I think this is one of my favorite videos of the year. Not just because the editing and script is solid. But I think this is a letter of appreciation and inspiration to a fellow hobbyist. It is interesting to see from 2005 to date how there are great personalities of our hobby that in the great and absolute majority have inspired and supported the new generations of artists and hobbyists in our miniature world. I think many of us in the hobby admire people like Vince, for sharing passion and wisdom. Thank you very much for this video Scott, it's hard sometimes (due to shyness or other barriers) to really thank people like Vince for what they do for the community. This video is a great reflection of that. Inspiration, discipline and fun, what better message than that? I also hope you have a great Christmas Papa-Scott and a great start to 2023.
40-60 hrs painting + 40hr full time job + 40 hrs at 8 hrs of sleep - that's 120-140 hrs already AND then a private life, workout, etc? When!? Does Vincy V's day have 30 hrs or something :o
I did the math. Accounting for Al the hobbying, work, and assuming he sleeps 8 hours a night. He has 12 free hours a week. Let’s assume 10 because of his D&D game, if he works out every other day, with the workout he does, it probably takes around 45 minutes give or take. So down 3 or 4 hours from that. My conclusion: Vince is a higher life form that can do nearly the impossible for time in memoriam. It is better we mere mortals stay out of his way, as his kind will someday grind us beneath the gears of true progress. Or he sleeps less than 8 hours a night, and drinks lots of coffee.

@@variablehunter5090 Does that time account for walking the three large active dogs, cooking/eating, getting *to* work (assuming he doesn't work full-time from home) and having any kind of social interaction? Even just moving to different rooms in the house or going to the bathroom takes an appreciable amount of time over a week if we're going to calculate down to the hour of 'free' time.

I really like Vince Venturella, he helped me a lot in my early stages of hobby painting, which was only a few short years ago, but he really helped take me from simple paint by colors to creating things that wouldn't look out of place being shown off in the FW Horus Heresy catalogue to someone that feels comfortable coming up with his own schemes, using and knowing when to use a variety of styles, an overall sharper quality of miniature painting and most importantly, being able to pick up on things I can improve on and thinking of ways to improve on them on my own, instead of just marveling at something I did, thinking it's the best thing since sliced bread. Also, a lot more respect for Vince now knowing that he makes an effort to exercise and stay in shape. I like to lift weights pretty regularly and I don't think enough hobbyists get enough physical activity in and it's a shame because it messes with productivity. Vince, if you're reading this as I know you really like to look through comments, consider walking regularly if you already don't, very good for cardio without killing yourself and thank you very much sir for the hundreds of videos on advice, thank you Miniac for giving me a little slice of life for the guy who has taken me so far in my skill for absolutely nothing of material value at all
No one does a painting tutorial like Vincey V. The attention to every minor detail is so appreciated (I feel alot of people forget the small things that come naturally to them ) and really helped me fast track my start in the hobby this year.

