    I bought a black SMP 300m last summer to commemorate one year with the company I work for, after changing my life completely around 180 degrees. It’s such a beautiful watch and when I look at it, I get so immersed in its beauty that I forget to look at the actual time 🤣. This watch has sentimental value to me and I will NEVER get rid of it! It’s literally the perfect watch for me.

      Totally right except for one point. Even if you want a Sub you shouldn't buy one at least in my eyes. The main reason is you shouldn't support bad behavior. The fact they don't make enough and you have to either wait at least a year or pay way too much money. I really want a Rolex but until they actually care about customers I will never buy one.

      @@AlwaysBolttheBird I get what you're saying, as someone that's been waiting forever for a GMT-Master II Batgirl, I truly feel your pain. However, the reason Rolex watches hold their value so much better than other brands of similar quality and build (Omega, Breitling, etc.) is the limited supply. So although their methods hurt people looking to buy a Rolex, for those that already have one, their methods help them retain the value. So, I fully get what you're saying... but if I buy anything but what I want, I'm just going to want the Rolex again in 6 months to a year.

    • @AlwaysBolttheBird
      @AlwaysBolttheBird 4 года назад +8

      2Crassus Crassus have you ever tried to “wait” for a Rolex? In order to even get on a list you usually have to have bought from the jeweler before they will even let you on the list (I know that’s the keeper and not Rolex but just another hurdle to buy a watch) and then you wait three years for something that is just a watch. There is nothing so special about a Rolex that they can’t make more of them. If you think that Rolex doesn’t make more because they care then you are delusional. They make way less to make them seem more special than they are. If they made more and you could just go and buy one people would realize they are no more special than any other watch.

    • @AlwaysBolttheBird
      @AlwaysBolttheBird 4 года назад +6

      Matthew Russo so basically what you are saying is Rolex is gate keeping. If you already have one great if not we don’t care. I would argue that you shouldn’t buy a watch as an investment. It’s actually a pretty bad investment. You should buy a watch because you want one and want to even pass it down. I would also argue that Rolex watches don’t actually hold value but are so artificially inflated that are just more expensive because you can’t get one.

You could buy a Planet Ocean (or Speedmaster) AND SMP 300m for the price of a Submariner. In addition, their warranty and customer service is highly rated. I just bought a brand new Seamaster 300M (in blue with a rubber strap) last week! I was shopping for a Breitling Superocean Heritage II, and the AD had her Omega case right next to the Breitlings. I looked over and saw the Seamaster. I put it on and was unexpectedly blown away! I bought it on the spot and absolutely LOVE it. I should say I already have 2 Rolexes (a 1984 GMT Master II "Sophia Loren" and a 1949 dress watch) so I don't have any of that brand envy. I've owned Subs in the past, and I really think the Seamaster is a more beautiful and satisfying watch for my collection.

    One point that I see everyone failing to raise in those comparisons is "how modern" the watch looks. If you buy a watch to complete your image and so you care about its design & style (which is more common than caring about its tech specs), the Seamaster divers is a watch that screams 21th century loudly... it has fine details, shiny materials, perfect engravings... it's rich and detailed. It's MODERN. The Sub is awesome, but it clearly shows its design years, it's "classic". If they were cars, the submariner would be the Ferrari 512bb, the Seamaster would be the F12 berlinetta. I think the choice between the sub and the 300m diver is mostly about the different image you want to project, not the tech specs (which I disagree with you: they are not on par, they are MUCH in favour of the Omega).

      I agree with you that this Seamaster being modern and a Submariner being classic. In 20 years time, this Seamaster will be dated, while a Sub continues to be timeless. Just look at how dated a 1990s Seamaster is vs a submariner from that era, and their prices on used market strongly reflected that as well.

      @dariodeagostini 4 года назад +29

      @@tonyfu2200 I agree with you, but perhaps not for the reason you think. what makes the sub design stand the time is actually the fact that rolex doesn't change it. The problem with omega is their lack of will to stick to a design and commit for decades to it. The current seamaster will be "old" because omega will release 10 new divers in the next 10 years, all different.

    The Seamaster is available to purchase. I got one, barely used, and still under the 5-year warranty for $4000.00. Perfect condition. It's not going to find its value go up as the Submariner has, and the PP Natilus, and the AP Royal Oak. It is going to hold value and with time depreciate a little but essentially it is not a watch to buy as an investment like Rolex and the others, but is a watch to WEAR and to be proud of! I have the blue dial with rubber strap as my daily beater and with the ceramic bezel, dial design and antimagnetic movement, it beats the s

I have had a ceramic submariner and sold it as it got little wrist time once I bought a 16710 GMT master II. the seamaster is a "better" watch than the sub in many ways but the rolex model is a superstar and I would fully understand why people will accept nothing less than a sub and hence the silly prices. at one third the cost and available the seamaster is the thinking man's choice.

