Everyone always questions where Prime's trailer goes when he transforms...yet no one asks where Megatron's stock and silencer go. 🤔

This and G1 Galvatron have been on my list of "things I've wanted since I was a kid" for what seems like forever now.
G1 Megatron is a real blast from the past!!!
And with the first shot of the review we get the Patriot Prime from U.N.C.L.E.
There is no amount of tank modes or other alt modes that will ever quite be as cool as the original
Great review. I have the Japanese release. He comes with a set of pellets and a sword. Fun fact about the chrome gun. An all black version was used in the episode Changing Gears.
I need to rewatch that one.
Original G1 Megatron owner here; the Decepticon emblems are pretty much completely faded away and I sadly lost all the accessories aside from the scope in a fire, but otherwise he's in pretty good shape, rub sign still works and everything. I managed to buy a replacement chrome gun at a reasonable price, hoping to get the silencer and stock at some point, but he's a nice display piece as is. And yeah the bot mode is a little weird but that goes for most early G1 figures, they have a charm to them.

Destron designs makes great 3d printed replacements. I got the megatron set for mine.
In the UK Megatron didn't get released until 1985 so the commercial had Soundwave as leader (which in some Marvel UK issues he was).
Early Marvel UK (specifically issues 9-21) had Megatron (and the others) drawn as toy accurate as did the Ladybird books.
I don't have G1 Megatron I'm stuck with having Megatroun.

I remember a schoolkid at my school in 1985 came dressed as an "ASSASSIN" as part of a fancy dress day at said school. His weapon of choice as an Assassin? This very Megatron Toy. He was the most popular kid in school that day.
I found images on the internet of the earliest "GUN-ROBO" Megatron.
Apparently, there was a black version with a brown handgrip that only included the "photon pistol" and a big sword.
This is a #1 holy grail for me. I've wanted a g1 megatron for so long, I'd even happily take a reissue.
I might have mentioned this on some FB group before: back in the Summer of '84, I cut out a circle of red plastic from a TechSpecs, drewcross lines on it, and inserted it between scope pieces. It gives you a red sight to aim at your Robot enemies!❤

G1 Megatron is my absolute favorite figure of all. My dad got me this when I was 9, he loved it as well and got himself one 😂. I still have it, although not in good shape. I have most of the reissues as well as the Microchange U.N.C.L.E P38 set pre Megatron. Favorite reissue is the Encore version, there is a slight gold hue to his chrome which really shines! The red pellets can fire as well! Justva masterpiece of a toy, thanks for the awesome review Patriot!

Still have my original Megatron from when I was a kid. He came from k mart in Enid Oklahoma. He’s been repaired in a few places but still 40 years later he sits on my shelf.
Fantastic review Patriot Prime. This brings back so many memories. Never had a chance to own one, but I do own the MP-36 Megatron and i love it. I had a buddy when i was a kid who had him. We played alot of cops and robbers with his.
G1 Megs' alt mode is the Walther PPK, a .32 cal semi-auto pistol. Two known fictional secret agents use the venerable Walther: James Bond and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. G1 Megs is the U.N.C.L.E version, since Bond never used any of the attachments and used a matte black variant. Interestingly, Takara released a second gun-former in Japan based on the 1911, the favored pistol of The Shadow.
My Dad got G1 Megatron with his box and accessories for me when I was younger! A lot of happy memories and I still cherish the set to this day! 😊
Also, just to say, Megs can actually hold onto the particle cannon with the holes on the sides of his hands. They also work with the tabs on the end of the chrome gun. 😁
I've had Megs for 40 years and NEVER realized that about the holes in his hands.
Granted I never used the Cannon or Chrome Gun as a kid.

I always think it's funny that we went from Megatron to the likes of Misfire and Hun-Gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr in only a few years. The franchise went on quite a journey!
I always thought Hun-Gur was one of the worst names.

Yes, I still have my G1 Megatron. The barrelooks like it's in a certain anatomical location. It's thd same with G1 Scattershot too.
Megatron was so strange looking in robot mode. In pistol mode, he needed one of his minions to fire him off (hehe) since he couldn't finit himself. I can see why modern versions usually give him a tank mode instead. The tank can move and fire plus the cannon becomes the arm cannon.
I still have the original 1984 Takara Megatron as well. I did have to replace the stickers with your code from Reprolabels, which made him look great again. I love this and my G1 1984 Optimus Prime. Great review.

I have G1 Megatron, got him at a local toy shop for $175, loose. The only piece I'm missing for him is his little silver pistol.

@@PatriotPrimeReviews I thought so and when I saw him I knew I might not see him again, so I asked the store owner if I could put him on hold and pay him off slowly and he let me.
I got a takara reissue years ago. I use to keep it on display. Recently my 13 year old has gone all in on Transformers. She found my G1 Megatron and was so in love with it and impressed by it. The reissue is the one from 2002. He had the mace and a bunch of extra crap.

@@PatriotPrimeReviews the 2002 reissue came with the caps ( I haven't opened them) and she wanted me to try to go buy caps to play with it. As cool as that would be I said no because I didn't want to damage the toy. It is a great toy. I would love a new gun Megatron but I know it will never happen :/
I finally got my own G1 Megatron just yesterday, and I love it just as you do yours. Megatron's got a great transformation as well as great play value, even if he's a 40 year old figure. Hoping to get some of his accessories next!

