Not at all. The mavic mini is way noisier then the Mavic pro. My neighbours had it and it has LOTZ of noise. My friend has a mavic pro and not too much ossound
I think you are all missing the point! The mavic mini fits in the market perfectly! it's not aimed at professional photographers they already have drones for that. it's aimed toward people who just want a very portable easy to use drone to take pictures and videos and share them to social media ie Facebook & Instagram, there is no need for it to take 4k videos as 90% of the footage will only be viewed on mobile phones. Why would somebody buy a drone that's 4 times the price of the mini 4 times the size and 4 times the weight just to have a drone that they are just going to take pictures and videos that the have no idea how to edit etc. You can tell this with how they have designed the new dji fly app where you can upload the footage directly from your phone. There is a massive gap in the market for a drone like this and dji will sell millions of these units. FACT

Here is the best thing about mavic mini: it shows how much dji will improve the mavic air 2 or whatever it ll be called. My wishlist: less and lower pitched noise along with Ocusync level of connection. A better battery life will happen anyway so no need to mention that.
That is a fair point. For RUclips and most amateur drone pilots the Mavic Mini will be an amazing option. The biggest differences are the quality of the footage (RAW+4K) and wind resistance? You know that battery is going down fast with with any kind of wind.

In the U.S if you’re Part 107 Certified you have to register all your UAV anyway. Also wether you fly for a hobby or professionally you have to follow all of the same FAA regulations a Mavic Air would except Hobbiest save $5 not having to register the Mini. But...I think this drone is MUCH better for Canadians who now have the strictest rules

Also if you want the 30 minutes flight time, that battery will take the weight over 250g, even if you use the small battery (only 18 min flight time) if you add an sd card and a sticker you are over weight. If you add the prop guards, then you're over weight. Also, being so small visual line of sight will be around 200m, a useless product aimed at gathering money for DJI and nothing else
@@SouthpawBluesman No that is not true, the small battery makes it 199 grams which is only made for Japan. It has 1100 mAh. Europe and US come with the bigger battery which lasts for 30 minutes, it makes it 249 grams.

This is spot on. I have a Mavic Air and I’ve been tempted before to look at other options after my history of the OG Phantom, Phantom 2, Mavic Pro etc but I’ve never been disappointed with the footage or experience on my Air.
There should not be the question of quality on photos and video on Air. The mini is for casual users to share media to app like fb, insta and easy to carry and also 249g means users are not required to register under aviation law.

If you talk about travelling - Mavic air have gestures, group selfie, tracking so you not need take controller for quick shots on the road. Even you not need smartphone.
Seriously considering getting the Mini as an upgrade from my Spark. The battery life and price are what does it. $800AUD for the Mini as compared to $1600AUD for the Air is a big deal for me, and I'm only going to be using it for RUclips. And half an hour battery life? Definitely worth it.
Good comparison, but the mavic air belong the best for it's category ( for professionals it's a good size alternative and for entertainment it's the best device ) there is no debate about.
For traveling, I agree smaller is better, but I think Mavic Mini does not have crash avoiding sensors like Mavic air (front and back). I gave up on DJI since they forced firmware upgrade on my P4 (won't let me use DJI app unless I update firmware), and failed ruing the firmware update. DJI said I have to pay to fix the failed firmware - I only flew 5x and the P4 was working fine until forced firmware update that failed.
Yeah, #1, if it can’t do 4K, that’s an automatic no for anyone who wants to use this even semi-professionally. I shoot mostly in 4K and am requested to shoot in 4K. And the higher MBPS quality is huge. Only get this drone if you are a hobbyist or for personal use. It still looks great, but no 4K is a deal breaker.
The other benefit of the mini it could charge the battery while on the go using the battery hub right? =D I have an Air.. If I get the mini what will I do with the Air T___T
Idk about you but I'll fly both! Air for those better quality vids, storage and megabits, while the mini is for those tight corners and tight spaced shots with no regulation restrictions to fly.

