    When I bought mine in the 80's, I took apart all of my G1 launchers and stretched out the springs. They still shot across the room when I showed them to my son.

    I saved up for almost an entire year to buy Metroplex when it first came out doing odd jobs for my neighbors to get the money for it, and I still have him.

    Speaking of Scramble City, the OVA was released five months before the movie hit theaters, meaning the Japanese were the first to know Metroplex. The OVA, unfortunately, was never fully released to the US due to Toei, who refused to give them the audio. Metrodome and Madman bypassed it by releasing it in lower quality with burnt-in English subs. In the OVA, Metroplex looks just like the toy.

      @Mr. Al It's not that they're xenophobic, they're more like notoriously difficult to work with. It's not just Transformers: if it wasn't for Viz Media, Sailor Moon would have remained beyond US's reach. Funimation is the ONLY foreign distributor Toei gets along with. The OVA does end on a cliffhanger that wasn't resolved until the Legends manga. The same can be said for the Zone OVA.

    • @twistedgaming9185
      @twistedgaming9185 5 лет назад +1

      @Mr. Al I'm sure they've loosened a bit. They even localized World Trigger with Ocean Productions. As for those OVAs... the Unicron Singularity swallowed them.

    I was going to make a comment about you not showing the missile firing feature and the combiner team compatibility, but you added them on later in the video, so kudos on a fairly complete review! In the early 2000's when I was still collecting G1, the combiner compatibility is what drew me to Metroplex and Trypticon, since I was all about the combiners back in the day (and really Combiner Wars is what drew me back in again, since I had sold off most of my collection in the interim years), Then of course I needed smaller bots to go with the citybots, and that led to me starting to collect the WST line and that was a whole nother rabbit hole. I had started on Micromasters too but I seem to remember eBay's search algorithm either had an issue looking up "micromaster/s" or nobody was selling them then, because the only stuff I ever found was a knockoff or weird-colored version of the helicopter micromaster base (which I still have). And I remember being disappointed that the micromaster bases and Metroplx didn't really have any interactivity. That was around the time they had reissued Star Convoy, too, so of course I had picked one of those up for stupid cheap (compared to the original).
    And thanks for reminding me I need to get my reprolabels put on my Titan Metroplex... Have had them sitting in queue for at least two if not three years now (got them the first time they did the 50% off sale for Black Friday). And I need to finish Trypticon too.... poor boy needs his shiny teeth :D Then, on to Omega Supreme....

      That's what happens when you film a Review out of sequence...you forget things. I was shooting Metroplex between two others.
      The Micromasters work so much better with him and I agree with you about the bases.
      Unfortunately Plex and the MMs were created two years apart.
      I still don't think I've finished applying all of Trypticon's...I stopped on all those tiny yellow circles.

    Fantastic review PP, smart move getting the extra guns to be able to display Metro and Sixgun (or seven gun as you quite rightly say). I have the Toyhax upgrades on my Metroplex, as a result I enjoyed giving Metro & Scamper their moment in the sun in my latest video. I also have the Trypticon set too, they really bring lil purple 'ol Full Tilt to life.

    This guy is looking great with those Toyhax decals. Also, glad to see it's the Encore reissue, because I've heard they fixed the waist flaw that plagued many Metroplexes back in the day which left them with a broken waist.
    But yeah, I like the focus on the Toyhax labels, because they really make one heck of a difference.
    Scamper and Slammer appeared more than Six-Gun. Slammer and Scamper appeared in The Ultimate Weapon and Scamper makes a brief solo appearance in Carnage in C-Minor.