10/10 video. Vince is the definition of hobby hero to me, great spokesperson, gamer, and painter! FYI rough math for a week as Vince; there are 7 days with 24 hours for 168 hours a week. If he's sleeping about 8 hours a day that's 56 of those hours, 40 for his day job and that golden 60 means that's 156 hours slotted with 12 per week remaining for commuting, eating, exercise, family time, etc. WILD at how efficient he is.
I honestly appreciate all you guys. Y'all inspire me. Hell Scott, yours was the first channel I came across when getting started in the hobby. I binged so many episodes, lol. I have to be honest though. I haven't painted in over two weeks. It's not a lack of time. It's my depression keeping me from something I love. It's been a rough year. But! Here you are giving me the motivation to not let something as useless as depression stop me. I honestly thank you and Ninjon. Y'all inspire me. Sorry for the ramble, needed to get that out. Videogames have me trained to expect instant gratification so painting is tough. I'm going to put in some more time next year and try to be more disciplined about getting things done. Hope you both have a great Xmas and New year. (Sorry about the resin accident btw. That was painful to watch!)
I think it's important to enjoy the process. You get that gratification while painting! This way, it isn't about "getting things done" but more about the art. If you don't enjoy painting (not a problem), that's a different story
I was in the same situation, it's also really refreshing to have a hobby where you have an actual result at the end that you can hold in your hand. I still like achievement hunting in games, it's just a slightly different sense of pride.
Mang, I really needed this. I've been in a goddamed funk for the last 6 months for a lot of reasons. I'm not a competitive painter, but this video reminded me why I love the hobby and why I do it. I miss it. This helped.
Thanks for this one Scott. I started this hobby back in August after getting my first resin printer (which was replaced last week). I was in the local hobby store in the first three months so much that they joked about charging me rent. I said the second trip in that it was a gateway. Printer leads to minis leads to painting leads to more minis leads to more paints leads to larger printer leads to myminifactory leads to tribes, leads to Patreon... and so on. Jon led to you, and you both lead to VInce and Adam, and Dana, and Brent, and so on. Thanks to all of you for murdering my disposal income on a regular basis ;)

This was incredibly wholesome. Vince lives rent-free in my head every time I pick up a brush. He told me that he's "nothing special+ but the effect he's had on my mini-painting journey which in turn has affected my outlook of what I can accomplish has been invaluable. Vince needs to be protected and celebrated at all costs

When I started painting years ago, Sam was my favorite painter. Everything he did, I 'got' it. Over the last six months though, I've had to reconsider as I've continued painting, as how Vince approaches his 'work' and time has bled into how I paint more than any single content creator on the platform. The man is brilliant. I love this video so fucking much. The last two have been fantastic.
Gotta admit Scott, this is probably one of your best and well presented videos to date. Insight into Vince's world as well as his passion has seemed to rub off on you. Taking the time to reflect on why we enjoy doing what we do as a hobby is sometimes the hardest thing to do. Those of us who want to continually get better sometimes forget to enjoy the ride / process that made us get to where we are now. This last monologue at the end is a whole vibe for me. After months of learning how to use a 3d printer combined with boxes of orks I got for Christmas last year (including the holiday box last year) I had in total like 90+ boyz n elites, 4 hqs, a proxy for a gorkanaught, and 4 vehicles..... yea Ive felt a bit overwhlemed. But given what I have going on in my life and not putting too much pressure on myself, I just finished all the troops and elites after like 4 months of painting when I can (minus the bases but Imma do them all at once when I finish everything else). Content like yours, Vinces and Jons have been helping me a lot a I appreciate the hell out of yall
Vince is my lodestone of painting knowledge. Whenever I am struggling I search the archives of his channel and find the video that points me in the right direction.
Seeing Vince's passion really is inspiring. I get back home from work and even though I have motivation to paint I lack the energy. This man makes me want to do a paint marathon
That resin fiasco hurt my soul. It really sucks that that happened. I had a similar incident with highly pigmented red paint and a jammed cap that exploded off when I squeezed it too hard. Not only were my nearby models spattered, but my walls and a bit of my ceiling were as well! Put me off mini painting for a while, but I'm back in it now.
Great video, I like the videos that pull back the excitement of mini painting youtubers a little and just talk about the expectations. If only to remind somone who ( like me ) isn't as far in their journey in the hobby that it's ok to go at a slow pace. That said Vince's judgmental gaze in the thumbnail makes me feel like I'm not doing things to the best of my abilities and I should be ashamed lol Great video Scott Happy Holidays :)
I appreciate your take on the "full time" YT vs. "hobbyist" in regards to some of the vids that are released (paint an army in X time, look at my painted unit that came out today to the public, etc.) As a content creator myself...though WAY down the food chain from the "we all know each other" crowd, I can say with certainty that it is a whole hearted feeling of "keeping up with the jonses" trying to make relevant content while still maintaining a day job/ family time. vs. creators who do this as their full time job. As much as i'd like to say the content creation space is inclusive, there is a huge divide between the "full timers" and those of us who are finding a footing. Personally after trying to reach out to literally the top 20 content creators in this space, only 1 responded, and that response was "i'm too busy". So it's nice to see some acknowledgement that sometimes ya'll come across as a bit flashy and can set the bar a bit high for the rest of us as hobbyists in general. I actually enjoy the more down to earth vids like this, vs. those "can I do X in Y setting" vids, as this style of vid is applicable to the 95 percent of us out there that aren't fortunate enough to make a living from content creation. Keep up the good work Scott, and I hope your fams has an excellent holiday!!!
What hobbyists love are peace and quiet... and a good 5/0 ergonomic detailing brush. Or a new airbrush... or even a cheap makeup brush for dry brushing.
So much in this to comment on: 1. I like the idea of adding a workout aspect. If nothing else, just for the need to get up and move around every hour so that I don’t get cramps. 2. 40-60 hours per week is insane. Maybe when the kids are grown up… 3. That resin slosh is brutal 😢. I’m glad you got it on film 😂. Just like you described on TUP, it really was the perfect wave.
Probably one of the best videos imho you and/or vince have done. Awesome stuff. I enjoy this video more than a lot of your past stuff. The comment about mini entertainment video hits as a lot of youtube mini painting is that. I mean, it's your job though, so I get being a slave to the algorithm to a point. But these sort of real hobby videos are great. Keep it up.
Totally agree with your big point near the end there. I've noticed in music and I've noticed in painting that if you can do something everyday and be intentional with it you will improve. To anyone struggling with how to practice painting I recommend checking out videos on tips for practicing an instrument. There's a lot of good ideas there about how to focus on some specific skill and improve it with daily practice.
I have got back into Hobby Painting after COVID. And I have spent the last year painting an army, and I don't even have enough models done to put them on a table top. But I still find the rare moments I can completely focus on painting are supremely relaxing.
I've learned more, both about mini painting and art in general, from watching Vince over the last few years than I did in nearly three decades in the hobby leading up to watching my first Hobby Cheating video. Thanks for featuring a bit more about him, and thanks for taking a minute to throw some perspective on RUclips vs. Reality in mini painting. As someone who went to college for broadcasting many moons ago, I missed this news style person of interest storytelling that seems to have become passe over the past 10 years or so. This is also just some great wisdom and inspiration going into a new year of painting.

