    Really appreciate all the work you put in these videos. They're so entertaining, easy to watch, and honest. No dumb comments against one brand, no "just get more expensive lenses", only great advice and solid information. I'll definitely buy some of these lenses for my first camera, the Fujifilm XS-10. It's great to have channels like yours out there. Keep up the good work !

Update: after researching, and thanks to this video in particular, I’ve ordered three lenses from this extensive review. Thanks Mark! You’re my new favorite😊

    TTArtisans 27mm 2.8 here. As long as you are OK with heavy vignetting in the widest two stops, this lens is amazing. On the ZVE-10 it is very small and light so I am more likely to carry this camera on a whim and take a lot more photos.

  • @bobbymattina

    Thanks for going over all these! I've bought several budget lenses at your suggestion and you've never steered me wrong. One lens I'd add to this lineup: the 7artisans 35mm f1.4 for APS-C, which might be my favorite budget lens. It's under $70, has great bokeh, and is pretty sharp wide open. I don't have the TTartisan 35mm f1.4, so I don't know how it compares, but the 7artisans 35mm is my go to lens for low-light as well as walkaround photography when I want to get a bit tighter than my TTartisan 25mm f2.

I'm sure it must have taken a lot of time to prep, film and edit the video and we all appreciate how much work and passion you put into it! Always going the extra line.
    Off topic but do you have any advice/idea on where to look for an affordable fuji camera? I would like to switch from my dear old Sony a6000 to a fuji one, probably only in the market for a used Fuji since even those are still kind of expensive (relatively speaking ofc). Interesting summary as ever Mark. For talking head videos (shot across the depth of a desk) I'm assuming your 17mm Manual Focus is your main recommendation on APS-C. I recall it from your other videos. If I'd hoped to get an Auto Focus to help with other uses too, then would the Viltrox 20mm AF be the best alternative? The budget AF lenses don't seem to get shorter than that...? Or would the 20mm=30mm be too zoomed in on such a short range setup? Thinking in more detail my big desk is about 800mm deep (31.5 inches), with a human in chair being a bit further away. Hmm.
    Still trying to decide whether to start with a cheap used Sony (say rather old model 5100, 6000) at under £300/£350. The Black Friday fairies are trying to tempt me with original ZV-E10 at £499 new, when it retails used at around 440-494 from MPB.

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  25 дней назад +1

      Yea, hard to go past the 17mm f1.4. The 5100/6000 have great 1080 video, but the ZV-E10 gives you more future proof 4k footage.

    • @45KevinR
      @45KevinR 23 дня назад

      @@markwiemelsYeah, they're conspiring to empty my wallet.
      The ZVE-10 is remarkable at the sale price £499 body. We're not seeing all the lens deals offered on UK Amazon, though curiously the Viltrox 20mm 2.8 FE AF is cheap at £140. The TTaftisan 17mm 1.8 MF E is £139 (no discount).

    • @45KevinR
      @45KevinR 21 день назад

      @@markwiemels Noticed some other candidates in 16mm to 18mm AF/FF eg. from Samyang, etc but they're generally around £350, so a used Sigma 16mm APS-C is a similar price. And some call the Sigma the gold standard. A few people reviewed the Yongnuo 16mm AF APS-C and had it as a budget choice to the Sigma. It's also usually in the £250-350 price range. But just now I got offered stacked discounts on Yongnuo's own website that comes out at £149+postage. Intriguing.
      Have you ever looked at their lenses?

    With all the manual focus lenses you use, do you have any videos where you really go into detail about your techniques for getting sharp focus with a manual focus? I was fine with manual focus when I had old school SLR cameras with a prismatic focus reticle. But, I seem to have a hard time with just focus peaking.

      With chinese "cheap" manual lenses and with old vintage lenses you have a wide sample variation. Even with more modern lenses. I have three nifty fifty Canon EF STM lenses. One is bad, lack sharpness, and messy image. One is what you expect from the nifty fifty, and the last one is the best of the three.

After reading your comment, I tested the lens on the chart, and sure enough! VERY sharp in the center, wide open! Thanks so much for correcting this. Why no Samyang/Rokinon? They are optically better than any of these artisans and stars at pretty much the same price point

      The price point cut off was $200. Their lenses are mostly over that.

    39:16 - I both like Oreos and think this lens is cool. Just don’t have it around when eating real Oreo or you might have a bad time 😂

    Hi Mark, this was a nice overview of these lenses in context of whats available, with so many options things gets confusing fast! I have a couple of the lenses on the list and agree with your assessment!

    It's funny to me how pro photographers get obsessed with all the details. I've only been into photography for about 3 months though and I almost got into APSC cameras too but decided to go full frame for digital video instead and get an Epson V850 scanner for 35mm and up to potentially 8x10 analog photography
    So I'm getting an Olympus Pen FT (35mm half frame), Nikon F5 (35mm full frame) and a Nikon Z6 ii (4K digital video). With adapters I can use Nikon AF-S lenses with all of these cameras. I'm so exited about it!

    The OREO lens is so much fun. It brought me back doing street photography for one night just for the fun of playing with it. Crazy how low quality sometimes stimulates you more than top tier gear.
