Billy Joel in 2020? How about Billy Joel forever.
Yeah...
Billy Joel is a beautiful man.
He aged perfectly into a chubby adorable bald man.
Forget Beethoven...Joel has always been a modern day Mozart to me!
That's sad.
beethoven is okay but hes no billy joel
Billy's teeth are Brighter than my future
Lol
Just saw this, but wishing you the best and positivity. Kindest regards.
Billy seems like a really good guy and he is certainly one of the most talented songwriters of all-time!
Saw him at Fenway Park. He was amazing
That is my dream concert; Billy Joel at MSG
Every 13 year old boy should be given billy Joel's greatest hit's on his birthday.
Yes to expose them to how bad music was when their parents were growing up.
Crimsonphilosophy AMEN TO THAT!!!😁😎
There are worse gifts ;)
rdecredico I like Joel but that made me laugh. So thanks for that
rdecredico music is awful now
This man is a genius. He make things look easy.
Love his songs, his voice, been to his concerts etc, but calling him a genius is a bit far fetched to me.
More like a very talented musician, like many others.
@@tman5634
Based on all the videos of all your talents you have posted on Y/T I would assume your level of genius is the benchmark for others.
Get a life chump change and leave the music to those that can hear it, appreciate it, and write it..
Simplicity is the true mark of a genius.
Joel writes lyrics as easy as breathing..
It's crazy
He's not that much of a genius if he actually believes Trump called white supremacists "good people."
@@tman5634 Musical genius.
Great musician!
Great.

the greatest american songwriter ever bar none
@RakeRocter Bob Dylan is a folk musician and Billy Joel is a general musician with many different styles. Hard to compare them. Both are same great and living legends.
Billy Joel and Bob Dylan are fantastic without doubt, but I humbly suggest George Gershwin and Cole Porter as at least contenders for the greatest of all time.
As an afterthought, and taking nothing away from the aforementioned, I submit the names of Carole King and Burt Bacharach.
Johnny Mercer is another name that cannot be ignored.
oof have you heard of bob dylan or leonard cohen?
god bless !
His success makes me happy.
This got 100 likes! Which would be in line with MSG!
@@jaybee2344 he's self made
Billy Joel, simply LEGEND.
6:07
Why did he want to be Beethoven? He is Billy Joel, that is great enough.
Yes, he is.
Only fools are satisfied
@@octavian2381 He can dream on, but don't imagine they'll all come true.
Waaay more talented then Beethoven
I’m mangling this quote that was applied in a different context, but it’s something like, “Why be a second-rate Beethoven, when you can be a first-rate Billy Joel?” He’s an American treasure. He deserves all the success and good things that come his way. Cheer#! JT
I hope he lives a long time! Love his music and him. Stay healthy Billy❤️
I'd be honored if some Billy Joel fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of ALLENTOWN and VIENNA on my YT channel in tribute to the master. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and peace.
Stephanie Hansen Great comment God bless you
He'll stay healthy playing with little kids.....
I hope you mean he live for the longest time 😉
@Stephanie Hansen ♥️🌈
Thank you for bringing us so much joy with your music Billy!
klfmc rjn he is the best!
Most definitely!!! Great lyricist... great performer... thank you Mr. Joel!!! My personal favorite album "Songs In The Attic."
Now it's reaffirmed that critics fall short of speaking for people but only can tell their own opinion.
Billy Joel's music some of the best things in life.
Love Billy Joel. I hope he performs as long as HE WANTS!! He will always have an audience!
He still sounds good.
I didn't realize he was that short.
Saw him in hamburg last month absolutely brilliant!
WeeklyTens, I saw him on RUclips today!
My wish for Billy Joel is that someday he gets how good he really is.
Thank you thank you. Am just really overwhelmed for your love and support my friend I love you God bless you my fan contact me directly on my official email officialbillyjo@gmail.com hope to hear from you soon
The 1st songwriter whose music I fell in love with.
mike young Same. My older brother was huge into music and I had ZERO interest (6 grade ish). One day I ran across a VH1 all day Billy Joel Marathon...the rest is history.
TheMacocko I was eleven when the love affair began. Song.... ‘Movin’ Out’. Fave- ‘Honesty’.
Same. Billy & Queen. I remember sitting in the floor of my sister's room when I was 2 or 3 years old listening to Glass Houses and The Game on vinyl over and over and over again.
DrRosenpenis No way! I swear, Queen is my #2 fave! That's crazy.
Same. The reason I became a musician. I bought Greatest hits volume 1&2 three times because I wore the tape out.
He is my favorite singer, I love him so much.
Christine J. Me too. I became a musician because of him. When I was a kid, I had to buy Billy joel's greatest hits volumes 1&2 three times because I wore the tapes out from listening so much. True story.
Christine J. Last year my dream came true and got to see him for the first time in concert.

who cares what you love or hate?
tiarnan I love your mom.
tiarnan well, clearly you do cause you bothered to write a comment.
The S on his hat stands for Superniceguy.
JabberCT not only have I heard he is very down to earth, but I believe they hat is from a college not even in NY that gave him an honorary degree
Its from Syracuse University...
Andrew whitcomb, the hat is from Syracuse university, which is indeed in NY.
The S stands for Smoothness ! This dude is a humble badass !
Why is it when I hear him sing some of his songs I weep?

