Stevie Guitar Miller. His songs have been on the air everywhere for over 40 years and everyone knows them. What a great legacy.
Just saw him in October 2022. Still playing and singing just as good as ever! 👍
I have enormous respect for a guy who put out such great work and remained true to himself. He's a great artist who crossed over and avoided celebrity trapping. Way to go Steve - you rule!
His songs are rock classics! Great guy so down to earth and humble they don’t make ‘em like that anymore. nobody can touch the GrEAT Steve Miller!
It would be so great to sit with him and listen to his stories. Great storyteller.🙂
His Greatest Hits package is one of the best ever! Solid rock!
Fantastic life story. Bless him.
So humble. Awesome man, musician and a true rock star!
Humble?? After hearing that story about him telling off the studio exec? Not my definition of "humble"
@@kendallevans4079 yeah i caught that too. Quite full of it?
@@kendallevans4079 LOL, what "telling off"? He successfully negotiated a recording contract, at a time when they were taking HUGE advantage of MOST new and up-and-coming musicians. No, humble doesn't mean allowing people to walk all over you. And he made them a ton of money. He IS a humble person, but doesn't put up with bullshit.
@@screwyootube1 The way he went about it is cocky and egotistical. He is lucky to be where he is considering his music is mostly 3 chord "campfire" songs. His lyrics are pathetic (Take The Money and Run?). I seen him in several interviews and he is always a jerk!
First album that I ever had that I procured (thanks, Mom) was Fly Like An Eagle. Mom said that I could pick out one record, I had 0 idea what I was looking for but the cover was just so cool to me. The album was right out front on display, a new release 1976. This was the same year that I joined band as a drummer in school and had a snare drum. I would be in my room following the song with just the snare and fell in love with the drummer, and the songs. I've owned every subsequent Steve Miller output since. I love playing along on my guitar now, sometimes my drums, but always singing. From the Seattle area myself, Steve Miller is a true legend in my eyes! THANK YOU STEVE MILLER BAND!!
I am already in awe of this man and his amazing songwriting and musical talent, but I was absolutely floored when I heard that he was partially mentored by Les Paul. I mean damn, imagine being taught by the guy who practically invented the solid body electric. Wow.
Number 5, greatest album I have. Took me from St. Ignace to Sault Ste Marie 1970.
Steve Miller is definitely a rock star. He tore it up at Eagles Auditorium in Seattle in the summer of 68. When he did Livin' in the U.S.A. (Somebody give me a cheesburger!!) the crowd literally screamed the chorus...I went three nights running,
The Joker was the first single I ever bought back in 73 when I was a small kid at Gemco. I then discovered the full lp and went back and bought that too. He was an inspiration for sure. He's a rock star in the eyes of real musicians and I think that's what really matters to a fellow musician. Thanks Steve.
Steve Miller, your are AWESOME!!!!!!!! I am now in my 50's so your music brings back a lot of my teenage memories!!!! Driving down country roads and rocking out to Steve Miller Band and Foreigner and The Cars! Those were the days, I am just now getting back to hearing that music again also E.L.O is great! I watched your videos the other night and had so much fun at the computer. My teenage son was looking at me and laughing. Life doesn't get any better than that! Thanks for the memories!!!!!!!
When Steve takes the guitar off he’s just “me again”. I wish I knew more about him. The man behind the music sort of thing. What music does he like? Movies? Sports? I don’t think we will ever know but I’m happy playing his music and it’s a joyful thing. 🙂
Miller faced fierce competition for Grammy awards in 1973 through 77, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Paul McCartney, the Eagles, etc. it was a great decade for music. Personally, I think Fly Like an Eagle was Grammy worthy.
The Joker, Fly Like An Eagle and Book Of Dreams was a run of three perfect albums. A very rare and incredible achievement.
SuperStrik9 , yep, the deep tracks are as good as the hits. Fly Like an Eagle was my first LP. Bought it when I was in 7th grade.
