Excuse me Rod but I have this dejavú feeling. Wasn´t this video uploaded before?? Anyways Great Vid!! Jetfire is many people´s fave
me too
He’s been reuploading videos with minor updates while his family moves.
I see
This should tell you everything. ruclips.net/video/NBxDJCQ_es4/видео.html
Now it makes sense!!
Shockwave- the terrifying alien blaster
Startscream- the sinister jet
Astrotrain- the colossal space shuttle
Reflector- the camera
Cameras are scary, some people hate getting their picture taken.
Starscream not startscream ( no offense )
Invasion of privacy is no joke! And knowing is half the battle!
Thundercracker: cousin of the sinister jet
Reflector would be more terrifying now with the whole surveillance thing going on.
The gentle giant scientiest skyfire and the more tradionally heroic jetfire. Could easily be two seperate characters. It would be intresting to see a human made mech suit jetfire as a reference to his macross orgin.
Ditto!
Or two brothers
I really wish Skyfire had been used more, he was one of my favorite transformers
I always think Jetfire as a warrior while Skyfire the scientist.
I like it as Jetfire, I grew up with that name and I'm sticking to it.
I don't care what people call him: Skyfire or Jetfire, names make no difference to me. He is my personal, definitive favourite Autobot, not only for being the first Autobot who could transform into a jet (albeit not the first Autobot to fly), but for his fascinating yet problematic history. Nowadays, despite not being as popular as Optimus Prime, Megatron, or Shockwave, he is at least safe from oblivion.
he's called jetfire almost everywhere, but the name skyfire's stuck with me forever.
Same here. I much prefer Skyfire over Jetfire.
I am 11 years old and watched g one and called him sky fire and I love it
Jetfire sounds more catchy tho
Same here
Cheers!
It is Skyfire from the 80"s. Jetfire is the valkyrie mode from battroid in macross,
Cheers!
OMG this drove me crazy as a kid! I was the one kid in my group of friends who was into Japanese animation and toys. So I had a Robotech Veritech 1 fighter from bandai. So when I saw the skyfire episode I was like wait a minute. Then I was like wait was it Jetfire? I could have sworn I heard Jetfire. I dont know if the Jetfire voiced episodes aired (I could have sworn I seen them). Only because when I dragged my friends to watch it (at this point the reruns) they definitely said skyfire and I was confused. At the time I thought it was a robotech / transformers crossover.
I never knew of all the changes and legal shennanigans they had to go through. Good stuff!
Too bad Starscream became too power hungry and blind to his friend's inner plight.
Now that I have both the Takara T30 Jetfire and the Siege version, I've decided to make them two separate characters in my personal collection continuity. T30 is Jetfire, brash, egotistical super-hero type and the Siege one is Skyfire, conscientious scientist. As Emgo316 says, "dare I say, why not?"
He will always be Skyfire to me. As a kid Skyfire was my absolute favorite character on the show. Great video
In G1, I know him as Skyfire. But, in any other show that has Jetfire in it, like Armada for example, then, that’s Jetfire. I also view them as separate characters.
I've always liked the name Skyfire more. It sounds cooler and it's also what I grew up with. When I first got into Transformers, Skyfire was one of my favorite characters, if not my top favorite character next to Optimus Prime.
Skyfire, Optimus Prime, Jazz, and Grimlock were my top favorite Autobots when I first got into Transformers in the era of season 1 of the show. On the Decepticons side it was Soundwave as my favorite.
“Jetfire” May have been created on Earth, but Skyfire was created on Cybertron.
I think Jetfire should be his Decepticon name, while Skyfire should be his Autobot name.
I like that as much as considering Jetfire and Skyfire as different characters.
I was thinking the same thing. He could have renamed himself when he joined the Autobots
I think it should be the other way round
Umbreon _ same skyfire sounds more threatening then jetfire
"Jetfire is my slave name!"
Whatever you want to call him, he was a bit of a holy grail figure for me until I got him a couple years ago - boy was I NOT disappointed, such a weighty figure, and beautifully designed. Great work Rodimus.
Thanks! He is always Skyfire to me!
He really deserved to be in more episodes. But at least most of the episodes he was in were some of my favorites.
Jetfire was the crowning glory of my Transformers collection. He was also my favorite after Prowl. Like the first gen Transformers, Jetfire had a realistic ascetic that was missing from later toys.
