I like for Hasbro to make Broadside titan class scale, but commander class might work better for him. The engineering budget might just be enough to fit a big aircraft carrier to transform into his fighter jet flight mode. And for him to be base on the toy and G1 show model on the right 8:44
I would love the leader class for an IDW version of him, but if he has to scale with the other 2 triple-changers for G1, I would like Hasbro to do the same type of fold-fu they did with origins Wheeljack where they are able to unfold a whole aircraft carrier deck out of him, making him twice the size just through sheer surface area alone. Off course he would be as hollow as origins Wheeljack, but I think that giving people that surprise super big aircraft carrier from a voyager would be awesome
(Writing this halfway through the video) I would make the aircraft carrier Titan scaled and have him transform into a proper Titan sized robot. The difference would be in the jet mode. I would use the Titans Return concept and make the big robot a headmaster, a la Fort max, the head can transform into both the jet and a smaller robot similar to the TR version. that way the jet looks like a jet, no mass shifting is needed so that the small robot can run around with others. The carrier mode can act as a base that the jet mode could land on. Effectively, the Titan size robot would be the powered-up version of Broadside. You could write a lot of story for this and add in tons of play features (Power Master engines, combiner ports (G1 Metroplex), electronics?)
Hasbro doesn’t use stories to sell toys, at least not very well. They also would never actually use Broadside in anything. You also lose the Triple Changing aspect of Broadside, and instead turn him into a Star Saber type.
Even if it doesn't make sense for him to be titan class, i saw some artwork of gigantic Broadside battling Titalwave in the middle of the ocean and it was awesome.
I’ve had the idea in my head for a while to make broadside a small Aircraft carrier and a big Bomber or Flying Fortress. Here’s my plan: 1: the legs form most of the top of the aircraft carrier. And the wings/propellers on the aircraft 2: the arms form the lower carrier and the entire tail of the bomber. 3: store the bridge and Cockpit in the chest section depending on the mode 4: make it a commander class so he’s big enough to fight combiners. (He’d be ideally about Seige Jetfire size)
I feel like broadside can only work if something is changed, unless you make the jet a parts former situation it cannot work with the airscraft carrier...you either change the carrier into a smaller gunship or the jet into a full sized cargo plane.
Just pull a G1 megatron and change one of his alt modes. It's the easiest solution, either make him an AC 130 that turns into an aircraft carrier, or keep the jet and make his oceanic alt mode some kind of attack boat or w/e theyre called
Make Broadside a Scorpinok-sized Headmaster. The main bot transforms into a jet, and into the head of the larger bot. The vehicle mode for the larger bot is an aircraft carrier large enough for vehicles like Springer, Sandstorm, and the aforementioned jet to land on (a play set). This arrangement allows for both vehicle modes (the jet and the aircraft carrier) and an appropriately scaled robot mode.
Titan Class Headmaster. Broadside has a head mode, robot mode and a jet mode and comes with a Titan class jet carrier ship that transforms into a Titan body for the head mode. In alt mode the jet fits on the jet carrier.
We just need to forget Broadside ever existed lol, but if he was re-done make him a Titans Class figure. Would be great for his aircraft carrior mode and his jet mode can just be considered a space jet (craft mode) as far as the robot mode I prefer his toy design more than the pre animated look. Eh ok maybe a commander class figure after seeing your argument about Titan class figure. It does make more sense. Especially if you consider Tidalwave is really a combination of 3 vehicles the aircraft carrier mode on him probably is more of a commander class scale if it was a single bot.
I think the best option would be to just change his aircraft carrier mode to a smaller naval vessel that scales better with the jet mode, which would also make him match the size of the other triple-changers
16:54 Only his cybertronian form in war within was depicted as a giant, it's implied that he possibly downsized when he got his new earth mode body and mass shifts into his aircraft carrier mode similar to astrotrain.
I think a change in altmodes is required. Some 3rd party attempts were actually quite good in that regard. I have 3 ideas for that: A - jetmode is B-2 stealth bomber, shipmode is a speed boat of the "two-pronged" variety. The wings fold in to make the front of boat. B - jetmode is a bomber plane, not unlike Lugnut, shipmode is a submarine. The similar shapes could help. C - Keep the aircraft carrier mode, but change the jet into a Blackbird. As with idea C, this could help to better allocate parts.
I see your points, here's my take: 1. Do the Voyager+ route. 2. Make him Commander to be in scale with Jetfire. 3. Save him for whenever they decide to do Micromasters again, and make him a Titan Class that can interact with them in some way (like the Return of Convoy Autobots); carrier mode can mount a few aircraft, plane mode can carry a couple ground vehicles.
