Toy Origins: Megatron | History from Microman Micro Change MC-12 Gun Robo to Vintage G1 Transformers

- Before Generation 1 Megatron hit store shelves back in 1984, we need to look at the toy that started it all. This is the MicroChange MC-12 Gun Robo, aka the black and brown coloured pre-Transformer Megatron that was part of the New Microman toy line, from 1983.
This vintage action figure has many of the same features as Megatron, with some differences highlighted in this video. This is the story and history from before Transformers. Micro Change was a subset of the Microman toy line, and a companion / parallel toy line to the very popular Diaclone toys.

Another excellent video Ken. Always cool seeing where it all started.
Thx, Chris!
Thanks for this insightful video! My favorite G1 Megatron variant will always be the solid gray/blue innards Japanese version.
Such a great vintage piece. Thanks. Ken ❤
A timeless classic indeed!
Looking forward to seeing this 👍🏼
The staying as separate toys can make sense for the scaling issue
Would have end up with more sense to Either have the Autobots be pretending to be toy vehicles or to have Megatron be a giant gun without the size changing
Great vid!
Awesome video Ken
Thx Casey.
Great insight my friend. Let's hope Hasbro will release a studio series 86 megatron in 2024, but I'm not expecting his alt mode to be a firearm by today's standard.
Yeah it'll prob be a tank like the WFC version.
@@ToyKennections yes I think so too most definitely.
Great video..I learned some stuff and I know a good bit about Transformers
Thx man!!
Wow this was excellent Ken!! 🤩 🔫
Thx Phil.
Excellent job on the video!
James 🤜🤛
Great video ken!
🍻🍻
I know these take time but as not-familiar-with-the-lore-of-Transformers person, these are super-helpful in figuring them out. Also I've been trying to leave this comment for several days now.
Glad to hear it!
Well, the "super helpful" part... the comment for several days... hopefully youtube isn't just randomly zapping comments for no reason.
@@ToyKennections Nah. Just me getting distracted -- I've been trying to watch the entire video before leaving comments. Which results in me forgetting to leave the comment (thank you attention span). The up side of that is I've watched this video 4 times so I can get to the end and leave the comment.
@@RetroToyPrincess lol
A totally mega episode
Cool I knew Transformers were made from takara designs but know almost nothing about the original lines that featured them. I of course know microman but that corner that produced transformers is unknown to me. Thanks Ken.
Always happy to help, Robert. 😎
I still function...
...wanna bet?
this is a great history video, you might say it was more then meets the eye (wink)
*wink*
the uncle version is so much better than usa megatron
i never understood that weird western-style sticker they put on the chrome
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
“Such heroic nonsense”
Nice knowin' ya, Ironhide.
Those legs and hip joints make me cringe
A pity today's overrated PC environment won't allow Megatron's toy to remain as a P-38 Walther as his alternative mode. The P-38 of course was inspired by the U. N. C. L. E. Special favored by Napoleon Solo, The Man From U. N. C. L. E..
How did they not get sued for copy right infringement they basically stole there exact idea 🫨
Through direct paid licensing and partnership
They licensed the toys from takara and had takara make them in different paint schemes to be transformers. I think they used 2 other toy companies down the line. I'm interested in who provided the packaging.
