Yk I always think this. We are so easily able to put sleep in the backburner and not prioritise it/disregard it despite knowing that sleep is very important for overall health and body. I guess it has become a norm to sleep less or not have a sleep schedule and if you do prioritise it, you are in a sense looked down upon and considered a 'bad student'.
If you study a STEM course, the sheer workload you have to deal with alongside potentially balancing a part time job and personal life makes it very difficult to have a proper sleep schedule.

Excellent video. We are all striving for financial freedom and a better way of life. It is not difficult to achieve this with wise investing, economical lifestyle, and careful budgeting. I'm pleased I learnt early on to work hard for financial independence.
In my opinion, venturing into a good investment is not just a strategy for generating passive income but a profitable saving method for future expenses. Those who fail to make the right decisions early in life end up regretting it. Nevertheless, investing can be difficult and risky doing it solely, For this reason, I advise seeking help from professionals(financial advisors). I didn't go to harvard but went to another "prestigious" college, and tbh I would get amazing sleep outside of finals week. Like often 10 hours because I would rarely have a class before noon.
Harvard is a great school but studying in this kind of schools doesn’t come cheap, as a student your financial capabilities are limited to your guardians or in other case student loans. Starting up a side investment can be very helpful and would take the burdens of debts and the financial struggles of been a student away.

(I study in Germany) I barely met anyone from my classmates and I moved here from another country to study here. I hope every semester that the next one is going to be in person again, but it just seems hopeless at this stage 😅 I also got social anxiety around new people because of the pandemic, I am soo out of practice how to be around strangers.
I really feel for students in this pandemic. Social interaction with other students and professors is so necessary to get the most out of going to high school & University.
Imagine spending 50k a year on university and not getting it done. Here in Germany we can chill and do whatever we want, but we also only spend around 650€ (around $750) a year on university. If I would spend 50k a year I would make sure I get the best grades and get it done as fast as possible
Once you graduate, you realize that certain conversations are worth more than all of your college classes combined. Being in the company of certain people and learning from them can have a greater effect on your life than memorizing facts enough to pass a test. I wouldn't say degrees are totally useless but education still has a long way to go from hypotheticals to practical real-life skills that can actually make you successful.
0:35 technically saying "im the least competitive person" means ur competing with others to not be a competitive person hence you are a competitive person but since you are the least competitive person you know it makes a paradox

