I know it gets said every time a new one is posted, but Harry & Joe on a road trip are just magical together. May we never run out of food niches for you guys to investigate.
Last time in NO I showed up to domilise’s a few minutes after they closed… the owner invited me in, fired up the grill and made me a fresh po’boy. Life long fan 👍
@@nathanieldimemmo1330 I agree. I'm sure this restaurant was open at least 8 hours prior to his arrival. But nope, he had to show up after it was closed and extend what was probably an 8, 12 even 16 hour day for the owner. Pretty disrespectful imo.
I’m from New Orleans and you are right-Thank you! We are famous for our food for good reason--It’s Delicious. I’m proud to be a great New Orleans cook, according to all my friends and family. 😊 My parents took us to Parkway when we were kids (I’m 73), before it was turned into what ever it is now. 👎🏼 The closest I have found to the original Parkway Bakery is Bear’s in Covington or Big Bears in Mandeville Louisiana. Delicious!!!
Guy’s has been open 42 years. A million sandwiches in that time would be 23.8k per year. 65.2 per day. Or in an 8 hour day, 8.15 per hour. Honestly…not a stretch to say he’s made a million.
The thing about Louisiana food, is that every dish is approachable, unassuming, and incredibly delicious... Our treasured dishes are for the everyman, not for some pretentious food blogger from the big city who wants tasting menus... We cook for everybody, and we make sure they're full before they finish... we just happen to have an amazing resource of ingredients from this beautiful land, and we cherish the hard working peoples that provide for us
I eat at least one po'boy per day when visiting NOLA. Ended up at Guy's simply because we were walking in the LDS and needed something to eat. Didn't realize it was so highly rated. Great spot, this was midday on a weekday and there were a ton of construction workers and locals on their lunch break. I got the shrimp and my dad the roast beef - both were amazing!
Joe dunking in the beverage at the end there! These lads are really gelling as a team. Great format, great personalities. More England next year, please.
Wish you had tried Domilise's hot sausage po-boy. I do understand keeping it simple with the classics, but it's really freaking amazing and very underrated and under-discussed. Nice vid.
It's a shame you guys didn't go for a fried oyster, catfish, or soft shell crab po boy this go round, but next time! Also don't sleep on the muffuletta sandwich! Glad you had fun!
never had a po'boy in new orleans, but it is on the bucket list. it looks so simple but there must be something special about it. also now i just want some french bread with some good butter.
Very special sandwich. The simplicity is its strength it's only the things you need and nothing you don't. Everything is there for a reason and all the ingredients compliment each other. Absolute perfection in a sandwich
Just in perfect time to do some scouting for my next adventure (checks time of the year) Not in hurricane season :D . You guys did awesome thanks for the recommendations!
In my 65 years, I have lived in Louisiana twice and have been to New Orleans many times. While I would eat the hell out of those sandwiches at Killer Po'boys, those sandwiches were not Po'boys. The Po'boys at Parkway are what I think of when I think about a Po'boy. And now I deeply need a proper Po'boy from anywhere in Louisiana. I don't know what it is about everywhere else in the USA that can't make a simple proper Po'boy.
i'm a new New Orleanian (see what I did there?) and this episode couldn't have come at a better time. I'm going to try all four when i get a chance. Thanks!
Hello, new New Orleanian. Hot tip on Parkway…on Wednesdays in November, they make a thanksgiving poboy with turkey, cornbread stuffing, gravy, and cranberry sauce. It’s soo good (I had one today), but be prepared to need a nap afterwards! -signed, a lifelong New Orleanian
Can we have a full FAQ session video about these series'? I genuinely have so many questions about when you two go tour each other's countries and would love to know how y'all put these video series together.
Glad you got to eat food from my state, was a little sad that yall weren't asking for extra gravy for those roast beef poboys though! That's the only way to eat those!
Every time I have been to Domilise’s (3 in all) it has poured it down. I literally lol’ed when it happened to you too. The shrimp and oyster combo is my go to. Regarding NO, it’s the one city in the US that I have been to where every bite of food I had was superb. I LOVE going there.
I still dream of killer Po boys. I had a list a mile long of poboy places when I visited and ended up eating there every day. God I miss the food and folk in New Orleans
The shrimp at parkway is about as textbook as it gets for a po-boy... It's my personal favorite in nola but my all time favorite is the shrimp at George's Southside in baton rouge. I grew up on it so I have nostalgia bias but it's definitely a sandwich I'll never be able to live without
Po boys are great. My favorite sandwich is the muffuletta. Recently drove from a town in Florida 45 min to get one. And I can say Tibby’s in Brandon was so worth it.
Gotta love watching Harry and Joe grab some good grub while I'm sitting at home eating some food, pretending I was eating one of those sandwiches lol. Pretty funny they were talking about struggling to pace themselves and literally next spot they went inside to get another sandwich lol.
That dude at Guy’s is Marvin and yep he talks to everyone who comes in like you’re his oldest friend. I love that joint. I knew Guy when I was a teenager and I was working at Streetcar Poboys on Carrollton. Also love Parkway but it’s a lot more chaotic. I suggest you do both
The bread is unique because of the humidity, but more importantly, the mineral content of the water... drive 1 hour west and its completely different... that's why most poboy shops in south louisiana get their bread from new orleans... just a 30 minute drive in any direction and it's not the same
Domilise's wins for me also, as someone who does not really like raw tomatoes(love them cooked) and loves mustard on a lot of my sammiches. Have had Parkway and Guy's, both are good but missing those key touches I love.
@@tedhodge4830 It is less a taste and more a texture thing with me. I also love fried okra but don't like pickled okra, even though I love most pickled things. Just don't like slimy texture. Like baked oysters, not raw ones, for the same reason.
My hometown, it's pronounced Noo Awlins. Favorite poboys is roast beef dressed dripping with gravy and mynez. Fried shrimp dressed with remoulade is a close second
Powerade is an underrated choice, it's too damn hot not to not reup your electorates. There is a pretty large Italian and Vietnamese population in NOLA, so the fusion influence in the last place was definitely intentional.
Parkway is by far not one the the top 4...It's one of the worst for roast beet. The meat is bland and they rely solely on the gravy to carry it. You obviously didn't do much research.

