Attitude Mode Hack on the DJI Mavic Mini
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 фев 2025
- The DJI Mavic Mini currently does not have a way to disable the bottom vision positioning sensors in the app like some of their other drones. Now why would I want to disable it? If you ever tried flying in close quarters above objects or furniture, the sensors will automatically engage and lift the Mavic Mini up. This quick movement does not look good in the footage, and can take away from the close proximity angles you want to achieve for a move cinematic and dynamic shot. While I was testing out the new PGYTECH propeller guards, I wanted to see if this little hack might work in disabling the Vision Sensors. Check out the video now.

Great job making a 10 second solution a 10 minute at one second video.
"I will real quick tell you about this hack". IN 10 MINUTES -_-.
Tape. The answer is tape.
Lmao he hearts every comment
Actually, there’s a ton of good information here. I’m an experienced pilot, and still learn and understand these concepts better with presentations like this.
RUclips monitization dude..who cares
I wonder how much money he made for this extended commercial for "tape."
Good job dude!
Bought mine on friday, can't wait for it to be delivered.
Thank you so much for these great videos !
They are so informative and a joy to watch!
Xirl Xiller if you bought the flight combo from DJI, it won’t get shipped before 20-25 days... when the regular drone ships within a few days 🤔kinda sucks.
I had a feeling from the start of this video that tape was going to be your solution
Speed Racer same
@@BlackGold_28 I think you may be the one with the attitude. I appreciate these videos, and don't forget you have a scrubber, or fast forward.
Duct tape, a hammer, and bailing wire. It's all you'll ever need.
@@gamebuzz917 You forgot WD-40.
well what else would it be? lol
You have a really nice home.
"Stay on target" - Star Wars "Please maintain situational awareness" - Ad Astra
WASN'T THAT THE PURPOSE OF THE VIDEO LOL, THAT ALL THEIR STUFF IS FROM CRATE AND BARREL LOL
Glad someone did this video, nearly crashed my mini when flying threw open roof trusses and it suddenly shot up.. hope DJI bring out an option to disable the sensors in flight
This is exactly how I broke my drone in October, flew it in-between a mezzanine fence... it shot up and hit the middle beam above it! First day I had it... Do stupid things win stupid prizes. Not sure why or how but DJI Netherlands fixed it for free (£100 quoted!).
Great video.
The Mavics had no attitude mode selectable.
This is a shame because the users can not practice to fly attitude mode for training.
I like that the Phantom has it.
Many flies away on Mavics and other DJI drones happen because the user experience it with some wind and never trained before.
totally irrelenlvant comment but ur living room has such a nice color scheme!! also, that Xmas tree is so nice!
Thanks Young
Young360 love is in the air 😝😜😝
Very helpful video. I don’t have the Mavic mini yet but it is on the way to me.
Great little hack dude. I was sure you were going to hit the coffee table 🤙🏼
I also bought the propeller guards the smaller ones though. Aldryn what a beautiful home and Christmas tree you had this past Christmas 🎄. 😎👍🏻✨ thank you for your videos you’ve taught me a lot✨
Cool cool cool! And thanks for explaining the drifting. And for including the inspiring fly-though footage. Ignore comments saying it was too long. It was just right.
I appreciate that!
Malaysia drone pilot here...thumbs up👍🏻👍🏻
Hi there ... awsmmmmmm video... you think by disabling the sensors I can also get rid of the altitude restriction in my country india ( can’t take the mini above 15 mtrs).....thanks in advance
Impressive stuff! Thank you for this hack. I’m sure it’ll come handy one of these days.
Wat they should do is have option to disable it but also have an option to how much lift you want if the sencers are on .. that would be pretty cool feature ( it may add some cool effect). Great vid mate.
after have disabled the bottom vision positioning sensors what happen when tha mini is landing? very usefull video, thanks.
Brilliant minds think alike, I was playing with that on a different drone. Great tip here.
Thanks
I also figured out that this works on the Tello. Makes it much smother. All the same cool tricks like getting closer to the ground. I was scared to try it on my Mavic Mini because on the M210 if you cover those sensors it just keep going up! :-(
Great again. Love all your tutorial videos
Thanks for the tip. Will come in handy i know.
Nice.. I'm a new drone pilot and still learning... You know🤔..😁 anyways I'm so glad I found your channel, so much good info thx a lot buddy.. keep up the great work..
