Kasey is an award winning country singer and the youngest ever inducted into the ARIA hall of fame in Australia. Covid lockdown afforded Kasey time to re-invent Lose Yourself which was a favourite song of hers. This performance was done at the end of her tour where she officially recorded it but not videoed. As for the performance, if you took a moment to stop wondering why she knew the lyrics (thats sorta what singers do) and focussed on how she was delivering the lyrics, where she was emphasising, where she turned up the emotion, youd see the similarities in the storyline, just told from a different emotional viewpoint. Rather than rage and motivation, it was more pain amd despair. Kasey has faced similar obstacles to Eminem, so she really felt this song in her core and you couls see that by how she performed it. I dont know what's so confusing about that?
There’s a difference between listening to a song and hearing it. There’s a difference between knowing the words and understanding them. The movie the song is from is ultimately a triumph, but it’d be a short, boring movie without the trials and tribulations along the way. Eminem manifested the energy and the excitement. Kasey manifested the pain and the anger. Rap performances simply don’t have room to convey the range of emotion that the human voice as an instrument is capable of. There’s nothing to be confused about here. The song lyrics describe a journey of failures leading to success. This performance manifests that superbly. All without a backing track.
Dead right rap is held hostage by the tempo. In the original there is a shift in intensity to some degree but not in the way Kasey does it. It's hard to portray anguish and dispair at 100 miles an hour (or maybe even 8 miles an hour)
@@briangill4000No, rap isn't being held by anything. We get every emotion a Rap artist is trying to convey. A artist don't have to express all the emotions in the song for us to grasp the message. I knew what Eminem was trying to express even without this rendition. I believe it's just a matter of personal taste.
Eminem heard this, loved it and gave her permission to put it up on Spotify. Kasey is a huge fan of Eminem. In my opinion that is what a cover should be. An award winning song that was perfect in it's entirety. Kasey has made a brilliantly written song and made it her own. That would have been so hard to do especially live where there was no room for error. Loved it. 👏👏👏👏
You wouldn't be confused if you had a real appreciation for music and two ears attached to a heart. Also "I can't believe she knows so much of this song" have you ever been to a show and seen the performer stop half way through and say " thats all we know of that song, now here's 25% of Sweet Home Alabama." 😂
I think you might have been expecting a karaoke version of Lose Yourself. Instead you got a rearranged song using the original amazing lyrics which has resulted in many reactors I've seen using the word "goosebumps" . It really is outstanding in most people's minds.
You've gotta understand Australian radio is not the same as is in the the States. They'll play Eminem on the same station as the Spice Girls, ACDC, Green Day and even Casey Chambers..
"She's making it emotional" are you kidding! Do YOU even know the song. The lyrics are amazing and VERY emotional. The F word has always been... Maybe you have only heard the edited radio version
there is nothing confusing about this interpretation of Lose Yourself by Kasey Chambers. Pull the wadding out of your ears and take off your blindfold. When you review music you need to leave your prejudices and preconceptions at the door.
What you clearly failed to realise was the audience was seated and quiet because they were in awe of Kasey's performance. They respected her art and just wanted to listen and appreciate it. It has been reported that Eminem liked it enough to lift copyright on it so she could add it to spotify, so I'm not sure what there is to be confused about. It's one artist putting their own spin on a song they have lot in common with and respect for, resulting in a great cover.
You are the first American to be confused, as every American who’s reviewed it, even rappers loved it. Eminem has clearly heard this - but not only that, he graciously gave Kasey Chambers permission to upload her version to Spotify. That’s really saying something.
This has got to be the best cover of all time. She is a Bluegrass/Country singer in Australia. She took a 20 year old rap song, tore it to shreds, & made it her motherfucking own!!! The anguish in this performance is on another level! After touring with her family's The Dead Ringer Band from the age of 9, she went solo. Her debut album was critically acclaimed, yet radio staions wouldn't play her songs, so her early solo career mirrored Eminem's, which is why she chose this song. Her song, Am I Not Pretty Enough was her big fuck you to the radio stations. Ironically, it became her first hit, played on every radio station in the country. Youngest woman to be inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame. Now you understand why she feels this song? Kasey is a huge Eminem fan & during the Covid conspiracy she spent the time in lockdown reworking this song. She sprung it on the audience. This video is the first time she performed this song.. After the response she got, she asked the audience members to send her the footage, that she compiled into this video. Eminem has heard it & granted her permission to add it to her Spotify. Her father is playing the pedal steel guitar, & her brother is on lead guitar
I'm not a big fan of country music (I like it and will do it at karaoke, but I won't go out of my way tp listen to it) and I don't really like rap at all (the radio stations play it and, on occasion, I have heard some)! This, however, is a fucking masterpiece. Never heard such hard language in a song before? And you wonder how she knows so many of the words? Just those two things make me wonder how much you know about real life! I have a feeling that you think Australian's don't know what rap is... WAKE UP! We know and produce rap (and many other styles of music) and have even had songs from the 1980's sampled in US rap "music". Oh, and by the way, the two instances where the word 'motherfucking' is in this version of the song are in the movie version, so I guess you haven't heard that... And the fact that you've done a reaction to Kelly Clarkson - yeah, you don't know much at all!!!
