First Aid is having doubts after Swindle steals Metroplex's transformation cog for Galvatron. But of course, First Aid will soon learn how much his friends really need him when Trypticon threatens to crush Metroplex, who is unable to transform without his transformation cog. But will the Autobots be able to get Metroplex's transformation cog back from the Decepticons?

Season 3 was definitely very sci-fi and had a lot of episodes based around space and other planets etc so this episode was a nice throwback to the earlier Earth centric seasons and episodes.
Part of that made season 3 suck. Not only the characters were largely replaced by new ones, but even the area they are in is compltely different

One of the advantages of being autobot is you can be a techie, medic, mechanic, materials specialist, and inventor if you do not like combat. Decepticons only like fighting and destroying. This means less job opportunities for people. (they just enslave people that they need to do the tasks they can't or won't do haha)

@@slickchick5811 Actually starscream was NOT stereotyped. During the war he used his science to help the decepticon cause. He built the combaticons. It's just that in the toon majority of the time he was playing his role as air warrior. Being the fastest jet and intelligent makes him appear weak because in comparison to megatron he is nothing. Like comparing a nerd who did some karate for self defence reasons after being bullied to a seasoned war veteren who has killed dozens of people, done the most dangerous missions, gained medals and come out alive where others died. Bottom line the decepticons destroy and autobots use thier energy defending. The decepticons are called destrons in the japanese cartoon which to me is a better description of what they are. In many ways the autobots are like heroic knights with principles and the decepticons are viking raiders and pirates. (fear and intimidation is how the leader gets respect)

It's... ironic, given later stories (such as 2005-IDW-G1) showing Megatron launching his movement as a revolt against "Functionism", or imposing a caste system based on altmode. Apparently at one point he wanted the freedom to choose as well, before the drive to exert his own will on the planet swallowed him up....

I remember in the 1980s, I woke up and turned on the TV, and I had already missed several minutes of this episode. I never got to see the beginning of it until I owned Season 3 on DVD. Once I read the episode's description on my DVD set, I knew exactly what it was. Decades after first wanting to see the beginning, I finally did, and it was worth every single day that I waited. B-)
I know how you feel. I have the Transformers Season 2 DVD sets Season 3 DVD sets as well, and these days they're better to watch than the things they show on tv now.
Nice to read others have the dvd series as well. Somewhere in 2005 or 2006 I bought season three and four, because seasons 1 and 2 were broadcasted on tv in the 80s/90s while seasons 3, 4 and headmasters weren't.

The one thing I like about SilverBolt is seeing him finally getting over his fear of heights.
Optimus figured that by making him Aerialbot leader, that responsibility would force him to push aside his fear so he won't look weak in front of his troops. If Optimus was still around at this time, he'd have done something similar with First Aid.

It's a weird character quirk to give a guy who transforms into a jet and leads a bunch of jets, one more reckless than the other. Like, aside from that, he's written as someone you don't mess with for fun.
Well, given his duties in the episode 'Five Faces of Darkness', he would have got rid of his fear of heights well before then.
@@phillipwattsjr.4714 Actually, in the very final episode 'Rebirth Part 3', First Aid did finally get rid of his self doubt, when the Protectobots and Ultra Magnus trapped Galvatron and very nearly finished him off. But the Horrorcons spoiled the show!

Temporarily…by the time the next episode starts he’s forgotten it and has to learn it all over again. He seemed like he was finally at peace with himself at the end of “The Burden Hardest to Bear,” but by “The Return of Optimus Prime” he was back to his old patterns. Presumably each writer was working from a series bible that said Rodimus is self-doubting, and didn’t know what the other writers were doing.
Gotta love that Galvatron was yelling at the unconscious Stunticons for getting beaten by the 2 strongest Autobots lol
Actually Metroplex is larger and certainly more powerful and either Ultra Magnus or Rodimus Prime. Grimlock actually defeated Optimus Prime in "War Of the Dinobots."

Rodimus and first aid were able to do some counseling within themselves. During their chaotic times. I like how this episode teaches a person to not give in to their worries and do what they think is right. Rodimus and first aid just proved that in this episode. Besides I've seen better ultimate weapons on g.i.joe.

Best episode of S03 and one of the best overall. There are many little layers of character that often get overlooked. I wish they did more like this.
Personally also like nightmare planet and call of the primitives. Still to watch all of season 3 and the two episodes from season 4 lol

One of the best animated episodes in the series, especially in the Metroplex v Trypticon fight. I always appreciated how they at least *tried* to give Rodimus a character arc, and I actually think it'd have been better for him to stay in command of the Autobots even after Optimus returned, and have Optimus assume an advisory/mentor role for him.