I'm new to drones, Got the Mavic Mini as a starter drone and your videos have been so helpful. Keep up the good work! Do you have a recommendation on a phone/tablet holder that will let me keep my phone case on (iPhone XS Max with an otter box). Another thing to make that more difficult is I would love for this holder to fit in the Fly More Combo(FMC) Kit case unless you have a recommendation on another bag that can fold all the FMC kit stuff plus other accessories.
Greeting from Cyprus in Europe. Great video. Cheers
thanks sir! will try it with my mavic mini
I’m buying a Mini with the intent to fly through objects outside.
So I am surmising that it will behave the same way of increasing the height. But if there is gps lock, I’m assuming it can hold its position.
Seems like a good tip
If it’s camera use outside, I’d recommend an air, if it’s POV racing, I’d recommend a tello
The mini is quickly becoming one of my fave drones. Great when out with the kids and and want to catch some quick, cool footage.
So by covering the sensors would this would also prevent the problem of it wanting to land if flying low over water?
Pro Tip: Doing this on the Mini 2 will launch it right into the ceiling... learn from my derps.
Hi Aldryn Estacio, your tutors is are fantastic and I'm happy to watch them from Serbia.
10 second video made in 10 minutes. But thanks genius.
Thanks. Learned a lot. Like your style, clear instructions
Impressive. Thx. I would’ve thought the tape made it think there was something directly under it all the time and it’s just want to keep rising.
I tested in mini 2 and worked as you said. I don't know how to enable atti mode properly
Remember, you will have some ground effect if you fly very low. I fly a race quad but want a mini too :-)
Since the Mini is aimed at newbie pilots... while this hack probably ISN'T meant for newbies, can you elaborate on what "ground effects" are?
@@shaamaan it's a cushion of air from the props creating lift.
Essentially, it makes flying close to the ground bouncy.
@@jamespondy0 Thanks!
Thanks for the very useful tip for indoor shots
Bro I really recommend "GAFFERS TAPE" this leaves the sensors (and anything else you stick it to, free of any tape residue.
Don't think this is a good solution if you plan to fly too high (above hand catch limit). Experieced from the past in blocking the sensors made the drone thinking it's already too low and refuses to reduce altitude. When controls were pushed down to reduce it's height, it shut down it's motors in mid air causing the drone to fall off the sky instead of landing smoothly.
Not sure if it's bad luck that it only happens to me but just wanted to share.
Well thank you I just purchased this! I’m doing a review on my YT channel soon! Techmaniac that video was 🔥 you deserve 1 millions subs
Good day sir . In asking what the best set up to mavic mini setting to city ? And setting for travel like Beach .
Nice! I was wondering if tape over the sensors would work that way. Fun to put in FPV mode and fly around the house... with prop guards of course!
That’s exactly how you turn it into a cheap $50 drone. Drifting because of no sensors and no gimbal
Super useful in real estate walkthrough filming. Let's hope DJI doesn't come with an antidote for the little tape hack ! Good Job !
As a novice I’m learning things I guess I should really steer clear of but of course now I’ve seen it, I can’t really ignore it now can I.? So that said, it’ll be stored for future reference, thanks so much for your hack.
Super simple hack! I was hoping I could try some indoor cinematic shots.
Very Cool! And those wing guards are amazing for indoor flights and tight outdoor space flying
even my $120 SJRCX5 has an atti mode switch on the controller - somehow I knew a piece of tape would fix it lol I would use atti mode if my GPS on my SJRCX5 would drop out and start toilet bowling. Tonight I lost control of the Mini with low GPS [4-5 sats] and it crashed in to a tree - undamaged thankfully. But I am concerned about where the GPS kicks over to Atti - it seems automated but not before the bird loses control in low GPS mode if in a confined space
This is the second video where someone is calling this “hack” Atti mode, it is not… Atti mode is when the GPS is turned off and allows the drone to drift around with the wind or from any other external factors, like moving the sticks. All this does is disable the ground sensors, so if you were flying outside, the GPS will still lock onto satellites and keep the drone hovering in an approximate location. In true Atti mode, as soon as you let go of the sticks, the drone will continue moving, whether you want it to or not. I’m bummed that I haven’t been able to find any actual advice on how to fly in Atti mode on the Mini 2, because I’ve been using Atti on my Phantom 4 for several years.
Ian you haven't watched the video, either that or you fell asleep! In this video Aldryn fully explains the ATTI mode and demonstrates it. Indoors - no GPS signal so the flight mode drops to Downward Vision System using the underbody sensors. When he tapes over the sensors it goes into ATTI mode at 5:05.
