Fiverr takes way too much. There has to be something better for the artists. Also idea for a colab: make a big diorama, and every artist contributes with one model.
It's a fair commission. If you think it's not, then you're using the platform wrong. Bear in mind that Fiverr doesn't get commission on any repeat business, only the first order.
If it's too much then good luck finding clients on your own, lol. Also consider that fiverr at core is meant for digital work, so it does not need shipping fee.
I mean fiverr is okay as a networking site. Find someone on there, like their work or inversely them as a customer and then start doing things via paypal/check/other method. That 25% is to cover creating the platform, fraud protection, work integrity and other things. I dont "Agree' with that cut but I also think that people should be looking to abandon the site asap once they get a little networking done.
I recon the best one was the first package you opened, by Victor. I agree that the one you rated matched the tones of the reference picture better. But I prefer the way Victor has highlighted and shaded. The others were great and really neat but I dig that grim dark look. And consider he actually pulled that off for the price he was paid, compared to your friends who knew they were getting the video exposure. That was kick ass effort!
Huge probs to all these painters for delivering a fully painted yellow model. Personally, I would rather eat an entire bowl of shattered glass than paint a fully yellow mini.
Yeah. Miniature painting really confuses me sometimes. "Give me Imperial Fists." *is given orange marines* or edge highlight with brighter versions of the base colour unless it's black in which case you edge with blue?
i think the point of the pro painter's color choices was that the light reflections from the environment (that the bases represented) were making the armor look orangeish, along with the armor having a dust layer on it.
Maybe they put Turtle Wax on their armour that morning (for parade, obvs), and now they are fighting next to a huge inferno? Or maybe their armour was placed in the all-yellow laundry basket, but an orange sock got mixed up in the pile? The laundry guy is clearly a heretic.
that yellow highlight on the 2nd model does not go with the yellow underneath, this is why you need to mix colours. Your base is the best, but I think Emil Hurtig nailed it.
Every single one of those painter did at least thrice a good job as he or she was paid for. If you have ever painted miniatures (I have for 10 years now) you will agree instantly.
I love the fact that you got value for each and every order, some where better painted, but all was above or at what you expected from what they where charging.
@@crewealex1125 You have to do a lot of painting to get any good usually. Buy some cheap army men from the dollar store and try some different things and see what works for you.
I suppose he shouldn't have even mentioned "Imperial Fists" if his reference had wrong colors. Imperial Fists are yellow and red, not orange and black.
This was fun to watch. Everyone on this list painted better than I ever would have thought and a few actually blew my mind in quality. I always paint my own but aside from you guys on youtube who post videos of basically master work I have no other reference to my own skill since I haven't really played in years.
im super happy i found this video. It has been years since i painted 40k figures. I have been looking for a hobby again and I think you helped me re-discover one I used to love.
i found myself smiling while watching; thank you. the color schemes were different. the colors used made me wonder if there is a different understanding for the word "reference". i took it to mean: the Armour is a uniform and the color scheme should be the same as on the reference (while understanding that they will not match). i was impressed by the work they did. and helpfully informed by the experience .

It's the Imperial Fist version of: "They never saw it coming!" One quickly jumps the enemy with the helmet and puts it on them backwards, while the rest do the slicing.
Probably because of orks,as we all know death skulls are notorious for stealing stuff so if he lost one he could just pop another on and continue murdering things