I always liked the name Skyfire, myself.
Skyfire has always been my all time favorite Autobot. When I was a kid I didn't know anything about the business discrepancies. I just loved every episode that had Skyfire in it. He was a bad ass.
I'd like the idea of two Autobot twins bearing the names Jetfire and Skyfire.
Cool, kinda like the 2007 Animated twins Jetfire & Jetstorm.
Or Jetfire can be a Decepticon and Skyfire can be an Autobot.
@@edr3158 No, just No. Absolutely not.
Marvel Jetfire: Offlined by a cosmically powered Starscream.
I see you've been watching HIS videos
I would honestly like to see two characters, one Jetfire and the other Skyfire.
But, I do prefer to call him Jetfire
I wasn't into Transformers, but I fell hard for Macross then turned Robotech when it first came out. I was in a store at a mall one day (I think '85 or '86) and saw Rick Hunter's VF-1J being sold as a Transformer! I about had a fit over that. I cannot remember if he was Skyfire or Jetfire then. None the less, I bought it because back then it was difficult to buy the real Macross stuff unless you knew someone in Japan or some comic shop happened to take an interest in it. I had models, books and RPG's for Robotech but no "toys" or action figures. The Autobot was my illusion of having a Robotech toy. I still have it in my collection though his colors have faded with age. Thank you for showing me how the Transformer came to be! I had wondered how they didn't get sued! Good vid for an interesting story!
This is amazing, Primal. I had never heard the original audio using the name "Jetfire" before till now.
Nice addition of the Dreamwave comics in this video!
I like the name JETFIRE. I really don't know anything about the character so this was a great help.
Walgreen's sells toys called Cyber Battalion and Jetfire is one of them. I don't really know him and never really cared, I bought him anyway because this series is hard to come by even having like 20 Walgreen's around my city. But I am glad I purchased him because I have always loved that look. And for $20 he is really well made considering those new ones with the action function are close to $20 and look like crap.
Jetfire has always had the most interesting design history to me, double because I am also a huge Macross/Robotech fan. It's funny to imagine that if Transformers kept it's G1 popularity going, and anime never caught on in the West, we may have gotten conversions from other transforming mech franchises, like Gundam, Ideon, etc.
This just reminded me how much I want the toy of Siege Jetfire.
I have called him Skyfire, I thought the origonal toy of him was and is my fav.
I like him either way but I’ve always have known him and will continue to call him Skyfire
If considered to be variations of the same character, then I prefer Skyfire. However, aside from flight motif and size, the Unicron Trilogy was nothing like the original in personality or history. The Animated version was even further distant from the G1 character. I prefer Skyfire, but these other versions I have no problem referring to as Jetfire.
Same here. Skyfire is the G1 cartoon character while the rest have been Jetfire.
He will always be Skyfire to me.
The Jetfire - Skyfire - Robotech thing confused me back then. I didn't know what the heck was going on (nor did any of my friends) but I suspected some sort of competition/ legal issues. Good job researching all this. I didn't know it was that big of a complicated mess
Recently got WFC-S28 Jetfire, so this was a great watch. These retrospectives are well done, it's amusing to hear about the industry stuff and see how the characters evolved.
I like to think of Jetfire and Skyfire as 2 different characters.
We don’t talk about the “Jetfire” in the Bayverse at my house. That was the moment I left the Bayverse behind forever. Horrible bit of pissing on a legacy. I don’t consider Bays robot movies to be Transformers movies
That said, Jetfire/Skyfire was always one of my favorites. I get a little more excited every time I see him in something. Probably why Bay’s distortion hit me so hard. Had the toy for years until the financial crisis in 2008 forced me to sell practically everything.
I’ve always thought of them as “twins”. One the scientist and one the warrior, like how some identical twins show very different personalities, one outgoing or gregarious and one more reserved or quiet. I always play as him in War for Cybertron when taking down Trypticon.
Right?? He's 1 of my faves too! I was also equally disappointed w/ Bay's minor depictions of Arcee, Elita-1, Chromia, and Wheeljack ("Que") in the 2nd & 3rd films. I also never understood why Ultra Magnus was never included in any of the movies, esp. once the Wreckers were finally introduced! Would love to see live action versions of him, Elita, Windblade (I can just picture her and Drift totally going to town on some 'Cons w/ their samurai swords together lol), Knock Out, Sky Lynx, Omega Supreme, & Astrotrain! Someday, I hope! ;P
While I agree, Jetfire was badly mishandled in the Bayverse, I have to admit, I actually liked the idea of an elderly plane who uses his landing gear as a walker. I don’t know, I think it was just funny.