Ah, the 80's when times weren't as crazy as now when I can use Megatron and play cops and robbers and the only thing I have to worry about is dropping him and breaking something! Cool review. I have my OG one in it's box (it's opened) and I got the loose TFC Japanese edition with the pellets and mouse pad. Cool stuff.
My dad had G1 Megatron when he was a kid. I wish I swallowed my pride and bought G1 megatron from my collectables shop when I had the chance. Oh well.
Great Vid! It's wild to see the old-school early-to-mid 80s toy guns, when they were striving for the highest level of accuracy with diecast metal when they could, according to the price point. Also, love the shout-out to to the wild history of Megatron from Marvel comics; I vividly remember picking up that issue of him blasting Ratchet just so I could figure out what was happening.
I always felt sorry for Megatron in MARVEL, they just never used him a lot.
Shockwave took over in issue 5, the Dinobots knocked him off a cliff and buried him in the snow for a few issues until he was found by a gangster. He blew himself up on a Spacebridge in #25 only to appear way later in in issue 57.
Then he gets blown up again, fuses with Ratchet, and loses his mind.
Animated Megs had it so much better. LOL!

Awesome review! It was really cool to see all of the options with the stock and scope parts. Thanks for showcasing that. Foreigners are always confounded by the fact that we can’t have a toy gun, but we can have all the real guns we want here in the states. At this point, it’s cheaper to get custom Megaton coating and engraving done on an actual Walther P38 then it would be to purchase a Megatron toy. His gun mode is amazing! I appreciate the bot mode too, although I would’ve been very disappointed as a kid. I’m glad you have him.

You had a heck of a christmas in 1984! I was only given minibots and combiner limbs. I loved them, but they're no leader figure
All us kids in school were let down by him too, it's a strange figure.. compared to the cartoon, but he did grow on us. Miss the 80s quality so much.

Amazing times. So thankful I got to live it on day 1.
So many short cuts, less bang for the every increasing prices, and just so much cheap looking junk these days. Certainly some good figs come out, but so so often they are just lacking magic.
Great review, Prime - a few things: 1. This could arguably be considered a “prototype” masterpiece given the unorthodox complexity of the transformation, 2. I’m somewhat surprised he’s never been referred to (as far as I know) as “Uncle Megs” by Transformers collectors. 😏 3. I don’t think it’s a stretch of the imagination to say that Galvatron’s assault craft (the big one) has roughly the same silhouette as Megatron’s chrome blaster.
Still on my list of G1 TFs to get (recently scored a complete Fortress Maximus!) I gotta say its cool to see you still haveh im after so long! LOVE your fit btw!

that is half true that we wont see a megatron gun mode again. the masterpiece one is the only other one that was
8:20 I don’t know about that. Everybody keeps saying that, but all the details are there. Especially if you look at him side-by-side with the cartoon and comics versions.
He looks as much (or more) like his cartoon self than Ratchet & Ironhide, for sure. But even others like Sunstreaker, Brawn, and Windcharger had fairly weird-looking toys compared to how they looked in the show. Megatron is certainly no worse.

As far as the whole toy gun thing goes: my daughter doesn't like guns. She does like Transformers, and has handled both G1 and Classics Megatron. As a gun. Make of that what you will.

I wanted Optimus for Chistmas when I was a kid and was so disappointed when I got Megatron... I whined about it at first but fell in love with it and in my first act of maturity I told my mom I loved it and apologized to my her for being a brat 😅

goofy as he is i LOVE this guy. always bugged me though that theyve never really seeemed to capture the fusion cannon right on any of his general release updates .
ok i know he's gotta be a tank now but no ones gonna care if the barrel of a space tank looks weird, just do it so we can get that iconic silhouette , cause nothing says megatron like that fusion cannon.

love my G1 megs well in gun mode bot mode is a mess. I have mine CIB though my box has seen better days. The Takara reissue "book" release is awesome rubber bullets that shoot his sword just awesome.
I almost bought that one in 2013 at a Con but didn't have the funds.

I thought I’ve seen the gun barrel upright behind his back like in the cartoon.
You can put it behind him, but it doesn't sit flush.
I showed his official transformation.
Times change so much……at a friend’s birthday party Megatron was the star present. No attending parents objected. The kids were in awe. Everyone was happy.

The Various alternate weapon placements might never have been shown in either contemporary fiction, but it makes me wonder... Perhaps the G2 and Armada Megatron designs were taking inspiration or paying homage?

does the gun barrel swings from the hip to the back (as in the cartoon). this always been my question.
It sure can, that's how I pose my mine, but it can be broken doing it that way if you try to place it flush to his back.
That's why I stuck to showing the official transformation.
You can put his barrel on the back like in the cartoon looks way cooler

Some people have broken their Megs trying to get it flush...so I just showed the official bot mode.
I always had the grey gun flipped back not at the side to me it looked better on his back or right shoulder than up front but thats just me

Looks good, we know Hasbro can't make him back into gun because gun laws so yeah. I don't the things on his chest kind of looks stupid on him, bother me and the Decepticon logo on it, no offense my opinion. But look good.

The coolest looking transformer EVER on the box art. And the absolute WORST looking transformer ever once you get it out of the box. And he looks so cool in gun mode, too. Better to just leave him that way, put him back in the box, and stick it up on the shelf to display, and show everyone that comes over how cool Transformers used to look, just make sure he stays in the box so they can't get a gander at his robot mode.

G1 Megatron is such a weird, ugly, Frankenstein's monster of a toy compared to G1 Optimus. It's no wonder that while Prime's general design has stayed consistant for 40 years Megatron has been endlessly messed with.

The one I had in 84 did have holes in the hands which fitted the particle cannon handles
I just looked, mine does too.
I honestly never noticed that, I never played with him using the Cannon.
