I remember i was getting my makeup done for home coming and my home coming date canceled on me out of no where. so, i am on the verge to having a panic attack cause i told my friend i am going with him and they already had plans so i couldn’t just jump into it. SO! the makeup girl was super cool and understanding and she gave me the best advice ever. she told me to let my tears out and i did. and so, she re did my makeup. when it was over, she says “how about you go to home coming with my son? he is the same age as you, just goes to a different school.” and i said “you know what, screw it.” and i ended up meeting him and going to hoco with him. we were literally so close in just the spam of like an hour. we were so comfortable around each other and became very close. anddd, now he is my boyfriend . we have been together for almost a year. ❤️
edit: i refuse to believe this is at 2.5k likes that’s crazy! me and my boyfriend are both shocked right now haha!

This was my first ever client and I wasn’t really sure what I was doing
The girl was going to prom, and before I started she kept on saying that she wanted everything to be perfect. I did the makeup, and I was VERY proud of myself. It was probably the best look that I had ever done, and all the shades matched her dress perfectly. But then the girl said to me no no this isn’t right so I redid it. We went through this cycle around 4 times when I said that I was gonna stop and whatever she got, she would have to take. I decided to do the EXACT same thing that I did the first time, and she loved it.

Maybe do one side of her face with one look and then the other side of her face another. May even use a computer to show her several looks. Then let her pick 2 of those, that you will do on her face and let her pick the side she likes.

My aunt is a makeup artist and she told m about this client named Snané (Shay: nay) about 19-21 asking for a glam makeup do for a date she has in 3 hours. So my aunt told her to wait a minute while she gets out her more high quality stuff/ more glamorous and that she’d be back in 10 minutes. As she is leaving the room she hears her client say “maybe when I call for the oppointment you should have had it out already.” But my aunt proceeded to get this makeup. When she got back she tapped the client on the shoulder and said ok I’m ready just sit in that chair right over there and we’ll get started ASAP. Shané said ok then sat in the chair. This girl took a full on makeup bag from the dollar store and poured it out on the desk in front of my aunt then says “ I think you should put your crappy makeup up and use mine.” So my aunt checked through this bag (with permission) and said “ um not to be rude but this is like dollar store brand and it is also all matte or gray and covered in makeup chunks so let’s stick with what I have.” This gurl shives all the makeup in her bag and when aunt isn’t looking took a really expensive lipstick of my aunts and shoved it in there too. Then she searches through the bag and pulls it out then says “ Looks like you can recognize good makeup when you see it because this was right in front of your face and you called it dollar store brand.”. My aunt could tell she stole it because it wasn’t covered in makeup like her other stuff but she let it go. By th8s time it had been an hour of this gurls bickering so she only had two hours and only had her cakey chunky too dark for her skin foundation on. Then my aunt started the makeup and when she finished Shané left. My aunt saw her take some makeup remover out of her purse and wipe it all off on her way out.
Thanks for reading if you did- that was my aunts worst client

So this girl hired me and it was an hour drive to her, which is not big deal. I’m driving to her house and it took me to these back roads and these houses are like torn apart, not looking the best. I start to get anxious and I’m driving down this gravel road for like 20 miles and her house is literally in the middle of no where the outside didn’t look that good. I pull into the drive way and get this weird vibe. I called the girl 3 times and texted her saying “I’m here” and no response. I get back in my car and sit there. No cars are at her house, but she told me she needed me to be there at this specific time no earlier no later. She finally comes out side and she’s wearing this long sleeve all white dress and she’s looking down and talking to me, like she wouldn’t look at me and so I introduce my self and asked her where she wanted me to go and she just pointed. I go into the house (I know some clients can be super nervous) no big deal and her house is just pitch dark and I didn’t bring my ring light as most times I don’t need it. And I asked if we could go in front of a window or where the best lighting in her house was and she just tells me we need to do it in the dining room. So I find the light switch and turn it on. I’m doing her makeup and she’s coming to life and I’m loving what I’m doing. (This was for her prom) and I asked her if she loved it and she got really happy and excited and finally started to talk to me. So then I leave and I hear her call her mom and she’s like “I don’t like my makeup it’s not for me” and I’m like really, really girl. So I text her and say thank you for asking me and letting me do her makeup and she blocked me on everything. Definitely the weirdest situation.