Billy Joel the best!
Ironic, everyday I have to forgive myself for not being Billy Joel...
TheMacocko 😂
You still sound so amazing !
Soulful voice..friendly guy
Billy Joel is a national treasure.
billy joel's a great musician with great values...
Dearly love the man and his music!
how do you not love this guy?? a true icon!! :)
I'd be honored if some Billy Joel fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of his classic compositions ALLENTOWN and VIENNA on my channel in tribute to the master. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and pardon the plug.
Will Ritter would love to!! I’ll check it out tonight :)

The King of Music 😁
Billy you are the BEST,
Have you ever fallen in love with someone's music for the first time and 40 years later nothing has changed? There's only one true Piano Man!!!
You're absolutely right! It's Elton John!
i’m 20 n just discovered uptown girl and the stranger. feels like I struck gold
His last album was 1993. It’s amazing he still sells out concerts over 25 years later! Great artist!
He definitely didn't start the fire! He SET the fire! Also, as an 80's baby, he'll always be Dodger the Dog in Disney's Oliver and Company.
I saw Billy Joel back in 1986 and it was freaking awesome.
It was kind of funny he was joking with some guy in the audience he asked the guy to throw him his wallet and the guy did, and Billy said you don’t throw your wallet to a complete stranger. I’m thinking to myself you’re not a complete stranger he may not know you personally but he knows who you are.
bob sponge haha! But Billy is “The Stranger!”
Greatest singer/songwriter ever!
So nice to see an authentic person who's an amazing writer and entertainer, and who's confident, but not full of himself.
Thank you thank you. Am just really overwhelmed for your love and support my friend I love you God bless you my fan contact me directly on my official email officialbillyjo@gmail.com hope to hear from you soon
I’m sure that many writers would gladly take credit for the 25% of his writings that Billy Joel would throw away. Billy Joel’s music grabs at me, my heart and soul more than any other artist out there. When I reach my low points I listen to Billy Joel to pull me up.
Tbh, Uptown Girl is my default song for cheering up.
"Entertaining us for 40 summers now." Wow!
Billy Joel arrives at his job in a helicopter what did you do today?
I pulled a muscle reaching for a pizza roll I dropped on the floor.
@@Novetrix goals
I saw him 40 years ago for the first time, on the Glass Houses tour (April, 1981). No opening act. I think that was the peak of his popularity.
I'm 30 and I'm a HUGE fan. I will be there for the 200th show!!!!
Thank you thank you. Am just really overwhelmed for your love and support my friend I love you God bless you my fan contact me directly on my official email officialbillyjo@gmail.com hope to hear from you soon
The critics BJ pilloried have come and gone, wallowing in their ego-pits, but his class as a composer and musician lives on.
So many songs to pick from......
I had the great honor to talk to Billy in 1991 for 15 min. at the lobby of an hotel after one of his shows. I gave him an album I recorded 3 years before. He is as humble as he is talented. I still can't believe I had a small conversation with such a LEGEND of our time. I cherish the picture I have with him. BILLY JOEL FOREVER!
I love Billy Joel and I never quite got over his break up with Christie Brinkley. I'm stuck loving the Billy of the 80's-90's. But I'm happy Billy found a good wife, Alexa, to now share a private home life with. He deserves that. And it saddens me now he's 69.. although looking great for his age. Time is relentless. I will always love Billy Joel.
Piano Man is his signature song. The one everyone comes to hear him perform.
I’m from jersey and spend a lot of time in Long Island, everyone I know from Long Island talks like billy Joel
How is the LI accent different from the NYC or North NJ accent? To me they sound the same but everyone says the LI accent is very different.
Sacrilege all very different.
@@WoodJack99 hi jack if you live here, i live in Jersey, you can tell but we all understand that if you are from another part of the country its hard to tell the difference. people here can tell if yr from hoboken vs the bronx vs brooklyn ect similar but also different!! its the "tony danza" effect lol
I'm 52 now (1967). I started listening to Joel in 76 when I was only 9-years old. Hearing his music then, seeing his growing catalog over the years, an noting that everything he did was completely hoisted from his own gray matter (words an music by Billy Joel) gave me a tremendous respect for him. I only play three composers for family, friends, and the occasional piano house when asked do so, Beethoven, Chopin , and Joel. As far as I'm concerned he's the best lyricist + composer of my generation. That he did both just seals the deal. And of course, that he dated and/or married a slew of supermodels was just fuel to the legend.
As a long islander growing up playing the keyboard/piano, Billy Joel is such an inspiration
ICON.
That’s amazing!!! He can play the piano, sing, and play the harmonica all at once!!!!
He took good care of his voice over the years. A living legend! 💯🤘
I went to concert #101 at MSG this month and it was great :)
I love That every night is a different show. Different set list. Digging out juicy nuggets from his catalog as well as covers. While he’s not writing new music, he’s not resting on his laurels at all.
Is it a big deal for you?!? Yeah, I maybe doing this the rest of my life. GOD BLESS YOU, MR. JOEL. You're music has made a lot of people HAPPY!!!😁😎
If only the world could be ruled by artists
I brought my dad for his 48th birthday in 2018 to see him play at MSG. It was the best concert he and I have ever been to (between the both of us we have seen over 100 shows) it was a night I will never forget.
Thank you thank you. Am just really overwhelmed for your love and support my friend I love you God bless you my fan contact me directly on my official email officialbillyjo@gmail.com hope to hear from you soon
One of my all time favorites!!
It’s like magic when he touches a piano
1976-1982 was my favorite period.
Pretty close to me, but I'd have to throw in Piano Man and Streetlife Serenade.
My favorite song of his, that I listen to over and over and over, is called "Summer, Highland Falls." If I ever see him live again, I'd love to hear it on solo piano. "They say that these are not the best of times, but they're the only times I've ever known..... and I believe there is a time for meditation in cathedrals of our own."
Thank you thank you. Am just really overwhelmed for your love and support my friend I love you God bless you my fan contact me directly on my official email officialbillyjo@gmail.com hope to hear from you soon
Off of "Songs in the Attic" is the best recorded version. He played it all the time in the early days. My first Billy Joel concert was in 1976
💖
I'm glad that I had the opportunity to see him on his River of Dreams tour.
I've been a die-hard fan of Billy Joel for 40 years now! Love the guy!!
Living on Long Island, I’ve seen him in concert at the Colosseum a number of times. Never a disappointment. He’s great.
Honest
Saw Billy Joel in Chicago in 92 or 93. His concert was one of the greatest experiences of my life!
As an Alumni I love the Syracuse Hat! Billy spoke at SU!
What an incredible musician, who has the most soulful voice..
I was there and it was awesome!
the Boss and the piano man in one show, would love to have seen that
What memories with his music... was my childhood... thank you, Billy