You could also go the Duocon route. Have his alt mode be a carrier and a Jet, and combine them to make a big boy. Maybe have the Jet be a cockpit chest robot, and the carrier become hit supermode or the other body design. That would make him a big guy and a small guy at the same time.
I think it would be better for Broadside to have a smaller boat as his second alt mode to have less compromises in each mode (although i have to admit, that would apply to every triple changer)
Leader Class or Commander price point. Pull a grand retcon and have the jet and battleship be two distinctive bots. Broadside can still be the battleship and the other (Starboard?) can have the jet mode with their own (relatively speaking) basic standalone bot modes. Pull a combination to get the original robot which would change depending on which one took the lead, the battleship or the jet. That way, you can get both designs of the chest and head.
I really like how the Mechanic Studios/MechFansToys looks. They do good looking triple changer's and not too complicated transformations but it's the size being legends class that is holding me back personally. Upscale that to a Voyager scale and I'd be all about it
He is the thing he lands on. I feel like you'd have to give him either a smaller ship, like a troop deployer or something, or a bigger plane, line an AC-130 or a large passenger jet.
Okay, I would go for Titan class for two reasons: First up, being a titan would give him the budget needed to be a commander with triple changing engineering. Second of all, he's the same size as Devastator in The Burden Hardest To Bear when he's fighting him off the coast of Japan. Also, are you challenging me? I bet I can find a way to engineer Broadsides hull to transform into the streamlined jet mode.
@gabrielangeles9123 Are you being sarcastic? Either way, I might as well showcase some other ideas I've drawn, such as a functional, non backpacked Arcee, and a Megatron that turns into a tracked artillery cannon. I just hope somebody finally notices my genius ideas. (Especially my Megatron. Galvatron could do it, so the answer should've been painfully obvious...)
@@Nausicaafan-go6lq Definitely not Sarcastic, and that Arcee sounds cool. I thought up one based off her unproduced Headmaster toy that still turns into her regular robot mode. I’m back to working on making a better Broadside in physical form, LEGO’s this time.
Commander Class: Two Voyager sized Bots that combine. Broadband becomes half an aircraft carrier, top half of combo body, a new alt mode (either ship or tank, whatever is easier) with red face head. Wayside becomes jet, other half of aircraft carrier, and bottom half of combined robot mode, and has the blue shades later toy accurate head. Combine to make Broadside. Pack in bonus, repaint of the stormcloud/visper micromasters in prototype colors.

A 'brick-solid' episode! 😂🎉 Having closely observed my own solid vintage G1 copy toy, I spotted details that look like a starship command bridge of sorts engraved along the 'nosecone' of the 'jet'. And when you remove the transparent blue canopy (held together by a pair of clear micro tabs), you will find not a pilot's seat & controls, but rather scaled-down building-like structures, textures and designs of an ecosystem of sorts hidden within ~ like a greenhouse or terrarium in space. It would seem that the aircraft is, in fact, a Titan space vessel of sorts (evoking the Macross Seven fleet) as opposed to being a mere jet. The dubious position of the 'canopy' also tends to support this. The subsequent cartoon & comics designs surely feature a completely different aircraft/jet than intended by the original toy designer. Following the design essence evident in the vintage toy, he would most likely be a titan without the need to 'mass-shift' between his 3 modes. 😅 There was also a G1 episode where the Aerialbots piloted a large rescue vessel in space (with a huge Autobot logo on it) that somewhat resembled Broadside as well.
I actually really like Titans Return Broadside. Really nice, bulky proportions, good articulation, really neat aircraft carrier mode and a decently good jet carrier
A Commander Broadside is top of my bucket list....I swear i have a good reason. When I got back into the franchise around 2017 I was going to mainly stick to the movies but the "New Figure High" was strong as hell so wen I went to Walmart I wanted TR Blitzwing but being a broke ass high schooler i had no money. Doin some chores later and I made enough but he was gone....except for another voyager triple changer. I swooped up Broadside and bein curious of who he was I did my research and it really is thanks to this goober that I found love for the concept of triple Changers again and my love for my fav sub faction, the wreckers. I hold the TR Broadside close to me because he broke me out of being a Bayverse/movie only fan and he got me curious of the many corner stones of this franchise. plz HasTak gimmie my boi in Commander scale!