I really enjoy your delivery and the quality and professionalism that you AND Vince put into these videos. I also REALLY enjoy seeing the Camaraderie and the obvious friendships you have in the in the Warhammer/Gaming community, I’m envious. Wish the historical miniatures world had what you guys do.
Vince's words remind of an old saying from some Drum & Bugle corps (forget which one). Their motto was something to the effect of "in the relentless pursuit of the edge". The magic is something that is always just out of reach and when you get closer, it has moved farther away again. Gaining mastery of a thing always reveals more of the potential of the thing. This is a source of joy. For we can always dream.
Thanks for this video. You (both you Scott and Vince) are a constant source of support, ideas, and general good feeling about this hobby. I started painting in 1990 at about 12 years old - with terrible results. There was not much you could learn from - your mates making the same mistakes, some Heavy Metal guidelines from GW, or the "old lore" from model train hobbyists. So thank you and the general miniature painting family. Also: made my day that the outro scared the tar out of my wife :) She'd never heard the Miniac's "paint more minis" yell.
11:27 this is a wonderful video, I enjoy ypur crazy entertainment style vids, but the honesty and encouragement here was really nice to hear. I am brand new to paining and started my first 40k mini painting attempt like 2 weeks ago so it is great to hear my 1 hour here and there between work and family is enough to slowly get into the hobby.
I love this community so much! The level of respect for each other is why you both are some of my favorite to follow, that Jon guy is aight as well I guess ;) lol
I'm a bit of a hobby parasite. I mostly just wait for the more dedicated painters to find and share idiot-proof methods of making models look good in minimal time and spend my limited hobby time doing those. I salute those of you willing to go all in on miniature painting, because you're making it more fun for the rest of us as you go.