I'm currently 16 but I'm planning on going to cosmetology school for hair design and esthetics, (esthetics includes makeup application at the school I plan on going to) and I have no idea how I'd get started doing makeup professionally tbh. I had no idea about any of it besides the fact that I loved hair and makeup and I have a special touch and special place in my heart for it! I started college at 16 for fashion and makeup artistry and yes I am still in high school, I will be graduating this December from high school and going to cosmetology school to get my license in hair and all that other fun stuff! I absolutely loved my makeup artist’s work for my wedding day. He asked me to rate his work on his Facebook page and like the page and do all that stuff. So I was like okay, you did amazing work so I’ll let folks know about his craft. Come to find out months later, he was posting memes that were shaming women who didn’t wear makeup, and doxxing “problem” clients on his PROFESSIONAL page. Called him out for it and his brainwashed fan horde attacked. Couldn’t believe how unprofessional this guy was towards people and how he used his own business’s page to shame women for not wearing makeup. It’s sad when a truly talented person gets so petty and arrogant that they think they are untouchable by “peasant “ hands

I had one costumer wouldn’t shut up about how she was going out for her birthday and wanted to switch it up from her daily look. Now 45 minutes went by about vivid detail on her daily makeup routine and i haven’t touched her face yet. At this point i was just studying her mediocre makeup (that she wore to the appointment(?)) so i can add my finishing touch. Here’s how the beat down went:
    1) Loaded a pencil brush with pearly white eye shadow that had pink glitter in it
    2) sprayed the brush with setting spray
    3) applied it to her inner corner
Then she looked in the mirror so see what I did and I swear I saw her pupils dilate. She RAVED about it, paid for the service ($60 + $20 tip), and left.

Not really a horror story, but definitely cringeworthy! 😬 It was prom and I was doing my next-door neighbor’s makeup, then my friend’s right after. I go next door, where she gives me a picture she tore from a magazine (before camera phones) - a smoky eye with gold glitter and a nude lip. I glam her up, pack up my train case and go home to meet my friend. Opened up my case and the picture was in there - she sees it and loves it. 😍 Told her I just did it on my neighbor, but she wanted it anyway, so she got it. She brought her dress and gets ready at my house. It’s time to leave so I walk her out and my neighbor is outside taking pictures... wearing the EXACT same dress! Everyone’s jaw drops. 😱 Not just any old dress either...this gold glittery Cinderella ball gown thing! And these girls already favor each other...tall, slender, long blonde hair, blue eyes, etc. 👯‍♀️ Both wore updos too! The only difference was the shoes. To make matters worse, my neighbor’s mom (all happy and totally clueless) yells over, “How cute! Did y’all plan this?” 🤦🏻‍♀️ Then makes them take a picture together! 😳 Definitely one of the most awkward moments ever!

Dog walker here: I was doing some door to door advertising and a lady happened to be heading out so she paused to talk to me about walking her greyhound. She started telling me how much she'd pay me and told me that she could drive us to the park. I was like 'your dog sounds great! However, I do have a website with my rates and my own car.'. Lady thought I was maybe 14 (I was 24 at the time), and she was planning on paying less than half my rate. Cheap people like that who would put their pets in the hands of inexperienced handlers probs shouldn't have pets, just sayin'. It's just asking for trouble.

His NINE year old collie had never been groomed in her life so was scared shitless the whole time the poor thing, she had no clue what was happening and bit me several times. The man was half an hour late getting his dog and when he picked her up he kept making up weird excuses about why he didn’t have enough money for the groom but finally he paid and left lol

Natalie Topolski I get my long-haired groomed at the vet and then maintained as it gets longer. Groomers for the most part deserve what they get paid. Only had a couple that didn't deserve it, they did a terrible job. I paid them but also didn't go back. Finding a great groomer that you and your pet likes is hard. Like hairdressers you should "stalk" them so you never need to change.

I've been doing makeup for years and until recently I finally felt confident in my work to charge. All my friends think that I love doing makeup and I would love doing it for free. I've done more free gigs than paid, this is obviously my fault for not having a back bone. Over the years I've felt my work was not good enough because people didn't want to pay me and I felt that was a reflection on me. Wrong. People don't want to pay for makeup. I've given friends discounts and then they didn't even tip. Needless to say, I wrote this in hopes new makeup artists will see that it's best to charge all friends and family and everyone else. If they don't want to pay it's not a reflection on you. I hope this helps someone! The people who want your work will pay.

It was for her freshman year homecoming and she said that she wanted drama and glitter, then gave me reference photos and I was like okay. So I do her makeup and when I am done she is saying it looks great and her parents pay me (it is like $15-$20) and I leave to get ready myself. When I get to homecoming that night she is there with her friends and she is talking and giving me dirty looks I then find out she was talking crap about me and what I did. She also said that she paid $200 for me to do her makeup. She then got yelled at by her brother for lying about it.