You either go air craft carrier/spaceship, or jet/PT boat(something like a Cobra Moray). I can see a resculpt of titalwave possibly if carrier/spaceship is the route Hasbro goes.
I don't understand how this is even a debate, the answer is obvious. Every single model in Transformers is based off their original toy's silhouette to a heavy degree with only some creative liberties taken to make characters more visually-appealing or varied. Some characters were given different heads or faces since Hasbro likely wanted some characters to be more personable, such as Gears and Trailbreaker, and even Wheeljack had to be given eyes he didn't originally have. Figures only ever had body changes if they were just way too weird to have their toys transitioned into the media, such as Ratchet/Ironhide, and then Wheelie in the movie. Broadside is a good design, his head is unique, his silhouette in the final version reflects the toy well, and there's tons of characters both with and without face masks that there's no need to fixate on changing it up. The "original" design doesn't look a thing like the character at all, and that has never been a precedent set in the original Transformers toyline or series when regarding G1. If you got a kid for a toy and they watched the show they'd know who every character was , they'd know the toy they had was that character, even with Ratchet and Ironhide despite how they were clearly different. No kid would ever know this character is Broadside unless told. The head is wrong, the body is wrong, the design is just awful with incorrect kibble placement. There's no reason for Hasbro to make THAT into Broadside. They could, however, take the blue and red color scheme and make that design a new character entirely, That's definitely an option. Hasbro has no reason to not make Broadside look like his toy, however. Look at the details used in the Titans Return version which clearly emulate the original toy. That's what they'll go with, and there's no reason to do otherwise.
Let him be blocky! Square Transformers deserve love too. My approach would be to make him flip open from robot/jet mode to aircraft carrier mode, so he'd be twice the size in that mode. Yes, the height would be off in aircraft carrier mode, but let's just say he's already in the water for that mode.
I'm super partial to the Marvel UK look since that's the only thing Broadside's been prominent in I think? Honestly, he was one of the most prominent Wreckers in those comics! Also, I give it points because he actually used his aircraft carrier mode to transport his fellow "Survivor" teammates. So I think he should be the height of Legacy Sandstorm and be in his UK appearance. Like how there's a Wreck and Rule Springer toy in comic colors. Broadside can go with him, Skids, and the upcoming Carnivac!
New idea: Titan class broadside that transforms into an aircraft carrier but it comes with a smaller figure for the jet mode. Maybe use the one with the cockpit, the simpler design, for the smaller figure, then the other design for his main robot mode
Commander Class giant robot/jet/aircraft carrier (large enough to land the smaller Aerialbots on) based on his cartoon design. It could also come with a smaller jet/robot/boat that can be removed from the main body/vehicle, based on the comic book/prototype toy design (blue arms, red wings). This will allow us to recreate either the comics or cartoon. I know this would basically be two Triple Changers in one box, but the smaller one is mostly a simplified version of his bigger brother, roughly deluxe sized, with near identical transformations. The larger robot would have a hatch in the chest to store the smaller Broadside, something like an Ultra Pretender.
An easy way to fit the size disparity of Broadside's two modes is to A) make the plane akin to a jumbo jet as opposed to a jet fighter, and/or B) edit his bio so that he's a sort of "caretaker" for jet-mode Micromasters and Mini-Cons, to explain the otherwise too-small aircraft carrier
Ideally? Commander Class Aircraft Carrier -> "Cybertronian Spaceship" (It can look like a plane, or it can be an Ark-style shuttle) -> Robot, with in-scale Micromaster/Minicon jets being released ~ the same time. "G1" Tidalwave redeco. 'nuff said.
Broadside is a reference to a full salvo from a warship with cannons and later turning a Battleship or Destroyer and firing all the cannons in the same direction so would a Destroyer or Battleship be better than an Aircraft carrier?
Titan class would be the best way to go. This is a case where I think the scaling of his alt mode should matter more than his robot, similar to Tidal Wave and Ultra Magnus. Aircraft carriers have to be big and he should be able to hold all 5 of the aerialbots (4 voyagers, with a commander Silverbolt which are releasing next year). Having him transform into the Su 27 could still work, since in the show his jet mode is massive compared to cyclonus. But another option is having him be a headmaster, with his head transforming into his cartoon jet. Then giving him a new third mode that will scale better with an aircraft carrier like An-225 (still about a 1/4th the size of an aircraft carrier, but at least it is more believable) or a C-5M super Galaxy.