She performed this at the end of her concert With her band of 25 years. She love good writers hence Eminem is a favorite. She finally had time to create this arrangement furring Covid lock down. This is a concert hall with fixed seats. When staring her band - she struggled getting airtime and wrote “Am I Not Pretty Enough “ in protest. She know is quite famous in her home country of Australia with many awards. Her band is country veering into folk and rock. ❤❤❤❤❤
"I was playing in the beginning, and the mood all changed..." She designed this version of 'Loose Yourself' around those words that Eminem wrote so long ago! The first phase was folk, the second country and the last pure rock and roll, talk about a change of mood, and then to loose yourself in the performance!
I think that you are confused about the meaning of the song. Maybe you need to watch 8 Mile to understand the lyrics. It's a song about someone struggling to reach their dreams in music, and the redemption of the moment in life when it counts. Kasey like many musician can relate to the lyrics and brought the emotion that connects to her. Eminem lyrics is the story and Kasey just relived it.
"She knows all the words?" 🤣🤣🤣Of course she does, no professional singer would go onstage without knowing what she is going to sing. That Old Guy is her Dad on the lap guitar. It is a seated venue, no space for mosh. The crowd was in awe, many had their phones out recording, which is where the video comes from. I heard you say no more of these requests. So you would cut yourself off from artists that don't fit your groove? That's not the way to build your channel. Sleep on that one? You were asleep!
It’s simple. Go look at pretty much every other reaction to this video. Then, go watch it again from start to finish, without talking. Then, come back and apologise…
Kasey love's Em, and is herself a celebrated artist with an amazing back catalogue. Check some other reactions to this cover and you will be surprised at the accolades it receives
You make a lot of assumptions young fella and seem to have no idea !! It confuses you ? you seem easily confused, so why not go check out what knowledgable reactors have had to say about this outstanding performance
Agreed, very immature. I don’t mind if he doesn’t like it but he didn’t actually listen to it. Talked over it, stopped it 50 times. He missed the emotion behind her performance.
You seemed somewhat overwhelmed by her performance which came across as negative by some but l did hear some appreciation of this unique reworking of Eminem’s iconic song. Most covers stick to the original formula as Kelly Clarkson did but where is the magic in that, it’s simply cloning a song. Kudos to Kasey being innovative and putting herself out there in crossing genres from Country in this performance.
I don't understand what you're confused about either. It's as though you have been trained to listen to music genres and are confused when they merge or travel into other lanes. The trouble with processed music today is that you can literally get AI to write and play songs but they all sound exactly as you'd expect them to sound. It's just a factory churning out product. Creativity goes beyond the processed music and sure, not everyone likes it which is fine, but to be confused? That I don't get.
The crowd was stunned as it was the first time she had sung the song.. it is at an entertainment centre .. no mosh pit..the emotion and electricity of the crowd was palpable
This was performed in a seated theater where you aren't allowed to stand up and block the view of others. She brought the emotion and soul to EMINEM's lyrics. It made me appreciate the lyrics even more. EMINEM loved it and gave her the rights to post it on Spotify.
I had no idea Kasey Chambers could do that. Remakes the entire song. No doubt the crowd aren't rap fans - only a few people recognized the song near the start. A truly great performance. Thanks.
More than a few would’ve recognised the song.. people listen to all kinds of music, not just one genre, and Lose Yourself was played repeatedly when it came out. They’re sitting because it’s a seated theatre, but mostly because they’re in awe.
