As someone who has recently become a university teacher, calling out random people during classes/lectures is literally the WORST way to get students to pay attention. You're motivating the students through fear, which studies show actually decreases the knowledge retained from a class. You need to INSPIRE students to WANT to learn your material. Not just put people on the spot and embaras them into memorizing material.
@@devinterrazas5465 ''can't spell simple words'' The fact that you try to point out people's spelling errors yet don't even know the difference between ''your'' and ''you're'' and can't even spell ''you'' properly would definitely make me have my doubts about you. I mean seriously come on.
As a current law student, I want to comment that we generally actually prefer the classes in which professors cold call. It keeps us accountable in actually doing the readings because we have no assignments except the final at the end of the semester. Also, gunners are a colossal waste of time (people who step on other people to get ahead and raise their hands in class just to get attention). Professors can minimize the impact of gunners on the rest of the class. The young professors I've had who try to encourage participation end up being the least effective because classroom discussion is constantly derailed and we never end up finishing the material that we're supposed to cover. One professor, in fact, had to add extra classes at the end of the semester because she had a participation requirement in her class. It's also important to note that the "material" is actually super unimportant in law school. No lawyers remember any content they learn in law school. What they're trying to teach is actually analysis, discussion, advocacy, argument. The professors are forcing every single student to exercise their brains in a way they would actually do in court in front of a judge. It's really important to be able to articulate an answer to a question that you have no idea what the answer to is because that's actually going to happen a lot of the time in front of judges, opposing counsel, and other adversaries. I think it's just another method of learning. Honestly, I find the cold call method extremely effective. You can definitely see the progress that students make over the semester in the quality of their cold calls. As they get more confident, the cold calls end up being a great confidence booster because they are a true test of your academic progress. Just my two cents.

Ania St.Marthe Hey senior in college here thinking about being a student in Georgia. Georgia has only 5 LAW schools and all are pretty expensive. Emory, GSU , UofGeorgua, John Marshall and Mercer.
In Med school, we had this anatomy exam where you had to walk to 16 different booths, and write down the name of two pointed out structures of body parts laying in a bowl of each booth. There would just be legs and arms and heads cut in half, laying around the exam room in bowls. I felt sick, mostly from being nervous, but also from feeling like I was in a saw movie. Didn't help that the exam room was in the basement with no windows - and the smell. You have two minutes at each booth before having to move forward in the line, and when you reach the last one, you're escorted to an auditorium, where you have to wait till 5 pm to be released, with no electronics whatsoever, so ensure no one can text the students who are entering after you, and spill the beans on what kind of structures are on the exam. We were 250 students who had to do that exam that day. When released, the correct answers was hung on the outside of the auditorium doors, and people rushed out like crazy. Before I could grasp my own situation and go check the answers, I saw people everywhere just balling their eyes out, learning they'd failed. It's particularly heartbreaking, because this class was one of the hardest at the university, and people hadn't seen sunlight, friends and family for 2 months, in preparation for it. University is hard man

I wanted to the law☹️ but my parents forced me to do med school and now I’m a unhappy doctor... but I still have to try my best so that I won’t screw my patient’s lives

