Voigtlander is cine lens. People buy voigtlander lenses mainly because they are softer than photo lenses, and this is very good for cinematic videos. For those photo lenses, you need to buy all kinds of black pro mist or other strong diffusion filters to remove that sharpness. So what's the goal? sharpness is better better for what? I agree that it is better for photos, but not for artistic videos. after f1.4 I wish the voigtlander lenses were even softer :)
inifinity focus. There were a handful of test that I did which show the same reaults sadly. Also dozen of reviews from owners which also complained about it.
@@theCameraVille It's a soft lens at wide apertures, that is well known. But it looked sharper in the very close foreground for some reason. Infinity focus with the Voigtlanders generally means nothing is in focus. Even for stars I focus quite a bit before the inifinity stop mine.
@@costinio3983 Yup, as mentioned, as long as you are close to you subject, you should be good to take advantage of the .95. Also the video section is the close up part. (under 3 feet away) You will get more blurry bits like zack synder with voitglander. I wish it just had more at inifinity.
I bought the Laowa 7.5 f2 purely because it’s the widest rectilinear MFT lens and would be very useful for Interior shots and real estate then I noticed that the Laowa 10 f2 was released and bought it straight away!
I was very impress with the 10mm F2. I was thinking in my test, if it was a hair softer than the competition, then I would still be okay with it. I cant believe it did so well and its so compact.
@@theCameraVille and also I prefer the Exif connection because the Aperture ring is fiddly on the 7.5mm so it is actually better to control Aperture in camera
Nice to see you doing MFT! Yes, MFT fast zooms are generally sharper at 10 and 12 mm than the primes. This seems weird but the pro zooms are really fantastic, and expensive, lenses. This 10/2, being this sharp and so small with electronic contacts for aperature control and $400, even though it's MF is very tempting.
Yea, this test was very mind boggling when I started it. I was thinking before hand, Laowa maybe slightly softer than the competition, which would be acceptable at the price of $400. I was oddly shocked to see it was just as sharp as the others and then some. Make sure if you do buy a lens, you slap on that lens hood + add a filter for the out doors, either than that, its a solid lens. I cant believe its only $400. It felt like I was carrying nothing but the body when I took it around for a personal spin.
Throughout the video i was stunned by the colours of Leica, I really wanted to hate Leica but i just couldn't. Laowa was ok, definitely wouldn't prefer it to Leica, but compared to voigtlander, maybe.I mean what i would say voigtlander excels at is the ergonomics, the focus ring size etc. Interesting comparison nonetheless.
Yup, Leica was very well saturated with the colors. If they just get the corner slightly more sharpen in F2 and up, it would been a well rounded lens, since users are paying a ton. Voigt, it was only best if you get really near your subject and shooting at .95. The ergo was very nice as you mentioned. Looks like a beastly designed lens. I was shock to see how soft it was for long distance shots. I was even more shock to see other users review on the softness issue. Laowa was my pick since it was very affordable. I thought before the test maybe it will be a hair softer verus competition, which would be fine due to the price tag. Gosh, just a few tweeks here and there, its a sharp little lens.
@@theCameraVille Agreed on everything, but going on the Leica mount means that you are willing to pay for it. Voigtlander at this point I'm confident that they care for the ergonomics and the feeling of shooting rather than the glass, that's probably their demographic. Leowa is value for money compared to the rest, but at this point maybe going for a different system is a better idea. Of course people might need a quick 10mm pick and that's the best option without going bankrupt.A quality option not just a cheap alternative.
can I use this Laowa 9mm lens in my EF camera? I have investigated and there are no converters and they have told me that there is no way, but how is it possible!? 😳
The FoV of the Voigtländer is close to the Leica than the Laowa. Is the Voigtländer really 10.5 mm? Great comparison. I'm using the Laowa 7.5 for some years now and am tempted by the edge to edge sharpness of the 10mm. The 7.5 doesn't really have this although it is a great lens.
Yup, if you are shooting close, and want that bokah, the Voigtlander is the way to go. I will say the Laowa did present a ton of bang for the buck. I had a lot of fun with that lens. The Leica was fun but gosh, I wish it had sharper edges but it is very pricy.
Hello and tnx for your video. I´m filming (vlogging) abandoned places in dark conditions and have a Kit lens on my Gh5 12-60. I need a good lowlight Lens and good focus.. Do you recommend the Leica 12mm F1.4? I also wounder if it will be better do buy the 10-25mm f1.7 like "all in one" what some people say? Hope you can help me.
Vlogging and low light?7-14mm f2.8 is what I would buy. 12MM F1.4 is great but it will be zoom in your face. Its a 24mm basically. 10-25 1.7 will be heavy . That is a monster plus its 20mm . Im not sure how long your arm is actually. If you have long arms then sure, but other wise 7-14 range is great.
Too bad weren't able to test the Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 with its .79x GWC-1 wide-angle converter coming in at a 11mm f/2.5 WITH AF (125g total )... or the Olympus 12mm f/2.0.
Nope. Every 0.95 Voigtlander produces the best starburst effect in the m43 ecosystem. Though that small Laowa is excellent as well, actually I do prefer its starburst to Leica 12mm. Cheers
wow. you're actually covering M43 now. this is awesome!

Very good way in looking at another angle.
It seems to me the Voigtlander is focused very closely in the foreground in the first comparison?

Excited to see m43 . Awesome 😎😎👍
More to come. Thank Laowa. They made me revisit my m43 lol
That's quite amazing from Laowa, they are really coming on👍
Same here!. After this review, I am diving more into their catalog.

The voigtlander has a retro sawerli bokeh

I had the 12mm. Kinda regret getting rid of it. Also have the laowa 7.5. Great lens
Oh yea, it was fun with the leica. The AF was nice for photo. I sometimes forget I have a lens on my gh5 with the laowa. Just so compact and light.
