Seriously, it looks like a common case of having absolutely no self awareness and not realizing your own personal view, especially as a child, was probably not very accurate, especially again regarding political and religious nuances around the world. We also didn't have the Internet to share our voices. It's amazing how blind these people are to the reality around them.

And additionally: empathy means, that it is sufficient if I see religion hurting others to care. And even when religion does not hurt me currently, as I live in a pretty comfortable country, I see it hurt others all the time.
And at that point we have not spoken about the fact, that studies have shown that religiouse people have a tendency to show more behaviours and ideas, that are destructive for modern societies, like not sharing with others, wanting harsh punishments, being less forgiving, xenophobia etc.

A popular tactic. Invent an unflattering explanation for others' hostility so that you don't have to own up to your own behavior.
Even when I was Roman Catholic, I knew better than to pull this cr@p. Internally, I accepted that I was imposing on others, but I considered that saving souls and unborn children was a very good reason. Most Evangelicals, however, seem unwilling to accept that there could be *_any_* negative consequences to their behavior, which may be why they're still Christian and i am not. They refuse to see any need to scrutinize the veracity of their claims, so, as long as these claims address their petty emotional needs, they'll go on believing.

I generally roll my eyes at people like this, but this video made me angry. If religion helps people feel better about themselves or the world, that's great. I'm glad if religion helps people have a good life. But it was religion that made my best friend almost kill herself because religion taught her that she was a monster for being trans. It was religion that taught me that women's highest purpose is to be a wife and mother. The fact that I wasn't a wife or a mother by my early 30s made me think that I was somehow broken and undeserving. I knew my chances would get smaller as I got older, and I knew that I would be judged by others in my religion by this, so I felt worthless. The only reason I didn't kill myself was because I believed that I would be just as miserable in the afterlife. Religion hurt me. It hurt my friends. It hurt my relatives. Religious-based abortion bans are literally killing people. This is why atheists/agnostics aren't willing to let religious people just live their lives. Their beliefs are causing actual harm to others around them. This man has no right whatever to act all innocent and pretend that it isn't happening. No right at all.

Yup, and that is the main truth of the religion. It can be good for some, it's neutral for most and it can be very very bad for others (me incl). People like David do not understand that (yet I hope).
Religion should remain a private matter individually, without indoctrination. There's plenty of good to be gotten from religion, but also plenty of bad.
Religiously-based abortion bans are only showing how absolutely ignorant and stupid some people are. Biblically speaking, abortion is not being condemned at all and is even preferred in some instances, and provides a recipe as well. These people are out of their overcontrolling minds. In the 80s, we were angry at Christians for their demands on us. Whether we were D&D players or atheists or both, we argued against Christian extremism. It wasn't very widespread, but it still had a horrible impact on the rest of us, whether atheist or moderate religious person.
In 1985, a Christian had a tantrum and stormed out of the Philosophy 101 class I was attending. It's not that the prof was promoting atheism, it's that he was quoting the Bible to show a couple of its flaws. The professor wasn't surprised by the outburst. He told those who remained that, "There's at least one every year."
In the 80s, we didn't have the internet, but we still had the term "sky father". It comes from etymology: The Vedic deity Dyaus Pita literally means "sky father". We may not have said "Sky Daddy" but we still mocked the "invisible old man in the sky".

Since his religion tells him or at least makes him think he should be worried about the beliefs of others he has a reason, but us atheists don't have a doctrine telling us to be concerned about what other people believe so we shouldn't. It's similar to the way they talk about morals, since we don't have a religious doctrine to interpret to get our morals, these apologists don't think we should have morals just because we don't follow some religious doctrine.

I lived in a Christian household during 9/11, and also lived with atheists at home, school and yes, even at church. You know what the big difference was? They acknowledged the attacks were by extremists and, while sad, weren't grounds for mass destruction of entire peoples under the guise of "patriotism" and "Christian love." Meanwhile at home, one of my friend's families were ostracized, bullied and attacked simply because they were Muslim. It got to the point that one day, my friend just never came back to school, and when I went to his house, his garage was painted with words I don't want to repeat and his windows broken. He and his family had to abandon their home and jobs and leave because of "Christian love" being sent their way from the Baptist Church down the street.

Isn’t it strange that you conveniently do not subscribe to the truism that a person is rightly judged by their actions not by their affiliation only when it comes to Christians - yes?
By the way, you just totally and utterly refuted yourself!! Your “proof” and generalisation that “Christian love” led to the persecution of lots of Muslims after 9/11, and that you atheists were the only ones not tarring everyone with the same brush because you’re all so “tolerant” and “loving”, is just laughable and beyond ironic given the triumphalism and vitriol against all religious expression by new atheists after 9/11 - right?
Moreover, your very ironic virtue signalling about tolerance whilst tarring all Christian’s with the same brush was a self own on multiple levels and is nothing more substantive than anecdotal “evidence” with a sample size of ONE!!