If I had to recommend just 2 pure “foodie” cities to anyone in America, it would be New Orleans and Chicago

Zapp's chips is based in Gramercy. It is a a small town roughly 30 to 45 minutes north west of New Orleans
Zapps is owned by Utz chips now out Hanover Pennsylvania

slight correction - 400lb is about 1/5 of a ton. Still a hell of a lot of roast beef though.

Harry and Joe, the best show.

I love this series so much
I love beignets!!!! I've even been to Café Du Monde for them....and a spot of hot cocoa. Nov, 2016.
Harry's shirt game has been on point lately
Killer Po' Boy's sandwiches look like Po' Bahn Mi, which makes sense. Louisiana has a large Vietnamese Americn population.
My favourite food city on the entire planet!

Oyster ("Urster") Po Boys are the best!
Shrimp and oyster combo is the best po boy imo
The ol half and half is top tier for sure

Yup. So rough. Glad I’m not alone.
You chose 4 great spots for sure.
I'm on board with Harry about having no tomatoes in sandwiches!
Most Poboy shops don’t even use the good bread in NO anymore. Shrimp without remoulade is just playin.
Bear’s in Metairie.

YES! Fried oyster po-boy is by far one top favorites.
I find that Guy’s shrimp are some of the best seasoned seafood anywhere, but they are pretty much always overcooked.

Im gonna have to go try guys next. I tried the james brown at parkway finally in September and it was hands down the best poboy ive ever had.

The beignets are heavy at Cafe du Monde. It's almost like they lost the recipe one time and think they're supposed to be that way.
2nd po’boy is clever. Marketing is lit 🔥
Side note: I hate all "flavored" potato chips- BBQ, sour cream 'n' onion, etc.- all that shit. The ONE exception is Zapp's Crawtator chips. So good.
Looks so good😋
