    I just bought a 2020 (w/ppg) for my son (his 21st birthday and a trade for his Sonata for me ). He’s been talking about it for a year, and after watching reviews like this I was sold too. He wanted manual and I love it. The car is outrageous on the roads in the hills!!! We rented a WRX, a Slingshot, a Miata, a C7z51, a 370z. The Veloster is more fun than any!! The Corvette is a dream and very scary, but not as practical and mega $$$ (plus I’ll take the C8). The Veloster is fantastic!!! (Suspension in Sport+ is punishing and spills my Monsters all over!!). BTW: we looked for 2021 in black, w/6 spd (in Ca Bay Area) and there aren’t ANY!!! Everything coming in is a DCT. We settled for a white one w/only about 9k miles. Love it!!! (I still love Camaros, top fuel dragsters, and the like, but this is a riot and affordable.)

    That should tell you something.
    I haven't test-driven one of these yet but they look fun, from what i've seen for the past 2 years.
    I once had my Mustang in the shop for an extended period of time about two weeks, and they gave me a loaner Ford Focus ST, that little Focus had such good brakes and handled so nimbly and had such sharp steering it felt like night and day over the Mustang, i was actually having more fun in the ST than my Mustang! I was going to get the 2021 Sonata Limited, than I saw they are coming out with an Sonata N-Line. Following that was watching the Veloster N. Thing is, I'm a big guy at 6'2, 265lbs so I don't think the Veloster N is going to work out too well for me lol. Hence why I'm getting the Sonata N-Line. It fits my body type perfectly. I would def love to take the Veloster N out for a test drive just to see how it is.
    Hyundai has just been doing amazing with their cars and people can say what they want but they aren't the Hyundai that they were years ago. Hyundai brought over ex BMW guy Albert Biermann for a reason, and it's showing with what not just Hyundai is putting out, but also KIA and he's responsible for the Stinger as well. They're really offering something for everyone between Hyundai, KIA and Genesis.

    I was selling Hyundai’s when this model came out. I was really excited about it at first. Then it proved to be a sales dog. Boy was I disappointed. Well, then they did a couple smart things. First, they hired Albert Bierman away form BMW’s M division and he started to work his magic! He took the Veloster off the accent platform and moved it to the Elantra sport platform with it’s independent rear suspension. Then he put that 2.0 turbo motor in it for some real power. I retired 5 years ago after 20 years in the car business. 15 of those years I sold high end luxury cars for Infinity, Jaguar, and Lexus. Then Obama came and messed with our economy and luxury cars sales stalled! I saw the 2010 Sonata and was blown away. Was this really a Hyundai? I moved to Hyundai in Downers Grove, Illinois (Pugi Hyundai) and was pleasantly surprised at how well they took care of my customers and Hyundai had really started to put out a great product!

    Now that we're in mid 2022, and the Elantra N is out... I'm so conflicted. We get an extra 29 pd-ft of TQ, as well as that beautiful digital gauge cluster and infotainment. But the VN exterior is so much nicer. Also, in rolling races, even with the VN DCT having a tune vs the EN DCT, the EN still pulled away pretty easily compared to the VN. Now the tune was a pretty cheap to an apparently and a jb4 would have most likely given the Veloster N the win.
    But in many videos we're seeing the Elantra N pulling on tuned STIs and tuned s3s.
    But it's so damn ugly in my opinion even though I've never seen one up close. However I absolutely love it's customization, which is even a little more versatile than the Veloster N but not much more. I just love the idea of a black Veloster N and how mean it would look. Especially with a few minor aesthetic mods.
    I'm coming out of a mk7 Golf R which I have tuned and done full bolt-ons etc etc and I wanted to get something that came right out of the box without having to mod anything for performance. And the Elantra N DCT does that, whereas I would most likely end up doing a JB4 to the Veloster N to get it around 300 pound feet and just a little over 300 HP. Don't want to go overboard and overwhelm the chassis and it's natural feel.
    Anyway maybe if I go and check out a black Elantra N DCT it might hide some of the ugliness because I absolutely love that car so much in every other way.

    • @jamesluna162
      @jamesluna162 2 года назад

      I suspect the 2022 Veloster N's are underrated just like the Kona and Elantra N. I saw a video posted recently of a stock 22 Veloster N 6 speed on terrible tires running a 13.9 at almost 103 MPH. Now if you compare that with all the other videos of stock Veloster N's running the quarter, you'll see that they struggle to trap 100 MPH.
      There was also a TSB put out about oil capacity that included late year 2022 Veloster N's, and all Kona and Elantra N's. I assume they are all using the same engine now.
      I also got to test drive a Kona N, and it didn't feel as fast as my 22 Veloster N 6 speed. I'm sure it is faster because of the 8 speed DCT, but it didn't put me in my seat the same way my Veloster N does.

    How does the transmission on the DCT model work when in SPORT or N Mode, as far as shifting throughout the rev range? Is it left entirely to the driver to upshift and downshift at any desired point throughout the rev range (as if driving a true manual transmission), or does the onboard computer interfere with driver input at certain revs if no input is detected from the driver as is the case in many automatics with paddle shifters?
