did you all figure out who is in the role of Marilyn Thornhill?
Hey all, please note the names on the boats are Edgar Allen Poe stories: The Cask of Amontillado, The Black Cat, The Gold Bug, The Pit and the Pendulum. The team costumes reflect characters from those stories. They do have Tim Burton's style, though.
The garlic bread was an allergic reaction for the vampire 🧛♀️ 🥖
Wednesday has an all black uniform because she's allergic to color. They point this out in Ep 1 and Weems said they ordered a special uniform for her because of it.

They were joking. That wasn't serious. She isn't actually allergic to color, but the school made an exception because she's a dark person personality wise, and will only wear black. The whole Addams family is the same way

@@hellomark1 Vampires, magic, etc. are all rooted in fantasy. They don't exist, so real-life logic does not apply to them.
However, alergies do exist and Wednesday is human.
Fun fact: Ms Thornhill the teacher that was teaching everyone about plants is played by Christina Ricci who also played Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family films

That's the funny bit. She is LITERALLY alergic to color in the series so the school custom made a black version of the uniform for her.
Fortunately her symptoms aren't so severe as now.
Even though she appears able to do "anything" Wednesday is not a Mary Sue character because she does have a Flaw which is her inability to see connect with others on an emotional level and as a result tends to treat all interactions as purely utilitarian exchanges.
That and we see her fail at things several times in the series. Mary Sue's don't do that. And not just on small things.
Yeah, she has plenty of wrong deductions.

She blinks, but very rarely. There is a RUclips video called "Wednesday but only when she blinks", which I think has 104 blinks for the whole series.

Larissa Weems was Morticia Frump's (now Addams) roommate when they were both attending Nevermore Academy, and I think that their relationship may have been much like what we see between Enid and Wednesday. There are certainly layers to Ms. Weems. And everyone else.
but i don´t think the frump/weems relationship bloomed into true friendship.... i think they were more like bianca/wednesday caught in the same team...

Someone said the black cat suit was a nod to Tim Burtons Catwoman from the Batman movie
One of Edgar Allan Poe's stories was The Black Cat. All the boats/teams were named after Poe stories and characters.
The students at Nevermore Academy and their families are referred to as "Outcasts" (though I think they are more likely Outcastes). The students refer to the people of Jericho as "Normies," which is a more American variant of Harry Potter's "Muggles."
Wednesday is definitely a family/teen show. You have to accept it at some point otherwise you'll quickly be disappointed. 😅

I wouldn't say it is family show more of a Disney Channel teeny bopper show.
I definitely understand the Cobra Kai connection: they do a great job of making it for a newer young generation while balancing for the older generation with small bits of nostalgic easter eggs, all while staying true to the 90's original characters.
Also, I don't know if you guys recognized Christina Ricci as Ms.Thornhill... the Wednesday from the movies😁

The Addams Family was originally a cartoon published in 'The New Yorker', created by Charles Addams in 1938. Gomez in this new series is pretty much the spitting image of the original Gomez from those cartoons.

The Therapist, Riki Lindhome is great as one half of Garfunkel and Oates (with Kate Micucci). Comedic singer songwriters.They have done many great songs . My two favourite songs are The Loophole and Sex with Ducks,
I found the entire school environment to be very Harry Potter/Hogearts like w the different houses and the rowing games, etc. Jenna Ortega is about 99% of the reason I watch the show

If you only know the Addams family thru the movies from the 90's then you don't really know them. They've been around since 1930's and the lore hasn't been fully covered so I wouldn't judge it by saying this or that wasn't in the movies
Poe wasn't born born until after nevermore opened. my guess is that he wrote the raven to honor the school I think that the raven is a mascot. Lenore might have been a classmate of his. maybe his one true love

The 1960s TV series is great with John Astin and Carolyn Jones as the definitive Gomez and Morticia ( they had brilliant chemistry) Jack Coogan ( the silent movie child star- see The Kid with Charlie Chaplin) is also great as Fester, much better than Christopher Lloyd

Found a pic of Weems per your comment. It's a flat thin gold necklace that has two male heads. I zoomed in could only see right one. It has a frown and I think the left one is smiling like the Greek theater mask comedy and tragedy. I think Gwendoline has another like this but with upper torso and much thicker strand pieces.

You guys are demonstrating the best aspect of this show. It strings you along with clues that make you THINK you might know where it's going...and who is the villain...and you, like every other reviewer and myself were completely wrong on all counts. Keep watching and be prepared to be surprised...a lot. This show is amazing.

I know a lot of people who think Enid was pretty great as an optimistic foil for Wednesday. As for me, I think everyone else paled in comparison to Jenna Ortega. I don't think the rest of the cast sucked or anything, but Jenna absolutely carried the show.

I know what you mean about the show feeling like a disney show. its because of the dialogue. This show gave me strong "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" and "Riverdale" vibes, I hope they don't follow the same formula with later seasons. because those two shows started strong like this one but the writing just went down hill.

On a purely set-up level Wednesday is kinda bad: Why put a weird person in a weird place? If everything is weird doesnt that make her inherently less interesting? It's a school for outcasts where literal vampires and werewolf's are freaked out by a goth girl?! Ortega gives a very strong performance but even as a character she doesnt make a lot of sense: Wednesday claims to like violence and bloodshed but she is trying to stop the mayhem? If she's a contrarian why preserve the Nevermore status quo?? Ultimately the show is likeable but shallow. I dont really get why adult reactors are so into the highshool drama and love triangles...
Since I can't speak about the reaction the way I choose, even if it's a non-spoilery, positive statement, in order to please the other people watching, I'm just going to say, I enjoy your guesses to the mysteries of the show. Hopefully that statement is more acceptable to the rest of the commenters.

Yes she is. Without her, show would be like Velma. Changed show and not the show we remember. Gomez is made like a normal man who was as young, like Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind, madly in love in a Morticia who is by the way a witch, to the insanity that he dont even care about anything that she does, and as old guy, a very ugly guy. And Pugsley, a insane kid who we remember as explosive pyromaniac that always has the axe in his pocket, was made as wimp who is bullied by everyone in school. This is not the Adams family same as Velma is not the real Scoobu Doo, but thanks to Jenna Ortega who is only acting like the real Adams, and as what Wensday would be as a teenager, show is safe. For now.
You clearly only know the movies and are very unfamiliar with the source material.
I can't with the razzie CW acting from everone that isn't a "teen" and lets all laugh on that. But yea. It isn't offensively bad but outside of the dance no one will speak of this until the next season. Where it will be talked about for one week and forgotten.

Yeah you can definitely tell this is catered to a teen/young adult female audience. Which explains the cringe love triangle. Seems like catering to women just reduces the quality in general. This show should have been written for a young adult (mid 20s to early 30s) and the quality would have been much better. It basically just needed to be a bit more mature.