This was the dealbreaker for me too. I bailed on the series and never watched 3 or beyond. That and the fact that the main story line seemed to be a bout a human dude telling a girl he loved her.... in a movie about giant robots.
@@Randomcorpse - I didn’t mind Sam getting the bulk of the focus in the first movie, since it was a film about mankind meeting aliens for the first time mixed with a “a boy and his dog” type story. But once we got into Revenge of the Fallen, the focus should’ve have shifted to the Transformers. I mean, ffs, Sam’s roommate, who had no reason to be in the story to begin with, and Sam’s annoying ass parents got more screen time than classic characters like Arcee, Starscream, and Sideswipe. Hell, I think more screen time was given to the humping dogs than Arcee.🤦🏿♂️
I just found a picture of my Birthday party in 1984 or 1985 and there is a brand new Jetfire with all his battle armor on the table. My favorite g1 of all time. I even found a Macross variant last year almost new in the box.
I got 1 for christmas when I was a kid. I remember really liking the toy as a transformer, but being really confused about the animated version plus my 7ish year old head dealing with 2 conflicting realities about an autobot that used to be a decepticon lol
In conclusion: "Harmony Gold must be stopped...no matter the cost."
[Transformation Sound Effects]
Just got my hands on a complete G1 Jetfire at a comic book convention. 100$ but so worth it.
*Excellent historic breakdown of an iconic Transformer!*
Skyfire is a more catchy and befitting name. It sticks better to your brain!
I'm personally a fan of Robotech above all Transforming forms of Mecca.
Jetfire was the best name.
Skyfire could be a "brother" of Jetfire... if they decide to go that route.
Og g1 jetfire is the only jetfire ..skyfire is straight up a different character. Jet fire sits proudly on my masterpiece shelf and fits in perfect
Me: his name is sky fire!!!
My brother: no he is jet fire!!!
My mom: wait, so he isn’t starscream?
Meanwhile Hikaru/Rick is just like “that’s my jet you guys”
Felt compelled to fire this up after just purchasing the Siege Jetfire toy.
Same here lol
Same
The comics were just an alternate dimension to me. He was skyfire in the cartoon and that is what he will always be to me.
Maybe in the future Hasbro does something similar to Dreadwind & Darkwing combining into Dreadwing, but for the Autobots and the two bots are Skyfire & Jetstorm that combine into Jetfire. Just an idea but it sounds cool right
That does sound cool!
tfwiki.net/wiki/Safeguard_(Animated)
^ jetfire & jetstorm combined to make Safegaurd in the Transformers animated series
@@valykisim sorry but we speak none of that show
I would rather make Jetfire, Skyfire, Jetstorm and Skyblast seperate characters, but then again I also would like to have Darkwing, Dreadwind AND Dreadwing as seperate individuals. Same for Shockwave and Shockblast.
I only had the original episode where he was named Jetfire. I didn't even realize they had a legal battle and name change to contend with. Thanks for this episode ^_^
The best thing about watching rodimus Prime videos is that you can watch them again when your children get older and then appreciate them all over again we just watched this one and we're watching the female Autobot one now
I use to own the original Jetfire toy back in the day, and it had the original Robotech markings!!!!
You had the Matsushiro Jetfire.
Had that one to. Only a few came out. My little brother had one. They had different markings.
when I was a kid, I had Jetfire. I would pretend that Skyfire and Jetfire where two different characters.I don't remember exactly if I pretended that they were bros or if they just happened to look alike. Because of color similarities, I would sometimes pretend that a Star Wars X-wing fighter was Skyfire and use a different toy for his robot mod.
And then we will get Siege Jetfire, who stands at a whopping 11 inches tall and turns into the most animation accurate shuttle version of him ever seen. I may have to sell my "Thrilling 30" version now...
Ahhh Harmony Gold. Their own worst enemy
ive always viewed skyfire and jetfire as different characters, both in attitude and appearance.
Not to me
I just preordered my Siege Skyfire. I can't wait.
Jetfire isn't as good of a name but I'll actually use it sometimes...good luck trying to get me to ever call Slag "Slug" or "Snarl"(I hate when they give one character a different character's name like that).