    Awesome review, brother! I've had this set for a little over a year, but haven't tried to start with it yet, because I have to invest some time into the removal of the original decals, and haven't had the opportunity to dedicate the time needed for that, so far. I managed to get my PMOP done at least though!
    You definitely did an excellent job with yours, so congrats on a job well done! And well DONE, Toyhax, as well! Thanks to those guys for producing such a fantastic set to upgrade some awesome figures/characters, and give them more depth & personality. I was already looking forward to FINALLY getting mine all done up, when I ordered the sets, but now I'm even MORE psyched to see mine finished up, after THIS review!
    I was fortunate enough to get a GREAT deal on a box of Transformers several years ago, which netted me the rest of the Dinobots I was missing, though a tad bit loose, along with a complete G1 Omega Supreme, AND a complete Metroplex (WITH original rubber wheels, not 2nd run plastic ones), amongst several other deluxe bots, for the low low price of...$20!
    That re-issue does look pretty awesome, btw! I'd like to get my hands on a re-issue Omega Supreme and Skylynx, myself. I'd even be willing to trade my original Omega towards it, which still in pretty good condition too...
    ALSO, having seen this video, I'll need to track down a couple more SIXGUN legs for Metroplex to have his guns in bot mode. Fortunately, I think I already have a set if his gun arms, which should be in with that custom "Sixgun" I fixed up for my G3 Metroplex, before the SIEGE Sixgun came out last year...🤔 so, that'll be cool!

    Awesome review....since I have been a kid I have always wanted Metroplex. My friend had him, and I did get a chance to play with him once. I have the Titan Class figure, but I still would love to get the G1 version one day.

  • @windsweeper8002
    @windsweeper8002 4 года назад

    Great review. Those Toyhax stickers really do enhance the figures. If you want to upgrade his hands, Combiner Wars hands fit perfectly in his wrist sockets.
    My brother got Metroplex for Christmas in 1987. I had to buy the core robot a few years ago because the old one broke at the waist. I still had most of the accessories.
    I knew 3 other people who had him when we were kids and thry all broke at the waist.
    As long as I've had Metroplex, over 3 decades, I always thought that laser you gave Six-Gun belonged to Scamper.
    I never knew you could attach it to Six-Gun. Given he wasn't an impressive toy, he didn't get much attention.
    Great review as always.

    Amazing video. I used to have the attitude where I only wanted to get original G1 bots as I rebuild my collection. But after discovering the Takara Encore re-issues, I have no problem using Encore G1s to fill gaps in my collection, they're excellent!

    So probably when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, I told one of my teachers (probaby speech) that I had a dream that I had Metroplex and was super happy and that he was a 2 foot tall toy. Sadly he isn't a 2 foot tall toy, but I did get Fortress Maximus a few years later. I've had a few Metroplexes, my current one I've had for 25 or so years, is now missing his head. I wish the waist wasn't so weak. I spent many nights in the garage as a kid trying to redo his broken waste. Usualy a bolt, washers and a nut, but they never held up. I still love saying his name.

    Excellent review Jason, this is one I have been hoping you'd cover eventually and you didn't disappoint.
    I got G1 Metroplex as a kid for Christmas, sadly like you pointed out, the waist on mine did snap, but not until I was a adult and I was transforming him to show my nephew. I did do a "fix" on him with a metal pin, but that got a bit loose over time so just glued the torso on. He could never become city mode again, but oh well. In the last few months I did track down a replacement (a 2008 Takara encore like yours) without accessories for next to nothing (it was also missing a couple of tires which you don't see form the front, but the stickers were in excellent condition_, but I still had all of the accessories form the original kept safely along with other odds and ends from broken figures I slowly replace.
    I won't ever put the replacement in city mode either as the waist ratchet is super tight on the figure and don't want to risk breaking this one too lol!
    These days Metroplex is back on display in the living room where he belongs. One day I hope to purchase the Generations one, but he is always outside my price range, also not sure if I have the room for him either lol!

    • @PatriotPrimeReviews
      @PatriotPrimeReviews  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks, I'll admit that I'm always nervous transforming this guy.
      I never had a G1 one back in my day but I had friends who did and both waists snapped.

    • @brainspider
      @brainspider 5 лет назад

      You were lucky with your G1 Plex, a lot of them did seem to break, but at least my G1 Mirage never had his waist snap like many others did, mine just developed weak thighs that won't stay extended when I stand him up.

  • @jpatt1000

    The original G1 Slammer does have a post on the back of the tank as it sticks into the left arm just as yours does. I've never understood why both upper towers didn't retract into the arms and they only had the right one do so. I've gotten a few Toyhax sets to restore G1 figures I never had but have recently purchased. I would like to put the stickers on my original ones to freshen them up but the repros have a pebbly texture to the printing that the original stickers did not. Do you think this was intentional by Toyhax so a buyer can tell and original from theirs? (Not that I'm ever selling mine so with that in mind should I not worry about it and just apply them and have everything shiny on my shelf? )