I feel you girl. It’s very annoying . That’s why when a client asks me for a smokey eye I’m like ok what do you really want tho??? because you most certainly don’t want a smokey eye if you’re complaining how dark a shadow is. I get it some people don’t know but when you hear “smokey” it’s kind of common sense that it’s some type of intense dark look.

i’m an aspiring makeup artist and currently going to school to get my license. these two girls in high school asked me to do their makeup. i said of course and was super excited!! i wasn’t going to prom so it was fun to have something to do that morning. all i asked was that they bring their own foundation + tip. tell me why neither of them had foundation and proceeded to get mad that i didn’t have foundation that matched their skin tone. (i’m fair skinned and NEVER wear foundation, they were both deeper skin tones) as an amateur makeup artist, how am i supposed to have everything fOR EVERY SKIN COLOR??? i did their makeup, they both LOVED it yet didn’t tip me. one of the girls even asked me to do her cousins makeup. i spent 4 hours doing their makeup....for free. never again. i’m so sketchy about doing makeup for friends now. either pay me for my skills or do your own makeuo

I have been a pro makeup artist for 7 years . The best thing to do is telling friends and family that you can do their makeup but need a small deposit to cover equipment cost . And make sure you get it before you do the makeup. Also the foundation thing I would say try and at least get one darker skin one and if its too dark for the person mix it with a lighter skin one. Hope this helps I realize you weren't asking for advice

I have a story, but it's the other way around. I was "the client". For my sister's wedding she hired someone to do makeup professionally because she, and a few people in her bridal party were not inclined in the makeup department. The woman's regular prices were about 115 for a full face and an extra 10 for lashes. It is actually on the higher end, in my area, but my family has always subscribed to the idea that you get what you pay for, so she was willing to pay the prices to make sure everything went smoothly.
This woman couldn't have been worse. She was so arrogant and rude and the makeup she did was not suited for bridal makeup, my sister's best friend went first and she looked less like a maid of honor and more like she was about to hit the club. My sister asked if she could maybe go a bit lighter and she got really cocky with my sister, saying, "Do people tell you how to do your job?". So my sister told her to leave and keep the deposit, but she wouldn't be getting paid.
Thankfully, a friend of the family, who was a friggin' mary Kay presenter, stepped up and did a much better job than the "professional makeup artist" did. A mary freaky kay presenter. I was astonished. (Btw, I hate MLMs and do not endorse them)
I just really hope that MUA took a few more classes on bridal makeup and straightened out her attitude. Otherwise I think her career may have been shortlived.

I'm not an official makeup artist, but I've been asked more than once to help out with makeup. (This one's a doozy; sorry for the long post.) One of my first gigs was face-painting at my cousin's friend's festival and I'd be lying if it didn't turn me off of ever pursuing it further. Before the job, I bought a sample pack of water-activated paints (my go-to medium still) and triple checked that all the colors were hypoallergenic. (I'm super sensitive to metals and such myself, so I'm more than aware that my clients may suffer from similar issues.) I brought some fun glitter eyeshadows and mica dusts as well, just for any extra pop needed. So, I set up my booth, stool, and makeup and the large set of disposable brushes I had also bought last-minute. The first several go by fine--the typical requests from kids and adults alike. My seventh client, though, _wow._ This mom comes along and plunks this red-faced, exhausted-looking little girl on my stool; I offer her and her mom some fresh water bottles, just to keep them happy, cool, and comfortable while I work. Mom immediately nixes it, convinced I've been using these (sealed, might I add) bottles to clean my brushes. She then demands I give her daughter a fairy-princess look. What kind? Lord knows; it wasn't on my list or examples. I try to point this out, but nope. Mom is adamant. So I ask the girl her favorite colors and start working on swirly designs that incorporate them at the corner of her eyes and down her cheeks; Mom starts freaking out that I'm so close to her daughters eyes, but I explain that A) the paint is water-based so if any does drip into her eyes, it'll flush out easily and B) it's well-made, so it's unlikely to cause infection. I finally finish, adding a couple flowers at the end of a few of the swirls and hold up the mirror to the little girl. She absolutely lights up--going from exhausted to practically bouncing off the stool. She excitedly asks me if I have fairy dust to make her a real princess. I ask her mom if she's allergic to anything or has sensitive skin, which the mom says she doesn't. So, I sprinkle some mica dust and add a little glitter eyeshadow to the girl's cheeks. Mom gives me the money, and the girl goes skipping off. Ten minutes later, mom's back and screaming at me; her daughter's face is red and blotchy--she's clearly had a reaction to the mica in the shadows and powder. I try to explain to her that it was in the powders, and she basically tells me it's not my fault for telling her _that_ was what I meant. Even though I asked her about allergies/sensitivites _right after her daughter asked for glitter._ Right before I picked up glitter. It didn't take a genius to put two and two together. I gave her back half of the money, simply because I felt so guilty about the little girl and the discomfort she was in. Took me a while to accept a job after that.