What is also important to me, Mini is not so noisy and you can charge its battery with the power bank using two- way charging hub. Charging battery in a backpack and flying your drone at the same time is a big advantage when you travel.
The mini price and quality video is great for personal use, if you have a good drone already ie Anafi the mavic mini is great to just run with all over town it’s not for pros it’s the step up from the spark users and the spark image looked great...I think it’s a winner I have the Tello I want to replace it as my new small drone.
I am choosing the Mavic mini because of the battery life because I don’t want to start getting my video shot and then have to land and change the battery

Can you make a video on birds vs Mavic mini? Esp, eagles. Eagles have tried attacking my drone many times and I had to call it back. Would like to know if they'll really snatch or attack it.
What about the flying distance? I heard somewhere that the mavic mini has problems with flying over 30m in big cities with a lot of wifi interruptions. Is it true? If positive, that is a big problem in my case...
pietrek_ bwa that’s a tricky question because if you mean flying around and in between high rises that are densely stacked, that’s different than flying around cities with a lot of wifi but has lower buildings. Occusync will always be better than wifi and neither the air nor mini have occusync so I expect equal performance from them. In Atlanta I have gotten up to a mile out in the city without disconnecting and that is straight out above trees and buildings. I don’t typically find the need to fly further away. The mavic air is better than the mini. Hence the price difference. But it’s photos are slightly less sharp than the mavic one. If you plan to fly mostly in and around cities I would recommend either the mavic 1 or mavic 2 zoom. I would opt for the first mavic because it has portrait mode which is really good for photos of buildings. Just my 2 cents
You also forgot a few huge points for the mini when it comes to charging, 1 point : you can charge the battery with a regular usb cable straight in the drone (powerbank). 1 point: you can charge the battery pack with 3 slots with a regular powerbank
We already know who wins, mavic mini for the battery (extra 10 mins flight time) vs the air. But camera quality and able to change video settings and 4k plus 100mbps. And more features the air takes the crown. But for a newbie or a drone owner just want to enjoyed flying for a long time the mavic mini wins

100mbps @ 4k vs 40mbps @ 2.7k is a lot. The youtube argument is not the best because if something is captured in native in higher quality, when its compressed in youtube its still better. Air does raw photos too, not sure if mini does. Most people even pros deply their videos via youtube. You generally need higher quality bit rate in drones to capture things like trees, grass, foliage, and not having a 4k device going into 2020 is not good. To put this into perspective, go pro 3+ from 6+ years I had on my phantom 2 was doing 2.7k at 60 MBPS. So my phantom 2 drone from 2013 would get better video than you guys will get in 2020? It still a great drone and plenty good enough for a lot of people, but when you consider the images and videos you capture could last a life time, don't you want to make sure that you're actually capturing with a decent quality? I would rather buy a second hand mavic air. I been using my spark for 2 years and its been flawless. DJI make good drones these days. Don't be afraid of buying a good second hand one. Its great drone, but at this stage in my drone life, I won't touch anything less than 100mbps.
I just got my pilot drone license (basically burocratic stuff, the exams are a joke) and I'll get this as my first ever drone. I was looking into something cheap I could use to practice, and living in a city as I do, this drone is perfect to train without risking getting caught by authorities or having to deal with permissions. Also size is perfect to take pictures or videos with my gf when we travel around.

Good comparison, mostly balanced. It will be interesting to see if laws change with all the hype of this drone. i have the Mavic Air and could use that little sub 250g caveat. I think the mavic mini would provide all i need in that niche. That said a sub 250g FPV cinewoop drone might be where i go.
Well, less weight doesn't mean it's better as it can't resist stronger winds like the mavic air does (Would be cool to test it, just be careful if you will) Also in most of the world there's a limit on KG, barely any countries that limit you on grams. Price is obvious, mavic mini has less stuff compared to the air It's kinda like comparing a 5KG washing machine to a 10KG one Both of these drones have been made for completely different audiences In the end like you've said it's the user's choice to decide, it's just unfair that they both got 8-8, it's like the video was made to make the mavic mini look better, but it has major downsides, which people might not understand if they get the mini over the air or the air over the mini.
The main issue for me to prefer Mavic Air is the sensors. Imagine when you lose visuals of the drone [which happens a lot] and give "Return To Home" and without sensors it can just bump in to a tree or a building and you lose the entire drone. The RAW photoshoot is another major difference not addressed in the video, which Mavic Mini does not have.
I'll tell you what: I have already ordered the Mavic Air Combo today, a few moments in fact before watching your video comparison between it and the Mavic Mini. In fact, when I started watching your comparison video, I was afraid to have been made the wrong choice by ordering the Mavic Air. However, I apparently haven't, and that's because the Air is the better drone in every category except the flight time and the weight. More importantly, with the Air you get more sensors preventing you from crashing, a higher video resolution and quality, a better slo-mo, and so on. Anyway, thank you a lot for making me confident with my purchase, and keep up the good work!
There a very important point that you missed in your review that for me is very important. The noise it makes and this point goes for the Mini. I have pre ordered the Mini instead of the Air mostly because of the weight and noise (I find the noise of the Air very annoying).
I’ve had the mavic mini for 5 days. Decided to send it back and got a used mavic air for a little bit more. The mini is very susceptible to fly always because of the wind. It just isn’t powerful enough