One of the Best G1 Episodes ever!
Now able to see this again since the late 1990s (1999, from its redubbed reruns) made me realized some points:
- Human guns are the same blasters as the TFs. There's even a "color coding." Guess having the "yellow blasters" are the good guys. Or either/both Autobots and Decepticons lended their technology at some point (but without an episode to show).
- A doubting Rodimus Prime could serve as a teaser (or in today's term: Easter egg) of the returning Optimus. Unlike Rodimus, Optimus don't need a solid lieutenant in Ultra Magnus (at least in Seasons 1 and 2) although he has Iron Hide.
- Intentional or not, it solidifies First Aid as the chief Autobot mechanic, filling the significant void left by Ratchet and Wheeljack. First Aid serves as cushion in missing the two (personally).
- Protectobots and Aerialbots are well deployed through S3.
R.I.P., Jack Angel (the voice of Ultra Magnus). :(

I'd say Swindle is Swindle. Remember the episode when he sold his fellow Combitcons as spare parts? Good for us that Megatron convinced him to repair them again.

It's lucky that this was one of the few times Galvatron had any mercy. That or he didn't want to lose Bruticus just to exterminate Swindle, especially since he almost lost Bruticus before in "B.O.T." He also saw Bruticus as a valuable asset in the past.

He is saying good thing he wasn't a leg so Defensor could form. (Even though limbs on 86 combiners are interchangeable ... just not in the show).

I don't know if you have seen "The Basics" series, all about various Transformers. I learned from there Defensor and many of the five-person team combiners were "Scramble Combiners" so any of the four who didn't make up the core could fill any role. But I think to avoid errors they kept each bot to an assigned spot, so you wouldn't have them jumping from place to place between scene cuts.

Can't believe this was Generation 2'd to death. This and "Starscream's Ghost".I didn't see these episodes as a little kid in the '90s. Also, I wish most of Season 3 had this kind of animation. Any episode AKOM for this and the rebirth miniseries was just hard to look at.
The first season will always be my favorite.
Trypticon killed a lot of people in those ships if you think about it.
Plus he definitely killed those cops despite the following scene making it seem they got away. And on his various rampages this episode.

Fun fact: combiners can switch their limbs(demonstrated on scramble city). Having one of the Arialbots substitute as Defensor's left arm is possible.

Love how they change Rodimus and Magnus' colors to bluff their way into Trypticon, but they still have their Autobot symbols right there in the open. But Vortex doesn't notice.
At 12:49, you've got to feel for Spike. He had to watch in horror as his terrified son falls out of Rodimus (who's in vehicle mode) not being able to save him.

@@LOBOLAMUARTE season 3 takes place in 2006. So 10 years later. This is more than 1/2 the season in so I’d say 10-12 years older than the movie.
One of Galvatron's dumbest plan as the Decepticon's leader.
Megatron will never resort to bluffing. At least he made Cybertron pulled to earth's orbit and framed Autobots to get exiled from earth.
Megatron thought out his plans strategically before he acted on them whereas Galvatron is Gung ho bat shit crazy & beat his own troops more than the Autobots.
You can blame the plasma bath for that. I guess they couldn't have Galvatron be powerful *and* have his mental faculties.

One of my favourite Season 3 episodes.
Transformers Generation 1: Season 3, 'The Ultimate Weapon' This is one of the better Transformers G1: episodes that involved the character of Rodimus Prime. The animation was done by Toei Animation is top notched and the story in this G1 episode is really well written. I really like this episode, the 'Ultimate Weapon'. Voice Actor: Richard "Dick" Gautier is the voice for the Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime character for Most of the Transfomers Generation 1: Season 3 Cartoon.
Swindle has the best moment in this episode. Too bad, that is all he ever does until The Return of Optimus Prime.
Yeah, his next major role was in 'Rebirth part 3', where he transports the downed Aeriabots to Galvatron's rocket engine.
Rodimus and Magnus, though outnumbered, flattened all of Stunticons twice this episode (9:41, 15:10)

But the stunticons always outrun Optimus and some original autobot characters. Thus, the birth of the aerialbots to counter measure the decepticon cars..
Stunticons could easily form into Menasor..they were terribly nerfed..though not as bad as the Constructicons lol
@77gregorymoey Nah. This simply shows that Rodimus and Ultra Magnus are stronger together than Optimus was. If they were in a s1 or s2 episode, they would similarly defeat Devastator. Essentially, after the war, the new autobot leaders got a buff from the matrix. Galvatron was never the threat to Rodimus like Megatron was vs Optimus. Rodimus and Ultra Magnus were both stronger than Optimus. Together, they wreck combiners.