I like some of the suggestions in the comments. I would, change the jet mode into a spaceship that can carry other transformers. That way the two alt-modes could feel like they would logically be the same size. I would also consider making him big enough that a small collection of Power glide jets could be used with him and look accurate in size. (assuming we made a toy of him, that might take him up to titan size although I would rather he be one category smaller. Alternatively, I think I'd just replace him with a new triple changer. He wasn't a big enough character to be missed that much.
Year two: Autobots have their own Soundwave, create beast-mode transformers when the cons had them from the start, get a couple of jets. Year three: copy the cons wholesale by getting their own cassettes, triple changers, and combiners.
Commander class would give him the size to tuck things away so he could have a more reasonable jet mode. The fact is that the carrier is mostly panels on his back with a jet/robot folded underneath. Kind of like Silverbolt.
My solution is a drastic one but also the most logical: change the plane mode for something else. My suggestion is a submarine. If they want to integrate the plane mode then just make him a helicarrier.
I personally think retooling Tidalwave into Broadside is how Hasbro would have to go to give us a decent toy. I would hope though that Hasbro starts recruiting from 3rd party companies to find some one that could possibly give us one that is as close to G1 as possible.
I think the best way to do it is to remake the G1 toy, and sreamline it a bit on the cockpit like with Titans Return. And Commander class being the best scale to go for. Tbh the budget will help its engineering quite a bit
As someone who really wants to complete the G1 cartoon cast, I'll take ANYTHING new at this point, and my only attachment to Broadside is that I say "of a barn" whenever I hear his name!
Me personally, I’d love to see a commander broadside in the more g1 toy style design. Though I actually like your idea of using his boxy chest as an excuse to have both the two robot mode designs for broadside in the same figure if he was a commander
An aircraft carrier and a big aircraft triple changer could work, there is a lot of long relatively flat surface area in both shapes. They would just have to actually try unlike the last two times.
My idea is to make two, one at voyager scale with the other triple changers (Astrotrain, blitzwing, Springer, Sandstorm) that prioritizes the jet mode over the ship, and then a very unlikely figure, a Transformers/GI Joe Broadside. He would end up a tribute to the old U.S.S flag and would probably be a haslab order. Hasbro would of course have to make a decent GI Joe Transformer but I digress. While unlikely, I'd love to see a big ass broadside.
Make him a commander or titan that turns into an aircraft carrier. Have the head be a triple headmaster, robot to head to jet. You can even give him the different style heads
Titans usually have a Deluxe toy with them (such as Cerebros, Full-Tilt and Zarak). So how about two Broadsides - a triple changer Titan partnered with a Deluxe jet, both of different designs.
I say if you’re going to make a new figure of him take the best feature from the three different versions of him and combine them together with maybe give give him the same treatment as tile wave
I feel like Fansproject should be mentioned in this conversation. While, yes it is an unofficial 3rd party offering, I think they had the right idea... A radical redesign with IDW feels giving a non traditional jet and carrier. I feel like that's a great option for Hasbro.
Of course, there's always the chance Hasbro goes the route that pisses everybody off and makes Broadside a redeco of Tidal Wave with a new head and maybe one of the boats retooled into a plane.
I'm thinking something like G1 Ultra Magnus or Star Saber. Small robot with toy accurate head that turns into a jet. Carrier turns into an exosuit that fits around the jet bot to form a larger robot with the weird cartoon head.
The way I see it, Broadside's jet mode would work as a transport ship for the Wreckers, similar to how Astrotrain in his shuttle mode served as a transport shuttle for the Decepticons. Therefore, I think he should be a Commander Class figure.
I’ve got it. Commander class partformer take off blocks to make him a plane make the second if the first does well At voyager size do the second colour as a exclusive done also sell him at a larger price maybe a quarter of the titan class price.
I think there is a possibility to re-introduce this character as a transport for micro masters from G1. I think I would change the alt mode to this mass transportation airship that I saw in popular science I can’t remember the issue.

“Scale accurate” is him being as tall as Devastator.
Well he’s bigger than Cyclonus is not mode so I think he could have a leader on his size alone
When he is crushing Devastator Broadside has a Decepticon symbol.
Looks like the Autobot symbol coloured like the Decepticon symbol.
I’ve had the idea in my head for a while to make broadside a small Aircraft carrier and a big Bomber or Flying Fortress.
Here’s my plan:
1: the legs form most of the top of the aircraft carrier. And the wings/propellers on the aircraft
2: the arms form the lower carrier and the entire tail of the bomber.
3: store the bridge and Cockpit in the chest section depending on the mode
4: make it a commander class so he’s big enough to fight combiners.