He was on fire in those days! They released "Greatest Hits 1974 - '78" based off of just the 2nd two albums (plus the title track from The Joker added because it would be crazy not to add his first #1 hit!), and it has the feel of a list of hits from a long career! At least half of these songs weren't even singles, but the quality of the music, the lyrics, the production make them all sound like they were hits, too! :)
I prefer the seven previous albums (not the early other band’s album). Some of the most beautiful and psychedelic music ever made!
Sailor .....uhmmmmm
To me hes the greatest rock star of all time....Down to earth and views himself as a normal guy. Wish he got more credit for what he created.
Since my teenage years (and even before I think), I really loved Steve Miller Band's songs! What an amazing man and artist! A great frontman as well with a very fine sense of humour! Much respect, all the best, and many blessings from a great Steve Miller fan from Romania! Rock on! 🤘
What Miller does best is craft a pop rock song...and he does it as good as anyone ever! He wrote Rockin Me Baby in 15 mins as a stadium filler that became one of the great rock tunes. "Fighting for FULL artistic control" He also was SMART in controlling the studio musicians/performances. Hiring Gary Mallober on drums was a brilliant move to start with.
No hes not a rock "star". He's a rock gift. Humble, generous...and one hell of a catalog of music. I've been a fan over 40 years..
So awesome. He did Summerfest in Milwaukee last year, what a treat. He just has that Midwest humble, hard working, personable style. The music is some of the best you'd hear from the 70's.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame only just this past week. Wow, took them long enough.
yeah, but that Hall Of Fame is a set up. It ignored Kiss for far too long as well.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is Jann Wenner's personal record collection. Don't you have friends that have different albums from you. Don't put that much stock in it.
Hes only bitched abt the rrhf since his induction
That whole thing is lame as shot anyway. Very silly thing to create.
i love to smoke and listen to steve miller hes been one of my life time favorites!
I'm a midnight toker, too!
definitely underrated. steve is a legend.
I saw Steve in 1978 at the first concert at Giants stadium in NJ, I was 11.
Steve Miller is a rock star who doesn't "act" like a rock star even though he knows he is one. Everyone who hears his music knows he's got it because it's unmistakable. We all love him because it's like garage band hits the big stage and he made it but he never suffered from I, Me, Mine syndrome like too many others who became Legends in their own minds when they got noticed.
People relate to his stuff because he's always had that down to earth blue collar quality to his music and his tunes were always catchy with a good groove and excellent lyrics. You'd find yourself humming those tunes in the middle of the day or at night or at any given time without even thinking about it because they just stuck in your mind every time he came out with a new one. I like the way he described himself as just a regular guy.
Very under rated musician and song writer. Yo Stevo... Keep on rockin' me baby!!!
To have Les Paul show you how to play chords as a child is greatest story ever. Even with Les Paul as a mentor, Miller preferred playing Fender Strats!
He brought a lighter edge to rock at the right time with a bit of humor !! Song writing simple and fun and relatable
TOTAL CLASS ACT
thank you so much for your music✌
This was an excellent video!! Thanks to whoever put it together. I have been a fan of his since the early 70's but I never knew the Les Paul part of the story. Just a great little piece on a great man. Thanks again.
Love you Steve, Legend!
Steve Miller Is A ROCKSTAR AND EVEN BETTER YET A ROCK PLANET, GOD BLESS YOU MR.STEVE MILLER, YOU PUT MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN WHERE YOU AND I WERE BORN, YOUR AN AMAZING GUITARIST, SINGER SONGWRITER 🤔😇🎸👏👌
Steve is a true legend !!!!! Class Act still puts on a Awesome show my 16 year old daughter loves his Music also. We will be there July 17 Alpharetta GA. Steve with Peter Frampton looking so forward to it once again .
As a young german boy as the age of 14 i got first contact to bluesrock by his Song, take the money and run, within the rolling guitar solo., from then on i knew thats it. Bluesrock is what i like most, Steve, George thorogood, rory gallagher, thin lizzy, gary moore, bluesband and bto were always my favorites.
Of course he's a rock star. The heritage alone is the bomb. I was a 20 year old when I was turned on to his music. It's been part of my life ever since. I taught my daughter at 6 how to skate to, Keep On Rocking Me Baby.