Who needs RAW format? Most of people don't even know what is that! Mini was designed for general people like me, who like to take unprofessional videos like on the phones. If RAW is so important thing for you, just buy Mavic 2 Pro. I already own M2P, but I don't use it for editing and professional purpose, so I never use even 4k resolution, not to mention RAW

No SDK for the Mini, so can't even fly it with waypoints.

I miss on Mini front lights(Air have two red led),they could give it instead of fake front sensors :o)
Subo keep in mind they had to cut a lot for the weight. Don’t think you can add 2 lights for ledd than a gram weight

The mini price and quality video is great for personal use, if you have a good drone already ie Anafi the mavic mini is great to just run with all over town it’s not for pros it’s the step up from the spark users and the spark image looked great...I think it’s a winner I have the Tello I want to replace it as my new small drone.
Just got my mini today, been doing some research contemplating if I should spend the little extra and just get the air, what y’all think.
I am choosing the Mavic mini because of the battery life because I don’t want to start getting my video shot and then have to land and change the battery

Jarrett Williams I ordered the fly combo edition. I ordered it on 6 November and on the website it was written that it takes 20 to 25 days for delivery. I am still waiting
i miss Girona! was there 4 years ago! great video... though some people are saying the Mavic Mini's video is a tad sharper than the Air's even if it has less mbps. is that right? or Air still has better video quality?
A huge point that was not brought up was that the Mavic Air shoots RAW photos and the Mavic mini does not.

Can you make a video on birds vs Mavic mini? Esp, eagles. Eagles have tried attacking my drone many times and I had to call it back. Would like to know if they'll really snatch or attack it.

What about the flying distance? I heard somewhere that the mavic mini has problems with flying over 30m in big cities with a lot of wifi interruptions. Is it true? If positive, that is a big problem in my case...
pietrek_ bwa this only happens if you leave the connection frequency in auto. If you select a channel manually, at least for me, it goes away

pietrek_ bwa that’s a tricky question because if you mean flying around and in between high rises that are densely stacked, that’s different than flying around cities with a lot of wifi but has lower buildings.
Occusync will always be better than wifi and neither the air nor mini have occusync so I expect equal performance from them.
In Atlanta I have gotten up to a mile out in the city without disconnecting and that is straight out above trees and buildings. I don’t typically find the need to fly further away.
The mavic air is better than the mini. Hence the price difference. But it’s photos are slightly less sharp than the mavic one. If you plan to fly mostly in and around cities I would recommend either the mavic 1 or mavic 2 zoom. I would opt for the first mavic because it has portrait mode which is really good for photos of buildings. Just my 2 cents
Just bought a spark two weeks ago.. So amazing for the mini flight times.. Hmm.. 3 axis.. 2.7k..
You also forgot a few huge points for the mini when it comes to charging, 1 point : you can charge the battery with a regular usb cable straight in the drone (powerbank). 1 point: you can charge the battery pack with 3 slots with a regular powerbank
A big negative for the mini is that DJI goggles are not supported - even with a cable. The cut-down app also supports far fewer features.