Been painting minis for a few months now with the same 10 bottles of paint that i mix together and 2 brushes. Ive had some great results and a lot of fun. Did a few for free for the players in my DnD campaign, and have thought "maybe I should charge money for this?" I found your video very helpful. It showed me buyer expectations and pricing guidelines. Thank you!
"This guy knows how to do business!" The guy who asks for $25 Fiverr takes 25% - left with $19 pays for shipping from pocket, -$15, left with $4 pays for paint materials, lets say he only uses $3 worth of materials. gets paid a whopping $1 for his effort and work that doesn't even really cover for the time talking with you let alone actual paint job and skill. yeah, flawless business strategy. The only person here with business sense is Devpaints :"3
The whole discipline seems so underpaid, I don't know how anyone can make a decent living at it unless they live somewhere extremely cheap. Even the guy charging $100, his hourly rate was still probably low.
Very true. I understand that squidmar wants to settle for a low price and that includes all shipping, etc. But the artists work time is extremely underpaid in these offers. Squidmar kind of makes fun of the artist describing himself as passionate, but I think you can only do these offers if you are really passionate about doing them and painting them just for the fun, because the prices are never fair at this level.
@@christophercant It is underpaid because other artists dont value they work. You will find someone that will make that cheaper or for him it is a hobby etc.
@Lemazive They didnt know this will happen... from what they seen this is some random dude asking for them to paint. Like this is what they get paid when a customer buys this. Basically nothing. Yes this time it was different but the comment was made to point out how underpaid this is. You not seeing this is... quite sad really.
Yeah pretty sure people were going more for the imperial fist colors than his reference pic. Probably shouldve insisted on the reference colour than the origin
I've been painting mini's for a year and a half and doing a pretty good job but these models are awesome and i have a lot more to learn. Thanks for the lesson in humility
lol if arts needed to be paid that way, it would be fair for crappy artist but very unfair for good ones. Think about making a good paint as a novice in 4-5 hours and selling the paint for 50-60 eruro/dollar. Or being VERY good painter that make something better in 2-3 hours and getting paid 30-40 lol XD Art is very hard to price, and i talk for experience lol
@@WastedTalent83 That's why it's MINIMUM wage, not MAXIMUM wage. So if minimum wage is $20 an hour then a novice who takes 5 hours to do a painting gets $100, so at least that's enough to make a living from. The very good painter can do a better painting in 3 hours but charge $50 an hour for it, so they get $150 - more money for less work because they're better. Without minimum wage the very good painter can still charge $150, but the novice might only get $50. You're talking as if the very good painter's earning are capped, which they're not. The point is that the novice should be earning at least a living wage.
Just because you want to do something, doesn’t mean you’re entitled to minimum wage doing it. If you’re good enough to make over minimum wage, you will! If not, it’s time to choose another proffession.
Most artists paint because they love to nm paint not to make money. More then prolly half the most valuable paintings in the world the artists were usually poor as fuck. If you lobe somethi.g you just do it and dont care whay paid. Why everyone gotta make shit about money.
@@gandolfgreen5980 because you can't pay for your hobby, food, water, shelter and ect. without money. Also not everyone wants to work in a terrible job they hate when you can start a business that you actually enjoy. Doing art for fun is fine but being able to buy your art supplies with money from selling your art takes a lot of stress off of people who need most of that money to live. So having art or whatever your hobby is, pay for itself while your second job pays for your life is what A LOT of people want. It also means more work, more practice, more fun and the bonus of money. Win win to make more art, make others happy and make some money.

Normally I build and paint them (putting about 10 to 20 hrs on paint) but I went crazy on the building and now have 7 newly completed Gundams and was going to find some artists on Fiverr to finish them up. I watched your video to see what to expect in quality and was pleasently surprised they didn't look to bad for what you paid. Thanks for the video :)
@@TheBaralinChannel I live in Ukraine and have been painting for money for 6 years, I know the local prices for drawing very well, they are exactly the same as everywhere
@@fess700 If you say so. I live in the UK, but I am Bulgarian and have worked in Bulgaria and the prices for art in Bulgaria definitely aren't the prices for art in the UK. It's why I'm in the UK to begin with. Due to the state of the Bulgarian economy, art in Bulgaria is cheaper than the UK. This makes it cheap to people in the UK but average/expensive to people in Bulgaria etc. I think it's all relevant. If Ukraine's doing better than my home country then that's fantastic for you but that's not been my experience, hence I'm looking for work outside of it.
The mini's alone probably not (I agree). But maybe if the people are running youtube / twitch channels and showing off painting tutorials and have subs etc, then maybe I can see it. The other thing is, some of these guys might just really love painting, so in their eyes they are getting a couple of hours of fun and not having to buy their own models to do it. Of course, your comment didn't really warrant a lengthy reply, but I found it interesting to think about.

