At this point, anyone even remotely associated with watch enthusiasm knows the Rolex Submariner is one of the hardest watches to actually buy in the world. So what I wanted to do in this video was to share some of top alternatives to the Rolex Submariner out there on the market in 2022.

I don’t disagree with any of those but I’ll definitely throw in the Longines Hydroconquest.
This is what I purchased last month, two tone silver/gold, love it.

Me too
Excellent wristwatch. Mine loses only 2 seconds a day.
Agreed, just grabbed a 39mm black dial a couple of weeks ago
Yep....
Your watch videos are like seminars on horology. Very well researched and love that you don't just stick to the biggies. You give anyone thinking of the dive watch category plenty to chew on, and plenty to think about. Another great video. Two thumbs up!
Just started getting into watches again, I'm a big Japanese diver guy......anyway, just highlighting that Teddy has some really great videos, super comfortable presenting, good stuff, thank you!
I agree with saving up for the Sub if that is what you ultimately want. I've wanted once since I was a kid and I saved for a few years before buying one. The Orient dive watches are quite nice; I was blown away by the quality relative to the price. I am bummed Seiko stopped the SKX-007. On an Uncle Seiko Jubilee, it's such a nice package. I also agree with you about the Superocean not getting enough love. That was my first expensive watch and they are really well made, although a bit on the thicker side of things. I think part of it might be their use of ETA movements, although Breitling ETA movements are really exceptional workhorses.
Hi Teddy, I agree 100%. Omega gets all the love, and deservedly so, but Mido is the gem of the Swatch group.
I love that you started off with the Duro. One of the reasons why I love this channel.
As a student on a budget with a Duro and a Kamasu, I love the respect you have for all budgets!
Both nice watches. I wear both of them often. I don't own a very expensive watch but do have a good seiko and I like that too.
Glad to see Mido get some love. I have the blue Ocean Star in the video and also a black titanium Ocean Star. Two of my favorite watches.
Just got the Mido Ocean Star 600 Chronometer
Teddy, I have a friend that was given a Submariner when he became a Naval Officer by his parents about 40 years ago. He never got it serviced until a couple of years ago and was surprised at the cost. He also wanted to buy his son that became a Naval Officer recently but when he found out the price bought a Breitling instead
Probably would have recommended a black bay
Thank you Teddy! Great video, as usual. I really expected to find Glycine (Combat Sub series), Yema (Superman series ), maybe also Oris?. Glad you put in the list also the Tissot Seastar, the Mido, Orient, the The Rado C.C. and I agree with all your choices! Stay safe! Have a great life!
Brilliant video again, thanks Teddy, I am partial to the Tudor Pelagos, but it's nice to see all the other options too!!!!
I was very meh on the Tissot Seastar from the images I saw in your videos, and wondered why it appealed to you, until my coworker finally wore his to wok a couple weeks ago. It’s actually quite striking, I really like it.
Get the Chronometer, COSC edition, the standard powermatic is a issue in itself they will be worth peanuts in a decade to come if it works . After four decades I know whats what. Cheers, John :)
@@johnhayes5820 hi John, I’m one year late to the discussion but I was wondering what model specifically are you suggesting? I’m a novice to the watch world and I was contemplating buying the Tissot Seastar 1000 or 2000! Are you talking about the TISSOT BALLADE POWERMATIC 80 SILICIUM ? Thanks
If you have the wrist to pull it off it is indeed a lot of bling for the money
Also, every time you show a watch on your wrist, follow up with a shot of the same watch on the same wrist in the dark to display its luminosity. It matters from both a practical and aesthetic standpoint.
Great topic. I'd say these are solid watches in their own right. From the Submariner to the Duro they all serve their purpose in different ways for a variety of reasons.
Popular theme on RUclips. Yours is perhaps the fourth I’ve seen this week. That said, yours is the most comprehensive and makes many excellent points. My choice: the Glashutte Original.
Have to agree the Mido Ocean Star is a great watch for the money. I have the same one you had shown in the video. It's my daily driver and the bracelet is just perfect for a watch at this price point. No push pins on this watch has quality screw link adjustments and just a feel the watch should cost more. I love the day/date and really, I would say it's more of a Seamaster Alternative.