Kasey is an Aussie icon, and she has never, ever conformed to pressure from the music industry to be “normal”. Kasey is the youngest ever artist to be inducted to the ARIA Hall of Fame. Kasey is a massive Eminem fan, as a lot of us in Australia are, and this version is the product of her love for the song and Covid lockdown. Also.. Kudos to Kasey’s Dad on slide…makes it even more awesome! ❤ Don’t think that the audience ever thought this was original, we aren’t that dumb here in Aus! They were just dumb struck that Kasey took this on, out of her normal genre and she absolutely killed it! Kasey is always best live…she puts her heart and soul into every single performance, this was no exception!
Caleb you need to really sit down and listen again to this cover brother. There's absolutely nothing confusing about this masterpiece. Tracey rearranged one of her favorite songs and brought out raw emotion. The song climaxed 3 times and in the end she left it all on the stage. From the beginning she started slow emphasizing on the struggle of frustration and pain emotions, and then at the end she displayed defiance, power, and victory. Her vocals were haunting, raspy and brought out a lot of emotion that you couldn't possibly get from a rap song. I've watched many reactions to this song and all the reactors are in awe of this performance. I guess it's not your cup of tea.
sitting down .. No... Spellbound ...YES! it didn't meet your expectations... ok.. you don't meet mine! go back and enjoy Kelly Clarkson's rendition.. lol
This reaction is like the time I brought my mom to a fancy sushi restaurant and she ate every dish the wrong way and then wasn't that impressed 😅 oh well you can't please everyone 🤷♂️. This might be the best live performance I've ever seen.
That was such a closed minded immature reaction to artistic expression. I’m a huge Eminem fan, he blessed it to be posted to Spotify. It’s virtually gone viral for the interpretation and the talent. You said there’s nothing else you can say and to that I say “thank God”. This review said far more about you than it did Kasey Chambers. Grow up.
Why do you assume those Australian country fans don't know other genres, just because you don't recognise songwriters outside what you know? Kudos for you to want to experience something new, but don't assume that others haven't already made that journey.
Hmmmmm… Eminem, the dude who is known for not giving other artists rights to his songs gave Kasey rights to record and make money off her version after seeing this!!! That is a damned big thumbs up in my books!!!! ❤
Kasey Chambers is an accomplished Australian country singer-songwriter, who refuses to limit her musical expression no matter where it takes her; her 2001 hit single Not Pretty Enough is a commentary on the reluctance of mainstream radio stations towards playing her music, although she successfully tours and has won multiple awards and accolades for her work. In 2017 she released a song she says 'wrote her', Ain't No Little Girl is said to answer questions raised by Not Pretty Enough; it is also the song she says "is the glue that holds her life together", "that's a lot on glue!".
If you want be a reactor and receive respectful commment I suggest you inform yourself on the wonders of music of all persuasions and that other country and artists should be given respect weather's it's your cup of tea or not
You know Eminem is only 4 years older than her right? She is part of his generation. Trust me everyone around that age knows the lyrics to it. And the song is twenty plus years old so there has been a chance for others to learn the words as well. I don’t think you even gave it a chance, to not see the beauty and creativity of this version. Same lyrics, different musical style but still the power to make the listener feel. It’s like Trent Reznors and Johnny Cash with Hurt, both come at it differently
Remember, this is in a civic theatre not an auditorium or arena, this performance is up close and personal; the greatest respect an audience can give an artist is utter silence and attention, these scenarios are a rarity in that the audience is completely spellbound.
Kasey really loved this song she sang the first two verses slower as they were in the third person, the third verse is in first person hence the voice.
Kasey is a huge Eminem fan, she took the time during Covid lockdown to rework the his rap song; it maybe Eminem's words but she made it her own, you can tell that she's lived it by the emotion she puts into her performance. Where Eminem's rap approach is more reactive, Kasey's approach is more emotive; such is the difference between the original and her version, that she was given permission to upload this performance to Spotify in it's own right.