Steve Miller Band was a big part of The San Francisco Free Concerts in Golden Gate Park in the 1960's. Also The Steve Miller Blues Band.
Time keeps on slipping slipping into the future! Gotcha Steve.
ever since i was 13, Steve Miller Band was my favorite band of all time. I'm 16 now, and i have all his albums :)
Number 5 is my favorite album of all time!
Great pick 👍
Very impressive! You have exquisite taste in music!
How to have complete control of your music staring steve Miller. I really admire the guy!
Just saw this past weekend in Houston. 79 and still rockin !!
We love Steve Miller almost 50 years old loved him since s kid listening to my parents albums
Saw Steve Miller in 2010 at the Albert Hall GB. It was one of the best nights of my life. Pure Rock and roll professionalism and what a nice guy as well. He rocked me.
Mighty show, thanks,I bought an Ibanez artist in the late 70s because he played one.
Songs, voice, guitar, production, has it all going on. You know it is him in three notes.
I think his first 5 albums are really his best. always had a great band. saw him in 72 or 73 at a backed Keil auditorium st Louis mo. played with his band for about a half hour the band left and he grabbed a 12 string acoustic and amazed the place, you could hear a pin drop. not an easy thing to do. and when he wants to he can really play the blues. journey from eden, going to Mexico, liven in the USA all great songs that got an awful lot of airplay on fm stations but am was where the charts were. Vaya Con Dios Steve
Boz scaggs was a member of his band for 2 albums! Sailor and Children of the future!
They also were schoolmates at St.Mark's School of Texas in Dallas.
Great music and humble, yes he's a Rock Legend. I'm sure musicians would agree
Steve Miller 1 of the top 10 rock bands of all time
Can't imagine my life without Stevie Guitar Miller's amazing songs as its soundtrack.
Timeless voice and sound.
I saw him live a couple months ago. He's still amazing. :)
Holy crap....I have loved this guy since my now exhusband played "Dear Mary" for me when I was 19 years old....He is the musician that played the soundtrack of my life....Commericial? NOT. A poet, a musician a human being of the first kind. The East Coast adores Stevie 'guitar' Miller...(ps - my Mother is a Doctor as well!!!)
This was the only comment that mentioned his early classic best stuff. Makes me sad that people don't appreciate real creativity, only two more commercial modern style. His first three albums from the 60s were awesome
7:04 Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado y'all!! And 1:37 is My Dark Hour where the incomparable Paul Ramon did backup instruments and vocals!
i think i met him, don't know why he would want to meet me, but he is a rock star and better yet, very down to earth.
He's not a rock star...."he's a ROCK AND ROLL 🌟
Steve Miller is the greatest Rock Star ever.
Carl Dennis Yeah, no. 😂
At age 17, I saw Steve in Chicago on the Book of Dreams tour, it was Walter Egan, Pablo Cruise, Steve Miller Band and the Eagles (on their Hotel California tour) were the headliners. That was probably my best concert ever! 1978 baby!!!! WOOOOO!!!!
Anthology has been with me on LP, cassette, CD, and now digital for over 40 plus years, that and Sailor,
I know good music,
Just saw him tonight at the Wolftrap in Vienna, VA for the third time. Great show as always. Seems like a really cool guy; sounds as good as ever.
I love Steve Miller. I have since I was a little girl
Excellent Steve - The Best.
Thank you i love your work
"Sugar Babe" off his Joker LP...serious Southern Rock, before Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet or .38 Special got out of high school. To this day, I get a thrill listening to his guitar playing in layers on it. He's as good a producer as he is a songwriter/performer.
The juke boxes of the college bars I frequented in the mid 70's were always playing SMB, and today my spotify classic rock playlist has a lot of SMB. Always makes me smile when I hear them.
Book of Dreams has been my favorite album since 1977. Actually it was my favorite 8 track then.
That guitar lick at 1:38, also "My Dark Hour".
BMP
I remember Steve Miller opening up for KISS in 1979 at Vets here in Des Moines, best concert I have ever seen.