The man has been an inspiration to me getting back into the hobby after 30 years. I am lucky to get in 6 hours a week, but I love those 6 hours. Seriously love this hobby, and there is always tomorrow for the next coat.
Dragon Trappers Lodge has consistently been my favorite miniature sculptor as they have never tried to make off brand minis but always make creative sets of new monsters that look good and print well as 3D printed minis. A lot of printing companies make sculpts that look good but don't print well or worse are just tenuous to paint with excessive texture or to miniscule detail.
I draw a lot as well as paint, and one thing has held true for me. It doesn't matter how much I dedicate to that hobby, it's that I just DO IT every day. Even half an hour is still gifting yourself time with something you love! Thanks for the video!
The message in this video really hit me. This kind of mentality really applies to all facets of life and it's that shared struggle that validates my experience as real and meaningful.

A wonderful tribute to Vince for sure. :) I think one of the best things about the hobby as a whole is no matter your current skill level there's always ideas that can be thrown around to inspire one another regardless of you being completely new or a decade veteran of the hobby. Sure, you'll have different end results but as said, it's part of your own journey and I think that's a really important element people often forget. I loved that you touched on how social media or people who hobby full time can put a spin over the everyday hobbyist and the realism of it. So thank you for that and letting people know that's okay to not live up to the glass hype that sometimes gets spun. Brilliant Video, I've spent the last three years painting a sisters of battle army to be proud of for a lifetime and have gained so much experience painting flesh tones and casting bases which will also last my whole life!

I met vince at Gen Con this last year! Absolutely excellent models! It really seems like the (competitive) mini painting hobby is a really fun group! Even if you're not gunning for the top, and you're just happy to be there. I think the biggest thing with hobbying is that there are different definitions of "done". Like, Uncle Atom is gonna be much different than Vince as far as what "done" means and what that means for the quantity and quality of models is. What matters is that you have fun hobbying in whatever way that is for you. Also, this video seems like a great way to make a road trip into a tax write off :D I dig it

Miniac you are one that should not point at Vincent to be intimidating! You are a beast when it comes to painting, and it even gets more intimidating to know you have no golden demon to show off. If it hadnt been for Uncle Atom you would have scared me out of the hobby, before I really came back in. I didnt understand that its not talent, but your passion and tenacity and pure joy that made you reach that level of painting ability! Auuugh! Resin splash of doom!! I want to win painting competitions, finish armies, and put my painting on RUclips. I know why I don’t though - I have a career and a family I love, and with 24 hours in a day, something’s got to give. The thing I can do is paint a bit each night, and not worry that I’m probably not going to make it to Adepticon again. I’m proud of my painting and enjoy the time I spend, and if that’s as close to the painting life of a Vince or Scott as I can get, then I got there! Wow. I can see my house from here. Awesome video!
In regards to the dialogue on hobby time for individuals and youtubers alike. I'd like to represent the hobbyists out there with very young kids. My time spent on hobbying when I had my first fell off a cliff. Just when my first was getting old enough to leave me be for half an hour, we had our second. It's been over 4 years that I've had a completely derailed hobby schedule. Games, painting, you name it. I don't regret it at all. But it's important for people with kids to tell themselves that it's fine....for NOW.....getting 15-20 minutes in every couple days with a brush is completely normal. I don't know if any of the popular youtubers have kids, but I'd love one day to hear their take on tackling this kinda time management.