Ahhh i think i see the problem Kaleb.. i read through the comments to try to see what caused your 'reaction to comments' video you made after this one. It took a while and considering im an aussie, i found the comments very restrained and articulate for the most part. I have seen what Aussies are capable of when they seriously want to tear you a new one and these comments were NOT that. I myself found your comments or reactions to her even knowing the words and the arrangements change of cadence, a little insulting considering most of those commenting AND Kasey, were actually around and of an age to be partying to the song when it was originally released by Eminem. Although I am sure you did not purposely go out of your way to offend a whole nation but Aussies as a whole are quite a reactive mob and proud in our defense of anything we hold dear.. to equate it in terms you may better understand.. to dis Kasey Chambers to an Aussie, unwittingly or not, is like us dissing Beyonce .. i think when hosting a youtube 'reacting to music' channel where you are looking a clips from around the actual World, not just around your world, being only America, it might pay to bear in mind that simply because you have not heard of an artist doesnt mean they dont garner your respect. Just saying.. this might aid in future 'reaction'videos you make. Age and time and an appreciation of other culters plays a part. You are doing a good job which will only get better as time passes. Keep up the good work. Dont give air to the negativity ❤
LOL, was laughing my butt off when you paused it a couple of seconds before the second transition and talked about it needing to change up. If you want to see Kasey in her normal wheelhouse, try 'Aint no Little Girl' from her. As with all Australian artists, live will be better. I love her for her willingness to show the world her heart as she performs. ruclips.net/video/OeWzXIkA8Rg/видео.html
Perhaps next time you have to sleep on a video, don't post it until you have slept. Put an intro in, asking viewers to watch for your 2nd day thoughts at the end of your reaction. I just watched the last 3rd of your reaction again, and you do seem to like the rendition, but cannot process it yet. Do not say you like it if you don't. Disingenuous reactions are the best way to kill your channel. But don't post anything where you sit on the fence like this.
What negative rude comments. So Aussies are reacting to his negative rude remarks but we’re the ones being negative?!🙄 Maybe he should’ve had some respect for Kasey!
Wow.. I’ve watched DOZENS of reviews of this clip, and yours is the ONLY negative one I’ve seen. The talent it takes to pull apart an award winning song and put your own spin on it, as well as crossing over genres in the same song shows absolute talent and respect not only for Eminem’s music but her own music expression. The crowd is sitting and listening because EVERYONE knows Eminem’s version, and they know the effect of Kasey’s version will blow their minds. I know this because I saw her live in a small country town pub performing this, and the effect was EXACTLY the same. “Who is this band?” Kasey’s band consists of friends and her own family. The guy playing the slide guitar is her father, her brother contributes to her music both performing and mixing, and given this was a while back, her kids now perform with her. Just a suggestion, get to know the artist before you dis them. I really hope you researched Kasey herself after this reaction, because you are sadly missing the heart of this performer.

He seems very young. Although my 10 year old grandson got it at first hearing.
As usual, if it’s not North American they don’t care
@@margaretheard9628 🤭
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime...and you blew it.🤣
This reaction is ridiculous.
Brilliant. Boom !
Dead right rap is held hostage by the tempo. In the original there is a shift in intensity to some degree but not in the way Kasey does it. It's hard to portray anguish and dispair at 100 miles an hour (or maybe even 8 miles an hour)
💯
Instead you got a rearranged song using the original amazing lyrics which has resulted in many reactors I've seen using the word "goosebumps"
. It really is outstanding in most people's minds.
Simple is as simple does…
You've gotta understand Australian radio is not the same as is in the the States. They'll play Eminem on the same station as the Spice Girls, ACDC, Green Day and even Casey Chambers..
I get the feeling you get confused OFTEN and easily. That was amazing
He was surprised that an Australian knows how to swear!!!!
🤣🤣🤣 learned how to swear when I moved to Oz from mid West USA. "Good gravy" & "geez" just doesn't cut it anymore.
He obviously doesn't know many of us then 😂
@@roslynjonsson2383 He doesn't seem to know much about anything and especially music.

Thanks, well said, although people want to reward Kasey's performance, I think a thumbs down for the reaction is fair.
well said
She was listening to Eminem before you were born.
She walks you through the pain- builds- processes the pain - builds- defies the pain and hypes you up. ❤❤❤❤❤
That reaction hurt my head
What you don't think someone from Australian would know a Eminem song.
Can this guy find Australia on a map? 😂
@@maryhurley5884 He couldn't find his arsehole with both hands.
Man, I stopped listening to YOU at the halfway point…why would she not swear when they are the lyrics ffs?
Simon Cowel - "When the audience goes completely silent during a performance... you know that you nailed it!"
Well said. Kasey has lived the lyrics. Which is why it's so emotionally charged.
She took the song from Eminem and owned it, its hers now xo
Kasey love's Em, and is herself a celebrated artist with an amazing back catalogue. Check some other reactions to this cover and you will be surprised at the accolades it receives
You make a lot of assumptions young fella and seem to have no idea !! It confuses you ? you seem easily confused, so why not go check out what knowledgable reactors have had to say about this outstanding performance
The biggest indictment of your reaction was that Em himself loved this cover and allowed her to monetize on Spotify..