    Personally I think that despite the two watches being compared a hell of a lot that they actually fill two different markets. The seamaster more commonly will act as a first foray into luxury watches as it is such a value packed watch with unique design detailing and a heritage to match. The fact you cannot get a steel sports model when you walk into an AD means the equivalent sub just cant compete with the seamaster unless you are willing to drop double the retail value of the seamaster on the watch which many seamaster buyers are not looking at doing... Either way you make great points suggesting the strength of this watch as it certainly is a great watch but a submariner buyer would most likely not consider buying a seamaster as a replacement rather they would buy it and then sell it while they are on the waitlist for the subs. Anyway great video Jenni! Love the production quality as always!

      I don’t really think it’s a “first foray” watch, with an MSRP of $5,200, or even with a discount. It used to be everyone’s first good watch 10 years ago, but the prices have gradually moved up every year such that it’s basically a fine luxury watch, period. A first foray watch today would be something like an Oris, Longines, or even Tudor Black Bay diver. This watch is a little too spendy to be a first foray watch anymore for many.

      @@TruckeeDoggo I would agree with you mate, the only thing is you can't get a sub at retail so the secondary market is the only option. comparing apples to apples is only fair so when you look at their secondary market values I think the seamaster slips back into that bracket for many. Hout & Co good point. Pre owned the new Seamaster can be obtained in the low 4K range U.S., but that was the price of the SMP brand new about seven years ago. Used SMPs could be had under 3k back then. The price increase has been significant, and watches like the Oris 65, Black Bay, etc., are more recent and significantly cheaper options. This is a great review. As the owner of both brands, the Omega Co-axial Master Chronometer movement is superior to the Rolex movement, but they are really two different watches. The Rolex is is likely to maintain its value better than the Omega; not because of substance, but because of perception. Both brands have driven each other to an industry-best 5 year warranty. I don't think you can go wrong with either brand, but I personally wouldn't buy a Rolex right now. The wait and/or prices are ridiculous.

    Great quality video! I got both the Sub and the Seamaster Pro and even though they are competitors, you can hardly compare them. They are both amazing watches, but both in very different ways. Personally I disagree about the bracelet and actually find this the clearest aspect where the Omega is better. The Rolex bracelet looks better and more refined, but the Omega bracelet feels extremely well made and the Omega push system in the clasp works easier and more accurate than the Rolex glidelock. The only aspect where the Sub is clearly better is the bezel action. The Omega bezel is good, but the one on the Sub is just the best...

However I could see one of these on a rubber strap making it’s way into my collection. I fully believe that this watch is the equal of the 2020 subs and is better than the first 6 digit ones, however I’ll take a 5 digit sub over any modern diver (barely over my bb58). If I was buying only one brand new dive watch in 2020 it would be the BB58 or the 300m

    This one I really like. I would spend the extra $$ for the bracelet. Only 2 things I have issue with on this piece:
    1) The Scallop bezel (I prefer fine tooth or coin edge)
    2) That protruding helium expansion/escape relief valve at the 10 o'clock.
    With that said; for the additional $10k+ I'd be saving with the Omega, I'd be willing to make the "sacrifice". I have no issues with "rotor noise". It's a shame ALL watches aren't made to not lose any time. Just wish it was a 44mm like the DEEPSEA Sea-Dweller. My eyes are definitely opened to Omega now.

    I've only ever had Omegas for the last 40 years. No ridiculous waiting lists or over inflated prices. Brilliant watch and amazing review.

      Too bad Omega are dickheads and make watch sizes for big foot arms. My wrist is 6.5 and everything is probably too f!nn big.

      @@DEE-mt9eq 36-38mm used to be the Classic size for wristwatches until the fat wrist sized people started crying b/c they looked too small, so watch companies started making these absurd cartoon sized wristwatches for these absurd cartoon looking rappers. Smfh.

    What a difference from the homely faces on most watch websites !! Well, I am exaggerating, but not completely !! A pretty face, but also very knowledgable !! Please keep it up !!

    Awesome watch!! But for me I would go with the 16613 or the 16610. The Subs without the maxi case are perfect in size and will be a classic in the future!!