"pompatoose" was selected as word of the year by merriam-webster dictionary
Thumbs up for the reference. I would humbly like to remark, it is actually "Pompatus" . (Pompatis occasionally) for those who want to look it up. Wikki has a good write-up about it's origins, and more specifically, how it became part of Steve's wordplay.
Steve talks about the word with Jimmy Fallon recently:

i saw him just two years .. for the first time i've ever seen him and all he played were hits .......jungle love he only played a bar or two from ,,the only bummer !! I LOVE THAT SONG !
The Joker, Fly Like An Eagle, and Book of Dreams are all such GREAT albums. Steve is one of the best songwriters ever imo. Non musicians don't often realize writing short catchy tunes like jet airliner or take the money and run is HARD. FLAE was a long jam out tune when Steve first wrote it, and when it came time to put it on record, he refined it and refined it like the artist he is. It woulda been ALOT easier to keep it as a long epic tune like it is live.
aussies love this guy, he has had so many hits here in australia
At the out door ampatheatre Pine Knob ( now known as the DTE energy music center) Jimmy Buffet holds the record for the most sold out shows. Steve Miller is number 2
what an awesome guy
Steve Miller is one of the rock 'n roll legends
like stones, beatles, berry, hendrix, sprinsteen, turner and and and... His latest two albums(bingo & let your hair down) are soooo coool - listen them & have a good time...
And Queen are a rock legend.
I love Steve since i started to play guitar... I was 6 yeahrs old and now i'm 50 !!!
That's my passion.... 😎😎😎
NOT a rock star. More like ROCK GOD.
Steve Miller an American musical icon. So underrated. Look at his discography and who he has played with. The likes of Paul McCartney, Nicki Hopkins, and Boz Scaggs. The list goes on and on. Amazing musician, guitarist and songwriter.
@Jeff C by those who have written that after the 70's he sold out to corporate top 40 pop (i.e. The Joker and Abracadabra). I don't agree; but it's out there. Go back to his early works. Sailor, Brave New World, Number 5. This Les Paul protege couldn't be LESS underrated back then.
getting lessons from les paul can't hurt, i teh u wut
@Jeff C not by me or anyone I know
fly like an eagle and book of dreams are prefect...every song....i still look forward to his new music....his last 2 cds are pretty good
That "home studio" could fit a regular entire home.
Steve miller epitomizes cool!
He rocks it like an accountant.
I met steve when he played a gig in Michigan state University in 1973 good time
I enjoyed his Born to be Blue album ...it showed his jazz roots ...classic and a hit with me
Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits purchased at Amoeba Records in Hollywood, the quintessential soundtrack for cruising around Los Angeles
Massive cheeseball for years, but he also had many years of making some great rock n' roll; great music in general. See 1968-'72, '76-'77.
Keep on rockin us, Steve!
Normal guy? He's a fucking legend. He was my first love and even though I've moved on to Punk, Indie, and anything obscure Steve was my pioneer. What he was doing in the 60s was the indie of today.
He actually ripped himself off on fly like an eagle. That guitar lick is actually from his song my dark hour that he recorded with Paul McCartney.
I'm going to try and contact the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame committee and get them to consider the Steve Miller Band. They should really be in there
Steve is awesome!
Most of the soundtrack of my youth right here. He was bigger than he realized, he may have had a clue but he literally rocked 4 generations and most of those people probably couldn't name the band lol They were that good!
Amazes me how now you hear Pop boppers referring to themselves as Rock stars and it makes them just laughable to me. Steve's music is just that timeless Blues/Rock that immediately takes you to another place for awhile.
Did not realize all those hits were steve Miller
Seems like a really nice, approachable guy.
Stevie RULES!!!
WRONG! YAHOVAH IS GOD
He is anything but Normal… Just the fact that he’s still down to earth is so amazing!
He knows he’s a legend, but takes it in stride…
Yep he's a well rounded guy........and a damn good writer, player and singer........rock star no thank goodness.......rock musician, a definite yes.
Fly Like An Eagle and Rockin Me will forever be connected in my soul to my Freshman year in college. Yeah, I’m that old. Start drawing SS next year.
Great guitarist and lyricist
You are a super rock star!!
Love you, Steve.
Back when music was music.