How about this, you can make him a Titan to accommodate the aircraft carrier, but drop the idea that it is a jet, and make it some kind of spaceship.
13:10 easy answer, sac the jet mode and make a heavy retool of tidalwave
But that sucks. I want a Triple Changer.
16:54 Only his cybertronian form in war within was depicted as a giant, it's implied that he possibly downsized when he got his new earth mode body and mass shifts into his aircraft carrier mode similar to astrotrain.
Shoutout on my birthday! 🥳
Happy birthday.
Happy birthday 🎉🎉🎉
To avoid mass shifting make the plane mode the Lockheed Martin CL1201 so it is in scale with an aircraft carrier.
What if we reimagined the carrier or jet somehow? Like a differnt type of ship or a more space ship for an altmode?
I think a change in altmodes is required. Some 3rd party attempts were actually quite good in that regard. I have 3 ideas for that:
A - jetmode is B-2 stealth bomber, shipmode is a speed boat of the "two-pronged" variety.
I see your points, here's my take:
Bro I literally was thinking about this on the last q&a video, this is a nice surprise
You could also go the Duocon route. Have his alt mode be a carrier and a Jet, and combine them to make a big boy. Maybe have the Jet be a cockpit chest robot, and the carrier become hit supermode or the other body design. That would make him a big guy and a small guy at the same time.
Thats genius, but could they pull it off?
Send me that.
@@gabrielangeles9123 I haven't drawn anything yet, and it will take me a while to engineer it.
@@Nausicaafan-go6lq I’ll be waiting. I even came up with some designs using paper and twisted paper clips.
So, a giant Duocon like Battletrap?
@@TornaitSuperBirdyeah, with a combo alt mode too
19:47 Isn't there an image on TFWiki that shows how big Broadside is compared to Jetfire?
S3 was a aircraft carrier and a starcruiser, that the Aerialbots flew.
titan class who turns from a futuristic air carrier into a flying fortress style flying vehicle.
whatev for the robot mode.
edit: even if Hasbro makes him a voyager +, I can see myself waiting a 3rp masterpiece version then use him, cause he's the kind of character that can work at any size.
A 'brick-solid' episode! 😂🎉
Having closely observed my own solid vintage G1 copy toy, I spotted details that look like a starship command bridge of sorts engraved along the 'nosecone' of the 'jet'.
Titan class. The head and body detach, where the body turns into an aircraft carrier, and the head turns into a jet.
Carnage in c minor is just wow. Soundwave enjoying himself cause of music sold it for me as the goat.
I have a special place in my heart for broadside.
My answer, just make him a Commander class Tidalwave
IIRC, G1 Broadside is the second Transformers action figure with a water-based alt-mode after Seaspray.
New idea:
Titan class broadside that transforms into an aircraft carrier but it comes with a smaller figure for the jet mode.
Maybe go with a jumbo cargo jet for the air mode?
I do agree with the idea of trying to avoid traditional jet aesthetics for the robot mode
Its kinda why sandstorm has a mask even though the show did not. Its a homage to the og toy.
Akom, the company that made the '97 X-MEN that everyone was holding up as the Holy Grail of animation.
Does he have to be an aircraft carrier or can he be something smaller like a frigate or missile boat?
Clearly, the optimal solution is to make him an animated blitzwing style triple-changer with multiple faces
Is that a Decepticon symbol on the aircraft carrier mode?
Even what side he’s on is inconsistent.
Can't wait for the titan Tidalwave retool of broadside for Gen selects
They should do what fansproject did a decade ago and fuse both of his designs together. Make the toy head a mask for the animation head.
Make him a commander or titan that turns into an aircraft carrier. Have the head be a triple headmaster, robot to head to jet. You can even give him the different style heads
Broadside's final animation head is the og Helldiver.
Titans usually have a Deluxe toy with them (such as Cerebros, Full-Tilt and Zarak). So how about two Broadsides - a triple changer Titan partnered with a Deluxe jet, both of different designs.
Had the G1 toy so I have a soft spot.
Scale wise, I think they should scale his aircraft carrier to a similar size to Tidal Wave's carrier, though maybe a little bigger.
Apart from the new Tidal Wave Titan figure, Transformers that have boats or sea vehicles as their alt modes haven't traditionally done all that well.
I have to admit, I prefer the later cartoon depiction of Broadside in this case
I feel like broadside needs a more futuristic alt more like springer. I believe most of his problems come from the fact that one mode is so massive