@@variablehunter5090 Does that time account for walking the three large active dogs, cooking/eating, getting *to* work (assuming he doesn't work full-time from home) and having any kind of social interaction? Even just moving to different rooms in the house or going to the bathroom takes an appreciable amount of time over a week if we're going to calculate down to the hour of 'free' time.
I spend a good 4hrs per week just sitting in the bathroom watching videos like this

I really like Vince Venturella, he helped me a lot in my early stages of hobby painting, which was only a few short years ago, but he really helped take me from simple paint by colors to creating things that wouldn't look out of place being shown off in the FW Horus Heresy catalogue to someone that feels comfortable coming up with his own schemes, using and knowing when to use a variety of styles, an overall sharper quality of miniature painting and most importantly, being able to pick up on things I can improve on and thinking of ways to improve on them on my own, instead of just marveling at something I did, thinking it's the best thing since sliced bread.
Also, a lot more respect for Vince now knowing that he makes an effort to exercise and stay in shape. I like to lift weights pretty regularly and I don't think enough hobbyists get enough physical activity in and it's a shame because it messes with productivity. Vince, if you're reading this as I know you really like to look through comments, consider walking regularly if you already don't, very good for cardio without killing yourself and thank you very much sir for the hundreds of videos on advice, thank you Miniac for giving me a little slice of life for the guy who has taken me so far in my skill for absolutely nothing of material value at all
No one does a painting tutorial like Vincey V. The attention to every minor detail is so appreciated (I feel alot of people forget the small things that come naturally to them ) and really helped me fast track my start in the hobby this year.

10/10 video. Vince is the definition of hobby hero to me, great spokesperson, gamer, and painter! FYI rough math for a week as Vince; there are 7 days with 24 hours for 168 hours a week. If he's sleeping about 8 hours a day that's 56 of those hours, 40 for his day job and that golden 60 means that's 156 hours slotted with 12 per week remaining for commuting, eating, exercise, family time, etc. WILD at how efficient he is.
I honestly appreciate all you guys. Y'all inspire me. Hell Scott, yours was the first channel I came across when getting started in the hobby. I binged so many episodes, lol.
I have to be honest though. I haven't painted in over two weeks. It's not a lack of time. It's my depression keeping me from something I love. It's been a rough year. But! Videogames have me trained to expect instant gratification so painting is tough. I'm going to put in some more time next year and try to be more disciplined about getting things done. Hope you both have a great Xmas and New year.

I think it's important to enjoy the process. You get that gratification while painting! This way, it isn't about "getting things done" but more about the art. If you don't enjoy painting (not a problem), that's a different story
I was in the same situation, it's also really refreshing to have a hobby where you have an actual result at the end that you can hold in your hand. I still like achievement hunting in games, it's just a slightly different sense of pride.

Thanks for this one Scott. I started this hobby back in August after getting my first resin printer (which was replaced last week). I was in the local hobby store in the first three months so much that they joked about charging me rent. I said the second trip in that it was a gateway. Printer leads to minis leads to painting leads to more minis leads to more paints leads to larger printer leads to myminifactory leads to tribes, leads to Patreon... and so on. Jon led to you, and you both lead to VInce and Adam, and Dana, and Brent, and so on.

This was incredibly wholesome. Vince lives rent-free in my head every time I pick up a brush. He told me that he's "nothing special+ but the effect he's had on my mini-painting journey which in turn has affected my outlook of what I can accomplish has been invaluable. Vince needs to be protected and celebrated at all costs

When I started painting years ago, Sam was my favorite painter. Everything he did, I 'got' it. Over the last six months though, I've had to reconsider as I've continued painting, as how Vince approaches his 'work' and time has bled into how I paint more than any single content creator on the platform. The man is brilliant.

Gotta admit Scott, this is probably one of your best and well presented videos to date. Insight into Vince's world as well as his passion has seemed to rub off on you. Taking the time to reflect on why we enjoy doing what we do as a hobby is sometimes the hardest thing to do. Those of us who want to continually get better sometimes forget to enjoy the ride / process that made us get to where we are now. This last monologue at the end is a whole vibe for me. After months of learning how to use a 3d printer combined with boxes of orks I got for Christmas last year (including the holiday box last year) I had in total like 90+ boyz n elites, 4 hqs, a proxy for a gorkanaught, and 4 vehicles..... yea Ive felt a bit overwhlemed. But given what I have going on in my life and not putting too much pressure on myself, I just finished all the troops and elites after like 4 months of painting when I can (minus the bases but Imma do them all at once when I finish everything else). Content like yours, Vinces and Jons have been helping me a lot a I appreciate the hell out of yall

That resin fiasco hurt my soul. It really sucks that that happened. I had a similar incident with highly pigmented red paint and a jammed cap that exploded off when I squeezed it too hard. Not only were my nearby models spattered, but my walls and a bit of my ceiling were as well! Put me off mini painting for a while, but I'm back in it now.