We already know who wins, mavic mini for the battery (extra 10 mins flight time) vs the air. But camera quality and able to change video settings and 4k plus 100mbps. And more features the air takes the crown. But for a newbie or a drone owner just want to enjoyed flying for a long time the mavic mini wins

Not really a tie. The options you can do with a Air is much more, example follow mode. Mini is still not a bad drone. But this is not really a tie.
The mavic air has Wifi connection not Osync. How about the Mini? how ist the remote connected?

100mbps @ 4k vs 40mbps @ 2.7k is a lot.
The youtube argument is not the best because if something is captured in native in higher quality, when its compressed in youtube its still better.
Air does raw photos too, not sure if mini does. Most people even pros deply their videos via youtube.
You generally need higher quality bit rate in drones to capture things like trees, grass, foliage, and not having a 4k device going into 2020 is not good.
To put this into perspective, go pro 3+ from 6+ years I had on my phantom 2 was doing 2.7k at 60 MBPS. So my phantom 2 drone from 2013 would get better video than you guys will get in 2020?
It still a great drone and plenty good enough for a lot of people, but when you consider the images and videos you capture could last a life time, don't you want to make sure that you're actually capturing with a decent quality?
I would rather buy a second hand mavic air. I been using my spark for 2 years and its been flawless. DJI make good drones these days.

Its great drone, but at this stage in my drone life, I won't touch anything less than 100mbps.

A better pair is the mavic pro or mavic 2 pro and a mini

I just got my pilot drone license (basically burocratic stuff, the exams are a joke) and I'll get this as my first ever drone. I was looking into something cheap I could use to practice, and living in a city as I do, this drone is perfect to train without risking getting caught by authorities or having to deal with permissions.
Also size is perfect to take pictures or videos with my gf when we travel around.

Good comparison, mostly balanced. It will be interesting to see if laws change with all the hype of this drone. i have the Mavic Air and could use that little sub 250g caveat. I think the mavic mini would provide all i need in that niche. That said a sub 250g FPV cinewoop drone might be where i go.
Well, less weight doesn't mean it's better as it can't resist stronger winds like the mavic air does (Would be cool to test it, just be careful if you will)
Also in most of the world there's a limit on KG, barely any countries that limit you on grams. Price is obvious, mavic mini has less stuff compared to the air
It's kinda like comparing a 5KG washing machine to a 10KG one
Both of these drones have been made for completely different audiences
In the end like you've said it's the user's choice to decide, it's just unfair that they both got 8-8, it's like the video was made to make the mavic mini look better, but it has major downsides, which people might not understand if they get the mini over the air or the air over the mini.

i was looking for this comparison for a while. amazing video!
The main issue for me to prefer Mavic Air is the sensors. Imagine when you lose visuals of the drone [which happens a lot] and give "Return To Home" and without sensors it can just bump in to a tree or a building and you lose the entire drone.
The RAW photoshoot is another major difference not addressed in the video, which Mavic Mini does not have.
I saw some RUclips videos, with those anti collision sensors the drone just stop around trees and not moving till battery finish. So how?
I'll tell you what: I have already ordered the Mavic Air Combo today, a few moments in fact before watching your video comparison between it and the Mavic Mini.
In fact, when I started watching your comparison video, I was afraid to have been made the wrong choice by ordering the Mavic Air. However, I apparently haven't, and that's because the Air is the better drone in every category except the flight time and the weight.
More importantly, with the Air you get more sensors preventing you from crashing, a higher video resolution and quality, a better slo-mo, and so on.
Anyway, thank you a lot for making me confident with my purchase, and keep up the good work!

There a very important point that you missed in your review that for me is very important. The noise it makes and this point goes for the Mini. I have pre ordered the Mini instead of the Air mostly because of the weight and noise (I find the noise of the Air very annoying).

I’ve had the mavic mini for 5 days. Decided to send it back and got a used mavic air for a little bit more. The mini is very susceptible to fly always because of the wind. It just isn’t powerful enough

Who needs RAW format? Most of people don't even know what is that! Mini was designed for general people like me, who like to take unprofessional videos like on the phones. If RAW is so important thing for you, just buy Mavic 2 Pro. I already own M2P, but I don't use it for editing and professional purpose, so I never use even 4k resolution, not to mention RAW