Breitling Superocean 44 was my first luxury watch purchase. I like the weight of it, and the bracelet is really comfortable. Its got a funky set of numerals which I like as well. I recommend it, but I feel in comparison to a Sub there is closer models. I think its got enough merit and cache brand wise to stand on its own rather than be a compromise to a sub.
I quite like the look of Oris divers in design. In terms of looks and ability, Christopher Ward divers have very caple 600m depth
Really nice video, saw some new models that I had not seen or thought of in the past.
I’m glad you mentioned a Zodiac Sea wolf. That’s one of my favorites in any style.
I have a few dive watches and I think my next one will be a Citizen Promaster. After wearing automatic watches that need to be set every time I dont wear them forces few days and quartz opening them to change a battery now putting the WR into question. An Eco Drive seems absolutely perfect for a dive watch (one that will actually see time under water).
Great picks overall. I would have swapped an offering from Squale (probably a 1545) over the Rado. The captain cook doesn’t give off any submariner vibes for me. But again, great video.
I prefer my Omega SMP 300m over the Seamaster Heritage. I also own a BB58 & Planet Ocean. I love them all & prefer them over a traditional Submariner. I know it’s an iconic piece, but it’s just way too vanilla for my taste. The only Sub I’d buy today is a Cermit. Excellent video Teddy!
I assume that is the "starbucks" i agree, it would be my pick as well.
For 700$ the watch I picked for that classic dive watch vibe is the Yema Pearldiver. A beautiful watch that I wear almost everyday since last April and it survived all my hikes and adventures, from lakes to mountains to extreme cold.
Good one here, Teddy. You speak to an eclectic group, which I love. Some videos for those who can afford a few grand and some for those who can’t. 🤙🤙 Also, I love the Certina mention. Beauty brand that doesn’t get talked about enough DS8 with anthracite dial is sexy AF
Great topic. I have both a Duro and a Kanno, both epitomise the clean uncluttered style.
I had the Citizen Promaster in blue (yes, that exact model comes in blue, but not in the U.S.), and it was a lovely watch, but just too big, so I ended up parting with it. But a phenomenal value if it fits you.
Vaer Arctic Diver could be included in this group. Great microbrand with a great finish.
Thank you very much. I’m truly enjoying the review of more intricate specific watches that really stand out and play its part. Thank you. I have appreciated watches more watching your reviews. Will soon purchase a watch on your website. Please keep giving us all the knowledge and love for watches. Wanting to build a 25 watch collection. Thank you.
De acuerdo 100%, tengo el Casio y el Seiko, pero las otras opciones como el Cap. Cook son fascinantes
I have the Orient. It’s definitely lacking in any wow factor and both the crown and bezel are a little slick and hard to operate. That said, it just works. Size is perfect on a slender wrist. The silicone band is very good. So good I’m thinking of getting an extra one to put on my Turtle… replacing the oversized buckle Seiko strap. I see the Orient as an everyday around the house and outdoor watch. Inexpensive enough to not worry about and yet cool enough to be in the collection. And you can’t beat the price
Great list, i was waiting to see also the Oris Aquis
Great selection of watches teddy
When thinking about alternatives, the Oris Aquis and the CW C60 Trident come to mind. Would really like tp hear what Teddy thinks of these. I wear both the Duro and Kamasu, excellent pieces!
Also have both the Duro and Kamasu ... Christopher Ward (love the c60 and c65) and Oris are definitely on my list to get.
The Aquis is an amazing watch. I've never been a fan of owning the same watch in different colors, but I'm very on the fence of purchasing another Aquis because it's that good
Yo same I was thinking about the oris aquis, don't know why he didn't include
You want hear much about Christopher Ward because Teddy can’t sell them. It is online only. I have 3 Oris watches, BCPD, TT 1000 diver and the Aquis. I also own the C60 1000 elite and the C65 as well as the c65 chronograph.
I’m actually so surprised too that the Orris aquis is not in the list. I love that watch
Still wearing my Casio day to day. Nothing to worry about, always accurate. Crazy value. I have my Hydroconquest for when I want steel auto diver on my wrist.
Where did you buy it? I can't find a trustworthy site
@@helmandecaridadecarlos5730 Amazon in Canada. If you’re outside North America, eBay might be your best bet.
Thanks
Lot’s of beautiful pieces here (particularly the BP and the new Seamaster) but there’s no substitute for the real thing IF that’s what you desire. I bought the SD43 because because I knew I’d always long for it. Life is short, buy the watch you really want.
nice presentation Teddy. you have a gift.
