It's actually pretty cool! The idea isn't to "sound like doctors", rather it's to provide insight to our communication skills. We have actors who come in and present themselves as our patients whom we interact with and receive feedback from fellow physicians. The goal is to help us practice our history taking skills, read abstract social cues, understand where miscommunication on behalf of either party can be remedied, etc. It's valuable in the sense that the interactions are low-stakes and we get to learn through trial and error. One of my memorable experiences was practicing how to give bad news to a patient. It aimed to instill empathy into a situation where someone may be hearing the worst news of their life. It may not be the real thing, but it's great practice and helps you improve on your interactions with real patients on the wards.

I’m a PA student and when that girl said it’s like a puzzle yes! That’s why I always say. It’s putting a lot of different pieces together although history and physical is the most important.
My dad was my practice patient a few days before my Step2CS exam. This exam is a clinical skills assessment where you see a number of standardized patients over a day and are graded on it. Anyway, I listened to his heart and heard an irregular, abnormally rapid heartbeat. I ended up telling him to go to the cardiologist because I was pretty sure he had something called Atrial Fibrillation and needed to get treatment. I ended up being correct, and he thankfully is getting treatment for it. Being in medical school is amazing but definitely hits home if you end up finding something wrong in a friend or family member.
Medical School is only the beginning. Residency and fellowships are even harder. And then there is board certifications and licensing. The list goes on. For those who are thinking about it make sure you’re passionate and those who are in the midst of it keep that passion!
I think most importantly its how you can actually balance studies and fun ya know. Being a med school student is actually kinda awesome when i finally learnt to balance both.
finding motivation is the hardest thing to do. as a med school i knew that for sure. but when i have face-to-face time with patient , i find myself happy and really want to help them to be healthy.
No offense but going into medicine is much more lucrative and rewarding than law. You also have way more job security as a doctor than a lawyer. There's currently an over-saturation of lawyers on the market whereas there's nearly a shortage of doctors in America -- particularly in primary care.
I'm currently feeling defeated while studying for STEP 1 and hearing them say it was the worst part of medschool is so validating. Also I can relate to the imposter syndrome hardcore.
Hahaha the doctoring class comment! Literally had my first standardized patient encounter today to learn how to talk like a doctor and it’s so awkward because you want to have normal conversation but you can’t say normal phrases like “please pull down your pants” you have to say “please lower your pants.”
Im starting midwifery in September, and when I was younger I considered medicine, before getting so interested in working with women and childbirth, but it was the dissection that completely put me off
I didn’t go to med school but I’m currently on my last two weeks of nursing school and I felt what the Caucasian girl said at 5:43 . That’s me right now. I’m so burned out, tired, fed up.... i Can see how it would be very easy to give up if this wasn’t truly what I wanted in life.
Take it from someone who survived through a middle tier medical school in Illinois and then a top tier residency program in my specialty in California...do NOT go into medical school unless you are truly passionate about medicine, the human body, and helping people. Do NOT go into medicine for the money or for the prestige because you WILL get burned. The people that excel as a doctor are people who went into the field for the right reasons. Medical school is not easy but it is definitely manageable. Residency is usually where your life takes a hit because it truly messes with your circadian rhythms, your diet, and your ability to have a life outside of working. I was averaging months in a row of working 70-80 hours a week. Trust me when I say that the residency life is hard to make it through if you went into medicine for the wrong reasons.

That's so supportive, I love it💛
I’m in medschool and their experience and lifestyle is so relatable to nearly all med students 😂
“What was your least favorite part of medi-“
*”Step one”*
Why is STEP 1 the most horrific exam of our medical school careers ... it was the worst part of my life - without a doubt 😭 so glad it’s over
and now its pass fail
I’m a nursing student and can I say I related to this so much. It made me proud to be in the healthcare field :’)
I have so much respect for y’all who devote your lives to this field as long as they stay humble and grounded. I honestly wish I had the passion / resilience to get through with med school!
As a student getting ready to enter med school, I found this very uplifting. I can feel their love for medicine and it matches mine ❤
How is it
are you alive ?
how about a nursing school one too (^:
Cassie J my mother's a nurse
@@pirateez5021 that's nice
Yesssss pleasee
Don’t nurses have to do a lot of dirty work though? Cleaning patients private’s and stuff
@@JfaJosephR9 💯😂
can you make law school students do more like these?
A year ago, lawyers answering questions and telling horror stories.
Trust me we're boring af
@@LO-gg6pp lol
I wanted to become a lawyer
But my mom said I cant
My dad said I cant
And in my country women lawyer are less almost 33 percent
Then you wont become 1
It’s insane what they have to do to become a doctor, it’s an insanely huge life time sacrifice. I thought I could do it but it’s too much of a sacrifice. I have enormous respect for them
The only time I finished med school is in a game called bitlife😂
😂😂😂
God Bless All First Responders, Physicians, Nursing Staff, EMS, Emergency room staff, Paramedics, Medicvac, Public Safety, Fire fighters etc. Thanks for Be Selfless and Caring for the Sick especially during this very difficult time period.