That Skyfire Skystriker looks boss. I would love to have one. GI Joe and Transformers is like chocolate and peanut butter. Yum.
Skyfire is one of my favorite characters in the original cartoon. Sadly, due to legal reasons that caused him not to be in the latter half of 1985, in my headcanon, he died in 1985. I wish an episode could be made where S2 characters are properly introduced with a good story that fits in with Desertion of the Dinobots episode. In that episode, we could see Skyfire go out in a blaze of glory as I would hate that a living Skyfire, is usurped by Powerglide.
I would also like to know what happened to the seeker jets after Skyfire shot one or two down in the 'Ultimate Doom part 3'.
As a little kid when I owned the toy of Jetfire, I was so confused as to why he had a face on the cartoon while he had a Robotech Grill on my toy. So it's really phenomenal that you took the time to thoroughly go over the history, detailing the history of trademark laws with Shockwave and Skyfire / Jetfire... Extremely, highly, and exhaustively informative... Excellent!
That's awesome to know that there is a Thrilling 30 Jetfire out there somewhere as I just bought a near mint Thrilling 30 Starscream at this past weekends Boston Comic-Con xD I will be on the hunt now.
I remember him as jetfire but it's just a name. "What's in a name? If a rose be by another would smell just as sweet?" I hope I remembered that right...I didn't memorize the entire Juliet monologue for nothing!
Awesome vid. Really enjoyed it. You did some serous homework Jetfire
Thank you sooooooo much for this vid! He was the only transformer I owned as a poor kid in the projects....
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hope for you the best! Till All Are One!
Imagine how confused I was when I watched some random anime called macross frontier that had a similar looking mechs to my childhood transformers toy...
This was one of my favorite toys as a child and one of my favorite characters from the cartoon. It’s great to see a video about him. Thanks so much for all that you do. We appreciate it. Until the day, till all are 1.
Been looking forward to this one...
I was born in 1980.. 1st Gen is my childhood. My favorite toy was jetfire.. he was the one i RP'd while playing with friends.
He will always be jetfire to me.
I like to look at Jetfire and Skyfire as separate characters personally. Skyfire being the scientist and former friend of Starscream. Jetfire being the Air Guardian.
This looks so much better!
Fire in the Skies is one of the best arcs in the TV series
I Love Both Skyfire And Jetfire They Are The Same Driffeant Characters I Love Them.
It was really cool to hear the original va. Even though he wasn't in the show much skyfire really stood out to me among the season 1 and 2 g1 cast. I hope we see a new figure of him in whatever line is next.
Wait i have that Venom toy, i NEVER knew his name. He shares the name with mine fav Marvel character, who knew
Couple months later and we come to new york toy fair where hasbro introduces a commander class jetfire that looks just like the cartoon!!!!! And he has an armor piece that makes him look like the toy!!!!! Gotta love hasbro. Skyfire was one of my favorite characters in the g1 toon.
Well this is a redo of an older video believe it or not. Skyfire was awesome indeed.
Too me he will always be Skyfire..where did you find the old audio with his original name?
It was uncovered last year by Transformers @ The Moon.
With the exception of the streaming licenses for Robotech, for the last two decades Harmony Gold's business strategy has revolved around filing lawsuits with anyone and everyone they think they can bully into settling.
My favourite birthday ever was when my parents gave me Jetfire and Megatron. I was the happiest 6 year old ever.
Nice vid, I believe Jetfire and skyfire are two different people. Skyfire is a scientist that was once friends with starscream while Jetfire is a cocky piolt and a respect autobot soldier.
Imagine optimus going into battle
Optimus: oh great I'm wearing a dead decepticon
Simply a great history lesson in the world of the Transformers, thank you Rodimus!