The Mini 2 manual states: "The aircraft automatically changes to Attitude (ATTI) mode when the Downward Vision System is unavailable or disabled and when the GPS signal is weak or the compass experiences interference." Aldryn then goes on to demonstrate (at great length) how ATTI mode has no braking and is harder to control. He then demonstrates his flying master skills by flying the drone under the table in ATTI mode making it look easy. So yes, it is a hack, using a bit of tape over the ground sensors.
@@Toob41 yeah, unfortunately it only works indoors, and for my line of work, I need it for flying outside. As soon as the drone gets GPS signal, this “hack” becomes useless. I guess I’m just frustrated that DJI removed Atti mode from their later drone models because I use Atti mode on my Phantom 4 literally every single time I fly it, it’s a big part of the work that I do and I’ve been using it ever since the Phantom 4 series was released. I was hoping to find some kind of work around to be able to do that with the Mini 2 but I have yet to find anything that would work. It’s still a great drone and I love it for the price and convenience, but DJI let me down in this regard and I hate them for it. I don’t understand how they can’t/won’t add Atti mode into an Advanced settings menu somewhere within the app or even put it behind some kind of safety video before giving you the option to activate it.
The delay is quite a while when sensing to avoid obstacles.. Seems pointless as it would of already hit was it was heading towards..
Great hack dude. Thanks for the video
Thanks for this. Sadly one half hour too late. I was practicing pass thrus on a jungle gym and was doing great. My aim was true, but that sensor beat me and I broke a couple of blades, even though I was quick enough to try to toggle away. The sensor overrode that. My fault, not the drone's.....but still good to know. Thanks DJI for sending along some spares.
I have the DJI Mini 2, two questions, will this hack work on it? and will the "new" pause button on the Mini 2 Controller stop the drone or will it have no effect? Thanks !
i experienced also somwthing weird related to the sensors. if its too dark, the drone gets blind and cant hold position anymore exactly. even outside, i flkew yesterday in darkness, it was stable in the height, so above 2 meters (due to GPS satellites maybe), but close over ground it began to drift. so the sensors also need some light in order to work.
black and white cmos sensors are used for the vision systems, so yes they rely on contrast
Very nice video. Which template u using in your video to describe things? I like the art, I mean in 0:16 that describing add. Thank you.
Great info. Hope to understand more about dji mavic mini
Totely subbed! Great content!😃
Thank you for yr video,
there is no option like Mavic 2 Pro to off the sensor ?!
Regrads,
Is it possible to add a custom made mirror to those sensors to get them pointing forward? What happens to them? Can this be tried to make a rudimentary front collision sensor? Will it work?
If you were able to change the direction of the sensors it would cause it to reach a wall and fly up until it moves away from the wall or crashes into it. The only way I could see it working would be if you were able to reprogram it to decrease the motor speed of the back causing it to lean back away from the object.
Aldryn, love the tech reviews! i am such a better drone pilot because of your tutorials!
🙏🙏
Great tip, but how do you land it with the gaffer ?
Nice video. For a sec I thought that was a viva la dirt league shirt.
Nice driving😀
Wonder if it could do that with partial blocking, like cover the prox semsors but not the camera depending what you want to so?
Nice explanation and demo - thanks!
Great tip sir
It’s really too bad though we can’t have the best of both worlds w having auto stabilization and disabling bottom sensor
Nice video Aldryn.
Love your videos Aldryn! Great Tips!
It seems like it has a 1 second delay after the sensors detect the object below. I would assume that it would rise above it once it’s right on top of the object. Just an observation. I might be mistaken.
Drone Syndrome yip, no doubt about it..... which is pretty poor. The sensors are supposed to cover an area reader than the device footprint, so I can’t think of any reason why this would be acceptable.
Great video. Thanks for the information.
Video highlightS:
Put Gaffers tape on the sensors to disable the sensors and this turns the drone into atti mode
Great summary for someone who understand all of that. Most don’t, hence the video.
@Lon Denard lol brads not even tall enough to smack me
Only question I have is if those sensors are covered with tape does this effect when I am like 100 or more feet in the air? what is the range those sensors actually start working?
I was wondering.. how did you land your mini with blinded sensors?
Does your mavic mini also fall with propellar gaurds with low battery
Mine keeps going down once battwry reaches around 30
I have Dji Mini 2 , what happens if Ifit extra obstacle sensor in my dji mini 2 drone
🔴🔴🔴nice hack! You did exactly what I was thinking 😂😂!🔴🔴🔴
Cool trick! ⚽️🦅🤩
Thx for the hack! :-) Nice to know it works.