As all you know that Galvatron hates liars, double dealers, backstabbers, cheaters, double crossers, usurpers, bribes and swindlers just like Swindle whose making a bargain over Metroplex's transforming cog in this episode. His so called ultimate weapon is nothing more than a TV remote which is a reference from Alan Moore's graphic novel Watchmen. And finally, Octane has seen rejoining the Decepticon ranks once more.
You'd think Swindle would learn.
Actually this episode immediately preceded Thief In The Night. Octane hadn't yet absconded with Trypticon. That was then followed by Starscream's Ghost.
Man just watching that scene where Trypticon grabbed that train and picked it up to eye level or in the case of the Transformers optic level and him fighting the AerialBots and blasting AirRaid with his fire breath is so much like something right out of Godzilla in this case The Return of Godzilla.

(Revenge of the Fallen) some humans don’t agree with the alliance with the Autobots, & think it would be safe if they leave Earth, so the Decepticons can leave too.
(Dark of the Moon) The Decepticons had been using human collaborators to cover up the Ark on the moon, while being spared if they help to transwarp Cybertron to Earth, while their leader try to kill Sam & his friends, as well take Carly from him, forcing Sam to kill the guy.
(Age of Extinction) The CIA work with a Bounty Hunter to hunt down all Transformers that survived Chicago, while sending their parts to a tech company, just to keep Earth safe from another War where innocent people died, which force Optimus Prime to kill the one responsible for the deaths of his love ones.
(The Last Knight) humans had about had it with Autobots & Decepticons fighting to the death, making them to go all around the world, hunting or arresting them, until they help the Decepticons to find the Staff, which puts their planet at risk, giving them the rights to redeem themselves by helping the Autobots to save Earth/Unicron.

One of if not the best episode in season 3 all around.
it's like the theme of this episode is "coping with situations with one arm". Defensor had to cope with one arm (without First Aid)... and then both Metroplex and Trypticon had to battle each other with one arm.
I'm wondering why would the Decepticons contact humans to help repair Trypticon. And 2, given it's THE DECEPTICONS why would they even come. LOL @ 15:11 Galvatron berating his troops for the loss - even though HE WAS THERE HIMSELF.
They could be in league with criminal gangs who'd do it for stuff the Decepticons steal.
If there were humans working for the Decepticons itt would've probably been a situation where they were captured and used as slaves. Galvatron did that a couple of times in the first 2 seasons back when he was Megatron. I also find it really weird that Vortex immediately knew something was up where as Cyclonus was completely oblivious.
@@MisUnderstood_Rose Vortex was aware cus he could "smell" Magnus and Rodimus. Inside of Tripticon, no Magnus or Rodimus to detect, Thus Cyclonus was unable to sense the Autobots among Spike and Daniel.. That's my reasoning.

I guess it could also be possible that Vortex recognized that the vehicles were Ultra Magnus and Rodimus when he saw them considerimg they are basically the 2 most important Autobots at this point and have distinct colors which would make them noticeable not to Mention they were probably with Spike and Daniel to distract the other Decepticon lookouts when they got caught.

This episode has great looking animation because Acom had nothing tp do with it. Plus it is nice to see Galvatron thinking rationally for change. Maybe the Torkulons DID cure him!

Why does Galvatron have such a funny voice here? In the movie, his voice was low, dak, and husky. Here it is higher pitched
The first few episodes of Season 3 were actually completed before the movie although they first aired to the public after the movie's release. So Frank Welker invented his own voice without any imitating of Leonard Nimoy.

The Matrix chose Hotrod/ Rodimus Prime, it chose wisely, Rodimus regained Cybertron, held galactic peace conferences on, Cybertron protected Cybertron from Galvatron and there creators, helped Melissa Morgan Earth space command protect earth as well, he deserves to vent!. Optimus Prime ever have to worry about was Megatron building space Bridges to steal Earth resources? Ultra Magnus had his chance to be leader? He didn't understand the essence of The Matrix? And it almost got him killed? Rodimus is very cool character because you get to see him fall and rise, a character I think most of all of us can relate to? Like Kup told Melissa in the hardest burden to bear, Kup explains to Melissa that Optimus had to learn and to respect his obligations and now it's Rodimus turn?
Magnus failed he got blown up.first day in the job he couldn't make a good decision

One of my favourite episodes from season 3 which saw Rodimus Prime finally step out of the shadows to become a great Autobot leader in his own right by showing no fear and displaying calm confidence when coming face to face to with Galvatron. He would still show doubts and question his own ability from time to time but this breakthrough moment would mark the beginning of Rodimus slowly letting go of the weight of the Optimus Prime legacy and start to carve out his own one

Kids who watched Optimus Prime die on the big screen: "The hell you do, you half-wit imposter of a prime!"
Sad to see how Rodimus went from being a boss in the movie to pretty much non stop doubting himself throughout the rest of the series. They really could've done a lot with him.