I always thought of them as separate when I was a kid then saw they were actually one in the same since there are quite a few toys that didn't look like their cartoon counterparts rather it was a different type of face or minor tweak to a totally different look like this one. At least the toy only made me say soooo why does this look like something out of Robotech instead of outright WTF when I saw the toys for Ironhide and Racthet after seeing them in the cartoon lol. I think I remember there was a mini comic or something I read a couple years ago and it had him as leader of the Autobots instead of Optimus Prime showing him in command on the ark as they are chased by the Decepticons in the first scenes from the cartoon rewritten. And I think it had him in his Robotech look in the mini comic. Skyfire was my first favorite character of the cartoon a shame they couldn't use him much. Was glad to see him get his do even though the name went back to Jetfire in the Unicron Trilogy and Animated though. Best thing is like with Ratchet and Ironhide seeing him finally get a G1 cartoon version of him released in toy form. Rather Skyfire or Jetfire he is always in my top list of Autobots,
Great feature and trip down memory lane as a kid from the 80s who definitely noticed these inconsistencies when they occurred. Fans toys version is still one of my favorite figures of my modern collection
The owners of Robotech are just sore their product is basically a has been.
I LOVE Robotech as well!
@@alexkx8599 I do as well.
I wish it was possible for the franchise to move forward but considering the alarming amount of woke nowadays... Do we really want to?
@@Fenris77 What p.c. problem is there for Robotech?
Thank you for this video. FINALLY. I'm especially thankful about you showing the DORUBAK toys. I always wondered if there were more of these, since Macross valkyries came in different szes, and model types. I once saw a plastic, almost 6" version of a VF-1J. I always hoped they did a Master Piece model of RoadBuster(Calibur)!
Nice work i all ways think of them as different characters but i don't have a lot of info on this. thinks for making this one i hope you have made more like it.
Decided to revisit this after the whole macross harmony gold settlement that happened recently.
And its nice to see that bandai is releasing a vf1 toy in jetfires colors.
Hopefully we can get more merch and desgins of jetfire blended with the macross universe vf-1
LOVE IT LOVE IT THIS IS GOING IN MY TRANSFORMERS PLAY LIST.😅
For G1, I love Skyfire- Jetfire can be his name in other continuties, but for the recent WFC:S and that WFC game? They should've named him Skyfire.
I will always find an excuse to
Love this character as a transformer vs. A Robotech character
Glad to know they did try looking back episode 1 g1 seekers models but apparently there’s no time and they use his jet form 😮
I could call him by either name !!! The War from Cybertron figure is Awesome !! I recommend that everyon get it for your TF collection !!
I was born after 1984 and I grow up watching Skyfire so I agreed with you on calling him Skyfire dude and great 👍 video by the way
I have always seen them as different characters, and considering how most of the others from different series that bare the name are so unsimilar to each other I never felt a connection between them.
As for what name I like more, honestly I like Skyfire more, especially for the G1 (animated) version.
Also there was one other figure I have always thought was based on Jetfire/Skyfire and that would be RID (2001) Storm Jet, he is a redeco of the Beast Machines Vehicon Jetstorm, but using the colors of Jetfire, I have the figure so that is why it came to mind.
This was the first example to 9 year old me that companies get so worked up over property rights, completely missing the point of how children play with toys.
Because guess what? My Star Wars figures fought alongside my GI Joe and Robotix figures in both franchises' vehicles and play-sets. Go-Bots and any other robot toy (transforming or not) filled out the ranks of my Transformers. Sometimes they all fought my He-Man figures, and anyone else, in epic living room scale battles that lasted an entire rainy Saturday.
Guess what else? At no time did I care what company made any of those toys (half the time, I probably didn't even know who made what).
Protecting your copyright is one thing, but brand loyalty does not really exist for children. No child was saying "I'm only buying Diaclone or Bendai or Hasbro or whoever!" We bought the toys that were cool. It would've blown our young minds to see the kind of brand crossover that toy execs so feared. I wish they'd figure that out and not get all bent out of shape they way they did with Jet/Skyfire.
Not entirely related to the video, but I love it that the courts have had enough of Harmony Gold's bullshit. Battletech has had the same legal problems with them because a lot of the mechs are based on animation models used in Macross.
In relation to Skyfire, he's a pretty cool guy, I always liked "gentle giant" characters.
even though this video is a redo, I honestly notice a few more stuff being added (which is obviously the point of this remake I know) and the quality of the new mic is great and this sorta feels longer compared to the last one? I could be wrong. spectacular work as always RodimusPrimal!
Thanks. It is longer. I added a lot more to the video to make it more complete.
RodimusPrimal
Thank you for improving on an already good video.
I think of skyfire as the scientist and Jetfire as the warrior
Skyfire always reminds me of Macross' Batroid Valkyrie. Thanx for this video. 👦
I know him as skyfire from the earlier days cartoon
