jaydun05 I was going they'd mention how bakeries EVERYWHERE are turning into Vietnamese owned pastry shops. Best bakeries in NOLA are Viet. Traditional Italian sweets, French stuff...their colonization history makes Vietnamese people kick ass in that industry.
Southern Louisiana is surprisingly similar to Vietnam in more ways than one. Intense food, french colonies, hot humid weather, diverse geography, clan mentality instead of family mentality.
@@xaviermccloud4586 She's actually not. the majority of america is the same way only certain people in certain places can say they've eaten more baguette than white bread. White bread is the most common bread in the american household
There we go...Finally an episode that talks about what is in the food. This show has been the best of these to date as it tells a more detailed story about the relationship between the people and the food, why that is special, what within the food makes those relationships matter, etc. It tied everything into a nice 11min package. Very good episode there folks.
She Must Be From the burbs and not from the Chi(not that there’s anything wrong). I’m from the south side and we don’t call it that. Did Miss info say she's from Chicago, say they have hot beef sandwiches and only tourists eat them? I'm from chicago and they are italian beef sandwiches and we eat them all the time here. Congratulations, you played yourself
I thought the same. No real or even partial Chicagoan calls an Italian beef a hot beef sandwich. And most neighborhoods have their favorite Italian beef place, so her story is wrong.
This series is super dope. really showing the culture of the city. Also NoLa is way too underrated as a city. It really is one of the coolest and definitely most unique
As a port city New Orleans is home so many cultures and cultural blends. An amazing place to be. The distinct diversity from one district to another makes a trolley ride a cultural time tunnel.
As someone whose father is from south Louisiana with a Korean mother, I make hybrid Korean Soul Food. it's awesome to see Vietnamese from the south did the same thing with their food!
Moreover, shit dude, if food is good, enjoy it. Po' boys are good. Italian beef sammies are good. Don't be so pretentious and pretend to be 'above' food just because other people enjoy it. Also, if a regional dish is so fucking good that people travel from around the country to eat it, maybe its because its damn good food that's worth enjoying. Whats next? New Yorkers stop eating pizza because tourists eat it? Fuck that, Pizza is great. No one is above a good slice.
Rick Calderone my mother's whole side of the family is from Chicago. I've been there every summer is I can remember. Never seen any of them eat Italian Beef either lol
Tj C lol maybe it's just some groups then? that's where my dad's half of the family is from too and they practically live on Italian beef sandwiches lmao
The host is a not right about how only Chicago tourists eat beef sandwiches. I'm a native and we love beef sandwiches. It's our favorite thing about our city
A lot of people are like it's just a sandwich but its what it represents. Food can unite people from different cultures. It's really nice to see people willing to try food from another culture and be inspired by it. I still remember my friends being disgusted or afraid of pho or stir fried noodles. Also I remember when I would go to Viet restaurants there would only be Vietnamese customers and now its diverse.
This series doesn't get as much love as Hot Ones, but nonetheless I love every episode, so awesome to peak behind the curtains of these food cultures in different cities
yourjoking Right hey I'm only mentioning wat I Kno. in history incest has been really big in europeans. if I'm an idiot for sharing history lol then I'm an idiot for life
yourjoking Right I'm white and from southern Louisiana, many northern white families do engage in mild and distant incest, it literally is kind of just the truth. However, southern louisianan (baton rouge, New Orleans, etc)families tend to avoid that through extreme diversity of people's and cultures. Here In baton rouge, everyone's a little mixed, and not just like the people in the northern US claim; here it is quite hard to find anyone who's more than 80% anything, and chances are that if you're 100% white, your family may have engaged in incest. This specifically happened with some, like the Le Blanc and guidry families.
What an awesome amazing inspiring video. All I want to do is travel to Nola and get me a Vietnamese poboy. I'm going to find this locally in Fort Worth Texas myself and see if they can do the real thing real well.

Wasn't mentioned in the video that both Vietnam and Louisiana were colonized by the French at one point... hence the French bread
Yep. That probably explains the Vietnamese migration and some of the overlaps in cuisine.