I just bought a Tissot Seastar 2000 and the dial is incredible, very close to Omega Seamaster level
All great Choices, Mido would be my number 1, they are hands down the winner for fit an finish in that price range.
Teddy: "People are gonna go for the thinner watch."
Invicta fans: *visible confusion*
Hahahaha
Totally agree with you all counts. My favorite is the Citizen because it is thin, light and has a brushed finish. You hardly know you have it on.
For the vintage dive watch...the Squale is my favourite
Great, Informative down to earth & helpful Video (!)
Excellent choices good sir.
Nice video. I’d be interested in seeing what your Rolex OP and Explorer alternatives would be.
You seem to always forget the Certina Action Diver family, in different sizes, they have the Powermatic 80 inside and they all cost well under 1000usd.
squale sub39 is a great shout too. And for something more high end seiko - an SLA037 or SLA043. They are perfection.
Glad you mentioned Zodiac. They are underrated watches.
It’s almost funny how you sometimes seems to read out minds in terms of content - or just really do know you audience. After your last one, I swear I thought: “I would really like a video on Rolex Submariner alternatives and dive watches in general, covering many price ranges”… Another excellent one! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The Tissot! Wow what a design stunner! Need to see that in black!!
One issue not mentioned is the visibility of the inner minute markers. If they are on a steep rehaut /chapter ring like the Casio you can hardly see them especially in low light. Better when they are flat on the main watch face like the Mido.
Well done, Teddy!
I gave up on wanting to own a Sub when the AD told me to buy my wife a watch and he’ll bump me on the wait list.I ended up buying the larger Glashutte and was given a 10% discount .Best decision I have made since collecting watches.
Hi Teddy, i think the Tudor black bay s&g is an underrated divewatch. The 5012 inhouse movement with date ist fantastic
Greatings from Germany
Nice selection here.
Very nice presentation.
I can tell I’m going to love this video.
Good video. I think the JLC Mariner Date should have had a mention too.
I was in the market for a Sub, but I just couldn't drop almost 15k on one. So I really started looking at Omega and Breitling, specifically the Ocean Master 600 and the Superocean 48. I finally pulled the trigger on the Breitling since it's more robust with Ti DLC casing and I'm using it daily plus surfing, etc. There are so many amazing watches out there from Oris, Tudor, Breitling, Omega, Micro Brands, etc. Great video!
Tag and Luminox are also a good water watch 200 meters
Just decided for a Breitling Superoceon 44 Special. Beats the Rolex Deepsea Sea Dweller from the design for me…
Great choice! Enjoy 🙏🏼
Those are more realistic alternatives to a Sub. I bought a Seamaster myself. I highly doubt that someone in the market for a Sub views a Casio or Orient as alternatives, though lol
The Breitling Superocean 42 can be purchased new for around $2800 black dial on bracelet in the grey market. At that price there is nothing out there that beats it in build quality, brand heritage, and ease of servicing.
Axios ironclad 40 for me was just a random discovery after buying a zelos and i think is just an awesome piece money/quality wise
I fell in love with the duro 😍
I am glad you didn't choose the Seamaster 300M. It seems to be the only diver people buy from Omega. Maybe it is the price. I think the perfect Omega is the Planet Ocean. I absolutely love Mido as well. Great video as usual.
Other options are Lorier Neptune, Christopher Ward Trident series, weirdly Sinn 104 (even though it's not a dive watch). Also, if you don't need a rotating bezel take a look at Panerai Radiomir and Luminor series (In personally not a fan of Submersibles)
I got the Casio Duro. This watch is simply perfect and so nice.
Didn’t really see the connection to the Sub in most of these. But, that being said, great video on divers. Expected to see Oris, but good call on the Mido, love my 200c.
I own a Orient Kamasu, it is precise and sturdy. That all I need from a diver.
Thank you for the video Teddy. Wish you had a used blancpain FF--I'd buy it.
i think the SeaQ is GORGEOUS with a stunning movement.
Teddy - As always what a great video and education for us watch lovers. Can you recommend or do a video about brands that have great 38 and/or 40mm watches for folks with small writs like me! 😊😊! Thanks much.