You need to listen again. The flow was messed up so bad, in every good spot from pausing. Eminem gave her props.
Suggestion - A year from now, listen again. Obviously not ready. 😢
when he grows up?
Agreed, very immature. I don’t mind if he doesn’t like it but he didn’t actually listen to it. Talked over it, stopped it 50 times. He missed the emotion behind her performance.
Think he needs more than a year.
She put it all in. He said, 'meh.' Sad.
All so as a musician this is a masterpieces whatever your personal musical taste may be so respect the artistry if nothing else
I'm sorry but I think this is the least knowledgeable reaction I have ever heard on RUclips and thats saying something
The kid is a feckless clod
I don't understand what you're confused about either. It's as though you have been trained to listen to music genres and are confused when they merge or travel into other lanes. The trouble with processed music today is that you can literally get AI to write and play songs but they all sound exactly as you'd expect them to sound. It's just a factory churning out product. Creativity goes beyond the processed music and sure, not everyone likes it which is fine, but to be confused? That I don't get.
The crowd was stunned as it was the first time she had sung the song.. it is at an entertainment centre .. no mosh pit..the emotion and electricity of the crowd was palpable
if he had played the video right thru, he would have seen and heard the audience reaction.
This was performed in a seated theater where you aren't allowed to stand up and block the view of others. She brought the emotion and soul to EMINEM's lyrics. It made me appreciate the lyrics even more. EMINEM loved it and gave her the rights to post it on Spotify.
Kasey is so good. Can't watch this commentary to the end. Not worth my time and energy.
Agreed
I totally agree. Maximum disrespect🙄
Comment section says NOOO 😂
I had no idea Kasey Chambers could do that. Remakes the entire song. No doubt the crowd aren't rap fans - only a few people recognized the song near the start. A truly great performance. Thanks.
It was in a seated theatre....not a most pit
No... Spellbound ...YES! it didn't meet your expectations... ok.. you don't meet mine! go back and enjoy Kelly Clarkson's rendition.. lol
The "OLD' Dude on Slide/Steel is Kasey's Father.
Dissapointed that you didn't get it or appreciate it. Unlike many other rappers that are blown away by their reactions
How does she know so much if this song. He said?
Well that sums up America perfectly
To be fair I've watched many Americans reacting to this masterpiece and Caleb is the only one who's confused. The rest all loved it.
Truth.
Without a doubt.

would help if you dindt talk all through it . or worrry about the seating in a theatre. strawberries to pigs comes to mind.
Well, you are American, so that would explain the confusion part. There's a reason why movies and TV shows are dumbed down for American .

You have no idea and "You're lost".
you have perfect timing for pausing precisely at the wrong moment
Your criticism obviously displays you don't know good music when yor hear it. If you dont like it dont listen to it
God knows how you got 23k subs. Definitely won't get mine
Or mine !!!!!!!
Or mine
or. mine.
Aussies make it real.
If you want be a reactor and receive respectful commment
I suggest you inform yourself on the wonders of music of all persuasions and that other country and artists should be given respect weather's it's your cup of tea or not
Man. You somehow managed to stop the song on every single transition that makes this great.
Remember, this is in a civic theatre not an auditorium or arena, this performance is up close and personal; the greatest respect an audience can give an artist is utter silence and attention, these scenarios are a rarity in that the audience is completely spellbound.
get your attention span looked at,
Lmaooo I broke your brain😂😂😂😂😂 glad you checked it out!😊😊
Kasey really loved this song she sang the first two verses slower as they were in the third person, the third verse is in first person hence the voice.
Kasey is a huge Eminem fan, she took the time during Covid lockdown to rework the his rap song; it maybe Eminem's words but she made it her own, you can tell that she's lived it by the emotion she puts into her performance. Where Eminem's rap approach is more reactive, Kasey's approach is more emotive; such is the difference between the original and her version, that she was given permission to upload this performance to Spotify in it's own right.
i once heard a rumour that there are things and people outside the borders of the USA , including music and ways to listen to music from the US .
Just a rumor
Covid rules in Australia...stay seated at gigs possibly still in effect at this gig

"She doesn't look like the person who listens to Em."... 🙄

I'm so confused by his confusion
Not sure about it! Eminem lifted copyright on this version....