That "they already know that you can do it" line was crazy inspiring, and I'm still in high school😂
So uh... i have no intention of studying medicine at all, like it's the last thing I want to do but I'll watch the video lmao
Valeria S me, i want to be a math teacher lol
What about you?
I’m in love with the Asian guy
Amber Black same
Aren't we all
I m in love with u
I’m a medical Librarian and I got so excited to hear that they use Up To Date to diagnose themselves. Use your available resources in med school, guys! 👏🏻
What is a medical Librarian?
1:18 they just cut her off like that 😭😭😭
"nobody really asked me for medical advice-" I felt that
Please do the same with culinary school students!!!
Really, how does Buzzfeed choose people to bring on their videos? You can't help but like all four of them, because they are so honest and willing to express themselves.
I would seriously love it if they could come back again for another video as Residents, and finally as settled doctors!
make this a general series!!! (physics, engineering, law, students etc)
That last bit... It's so real, so many people I talk to in med school feel like they have been wrongly chosen. The last line was so motivating haha, thank you!
"Successfully misdiagnosed myself a bunch of times" 😂🤣😂🤣
I’m a PA student and when that girl said it’s like a puzzle yes! That’s why I always say. It’s putting a lot of different pieces together although history and physical is the most important.
the editing for this was all over the place
i keep coming back to this bc david seems so kind/gentle lol i'd love him as my doc
This helped a lot, I’m going to med school and this motivated me more thanks ♥️
Good luck! Do your best and don't lost motivation, remember it'll be worth it at the end! :)
Think this right...cause it's really difficult. I'm on my fourth year. And omg...I don't know how I get there.
You can do all things through Christ who give you strength
What did you major in undergrad?
Thanks so much guys! And in Biology 😊
THAT DUDE LEGIT WENT TO MY HIGHSCHOOL! I won't say the name, but it's a magnet school with a biomedical science track that I'm in rn 🤣🤣
It's Kaleab
@@firelordOzai3 bruh
PsychoLuv ahah
Lol same wtf???
Medical School is only the beginning. Residency and fellowships are even harder. And then there is board certifications and licensing. The list goes on. For those who are thinking about it make sure you’re passionate and those who are in the midst of it keep that passion!
If I were a patient I would just stay in the hospital if David is going to be my doctor
He is so easy on the eyes. 😍
until they hand you the $25k per day bill, lol.
I think most importantly its how you can actually balance studies and fun ya know. Being a med school student is actually kinda awesome when i finally learnt to balance both.
Wow I want David to be my doctor and best friend. I just wanna talk with him. 🤣 so pleasant my goodness. Lovely voice.
finding motivation is the hardest thing to do.
as a med school i knew that for sure.
but when i have face-to-face time with patient , i find myself happy and really want to help them to be healthy.
You know, there’s always a light at the end of a tunnel.
And sometimes I wish it was a train.
I think every medical school student goes through depression during Step 1 studying.
Well it's pass/fail now, so hopefully people can relax a bit.
Students trying to crack exams to get in med school
Before watching: I can do it
After: You scare me!!!!!
anyone else want to go to law school but doesn’t know if they have the commitment
No! study hard become docta
YourAverageIdiot you sound like my mum
I do but not sure too
I'm not sure if I get you. You mean you don't want to commit to studying every day?
No offense but going into medicine is much more lucrative and rewarding than law. You also have way more job security as a doctor than a lawyer. There's currently an over-saturation of lawyers on the market whereas there's nearly a shortage of doctors in America -- particularly in primary care.
I’m in medical school and I feel like I’m listening to senior classmates/big siblings :’)
The thing that I like the most about doctors is how they are so patient. It's so charming.
this was a year ago 😭 imagine one of them are already residents
Look at all these lovely people making their parents proud. 🥰
Incoming med student here; I am currently both excited and horrified of what I may face in the next seven years in my life (I'm an MBBS not an MD)
I don't know why but you sound Nigerian
I'm currently feeling defeated while studying for STEP 1 and hearing them say it was the worst part of medschool is so validating. Also I can relate to the imposter syndrome hardcore.
I just got accepted and will start classes next year! This was helpful, thank you :)
that girl in the flower shirt is glowing on another level my gawd
Hahaha the doctoring class comment! Literally had my first standardized patient encounter today to learn how to talk like a doctor and it’s so awkward because you want to have normal conversation but you can’t say normal phrases like “please pull down your pants” you have to say “please lower your pants.”
The guy is so on point, 3 months coffee two weeks break right before exams so the caffeine is affective again
I’m confident Kaleab is Ethiopian from how his name is spelled and his features. He’s so cool
Im starting midwifery in September, and when I was younger I considered medicine, before getting so interested in working with women and childbirth, but it was the dissection that completely put me off
them: "oh yeah you practice drawing blood on each other"
me: *NOPE NOPE NOPE I'M DONE BYE*
I didn’t go to med school but I’m currently on my last two weeks of nursing school and I felt what the Caucasian girl said at 5:43 . That’s me right now. I’m so burned out, tired, fed up.... i Can see how it would be very easy to give up if this wasn’t truly what I wanted in life.
Do a law school students one! Loved this one
I salute medical students like they are so intelligent and hardworking
And they save lifes.
David is so me 😂😂😂😂 "I don't know a lot of things"