I'm a high-school student and I really wish I could go to this university My school is really bad cs the teachers never try to explain lessons and all so I should repeat all the work that should be done at school alone at home and that's really hard cs it's like tutoring yourself and trying to get new things by yourself and without a help Ps: sorry for my English I'm still learning it
My CS teacher is lazy af. He just skims through PowerPoint slides talking about a data structure, then makes us do assignments online. He hardly interacts with us and doesn't really seem interested in teaching at all. Plus, we're still constantly looking up the official documentation (he wants us to instead of asking him first), so it's not like it's anything you can't learn outside of school . . .
For Harvard students it is easy for them to talk that way, because, they are already there. They made it all the way to the finish line. Either are geniuses, top tier athletes, businesses owners, etc. The A List is Harvards Language!
Maybe when you only want to pass exams even with the lowest grade, you may feel less pressure...but when you want to do everything perfect it gets more difficult. That happened to me, and now I spend way too much more hours studying than before
Honestly, I wasn't surprised at all when he said "I thought it would be harder". Most probably because he is an Indian. I still believe Indians/ Asians are way smarter in studies when compared to the western students. One possible reason could be the syllabus. The syllabus of Indian curriculum is way harder than western syllabuses. Calculators too aren't allowed in Indian syllabus, so brain gets trained from the very beginning.
I still vividly remember when I was a freshman at Princeton and taking a Japanese class where we were practising talking about time... and the ecturer went around the class and asked each person (in Japanese) how many hours they slept each night. Pretty much every one said 4 or 5 hours... So when it got to me, I was super embarrassed to confess I slept 10 hrs every night ! (And still I managed to get good grades, work part-time, go to them gym every day, go off to horse shows with the equestrian team on the weekends, and do a lot / probably too much partying). I think there is quite a big difference between international students vs American students. e.g. in NZ, most of us (unless we are lucky enough to have rich parents) grow up knowing that as soon as we hit 18, we're out on our own and expected to be independent. i.e. move out of home, get a job, pay rent, and - if we go to uni - to fund our studies ourselves. (usually via a student loans for most students, with only limited scholarships which are mostly for those with really good grades). And e.g. when we go to university, while many will spend their first year in a hall of residence, after your first your you will typically spend the rest of your studies renting privately off-campus, working 20 hrs a week to pay your rent, cooking your own food, and so on. So I think we tend to learn time-management etc at an earlier age. Whereas in America the whole 'college fund' thing seems to make a lot college students still be more like children who are dependent on their parents, rather than independent adults like many uni students in other countries. (That was probably one of the most surprising things for me when I ended up studying in the US ...how many college students seemed really dependent on their parents. And not just financially. Like, a lot of my classmates would even have their parents help choose the courses they took?!)
I think you might die from a shock if you visited Europe then haha for us it seems so weird how people just leave their families when they turn 18. Especially in the South we live with our parents up until we get married lol
@@Alain816ived in the UK for a while, and it was much the same as NZ. Indeed, NZ culture of leaving home and becoming independent at 18 largely stems from our country's British heritage...If you are talking about other Countries in Europe though, then sure. I remember when I went to Greece in high school for an international maths competition, meeting students from various other European countries who went to high school till they were nearly 20?! lol.
I feel like Harvard itself is an extremely over rated school. There are amazing universities across America and the world where many people excell and go on to do greater things. Harvard is prestigious, but don't let that fool you, these kids are no smarter than the other top 20 universities of at least America. Go to a school such as M.I.T or UVA and Umich or even Columbia or Princeton and you'll find kids just like the ones in the video. Great minds can come from almost anywhere, students shouldn't have to be in debt 70k a year just to get into the same occupations and jobs as kids who went to in state schools for not even 10k a year.
For international students, private universities are usually the only options we have in the US. They are super expensive but they can and must cover the majority of the fee for admitted students in financial need (majority of foreigners). I personally wanted to apply to great public universities but they charge much more to internationals, and don’t offer any kind of financial aid, making it impossible to afford without big loans :(
Okay honestly, to all the people saying they don’t know their careers, often you know your career if you’re going into such schools and pick your first year courses based off of that.
If someone doesn't know what they want to do when they are eighteen, they probably don't really want to do anything at all. And, in all probability there would be little point in their trying anyway. The most successful people on Earth knew their path by the time they were ten, often long before.
Woww Colby great job! I love your content and any kind of interviewing smart students. Please make it another one. So i can enjoy it at my leisure time. It will be interesting.
“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching, Love like you'll never be hurt, Sing like there's nobody listening, And live like it's heaven on earth.” ― William W. Purkey

You are a great person. A man who provides for his children is the most successful man ever.
I’m shocked that so few has a proper sleep cycle, considering how important sleep is, epsecially for this level of work and studying.
Almost everyone, especially in the sciences has very little sleep because of how much schoolwork needs to be finished.
If I had rich parents and the ability to go to Harvard I wouldn’t be sleeping much either

Harvard is a great school but studying in this kind of schools doesn’t come cheap, as a student your financial capabilities are limited to your guardians or in other case student loans. Starting up a side investment can be very helpful and would take the burdens of debts and the financial struggles of been a student away.

Once you graduate, you realize that certain conversations are worth more than all of your college classes combined. Being in the company of certain people and learning from them can have a greater effect on your life than memorizing facts enough to pass a test.

70k a year!!!
For international students, private universities are usually the only options we have in the US. They are super expensive but they can and must cover the majority of the fee for admitted students in financial need (majority of foreigners).
I personally wanted to apply to great public universities but they charge much more to internationals, and don’t offer any kind of financial aid, making it impossible to afford without big loans :(
Among the ivy league universities it's probably just MIT where students feel frustrated the most. :( It's them who actually don't get sleep.
