  • In this video I am showing you my top 3 Rolex Submariner alternatives!

    Follow me on IG: bit.ly/36QAVhs
    1) TagHeuer Aqua Racer
The first watch in this list is the AquaRacer Calibre 5 by TagHeuer. It is the least expensive one of the three with a RRP of 2.300€, definitely a great value for your money!
The AquaRacer is available in two sizes: 41mm and 43mm. The case of the watch as well as the bracelet is made from 316L steel. The surfaces on the case, caseback, bracelet and clasps are brushed and the sides are nicely polished. On top sits a scratch resistant sapphire crystal.
The bezel is graded the way you would expect it from a diver and unidirectional, of course.
Tag Heuer added a quick-adjustment to the well-made folding clasp which lets you adjust the watch within 1cm without using any tools.
The black dial with its horizontal grooves sports the TagHeuer logo in sharp, white letters as well as some white and yellow color accents.
In terms of movement the Aqua Racer is really lacking compared to the submariner: Within the watch you’ll find the Calibre5 with a 38h power reserve, which is a slightly modified ETA2824 or Selita SW200-1. Both standard automatic calibres which you can buy for about 150€. So, when buying the AquaRacer you have to settle with a standard movement and not an in-house product. Something that is probably not going to bother you on a daily basis but something you should be aware, I think.
    2) TudorBlackBay
With its 41mm in Diameter the Tudor (3.480€) looks and feels significantly bulkier than the submariner but given the fact that the Black Bay measures 15mm in height it comes as no surprise. The crown on the side is also a lot bigger than what we are used to from Rolex.
The Black Bays case, case back and bracelet are made from 316L steel - partly brushed and polished on the sides. Overall the finishing looks a bit rougher than that on a submariner but that has also become one of Tudors well- loved trademarks. Additional to that we also have what looks like riveting on the bracelet even though those rivets are actually pins that hold together the links, the rest is just for looks. The clasp has no quick adjustment and no glide lock either.
The bezel inlay on this Black Bay is not ceramic but aluminium which - for one - means, that the color is going to fade over time due to UV-radiation - and second - that this bezel is definitely not as scratch resistant as other ceramic bezels. But since this is a diver, it is also unidirectional and you can even adjust it to the second. The crystal on this watch is sapphire and underneath sits a dial that is definitely almost up there with Rolex when it comes to its quality: well-made hour markers with lumes, super sharp inscription which tell you about the 200m water resistance and the Black Bays chronometer certification and you also have the renowned Tudor- snow flake hands.
With the black bay you definitely get a lot of bang for the buck, especially because you also get an inhouse movement from Tudor. The automatic caliber MT5602 is very precise due to its COSC certification including a 70h power reserve.
    3) Omega Seamaster 300m
The Omega Seamaster Diver 300 has a case diameter of 42mm and a height of 12,8mm. The case is made from 316L steel, with sand blasted sides and the characteristically Omega-polished edges.
In this video I am showing the rubber strap version, which is ideal for the summer due to its material with an RRP of 4.450€.
In addition to the screw down crown, the seamaster has also a helium escape valve on the side.
The unidirectional bezel inlay is made from ceramic with a white enameled diving scale.
The rubber strap version has a pin buckle, so adjusting the size is as easy. But the stainless steel version does not disappoint either: It comes not only with a glidelock with a 2cm adjustment span but also an additional dive extension with an extra 1 cm in length.
The black dial can be seen through a nonreflecting sapphire crystal. It is also made from polished ceramic, which gives it this shiny, deep black look.
The hands as well as the hour markers are extremely well made and have super luminova aplied to them.
At 6 o clock we can also find the date but without the magnifying glass on top of it. The Omega Seamaster Diver 300m is powered by Omegas inhouse calibre 8800. This calibre is not only COSC but also Metas certified, which means that those calibres are not only as precise as the ones from Rolex but they are also more resistant against magnets.Another huge plus for me is the sapphire case back.
I am on IG now :-D

Jenni Elle Id say Omega Seamaster if not for the bracelet. I think the Tudor has the superior bracelet. I’d probably choose the Seamaster on a rubber strap out of these three but what I’d really choose would be a Tudor but the Black Bay 58!

Excellent content and presentation 👍 Personal preference is for a different Seamaster: either a cal 8800 Planet Ocean, a 8900 300, or a previous generation 2220.80. The waves on the new 42mm 300m are gaudy, and remind me of the curvy strings of fat tissue you see on salmon nigiri. I get cravings for sushi or poke every time I look at the new 300!

I decided to end 2020 on a good note, so on 31 December 2020, I bought an Omega Seamaster 300M and I love it. This is my very first Omega purchase, but it will not be my last.
Eleven days after purchasing the Omega, my Rolex AD phoned to let me know that the silver OP41 I had ordered nearly 4 months earlier had come in. I went ahead and bought it because I know how hard it is to get right now; but haven’t even taken it out of the box to try it on. I don’t want to take this Omega off. I have several other watches, including multiple Rolexes. But this Omega is my favorite. Honestly the best watch purchase I’ve ever made.

Omega is the reason why I was never able to bring myself to ever buy a Sub. And this goes all the way back to when you could walk into a store and walk out with either one, some 11-12 years ago. The Sub always felt so boring and even cheap tbh... It never did anything for me. And I don't care about impressing others as much as I care about satisfying myself by getting what I really like.