I think I actually prefer Lybbans Intercessor! That's a really great, clean paintjob for the money you spent. Love the way the armor is highlighted
Well thank you!!! :)
I second that
Thanks
Thirded.
Fiverr takes way too much. There has to be something better for the artists. Also idea for a colab: make a big diorama, and every artist contributes with one model.
Yeah, 25 percent just for providing a platform does not sound fair to me.
@uncletigger That's not much of a compromise when only one side determines this for the other.
I can appreciate any man willing to pay 200 dollars for a half-hour of content, good work mate.
I could never do this personally, but I love and appreciate the artistic abilities and fortitude of the people that do do these!
I love the way you speak of the artists... so respectfully!
Wise words! haha
it was tough and scary
Haha. Yellow is underestimated. Its my new favourite colour. I am currently painting a bad moon army
My noob observation: Imperial fists are flat yellow not borderline orange.
Blood on Yellow armor= Orange
@@giathuanleviet4138 n
ah blood on yellow armour =red and black. Just like blood on anything is red and black.

I like how you differentiate between musicians and bass players.
Thank you for showing that these services might be worth getting it
that yellow highlight on the 2nd model does not go with the yellow underneath, this is why you need to mix colours.
That mini that showed up near the end looks so real! How do you get them to move?
I also want to learn how to make your minis move
That fourty-dollar guy blew my mind.
Still, I would just have no fun playing with minis someone else painted ;(
Max Schmidt 🙏🏻😁
I'm in the opposite position, anything I've ever painted is an embarrassment so I'm far happier with other people's work!!
@@crewealex1125 Hey I have the same with any kind of craft work, e.g. renovating the flat or repairing the car. :D
@@crewealex1125 You have to do a lot of painting to get any good usually. Buy some cheap army men from the dollar store and try some different things and see what works for you.
It looks like most of them painted then with official imperial fists colors, instead of using the reference.

I just noticed that the first guy brought a backup helmet.
I suppose you have one to wear and the other to beat people to death with in close combat.
It's the Imperial Fist version of: "They never saw it coming!" One quickly jumps the enemy with the helmet and puts it on them backwards, while the rest do the slicing.
@@penguinsentinel8508 Myles Garrett style.
Probably because of orks,as we all know death skulls are notorious for stealing stuff so if he lost one he could just pop another on and continue murdering things