Great video, I like the videos that pull back the excitement of mini painting youtubers a little and just talk about the expectations. If only to remind somone who ( like me ) isn't as far in their journey in the hobby that it's ok to go at a slow pace. That said Vince's judgmental gaze in the thumbnail makes me feel like I'm not doing things to the best of my abilities and I should be ashamed lol

I appreciate your take on the "full time" YT vs. "hobbyist" in regards to some of the vids that are released (paint an army in X time, look at my painted unit that came out today to the public, etc.) As a content creator myself...though WAY down the food chain from the "we all know each other" crowd, I can say with certainty that it is a whole hearted feeling of "keeping up with the jonses" trying to make relevant content while still maintaining a day job/ family time. vs. creators who do this as their full time job.
As much as i'd like to say the content creation space is inclusive, there is a huge divide between the "full timers" and those of us who are finding a footing. Personally after trying to reach out to literally the top 20 content creators in this space, only 1 responded, and that response was "i'm too busy". So it's nice to see some acknowledgement that sometimes ya'll come across as a bit flashy and can set the bar a bit high for the rest of us as hobbyists in general.
I actually enjoy the more down to earth vids like this, vs. those "can I do X in Y setting" vids, as this style of vid is applicable to the 95 percent of us out there that aren't fortunate enough to make a living from content creation.

What hobbyists love are peace and quiet... and a good 5/0 ergonomic detailing brush. Or a new airbrush... or even a cheap makeup brush for dry brushing.
So much in this to comment on:
1. I like the idea of adding a workout aspect. If nothing else, just for the need to get up and move around every hour so that I don’t get cramps.
2. 40-60 hours per week is insane. Maybe when the kids are grown up…
3. That resin slosh is brutal 😢. I’m glad you got it on film 😂. Just like you described on TUP, it really was the perfect wave.
Probably one of the best videos imho you and/or vince have done. Awesome stuff. I enjoy this video more than a lot of your past stuff. The comment about mini entertainment video hits as a lot of youtube mini painting is that. I mean, it's your job though, so I get being a slave to the algorithm to a point. But these sort of real hobby videos are great. Keep it up.
Vince is literally the GOAT of mini painting. His videos have been essential for becoming a better painter.
Totally agree with your big point near the end there. I've noticed in music and I've noticed in painting that if you can do something everyday and be intentional with it you will improve.
To anyone struggling with how to practice painting I recommend checking out videos on tips for practicing an instrument. There's a lot of good ideas there about how to focus on some specific skill and improve it with daily practice.
I have got back into Hobby Painting after COVID. And I have spent the last year painting an army, and I don't even have enough models done to put them on a table top. But I still find the rare moments I can completely focus on painting are supremely relaxing.

As someone who went to college for broadcasting many moons ago, I missed this news style person of interest storytelling that seems to have become passe over the past 10 years or so.
This is also just some great wisdom and inspiration going into a new year of painting.

I also REALLY enjoy seeing the Camaraderie and the obvious friendships you have in the in the Warhammer/Gaming community, I’m envious. Wish the historical miniatures world had what you guys do.
Vince's words remind of an old saying from some Drum & Bugle corps (forget which one). Their motto was something to the effect of "in the relentless pursuit of the edge". The magic is something that is always just out of reach and when you get closer, it has moved farther away again.
Gaining mastery of a thing always reveals more of the potential of the thing. This is a source of joy. For we can always dream.