      Disagree. 😁

    • @jimmyjay122
      @jimmyjay122 4 года назад +11

@@MarkMphonoman it's ok... It's a matter of taste. And I believe that watches like the Submariner or the GMT Master II are more of an acquired taste. With their boxy cases and needlessly oversized lugs causing that hideous abrupt transition to the narrow bracelet it's just painful to look at. Compared to almost any diver from Omega the Rolex looks like a steel brick. And then there is the movements, a word you rarely ever hear coming from Rolex owners. Omega movements have surpassed Rolex time and again. I've had Omegas that put almost every other watch I have to shame when it comes to precision. Shifting as little as 1 second/week. The only thing that Omega falls behind on is it's image as a luxury symbol. Rather they seem more focused on making the best precision instruments possible every time. Even pre-METAS watches kept amazingly good time.

Hey there Jenni. I just found your channel while surfing RUclips and watched this video. I enjoyed hearing your perspective and as somebody who just happens own both the Rolex Submariner and the Tag Heuer Aquaracer, I must say that I agree with your selections here. With Rolex market demand and price increases making the brand become more unattainable, I believe it will lead some potential buyers to consider other brands like Omega and Tag Heuer. Compared to the Omega and Tudor, I feel the Tag Heuer is an especially good value. I am in no way suggesting that the Tag is identical in quality or performance. However Tag does have a pedigree of its own coming from a large, reputable watchmaker with a long history. The materials, fit and finish on the Aquaracer is superb and conveys quality and elegance, yet at a price that makes it especially attractive. Best of all and unlike the Tudor Black Bay, the Aquaracer doesn't try to imitate the Rolex Submariner or borrow design elements from it, but rather it has it's own distinctive and unique styling that will not be mistaken for anything but a Tag Heuer Aquaracer. I find the Tag design to be refreshingly modern and different. For many of the same reasons I also like the Omega. It is also a competitive and attractive alternative to the Rolex Submariner. Right now, I think Omega is capitalizing on many disenfranchised hopeful Rolex buyers who have become priced out of the market and are looking for a good alternative. Omega quality is exactly what you'd expect from Rolex's nearest competitor, although from a price point it's not quite as strong of a value proposition as the Tag Heuer model is, which from my perspective makes the Aquaracer a true standout in this 3 way comparison.

Jenni I’m loving your videos. Your fun and always happy attitude makes your videos a joy to watch. Having spent many years in Germany I love your super cool accent too. It brings back memories.... I own the Aquaracer in cobalt blue ceramic and stainless and gold band. It’s a great watch and I get plenty of compliments. I also recently bought the Tissot Seastar also in blue but the bezel appears to be aluminum or stainless. It was an inexpensive watch as most go ($700 US). I have a GMT II with Pepsi bezel I bought as a retirement gift in Dec 2003. It’s been to the Rolex dealer twice for overhauls and new bezels as they tend to fade in the sun. I think I paid $3800 US for the GMT. Today if you can find one they’re going for close to $10,000 which is crazy. My final is a limited edition (#69 of 250) Breitling Navitimer with a beautiful chocolate dial and a unique left hand crown. It’s a gorgeous watch but I never wear it. My dream is the hulk green Submariner. For me that is the most beautiful understated watch around..... keep up the great videos.

I always wanted a sub and eventually got one two years ago. The honeymoon period lasted a month or so before I started to wonder why it was so many peoples "Grail" So, I sold it and don't regret this. I only have one diver, an Oris Aquis. I love the design of this far more than the Sub. If I were to look at another diver or would be the Seamaster. MUCH MUCH nicer looking watch than the Sub and the Co-Axial is fantastic. A great review 👍

Robert Feast, I agree with you there I don't know why there considered the holy grail. I own a 2016 Sub and part of the problem is you also get asked " Is it real" ? You also see them a lot more nowadays that you can easily get a Noob factory version ( Replica )making it rather annoying having something little bit exclusive. I however wouldn't sell mine as it does hold happy memories for me and has traveled the world a lot. I do tend to wear a Black Bay or Breitling Superocean ( Old model ) nowadays . Most people that ask me about it are themselves interested in watches with some knowledge.

An excellent video! Even though I have been a Heuer fan since the late 60s, they have somewhat lost their identity in terms of their divers also. For me, the Omega Seamaster is the best of the three, even though I would rather save my money for the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms.

A very well done review! Having owned both the Tag Heuer Aquaracer and the Omega Seamaster 300, the difference in quality is unreal. Thank you for being one of the few to mention that the Tag movement is not value worthy for the price point that it asks for. Plastic buffers inside a $2,500+ watch? Immediately not worth the price point, but if you can get on sale for less than $2,000 I would say it's well worth the spend. Not only does the Omega offer 15,000 gauss resistance, forget not the benefits of the co-axial escapement and that long term servicing is at a fixed price of $550 for everything, as opposed to Rolex's $750 start and then adding on other service items a la carte. Overall, amazing review! I'll be looking forward to your future projects!

I'd say Rolex (i do love Rolex btw) is for people who wants reputation and title in life more than the quality and design, Omega is for people who has more than enough self confidence and smart enough to analyze no need to be a dumb or cheated by Rolex's non-ethical way of supply&demand game!! At the end of the day, Omega Seamaster is truly a fantastic timepiece quality/price wise and better in many ways compare to Sub especially with its gorgeous dial, superior in-house movement, clear back with sapphire cyrstal and the way lume design as well as the color..

As a former navy and now sports diver the Omega Seamaster 300 is the best made divers watch out there, this well built tool is much better than the Submariner (the Sub does have a better bezel grip though) and is behind the Seamaster when it comes to looks, class and price. This beautiful looking watch is amazingly well built and can be worn anywhere, even though dive watches are now overtaken by computers. Thanks to Omega this watch is sure to be a classic in the future, and a great purchase price at the moment before the price starts to go up, as Omega have under priced this watch and it's only a matter of time before they adjust the price accordingly . This watch has taken the Seamaster range into a different class all on it's own, and has been the best purchase I have ever made to take out into ocean.
