I went the other day to lax to film after one of your videos but i didnt found the spot of the planes you got. I m here on LA visiting son i figure to give it a try XD peace bro see u when i see you
Did you find you had to denoise a lot in low light with BMPCC 4K? I’m finding that anything that isn’t properly exposed or over exposed at 600 or lower needs NR. 1250 is supposed to be native but even at 1250 over exposed I need to noise reduce always especially due to the shadows. Now the grain is actually nice with the camera. But, if I want silk, it’s unavoidable. Am I doing something wrong?
This lens because of the crop factor on mft is like a 100mm f/1.9 so if you are using a full frame 100mm f/1.8 lens, the depth of field is marginaly the same. Had he used the lens on full frame then we would talk about truly f/0.95 depth of field
Man... I learn so much from your videos... I just picked up the BMPCC4K with the 42.5 LUMIX 1.2... taking it to Hong Kong tomorrow to break it in... Thanks man, keep up the amazing videos...
Have watched a good 100 film RUclipsrs in the past day while researching my next camera, this guy is by far the most enthusiastic/informational/artistic. Keep making content ASAP
Man, every single time. Spot on. I teach video to kids between 12 and 16, and your videos help me not only to explain them technical stuff but also creative ways to improve their creations. I know I say it everytime, but you are really awesome. Other thing is that I know you are a busy guy, so where the heck do you get the time to make this man? hehehe
been there. done that. bad idea. they can still run like once a week. just enough time for gras to grow between the tracks, and make it look completely unused.
Fun video. The CA at 5:17 is crazy. With most manual follow focuses, you can also set A-B stops. You could also have shot it on a shoulder rig, easy rig, or even hand held with a manual follow focus (or even more hard-core/pro by just grabbing the barrel)
What's really hard is shooting a closeup wide open on a 50mm or above with a photo lens that has a very short focus throw - like the 50mm Sigma Art. I will probably buy a follow focus with a 0.8 38T gear to slightly broaden the throw. Or would a wireless follow focus that can map the throw on a broader scale be a better option?
Amazing video! I am filming in low light settings as well and need the brightest camera system possible. What about using a 0.71X speed booster WITH a F0.95 lens? Would that be the brightest combo possible for the Blackmagic Pocket cameras?
I had to pause the video to say; I love that you said “kind of affordable...” when talking about the $599 lens. So many camera gear RUclipsrs act like $599 is a steal, smh 🤦🏻♂️
Yeah, i know how it is...I used to a 29-year-old camera guy with 1 camera and 1 lens and it wasn't that long ago. Ill try to do more videos with down to earth priced stuff--as a lot of what is super expensive can be done with much cheaper options and no one is the wiser.
I think it boils down to the professional's own situation... where finally advancing to a cycle of full-priced commissions allows for a larger budget, normalizing higher expenditures. The problem is that for most people who are just starting out and are literally scouring RUclips for any sort of direction, the idea of being in such a place is laughable. Heck, I even just got my first full time job editing videos and I still see mid-range gear as mostly inaccessible. But its still very useful information for when I do get there.
So many people get butt hurt about this topic. Most of the people calling gear like that "cheap" are only meaning that it's cheap relative to other camera gear. Especially down to earth people like Josh
Great, as always. I would add, instead of riding focus on closeups with the focus ring, just match your subject's body movements, by leaning forward or back slightly as needed. Quicker, and you never go the wrong direction.
Really appreciate you providing us this. Thank you. It’s fascinating and important info. But I gotta say it reminds me so much of the dreaded look of under exposed midday sunlight that you would get from 35MM film, it dwarfs any potential aesthetic that may have been discovered. It feels like screening the footage of the group in film school who fucked up all their exposures. Lol.
Thank you for the upload. Your videos have been massively helpful. I just got my hands on my Blackmagic Pocket ...4k and an SLR magic 25mm, .95. Using it made me realize how far I have to go as a good camera operator. I was not keeping things in focus well at all. Do you have any recommendation of r nice wide angle lenses for the BMPCC 4k?