I started painting in 1990 at about 12 years old - with terrible results. There was not much you could learn from - your mates making the same mistakes, some Heavy Metal guidelines from GW, or the "old lore" from model train hobbyists. So thank you and the general miniature painting family.

11:27 this is a wonderful video, I enjoy ypur crazy entertainment style vids, but the honesty and encouragement here was really nice to hear. I am brand new to paining and started my first 40k mini painting attempt like 2 weeks ago so it is great to hear my 1 hour here and there between work and family is enough to slowly get into the hobby.
I love this community so much! The level of respect for each other is why you both are some of my favorite to follow, that Jon guy is aight as well I guess ;) lol
I'm a bit of a hobby parasite. I mostly just wait for the more dedicated painters to find and share idiot-proof methods of making models look good in minimal time and spend my limited hobby time doing those. I salute those of you willing to go all in on miniature painting, because you're making it more fun for the rest of us as you go.

Vince is an absolute legend!
The man has been an inspiration to me getting back into the hobby after 30 years. I am lucky to get in 6 hours a week, but I love those 6 hours. Seriously love this hobby, and there is always tomorrow for the next coat.
Dragon Trappers Lodge has consistently been my favorite miniature sculptor as they have never tried to make off brand minis but always make creative sets of new monsters that look good and print well as 3D printed minis.
A lot of printing companies make sculpts that look good but don't print well or worse are just tenuous to paint with excessive texture or to miniscule detail.
I draw a lot as well as paint, and one thing has held true for me. It doesn't matter how much I dedicate to that hobby, it's that I just DO IT every day. Even half an hour is still gifting yourself time with something you love! Thanks for the video!
The message in this video really hit me. This kind of mentality really applies to all facets of life and it's that shared struggle that validates my experience as real and meaningful.

I think one of the best things about the hobby as a whole is no matter your current skill level there's always ideas that can be thrown around to inspire one another regardless of you being completely new or a decade veteran of the hobby. Sure, you'll have different end results but as said, it's part of your own journey and I think that's a really important element people often forget. I loved that you touched on how social media or people who hobby full time can put a spin over the everyday hobbyist and the realism of it. So thank you for that and letting people know that's okay to not live up to the glass hype that sometimes gets spun.

It really seems like the (competitive) mini painting hobby is a really fun group! Even if you're not gunning for the top, and you're just happy to be there.
I think the biggest thing with hobbying is that there are different definitions of "done". Like, Uncle Atom is gonna be much different than Vince as far as what "done" means and what that means for the quantity and quality of models is. What matters is that you have fun hobbying in whatever way that is for you.
Also, this video seems like a great way to make a road trip into a tax write off :D I dig it

This was fantastic. Great advice that also just applies to ANY hobby or interest you have. Particularly about viewing the journey differently and not always just looking at the destination. Both can and should be equally satisfying.

I once based a model in Valhallan Blizzard and used the same brush to touch up a large area of the torso. Crusty paint everywhere when I came back to it in the morning.

I want to win painting competitions, finish armies, and put my painting on RUclips. I know why I don’t though - I have a career and a family I love, and with 24 hours in a day, something’s got to give. The thing I can do is paint a bit each night, and not worry that I’m probably not going to make it to Adepticon again. I’m proud of my painting and enjoy the time I spend, and if that’s as close to the painting life of a Vince or Scott as I can get, then I got there! Wow. I can see my house from here.

In regards to the dialogue on hobby time for individuals and youtubers alike. I'd like to represent the hobbyists out there with very young kids. My time spent on hobbying when I had my first fell off a cliff. Just when my first was getting old enough to leave me be for half an hour, we had our second. It's been over 4 years that I've had a completely derailed hobby schedule. Games, painting, you name it. I don't regret it at all. But it's important for people with kids to tell themselves that it's fine....for NOW.....getting 15-20 minutes in every couple days with a brush is completely normal. I don't know if any of the popular youtubers have kids, but I'd love one day to hear their take on tackling this kinda time management.