It’s amazing how many of the great artists I grew up listening to are still selling out arenas. I don’t think many of today’s artists will have that kind of longevity.
Awesome man to see and hear in Life! Be there. do that!!!
7:07 "Not being able to be satisfied" -Billy Joel. Also, Billy Joel "Don't ya know that only fools are satisfied"
Anthony's song is my all-time favorite song from him. I love it when the song comes to a halt by the piano sound and then it ends with the saxophones' sound.
An interesting ending to the interview with Billy about his song writing and why he stopped. In particular he stopped trying to write "Popular" music. I remember reading years ago that Billy said he "Hated writing". One of the reasons is that song writing can consume you, you're every thought before you go to bed at night and your first thought when you wake up. If you are good enough to write music, writing quality lyrics to go along with the song that matter and make sense, is even more difficult. As Billy said, he wanted to have a life. Putting something aside that takes up ALL of your life is much better than allowing it to consume you.
This interview made me happy.
The greatest American musician of all time.
Yes, he is indeed. It would be great if Billy Joel can write and record at least one more new studio album before he really wraps it up. These days, a group of Billy Joel fans are currently petitioning him to record new music soon and they are going crazy for new songs from him. Here is the petition and please check it out and share: www.change.org/p/we-want-billy-joel-to-record-and-release-a-new-studio-album-soon
First concert I ever saw in 1978, and I recently had the immense pleasure of seeing him at Madison Square Garden. I’m so grateful to him for the joy he has brought to my life.
Protect this man at all cost! ❤️❤️❤️🤟
i used to go in my brothers room as a little kid and take the stranger records just so i can listen to it...
What a treasure of an interview...
That’s mostly because he rarely does interview period!!
Class act! As much as I would have liked to see him write new songs I think that it’s extremely rare to see someone that is wise enough not to . Instead of forcing something that he’s not happy with he stopped. It’s not worth wrecking your life or health for. His catalog is great from beginning to end. But he’s not dead yet ... Maybe this will one day be known as the long break he took between albums!
What a greedy vulgar, consumerist mentality, to have to apply to an artist. why need he create more, in order to make us happy? he's done more than enough for crap's sake! there is a gentle poetic beauty, to artistic human finality in human endeavor.
brainsareus ? Or you could read what I wrote.
Very, very, very difficult not to love this guy. I'm a guitar man, so there's an inherent distance but this guy has brought me to different kind of tears more than once. In other words, he's ok!
Sing us a song your the Piano man!
Billy Joel's songs are timeless!! Songs of my generation. Everytime I hear one of his songs, it takes me back in time. Its like visiting an old friend. 💙🎼Thanks for the music Billy!
I really am so happy I saw this video. I loved Billy Joel when I was in 8th grade through the end of high school. I knew all of his songs by heart. Then when he went astray, I started to doubt why I liked him? Now, after watching this insightful video I realize he is human, just like you and me. Love you Billy Joel!
a legend , have always loved his music
Billy Joel is so talented! He definitely is one of my favorites!
I wish I was alive when his original songs like Piano Man, Movin Out, Zanzibar, Vienna, and Just the Way You Are came out because those are some of my favorite songs in existence.
Every time I wanna see him perform I’m always underway!
Saw Billy in Dublin couple of weeks ago and then back in the 90s with Elton, amazing both times
