallon tank sprayer for 1 thousand sq ft?
32oz of rgs or 3oz🤷♂️
I'm so confused 🤦♂️ lol
Please help.
Husqvarna makes a version like the field king that you can change the nozzles on as well

Hello, I bought this Field King sprayer. I used it 3 times and it would no longer charge up. I was able to send it back for a refund. I need to find another sprayer. Any recommendations?
I have a very high quality back pack sprayer but we are out of stock for this season - will have more in FEB 2024 thelawncarenut.com/products/4-gallon-backpack-sprayer
Hey LCN when you gonna convert your front yard to all Scott’s pro-vista?
I have thought about it, but I just love the Palmetto. It's softer for sure, and very dark green. The Floratam, I may get rid of that soon though
Greetings. Michigan resident here - been watching you for at least the last two years. What pre/post-emergent would you recommend for removing sedges?
there isn't really an affordable option to prevent sedges in cool season grass but this works as a post emergent - thelawncarenut.com/collections/herbicides/products/halo-select-halsulfuron-brand-alternative-sedgehammer takes about 21 days to show results but works well when it does kick in

Hey Al where can I get the steel teejet spray tips? Link to them please!!!
I get them on Sprayer Depot www.sprayerdepot.com/products/tf-vp3-turbo-floodjet-wide-angle-flat
Approx, 4:29 you mention constant 20psi rating of the pump, I saw another of your vidieo's don't remember which one, that you had issues with some FK battery/pumps not providing constant pressure on some batteries..
Looking at the FG description of the pump it says "keeps pressure constant between 14-21 psi" how does this affect your spraying output ?
it's not a very good solution but it's really the only one accessible to most people.

When tank mixing, should I consider the dilution of the most restrictive product? For instance, RGS is 7:1 and Pennant Magnum is 1:1, therefore is it true that the volume of all products combined cannot exceed the 32oz that you demonstrated? If so mixing 19.8oz of RGS + 5.6oz Pennant (165ml) = 25.4oz, which is still under 32oz 👍
Yes, exactly correct. Good work !!
Good clip Al but I have a question. If I have 6k SF and I wanted to use that can for let’s say a fungicide that calls for X amount of fungicide to 1 gallon of water per 1k SF I would need at least 6 gallons of water making a can that size not usable, right?
I would get online and find the label for the product, then search the document for the word "dilution" and see if they give you minimum dilution rates. IF they do not have them specifically listed, then you would have to stick with the "this many ounces in one gallon of water" instruction.
@@Thelawncarenut, gotcha. I’ll have to pay closer attention this season. It would be nice to not need so much water to treat my yard. 👌🏼
Mr. LCN, Can I start my season with both Prodiamine WDG and RGS? It almost seems like one might prohibit the other. Am I off base with that thought?
they can go down together, no problem there. They have two completely different functions and don't interfere with one another, all good!
@@Thelawncarenut thank you 🙏🏼!