Excellent video
I love your channel. I Have 2 suggestions for future videos. The 2 most important watches in my collection are my grandfather's pocket watch and my father's ww2 watch. I hope you would have a video on watch restoration. Also, I would think some would appreciate special needs watches such as braille watches.
Great video 👍🏾
Nice looking selection in a wide price range with such an informative and interesting presentation, thnx. . . :>/
Excellent Video
Good review, but now, in September 2022, the new Tudor Pelagos 39 is the one for me, that and the Seiko SPB143.
You need to mention the Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro 600. Amazing watch.
What gear do you use for the watch close ups? Looks sweet!
Oris aquis 39.5mm black dial and bezel is a perfect alternative below the bb58 price point
16:46 disagree. It'll wear closer to a 42mm than a 40mm due to the large 48mm lug to lug and the thin bezel which allows for a much wider field of view of the dial.
Three watch RUclipsrs making the same video the same week-ish? Odd coincidence.
Who else?
Somethings up
JOMW, Timeteller, and Jenni made the same video yesterday
Theyre all friends, yo
So funny looking at the Tudor and how strongly it presents as a little more refined influence from the MKII Kingston watch that long before preceded it.
Picked up an 80's version Tag Heurer at a consignment shop for $100 ... a bit scuffed and worn but I had it verified at an AD before finalizing the purchase - 200m Professional diver, 37.5mm case, 9mm thick, sapphire crystal, original jubilee bracelet ... quartz but hitting all the markers - don't sleep on vintage.
Paid $300 for mine new in the early 1980's (980.613B). A great looking watch at an affordable price.
I’m a big sucker for black/grey/orange color combo on Tudor
Hey Teddy where is did you get that shirt you have on it is awesome, and another great video as always!!!
Would love to see this for the Rolex Daytona
Hydroconquest..pelagus? Great watches
Teddy, I hope you become the authorized dealer for Certina. Too bad they aren't that popular in this part of the world. Their DS Action Divers are gorgeous. With a ISO 6425 certification too! Keep up the good work bringing Certina into the limelight.
Certina, and Mido for that matter, don't get enough love here in the US!
Tissot I think takes up the space in the USA
@@Lightdog555 tissot as a brand is far superior than both Certina or Mido
@@Lightdog555 I absolutely love Tissot. Can’t beat them for value. And will always have a special place in my heart. But Certina has real dive heritage and better build quality. One can hope they get some love too here in North America.
So true. I'd be interested to hear why Certina isn't really carried in the US.
I would love the Tudor Black Bay 58, if it had a date. I love the dial, and overall look of the watch, but without a date it just feels like something is missing. I would much rather have the Pelagos, or the Pelagos LHD at this point.
Omega Seamaster 300 Diver! Great Watch👍
Hi Teddy a question for you ,completely different topic ... dose any one make a watch with a day only complication it seems to be overlooked in the watch world but would make sense , set it and forget it with little to no need to adjust it .Monday always follows Sunday. ...etc ...etc.
Hi Teddy, I love watching your videos and really admire your balanced and incisive evaluations. Would have liked to see Longines Hydroconquest somewhere in the list. Somehow Rado doesn't strike that chord. 👍
The 43 mm Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 is such a great watch.
The baby Tuna is a superb watch that will suit just about any wrist size
Maybe do a similar video on the Speedmaster
The Seiko 6R35 movment ist krapp. I have it in a (new) Baby Alpinist and it fluctuates wildly from -10 to +40 seconds per day. Plus too much slack in the crown adjust for minutes/hours. My first and last mechanical watch for that reason.
My dive watch is a Dugena Diver's Friend quartz. for 108 euros, maximum gain 2 seconds wer week.Even my 79 euro Citizen dress watch has that precision.
Imho the Citizen promaster you,ve shown is a direct, pure copy of tag heuer aquaracer black (43 mm ceramic bezel).
great vid! i've been a professional videographer for almost 40 years, and these are some of the best closeup images i've ever seen...nice work! one watch (which I purchased a couple years ago) that you didn't include among the less pricey models is the STEINHART OCEAN ONE, a very nice alternative for less than $500.00 thx for the great vid :D
That would be a homage watch, he said he wasn't including homages. 👍
@@ThePlaiibox right
That sea wolf is actually a really good looking watch
Certina DS Action Diver is certainly another one that could have made it. Mido and Certina give a lot for the money!!