Hi. I have a not related question! What video and pp profile setting you recommend for jewellery shot and food commercial? Your pp for night shoot is awesome
Hi congrats with your Chanel! I need an advice here which lenses to buy for the bmpcc4k? I am switching from Sony I shoot music videos thanks in advance Cheers
Half-life. In plain language - half of what I learn from your videos is about gear. No, that's wrong, a quarter maybe. Half is about the creative life, and it's incredibly valuable, thank you very much. The other quarter? Dunno. Age 77 and still creating and learning - yeah, you youngsters, life is what you make it at every age.
Question: I Josh, i would like understand which camera and lens do u use for shooting "studio b-roll" in your videos :) In this tutorial, what do u use? Thank u Man 🎬
@makeartnow Are you still going to be doing a video on the lenses you use? I'm about to be upgrading from the 6500 to BMPCC 4k and am needing advice on lenses. I see you are using the Canon 85mm 1.4, would you recommend anything else?
Yeah i know this was 2 years ago ....lol .... but i keep coming back to your viids :) Surprised you didnt use the Voigtlander Nokton 0.95 on the bmpcc4k Would of been perfect for this project with the moiré they produce! I feel they are slightly better then the Noktons
When there was only film, I found it hard enough to use an f1.2 lens. The depth of field is already so short. Using an SLR, I had enough light to manually focus. At the time, there was only the Canon rangefinder 50mm f.95 which didn't really seem to offer that much of an advantage since you are focusing through a rangefinder, not the lens. The lens also cut off nearly half of the rangefinder. I have a few f1.2 lenses, don't use them much. I prefer an f1.4 as my standard lens. Its sharper across the range.
How on Earth did you get such a crispy night shot with the Mavic air...? I have the Pro 2 and was flying it around a small town that was lit up, video was unusable and pictures were questionable...
Hi Josh, I understand that when you're adapting to MFT you can bypass the crop-factor typical with cold adapters using a speedbooster. For example, going from a Nikon F mount with a cold adaptor to Canon EF, then mounting that on a Viltrox EF-M2 x0.71 to a MFT body. Would love a video on this because the details are confusing me a little! Thank you from Tasmania
the laser auto-focus add-on thingy you showed us plus this lens equals super fast wide open footage with smartphone-like auto-focus, right? no? why-not? Lol
I have a doubt. The C70 has superb autofocus capabilities... There's a speedbooster for the C70... So if you use an f/1.2 autofocus lens, the booster will make it a f/0.95... So technically, you can have autofocus on a f/0.95 wich i think is awesome but haven't found a single video testing that!
Took a break at work just to watch your video . Thanks for doing the comparison with the Speedbooster. Now I wanna know using a full frame lens on a full frame camera vs on a camera with speedbooster which one is brighter ?
Cool :) I wonder how were you able to mount this lens on a booster and why you did not mention this because it is kind of a big deal. It is supposed to give you 1 stop of light more...
Or I am wrong and the Leica is on a regular adapter? BTW this Mitakon 50 0.95 from the end of the video is actually around T1.4. I have it and it is not a bad option.
Good eyes.....Leica is M mount, and it was adapted to PL from the TLS rehousing company ....so I was using a PL to metabones adapter to MFT. The metabones speedbooster won't work for this lens, not enough clearance. And when I tested the mitakon next to the stamped Noctilux T0.95 (albeit probably T0.97) it was neck and neck. There are tolerances that may account for t stop errors but a T stop of 1.4 seems hard to believe unless you have a defective lens. You might want to look into that. I wouldn't trust what people say on forums because 99% don't actually test. My next video has all these tests so stay tuned!!!
Hey, love your work. Did the video about the budget lenses ever come out? As a travel filmmaker id love to know your thoughts on the best lenses for the p4k... was looking at the canon 24-105 f/4 IS + maybe a wide prime? Or tokina 11-16

MAKE. ART. NOW. You got to try the Voigtländer 0.95 series 10.5mm 17.5mm 25mm 42.5mm
They even got their own look. And just cost 1k not 16k
Voigtländer Nokturna. I can send you a documentary with them at 0.95
8978 the 25mm is soft as hell through... recommend to get the 10 and go straight to 42.5 and skip the 25...

Agreed.
So you put a f0.95 full frame lens on mft camera and get equivalent of f2 in full frame? Which has less light on sensor as a nifty fifty? Why though?
0.95 x 2 of crop factor = F1.9 equivalent in full frame
More videos please. Thank you.