Entertainment at its finest.
I suck at painting miniatures and just painting stuff in general but I can still appreciate how well these are done.
it's mental how far you came from here. It's a shame the quiet, small style, old studio stage had to be stepped past. saying that, i've never seen a yter rise up to their rise in relevance so effectively and presently in real-time, congratulations in your success you deserve it
This just happened to be on my recommended list and I don't know why, but I can't say I'm disappointed! You seem like the most sympathetic guy ever, great vid!
Your kiddo is adorable! 🥺
I mean the minis are cool...yeah...
This is actually one of the best fiver vids ive seen in a while
I'm glad the video went 'viral' for you m8 and you were able to get your money back, plus hopefully some new patron supporters. Hope you have a healthy youtube career for the sake of your adorable little child :)
Been painting minis for a few months now with the same 10 bottles of paint that i mix together and 2 brushes. Ive had some great results and a lot of fun. Did a few for free for the players in my DnD campaign, and have thought "maybe I should charge money for this?"
I found your video very helpful. It showed me buyer expectations and pricing guidelines. Thank you!
"inte äta på den"
Hahaha! That's my life in four words right now!
Hahaha
I second that.
"This guy knows how to do business!"
The guy who asks for $25
Fiverr takes 25% - left with $19
pays for shipping from pocket, -$15, left with $4
pays for paint materials, lets say he only uses $3 worth of materials.
gets paid a whopping $1 for his effort and work that doesn't even really cover for the time talking with you let alone actual paint job and skill.
yeah, flawless business strategy.
15$ for a small package like this?
@@christophercant It is underpaid because other artists dont value they work. You will find someone that will make that cheaper or for him it is a hobby etc.
@Lemazive They didnt know this will happen... from what they seen this is some random dude asking for them to paint. Like this is what they get paid when a customer buys this. Basically nothing. Yes this time it was different but the comment was made to point out how underpaid this is. You not seeing this is... quite sad really.
You asked for imperial fists, and you got imperial fists, what you wanted was firehawks
Uh, nope; pretty sure it was Imperial Fists he wanted. Just really, really tan Imperial Fists. No fire.
@@YeahTheDuckweed honestly the 2nd was probably the most fisty. The ref was wayyy too orange for Fists
Yeah pretty sure people were going more for the imperial fist colors than his reference pic. Probably shouldve insisted on the reference colour than the origin
Whoa, some great talent out there. Kudos to everyone who participated!
Love them all, with each showing the painters different styles.
First one is wearing a helmet and has one on his belt. . . . . they used the wrong head for that mini. LMAO!!!! Anyone else notice?
No matter how good the artist is he has his own understanding of the expected result. It's very hard to get a perfect result at the first attempt.
It's done by some old granny in Luton, don't go for the scam on Fivver. No I'm kidding, it's not too bad for the price.
thanks
Wot u sayin bout looton m8?
I've been painting mini's for a year and a half and doing a pretty good job but these models are awesome and i have a lot more to learn. Thanks for the lesson in humility
i dont have anything to do with warhammer anymore, but if you are an artist like this in any branche: this is the perfect test for you to shine!
It is sad how underpaid these painters are. Not even getting minimum wage for the time put in.
lol if arts needed to be paid that way, it would be fair for crappy artist but very unfair for good ones.
Think about making a good paint as a novice in 4-5 hours and selling the paint for 50-60 eruro/dollar.
Or being VERY good painter that make something better in 2-3 hours and getting paid 30-40 lol XD
Art is very hard to price, and i talk for experience lol
*That was awesome* ✅😀
Hey! Love your videos! I wonder if they paint doom miniatures!?
Jesus, we used to pay that much in NZ just for a set of minis, let alone getting someone else to paint them for us 🤣
Been more than ten years since I painted my last mini, but the algorithm definitely knew I had to see this and even I was a WH fantasy guy, this was a very enjoyable video :D
Awesome man, come back 😁
Same here. I painted some sets for my young son. Friends and family thought I should do it professionally but nah. This was just a work of love. My boy is now going to college. I loved this video. So much talent there.
Great stuff! Baby trying to slowly swipe the bubble wrap, directly to his mouth, adorable!
"I hope it goes viral so I can make my money back"
Well it went viral haha.
It's really odd that most of them didn't see how orange the reference was. Or just ignored it.
My assumption is that it's a difference in monitors. Colors look different between screens, so it may not have looked nearly as orange on theirs.
They're Imperial Fists, I'd assume the guy might be new-ish and just wanted to make sure I knew what Imperial Fists are, and then I'd just paint them yellow.
@@samb.8134 So... I don't 40k. Are they a specific branch of the military or something?
@@JakeSnake07 Think of Space Marine chapters as more of knightly orders as opposed to branches. Imperial Guard would be the closest thing to our militaries.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic and working from home, I've had a lot of time on my hands and began building my Gundam models again.
In Russia you can order a pack of 5 painted for 25$, but, of course, only for locals)
lol man, in Russia for this money models will only be covered with shit
@@fess700 Nah, Russia's just a cheaper country cause of its economy. It's just as expensive there as it is here, only relative to the people.
In a comforting voice: "Inte äta på det..."
I would like to know how many hours of work those are- I can't imagine it's a viable hourly rate to make a living?
The mini's alone probably not (I agree).
But maybe if the people are running youtube / twitch channels and showing off painting tutorials and have subs etc, then maybe I can see it.
The other thing is, some of these guys might just really love painting, so in their eyes they are getting a couple of hours of fun and not having to buy their own models to do it.
Of course, your comment didn't really warrant a lengthy reply, but I found it interesting to think about.
It's probably not really profitable for one mini. However if you paint an army it's much faster and so your hourly rate will drastically improve.
Great video. I have no idea how YT thought this was interesting for me, but it was. And I really like how you managed to be kind to the artists and keep the citisizim fair. Well done!