I remember my Civil Procedure paper, pulled a two night all nighter,I was pumped on red bull reciting cases all the way to the exam room, then as soon as the paper started and I read the question all the information left my brain I mean everything went black!I excused myself to go to the bathroom and had a panic attack combined with the caffeine rush muttering to myself like some deranged imbecile, I redid the entire unit and never again pulled an all nighter before an exam or drank red bull.Law school was hell!
Much much better and more relaxed,I am an attorney/advocate now and progressing swiftly,I just completed my Masters in International Commercial Law...it's just about consistency and knowing your limitations.
You just explained to us how you lost your soul and now are unable to cry as you are numb to the trauma you faced in Law school. I'm SO EXCITED FOR LAW SCHOOL!!!!
it's meant to break you, lol. But when you screw up in school, you don't ruin someone's life, in real you could, and the judge may not be as forgetful as a professor, they can make life very difficult. So try your best in school, but know it's not the end all. In spite of that, I would never want to go back to school lol.
I promise not everyone in Texas is like that :( People in Texas are much more open-minded than most people might think, but there are still some people out there in tx that like to be stubborn and rude. Maybe it's just less common in North Texas, but idk man :/
Make an architecture and medicine school horror story as well! I am an architecture student, and let me tell you, we don't know what sleep is anymore with all the plates 😭😢
r ** we have this thing called plates, it is like how a building will look like, the concept of it, and the layout. And one building has like 5+ layouts we need to do, each to be done with 15×20 paper (some have more and bigger, mine is already considered as the smallest). Also, we should make a model about how it looks like. All due within a month or less. So yeah, wtf is sleep
Ah, the good old socratic method... I'm in law school in Paris (I'm French) and thankfully the system is quite different :) I'm planning to do my LLM in London though so I'll get to know this traumatising socratic method soon enough haha.
Faruk G dude, i saw so many people cry at the exam times and when the grades come in...it is as they say (just without case law and getting picked out depends on the prof)
in germany you can't go to court if you don't study law in the way that leads to the state examination. we also have law bachlors but they aren't "full lawers" as they can't work in court etc. for example american lawyers also aren't allowed to work here without having to do the full law study. in reverse german lawyers have to do a 2 year thing on top in the usa and can work there fully. it's a bit crazy. here it goes: 1. basic law study - 12 exams + 3 term papers (3 weeks each) -->you have to do it in max. 5 semesters (with also counts in requests for extension) or you are out (and can never study law again (it's forbidden) 2. main law study - 6 exams and 3 term papers (5 weeks each) -->no time limit anymore yay ah, i nearly forgot. you also need a 3 month internship + 1 law in foreign language exam + 1 key qualification exam. 3. speciality - 1 big exam + 1 spoken exam + term paper (5 weeks) -->counts 30% of the state examination (2 tries or you are out forever) 4. state examination --> 3 zivil law exam + 2 public law exams + 1 criminal law exam + 1 spoken exam (2 tries or you are out forever) BUT you still aren't finished. well the study kinda. but you still aren't a full lawyer. 5. two year legal clerkship - with diffrent stations etc. 6. the 2. state examination (2 tries or you are out forever) Then you are finished.
law school is always traumatic, it doesn't matter the country. Here in Chile we don't learn that many cases because we're more theory based but the amount of stress and anxiety you go through everyday is huge
British Law Student here, in my university we don’t get called out, we do get called out in workshops, which is like a 2 hour study group, but we don’t have to worry about lectures. Also, it’s still tough, but it depends on the university you go to, I know Cambridge and Oxford give you an evil amount of work to do.
A lot of my family are actually either restaurant workers or lawyers, so I’ve heard hundreds of horror stories about terrible clients, customers from hell, it’s crazy. Hence why I wanna be a librarian, one of the safer jobs.
Law students operate on constant fear of failure and humiliation
I was a bad student, I'd be honest and say "I didn't do the reading...yet" but nobody judged me because whenever I did talk I said good things haha

Who else hates getting called on when you are not paying attention
ME
Me. I was called once and everyone in my class make fun of me after the class ended :'
UGH YESSS. Like if I don’t have my hand up I don’t know the answer! Ugh
Literally everyone hates that
who doesn't?
Have a nice day if you are reading this. Everyone have the same, bigger or smaller worries than you, and they deal with it. You can do it. I'm a student in medical school so maybe someone here has the same experience with worries as me. :)
Yeah I'm a med student, and it's tricky, but I love interacting with patients so I guess it's worth it :)
OMG it is the same in Spain! I still have a year left and everyday that passes by all I cry and think about it’s dropping school and at the same time about how absolutely excited I am to finally work in my passion! Just remember that at the end it will be worth it. We are here to help the world and evolve as a society.
Ana García Cruces Yes! You'll do great! Last year, last round! You can make it! ☆♡☆
Ana García Cruces voy a empezar derecho en septiembre Y TENGO MIEDO.

Currently in law school. Not for the faintest of hearts.