I didn't even know what an atheist was when I realised I had stopped believing in God. There was no-one there to promise me anything; there was no-one in my life who voiced an opinion in favour of atheism (and this was all before Arpanet even became the Internet, let alone incorporated the invention of the WWW).
All I did was realise that the bible was unreliable and that, as far as I could tell, the claims of Christianity about its god and an afterlife were functionally indistinguishable from the claims of other religions about Zeus or Vishnu or Buddha. That's still my position today, half a century later. This person, the Liar Formerly Known As David, could readily change my mind if he had good, solid evidence to present, but instead he spends his time wittering on about people saying daft things that he personally doesn't like. That's quite telling, I think. (Also he needs to be reminded that Jesus reportedly had a few things to say about behaviour like David's: motes and beams, old son, motes and beams.)

Per a 2018 article at Pew that draws from 2014 and 2017 Pew Research center surveys:
    1. About 23% of adults who were raised as Muslim in the USA no longer identify as Muslim.
    2. Roughly the same number (23-24%) of adult Muslims in the USA converted to Islam rather than being raised in it.
    3. Of the former Muslims, 55% associate with "no religion, not a believer, agnostic, or atheist."
    4. Of the Muslim converts, 19% identify as being formerly "no religion, not a believer, agnostic, or atheist."
So by the conversion rates, one is almost 3x more likely to go from Muslim to atheist than from atheist to Muslim.
But it gets even worse for this... gentleman.
    5. Of the former Muslims, 22% converted to Christianity.
    6. Of the current adults who converted to Islam, 77% were formerly Christians.
So the conversion rate of Christian->Muslim is over 3x the conversion rate of Muslim->Christian.
A current Muslim convert is over 4x more likely to have been a Christian previously than an atheist. A person who leaves Islam is over 2.8x as likely to become an atheist than a Christian.
If this... gentleman is worried about the dangers of Islam, his best defense would be to spread atheism.

“Around the world people are leaving Islam for Christianity in unprecedented numbers.” [Dr Duane Alexander Miller].
Furthermore, it gets even worse for Islam because In an interview at Al Jazeera , Sheikh Ahmad al Katani confirmed Dr Millers research and stated that in Africa alone…
“Because of the Christian missionaries every hour Islam loses 667 Muslims [who] convert to Christianity, every day 16,000, [and] every year six million" [Abdallah]

Honest question: have you ever sat down to carefully read and study the Bible? If you're going to answer please say either "yes" or "no", as anything in between would be lying.

To answer your question, no atheist ever proselytized me, or promised I would be smarter. What happened is that through a number of circumstances, after 43 years in the Baptist Church, I became disillusioned with religion as practiced by those around me, so I went looking for God more earnestly and honestly than I ever had before, and slowly realized there was no god. That was it; I realized that I did not believe, almost entirely on my own. It was well after this that I encountered atheist Tubers like yourself, Paulogia, Seth Andrews, the Genetically Modified Skeptic and others whose stories sounded a lot like mine and made me understand it was okay to admit my unbelief and there was nothing scary about the word "atheist".

31:21 Actually it looks like we're tired of pretentious pricks telling us they know what's in our minds better than we do...
_Like David saying that we're in rebellion against Jesus, and that it's just like you said all along._
    And calling us clowns. 32:44

The guy should have thought a bit more about his forest fire analogy. Forest fires are actually useful for the forest as a whole, it gets rid of flammable materials, making room for new growth. Actively fighting forest fire makes the danger actually greater. Flammable material piles up until the fataful forest fire that can't be stopped burns down the whole forest, wiping it out.

Not to mention meany plants NEED fire to reproduce! We have no shortage of such species here in Australia. Some of them even have the germination of their seeds triggered by exposure to the chemicals in smoke from a bushfire.

5:15 "Fun new arguments..." - He still doesn't get it. Atheists like myself aren't interested in arguments for the existence of god. We're interested in _evidence._
11:30 How many times does it have to be said? Atheism is not a "world view". Please stop strawmanning.
12:45 I don't care what "roles religion plays in society". I'm interested in an accurate understanding of physical reality, because _misunderstanding_ physical reality is a straight line to doing stupid things that cause people to die. It's a survival prerogative to try to understand the environment correctly, and religion runs _against_ that. Example: It teaches us things like that we can change physical reality for the better through prayer. Nope. Doesn't work and misleads people into not getting medical help for their children.
13:08 Re. rabbits - Humans have always made mistakes. Yes, this was a mistake. It was an easy one to make because rabbits are a very convenient source of animal protein on a homestead in a challenging environment. For early settlers without the ecological knowledge to understand the consequences, bringing rabbits made sense. But science is all about learning from our mistakes. Ecology exists as a field of scientific study because we've made mistakes and it gives us a framework in which to deepen our understanding of Nature. By the way, where in the Bible does it tell us not to bring rabbits to Australia? I'll add one more thing. Most of those early Australians with the rabbits were probably self-described Christians.
