it is a common practice. there are additional panel lines or surface detail on some figures so a FRANKENFIRE can be spotted by an expert who knows all the versions. Ideally you want all your parts to be from the same respective version.
Thank you for showing Jetfire. I definitely had this guy back in 85. My dad had got this for me for Christmas, and I played with it every day until it fell apart on me. Definitely my favorite when I was a kid.
Popping out that landing gear was the equivalent of sticking your hand in a gator's mouth. You had to be mindful and quick. This was probably the only toy I had, outside of that Operation game, that I was terrified to play with.
If you don't know what that landing gear will do to a thumb, you truly never really played with a Jetfire. That is the first thing I think of when Jetfire or macross Valkyrie
I just dug mine out of storage for the first time since about 1988. It still looks amazing. This was always one of my favorite Transformers. Thanks for this video.
My roommate almost got me one of these at a flea market. He picked it up instantly knowing I would want it because it was in amazing shape. The guy whose table it was rudely took it out of his hands and started trying to explain what it was as if my friend didn't know. He immediately tried to open the cockpit and dropped it on the ground and it broke. Then he seriously said "I guess you're probably not going to want that now huh?"
I got one of these complete, with original box and styrofoam insert, a couple months ago. Only has a couple of yellow spots. Another Grail accomplished. Excellent review.
I remember picking one up at a yard sale in maybe 89 or 90...very happy find for a couple bucks...kinda overshadowed, literally and figuratively, the new TFs I got for Christmas that year
Ah, the humble Super Valkyri-... Oh, wait... Yeah, this is a very good figure. And it's why the Matchbox Valkyrie couldn't transform. Also, a fun suggestion for going down the Jetfire/ Skyfire rabbit hole: Get yourself your drink of preference. Every time Harmony Gold is mentioned, take a drink.
You did a fantastic restoration, he looks pristine. I can both see why cartoon accuracy focused collectors might not like this guy, and why toy enthusiasts would love this toy. It's an amazing 80's piece of nostalgia, we don't have good fun stuff like this guy anymore. Amazing review PPR, great work!
I didn't have this guy as a kid, but I did end up with him right after high school, along with the Dinobots, Omega Supreme, and several other G1 figures that my cousin sold me for $30 just to get the box out of his way, sonce he had quit collecting toys and was getting rid of his stuff... My Jetfire is in slightly worse condition than yours, partly due to yellowing, looseness, and a crushed cockpit... unfortunately, mine IS missing all of his armor bits and the gun mount piece. (But I'm planning to eventually get those from Destron Designs...) As for the cockpit and possibly some other adjustments that may be needed, my buddy has 2 Jetfire figures and said that if I can do the work to fix his Jetfire up with parts from his extra, he's happy to let me use his extra for the parts I need to fix mine... and as far as I can tell, we don't require any of the same parts to fix BOTH figures, so that's going to be a nice repair opportunity. I'll probably also whiten both of our repaired Jetfire figures and get the Toyhax decals for both of us, just as a thank you to my friend's generosity. I always wanted this guy as a kid, but my parents couldn't get me everything, so I was just happy with what they could afford. When my cousin sold me that box of figures, it was like a Transformers dream come true, lol.😅 Flash forward to the Thrilling 30 Jetfire that my wife got me... I love that figure too, even though Hasbro made it feel like a cheap KO toy with all the hollowness and lightweight plastic, glossed over with metallic red vac metal jets, which I didn't care for at all... I did some work on mine and removed the red chrome crap, and repainted them... Flattened up 2 or 3 packs of lead fishing line weights, and used them to pack inside the gaps, then hot glued them to prevent shifting, and plugged them with the gap filler upgrades... Then applied the awesome Toyhax decals to put the final touches on the figure...! Bad boy doesn't feel dollar store KO cheap anymore, lol! He's got some legitimate heft to him now, and looks G1/G3 awesome. When the Commander class Jetfire came along, the upgraded Thrilling 30 Jetfire became my "Skyfire"...
Funny story, I wanted Thrust for my birthday because I loved the VTOL design, and even circled him in the catalog I gave my grandparents. Come my birthday....they had got me Jetfire instead, I was disappointed at first, until I started playing with him. My Autobots highly outnumbered my Decepticons.
Iconic is a great way to describe the Jetfire toy, I had a pal who had this bot in the 80s and I always wanted, but could never find him in stores. Also, I absolutely got into Robotech, and then naturally got into Macross. This figure was always on the "Want List". Fast Forward to the early 2010s, my local comic store had one of these sitting in the display case. It did not have the armor or hand cannon, bot barely yellowed, but it was in great condition joint wise. Did a little haggling and finally got a Jetfire. You are 100% correct about the armor pieces being difficult to find in good condition. The small tabs always seem to be broken everytime I spot them, or cost a "lotta dolla". I ended up getting a 3D printed armor set, but found the original Jetfire cannon in a random lot of toys on ebay. Cant wait to see how your Jetfire looks with the Toyhax stickers.

Thanks for the video Prime. I love the toy, both from my love of Transformers and Robotech. I actually have a very old print of Jetfire on glass that I won in the early 90s.

One of the best G1 toys. I had one that had the Macross marking on the wing. He was missing an arm and all the armor pieces but otherwise in really good shape. Stolen by a "friend" a few years ago. At least the guy was dumb enough to leave the tail fin assembly behind, so he probably didn't get too much for it. I hope whoever ended up with it is enjoying it.
Don't know if you knew but those with the Macross decals on the wing were numbered and are the most expensive ones. I saw one about a year ago complete in its box in prestige condition for $6,000 on ebay.
@@ERICK4431 Yeah I'm sadly aware of the cost of the early release Jetfire. I take comfort in the knowledge that this guy was an idiot. He once shoved a price guide in my face to "prove" that the Claremont/Lee X-Men #1 was worth thousands. He probably got ripped off by a "friend" of his rather than pawn it on eBay.