How old is the average lawyer? I can’t figure out how old these women are.
I got accepted to law school this year, dang!
Craftarita congratulations girl!!
My condolences to your social live

I’m 14, could you possibly tell me what you did?
My Tudor teacher is a lawyer.. and she recommended for none of us to do law, she said she isn’t happy with her job omg
From the (few) lawyers I know, that seems to be a common feeling
Every single lawyer says that
a w Not all.
I work with lawyers. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. says don't go to law school 😂 They have daydreams of career changes
@@aw8758 not really these girls in the video themselves are talking about how bad law "school" is, not the job.. if you watch the other video they say that they love their jobs.
im starting law school in september....
medi jones-williams You'll do great! Just remember to keep up with the reading...somehow...but you'll do great!

I feel like whichever field you choose and go to that college..... STUDY will always make you cry!! All courses are hard Af
This video honestly made me feel so much better about myself, two weeks ago I burst into tears right after high school regionals for mock trial and hearing that this professional lawyer did something similar made my day.

Mary James why they make you do because it makes good money.
Briauna Blunt trust me money was always the last factor to talk about. It was just my dad’s reputation since all of my siblings are doctors as well
Mary James o wow but everyone likes differed things
Whoa...I have no idea what I want to do in life. I think I'll do great in business, but everyone in my family thinks I'll fail and everyone at school thinks that I'm a business person.

How was the result when you didn't pull all nighters?
Much much better and more relaxed,I am an attorney/advocate now and progressing swiftly,I just completed my Masters in International Commercial Law...it's just about consistency and knowing your limitations.
Amy Victoria and so is ur grammar
Xhu Ziyang nothing wrong with her grammar though?
Amy Victoria congratulations!
So lesson learned:
Never go to law school.
Agreed. Many people wash out of the profession within 10-15 years, based on what I've seen.
“People don’t miss class in law school” LOOOOOOOOL WATCH ME 😂
so here i am leaving a criminal procedure textbook to watch videos about law school struggles
Same, but I closed a property law textbook😅
I left my EU Law book, chosing to ignore it
Mayara Miquidade “left” your EU text book, I would just burn mine

You just explained to us how you lost your soul and now are unable to cry as you are numb to the trauma you faced in Law school. I'm SO EXCITED FOR LAW SCHOOL!!!!
it's meant to break you, lol. But when you screw up in school, you don't ruin someone's life, in real you could, and the judge may not be as forgetful as a professor, they can make life very difficult. So try your best in school, but know it's not the end all. In spite of that, I would never want to go back to school lol.
Pharmacy students where ya at?!

I promise not everyone in Texas is like that :( People in Texas are much more open-minded than most people might think, but there are still some people out there in tx that like to be stubborn and rude. Maybe it's just less common in North Texas, but idk man :/

Ms Brownie I didn't realise

Nadine The Peen ha that's true
Funny how similar this is the med school! We too huddle in groups and hate our lives but instead of cold calling, we call it pimping hahaha
Cold calling was the absolute WORST
Make an architecture and medicine school horror story as well! I am an architecture student, and let me tell you, we don't know what sleep is anymore with all the plates 😭😢
Some of my friends graduated Architecture and they either had to take up therapy later on for low self-esteem or anger management later in life.
I am studying architecture to and it breaks your soul. I am no longer a human being.
What goes on there?
r ** we have this thing called plates, it is like how a building will look like, the concept of it, and the layout. And one building has like 5+ layouts we need to do, each to be done with 15×20 paper (some have more and bigger, mine is already considered as the smallest). Also, we should make a model about how it looks like. All due within a month or less. So yeah, wtf is sleep
Sounds like my friend.
“Half of my brow was undone, i don’t even know how that happened” *MOOOOOOD*
School is terrifying in every way

