You will be okay as long as you major in something challenging as an undergrad! Many people exaggerate how difficult law school is because they majored in easy undergrad degrees like history and poli sci!
property tracer the transition from English or philosophy to law will be challenging. Law is much harder and requires a minimum of 5-8 hours of work per day (including weekends) outside of class in order to excel. English is one of the easiest majors in undergrad and will likely not even require 25 hours of work outside of class the entire week (the busiest weeks will require more). Not saying it cannot be done because there are thousands of law students with English majors that excel. But you won’t be used to the hard work necessary to excel going into law school.
property tracer I recommend majoring in a science, math, or engineering. I did mechanical engineering and law school is easier than my undergrad. I was very prepared and finished at the top of my class. Also, engineering degrees make you very valuable to law firms as tech is expanding. This will help you get a top paying job.
What I will say to this video is: No matter what happened along the way, no matter how much you feel like you had to sell yourself just to survive, no matter how ordinary and inadequate you ended up feeling, go save lives anyway. Because that's why you put yourself through it all to begin with. And you're never going to be happy until you do what you said you were going to do.
i knew this before starting but law school really is a lot of work. at least for me, just doing the readings isn't enough. i have to put in extra hours to brief the cases, review the readings, write notes, and add to my outlines for exams. no time for hobbies. if i do have free time, it's for eating, showering, exercising, or sleeping lol i'm only a 1L and i know it's a steep learning curve but i'm taking it one day at a time.

Let's just be clear - more money doesn't buy more talent as an attorney or litigator. Money does, however, buy access to resources like investigators, assessments, etc. Public Defenders aren't less talented or worse attorneys. They just don't have the budgets they'd love to have to devote to every single client.
@Bekki Magenheim I know the point you were making - I'm just not confident people not familiar with the system would. I'm a PD so I'm pretty protective of my brothers and sisters. We get the "not a real attorney" line all the time - from non-lawyers, obviously. ♥️♥️♥️

Yea this is more for the people who aren’t sure if they should major in law. On the other hand, I love law. I’ve seen example questions from bar exams and my brain immediately starts analyzing it. I start answering the question in my head but there’s still so much I want to know. Knowledge is power. Based on the kind of world we live in today, I feel it’s important to know your rights. I want to help people learn about the law as well. I want to learn all the loopholes, everything there is to know about law which is why I chose it. I’ve seen a few videos of people saying “don’t go to law school” and then mention “only if you’re not sure” well dang, I’m trynna look up information about law school but keep seeing those type of videos only. It’s like no one’s majoring in law cause they genuinely love it like I do

Saf not in law school myself but about to go soon. I was going into business but changed my mind. And what helped me change my mind to law and decide if I could do it was reading law books whether it’s the school house gate, we the corporations, a history of American law, Supreme Court cases themselves etc to see if I actully enjoy reading law stuff. And taking a constitutional law class, and civil of whatever else they have to see if you could actually handle it. Stuff like that helped me. An actual answer for the question abt the different sentencing is mainly to do with plea bargains. If you are convicted guilty in trial, you get the maximum amount of time

I’m 15 and I’ve been wanting to be a lawyer since I was 8. I want to attend law school at Columbia university for my post grad and I’m really nervous from reading these comments😭
You will be okay as long as you major in something challenging as an undergrad! Many people exaggerate how difficult law school is because they majored in easy undergrad degrees like history and poli sci!
Tubby Munchkin really?? i was considering doing either english or philosophy but I think English would be better for me. what would you say?
property tracer the transition from English or philosophy to law will be challenging.
Tubby Munchkin alright, so what major would you recommend to do for my undergrad so I can be better prepared for law school?
property tracer I recommend majoring in a science, math, or engineering.
Darn I know you can do it, keep it up! Nd do you have any revision tips pls?

@@prettylibra I see what you're saying but then he was younger and hadn't even started law school yet.
victoria Just because you’re a lawyer doesn’t mean you respect the law most of the time.

I was a corporate lawyer for 10 years, but realized that i couldnt work 24/7 all week through. So i quit, got me a PHD and now i combine my time between research work, teaching lawschool students and do some work for the authorities from time to time. Today i see how lucky i was that the law found me. I never get tired of wondering about different bigger legal pictures as well as drafting a memorandum or just analyse a supremecourt decission. If anybody should consider going to law school, just do it. But study with structure and make sure to understand the reasons behind a law or a rule. Its a great education and it gives a lots of possibilities.
Hey!! I wanna be a corporate lawyer when im older, can corporate lawyers go part time or anything to minimise hours?
@@jelly458 Hi. Which country do you live in? I work in Norway, and to be a corporate lawyer here you must get a job in a lawfirm who has corporate clients. You start as an associate lawyer for some years and if the partners are satisfied with Your work and effort, and pass the bar-exam after two years, you may advance to a lawyer in the firm. But to get a job in a corporate lawfirm Your grades from lawschool must be top at level. I worked for 10 years in one of the largest firms in Norway. But they want hire people for part time work. My first years i worked 10-14 hours every day, often also in the weekends.

This video really opened my eyes to a lot of stuff. I have always wanted to so something with the law. I first started off getting a degree in criminal justice. Then tried to get into law enforcement, but due to health reasons I couldn't finish. So I changed my direction to the law side. It’s like no one’s majoring in law cause they genuinely love it like I do
I feel that way too but I keep getting scared that I'll suffer from burnout or it'll be too hard etc. etc. But I still really want to consider it as a career option, and I love learning about our government/interpreting laws. I'm going into highschool this year and hopefully I can get some sort of idea as to what field I'm interested in. Furthermore most people don’t do that before law school from what I can tell so it gives you an advantage if you’re reading books and taking some law classes before hand.