Cool info, I will practice a bit mor and add the cage for sure before I tape the sensors. I like the gaff tape, that should keep things clean. Any difference between that cage and the DJI flymore cage that came with it?
It would be heavier. It covers the whole to part.
Johan Smit you would initially think so but then it would matter what it is made of and the weight of said materials
@@jasonlancia75 O yes. I actually wanted to wright "It might be heavier". I definitely though of it while typing and I did consider not to write that, but I thought that the obvious thing would be that it would be heavier. Yes, it depends on the material and its density.
Thanks for this awesome hack I’m new to DJI Mavic mini!!!
How do you land with the tape on? I mean, it's probably easy to get it to touch the ground, but how do you then turn off the motors?
Does the mini's max height setting use the visual sensors to adjust while flying around steep hills? For example, if I set max height at 400 feet, then fly at 400 feet up then travel up a mountain, is the drone able to also go higher based on its AGL, not the controllers location?
Yes it will
No, it uses the barometer and measures the pressure difference compared to the take-off point. So altitude is measured with the barometer, which means the max height limit is based on the take-off point.
for the combo, is the 3rd batray the same as the capacity ?? because what i read there are 2600 mah, 2400 mah and 1100 mah is that right
Sir can you help me...mavic mini showing error code 30087.. pitch angle too large. What should i do?
Very nice tips!
Thanks!
Hello, very useful videos, thank you. I’ve been watching a lot as considering the mini. Just one query, you demonstrate how this drifts due to covering up the sensors but does it still drift outside once it can see GPS?
How do you land with the tape on? Do you still hold down the stick?
Hmmm taping up the vision sensors is a good idea ? Is your prop guard made by DJI? I just wondered why it’s flat on top when mine I higher at the front I guess that helps when flying through tables and other narrow obstacles with the sensors covered, also have you noticed the noise of the props is considerably reduced with prop guards on
With that cage on any wind will blow it away with or without the sensor taped. I tested the Mavic Mini with the 360 prop guards on in some moderate wind and I nearly lost it, it's almost uncontrollable.
Prob guards are for indoor use
@@FlytPath this might be highlighted for these aftermarket ones but definitely not for the ones that come in the fly more combo. A beginner buys the pack, realises there's no obstacle avoidance so puts on the prop guards for safety and takes it outside.
I tried hacking my Mavic Mini into ATTI mode by blocking the GPS module with aluminum foil . The MM went into "OPTI" mode instead. Looks like I'm going have to also block the optical sensor. Thanks for testing that out .
canadianstarman hey I tried almost a 1cm of aluminum foil and couldn't block the GPS the mavic mini still got eight satellites. My question is were you able to block the GPS and if so please tell me how. Thank you
Nice one sir👌
Will u be doing a review on the new mini bag ?
If I can get my hands on it.
I am so excited to get the DJI Mavic Mini! Appreciate the time and effort for you to bring content! I have one question about the remote and phones. Does the remote hold phones in cases? I have a Samsung Note 10 and was wondering if I have to take off my phone case to sit in the remote? Thanks for being awesome with the content.
the Note 10 will be a VERY tight fit, even without the case.
My iPhone 8S fits including a fat rubber case
DJI recently updated their app to not support a altitude of more than 15 meters in India. If we hide the sensors on the bottom, will landing the drone be an issue? Will the drone still be able to find it’s way back home ?
What about if you cover only one of the two sensors?
So what about this from the FAA: "•Small unmanned aircraft may not operate over any persons not directly participating in the operation, not under a covered structure, and not inside a covered stationary vehicle." Am I breaking the law by flying indoors? Indoors is a covered structure. And why can I fly inside a vehicle when it's moving, but not if stationary?
Really cool tip. Thanks.
Np
Great hack by the way. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent tutorial.
Love the Video & Info FAM
Good video especially considering the point was to do 10 sec fix and demo for 10min
I for real about that. It takes skills to make 10sec into 10min if that makes sense:)
Thks a lot!Can u do one with sport mode plz
Thank you. Great works. Appreciate your efforts. Keeping winning!
That is one super high tech solution
Are the sensors down on the bottom of the Mavic mini are same as sensors on the tello or they’re the upgraded ones I doubt that
Cause ryze tello can actually perform same flight stability indoors with good lighting condition