Myrica l yeah
There are levels. It's like Dante's Inferno. ;)

the girl with glasses is super funny
Right?? She’s hilarious
NarvalSwegger super relatable, reminds me of me in class with my anxiety lmfao
If a dude said that to me I would have been like "I didn't know they let old dudes into court either"
Ah, the good old socratic method...
I'm in law school in Paris (I'm French) and thankfully the system is quite different :) I'm planning to do my LLM in London though so I'll get to know this traumatising socratic method soon enough haha.
How's law school different in France?
Lizy KIM law school in London isn’t that bad lol
Wow you TOTALLY look French 😒
Yeah we did that in this Co-Op I went to. Just 3 hour lectures with socratic method every lecture.
Lizy KIM holy moly in Australia the Socratic method is out of control
Can this be a legitimate/official series??
Before watching video: Law school seems quite interesting.
After: I'll just go to med school.
Lol that’s worse
These are two hot lawyers.
argell they aren't lawyers.
hj hfj actually they are
Can I just call this scarefeed
They are so smart and gorgeous!!
I'm in lawschool in Europe and I can confirm this isn't the CASE here.
Hehe get it.
Seriously though
Faruk G dude, i saw so many people cry at the exam times and when the grades come in...it is as they say (just without case law and getting picked out depends on the prof)
Faruk G Germany. Do you guys also have 9 semesters law or is it ground study’s and then choosing a specialty?
how does law school work there 🤨
in germany you can't go to court if you don't study law in the way that leads to the state examination. we also have law bachlors but they aren't "full lawers" as they can't work in court etc. for example american lawyers also aren't allowed to work here without having to do the full law study. in reverse german lawyers have to do a 2 year thing on top in the usa and can work there fully. it's a bit crazy.
here it goes:
1. basic law study - 12 exams + 3 term papers (3 weeks each) -->you have to do it in max. 5 semesters (with also counts in requests for extension) or you are out (and can never study law again (it's forbidden)
2. main law study - 6 exams and 3 term papers (5 weeks each) -->no time limit anymore yay
ah, i nearly forgot. you also need a 3 month internship + 1 law in foreign language exam + 1 key qualification exam.
3. speciality - 1 big exam + 1 spoken exam + term paper (5 weeks) -->counts 30% of the state examination (2 tries or you are out forever)
4. state examination --> 3 zivil law exam + 2 public law exams + 1 criminal law exam + 1 spoken exam (2 tries or you are out forever)
BUT you still aren't finished. well the study kinda. but you still aren't a full lawyer.
5. two year legal clerkship - with diffrent stations etc.
6. the 2. state examination (2 tries or you are out forever)
Then you are finished.
Capuletta wow that’s a lot. thank you for the information!
the girl with the glasses looks like Bethany mota
kinda sounds like her too
She looks like Anitta
And the other looks like mylifeaseva
lol I think How To Get Away With Murder takes the trophy for horrifying experiences in law like damn xD
Can't wait to cry in 2 years
Brian. Bloop are you going to law school
Lizzie Evans yep..now I'm scared though
Brian. Bloop It’s not scary, it’s tough, not scary though. Just make sure you read over topics prior to your class just in case you get picked on
I would be more worried you’re about to go into debt for a job that’s completely saturated...unless you’re top tier don’t bother
I wonder if law school in Britain is this traumatic.
law school is always traumatic, it doesn't matter the country. Here in Chile we don't learn that many cases because we're more theory based but the amount of stress and anxiety you go through everyday is huge
Yes. It doesn't matter where or which, ANY law school is a horror. Make sure you HAVE to go to law school before applying.
Lotsoflovefromchloe as a British law student studying in London I can safely say... it’s worse
British Law Student here, in my university we don’t get called out, we do get called out in workshops, which is like a 2 hour study group, but we don’t have to worry about lectures. Also, it’s still tough, but it depends on the university you go to, I know Cambridge and Oxford give you an evil amount of work to do.
Also you don’t have to worry about obtaining a degree prior to entering law school... which is nice?
I just finished my first semester of law school. I'm anxiously waiting for my grades rn. you girls help me feel less alone!
Literally don't remember commenting this but I made the dean's list :)

Do the same with architecture students!
I'm in law school and missing classes for us it totally okay like nobody honestly cares if you bail
Same. But my roommate's section is all uppity about it. I'm glad I'm in the non-ego section.
I’m from Texas and that discrimination is everywhere here it’s worse in school

Dude you're supposed to cheer me on, so much that I already got in and I'm still alive today. Though the crying part is brutally accurate
A lot of my family are actually either restaurant workers or lawyers, so I’ve heard hundreds of horror stories about terrible clients, customers from hell, it’s crazy. Hence why I wanna be a librarian, one of the safer jobs.