The paint being water based is good, but that just means the binder (the glue that holds the paint together) can dissolve in water, not that it's safe to get in the eyes. Even if the binder is safe to get in the eyes (which is hard to imagine), the pigment in it might not be. It doesn't matter what binder you have, cobalt blue should not go in the eyes. (Not saying that's what you were using, just that there's more to the toxicity or safety of a paint than whether or not it washes off with water.)

Sonny Eli She knew. It was clear afterward that she knew her daughter had an allergy, but she didn't tell me (or thought, somehow, these powders didn't apply).
Think about it like this: If you go to a restaurant and refuse to tell the server you're allergic to shellfish and then order shrimp tempura, does the restaurant owe you a comped meal after you go into anaphylactic shock?
If you know you're diabetic, but order a regular Coke, is it the restaurant's fault when your blood sugar spikes? Is it unprofessional if the restaurant won't refund your meal?

I don't count this as my worst client, but it was the most stressful wedding I've ever done.
The poor woman had some mental health issues she was still getting under control. She was very open and told me how it was such an important event, besides just being her wedding.
The day of, one of the bridesmaids stressed her out so much she had an anxiety attack. When we finally had the bride out for me to do her makeup, she was so anxious she watched me do it in a mirror. I do on location so we physically moved a large mirror for this. She loved it and it was all good.
Definitely not the worst bride. It's the worst bridesmaid. Luckily another bridesmaid made her take a walk. I have never been so heartbroken and angry while working a wedding.

Ok so I have a story! I booked this bride, and I did her trial session, and everything was perfect. I gave her all the steps of what she needed to do the day of her wedding so that she could be ready for me to do her make-up. I get to the resort where the wedding is happening on the day of the wedding, and one of the bride's family members lets me into the wedding Suite where the bridal party is staying. I get inside and obviously everyone is way hungover, because all the girls are still wearing their clubbing outfits and passed out on the beds, on the floor, and in a chair. They are still wearing their makeup from the night before. So I decided to be extra nice to the bride, since I knew she would have a whopping headache. I used the resort coffee pot to make some coffee and I gently tapped her on the shoulder and offered her the coffee and offered her some ibuprofen. Once she had woken up, I asked her to go to the bathroom and wash her face. At that point she started to freak out, saying that we didn't have time and I would have to work with what she had. We had a good three hours before I really needed to be done with her makeup, so there was plenty of time. But she absolutely refused to go wash her face. Her bridal party was waking up by this time, and they did nothing to pacify her. I informed her that packing on new makeup on top of the old makeup would cause oxidation and make her skin look patchy and possibly Orange. She didn't believe me cuz apparently she sleeps in her makeup all the time and wears the same make up the next day. So I did what I could, and when she was done, she looked okay. Her wedding photos turned out awful, and she left a horrible review on Yelp for me, which thankfully I responded to and everyone else who has read the review now knows the whole story. She did not tip, and I had already cut her a discount.

Or the "I don't do those brands, they are cruel to animals!" Okay, it's China's problem the brands are cruel to animals, you should demonstrate instead of being a basic *****. Second, Sisley, Chanel, Givenchy, YSL, Armani, Tom Ford and Burberry are less likely for you to get what Portuguese call a "tercollo", or a pimple or a red eye or whatever. I hate it when I book a free (as a girl who has Sephora Black card) make-up session about 10 minutes long, something simple, and the girl or woman before me makes the make-up artist get really pissed off and annoyed.
I don't know why - but I have witnessed on the brow aesthetic, on Sephora, on a Department store which is like Macy's, and the client before me is so entitled. At the latter, it happens rarely because the make-up artists there have the patience of Buddhas. I swear, they radiate some kind of enlightening serenity...Anyways. But after the client annoys the living heck of the make-up artist, she - or he - will act like they have zero f's to give.
Girl, if you're paying over 100 dollars plus extras and you see her over 1K followers on instagram and she has the address, the telephone number on the profile, you know the make-up artist isn't a fraud!

When I was in school my boyfriend's sister in law was supposed to model for my exam, something came up and she couldn't make it so she sent her "friend" who i later found out was just a patient at her dentist office. The woman came with her 13 year old daughter since I was doing two looks. While I did her makeup she told me what she wanted me to do for her daughter and didn't listen to me when i told her I had to follow my exam instructions. Once I finished with them both the daughter wanted to take the makeup off and they got into a huge fight in the middle of my class because this lady wanted to go to Benihana with their makeup done. She literally chased her daughter around a professional studio trying to get the makeup wipes away from her. Then any time I saw her in public she would ask me for the pictures (which I didn't have access to). Anyway my teacher asked me never to bring them to model ever again.

I work weddings as a photographer on occasion.
I work with a male photographer, so I almost always am the one in the room with the ladies getting their makeup done. Until the ceremony, I follow the bride and catch as many memorable moments as I can. Normally the makeup artists work wonders and quickly and well, I take photos of them with each girl for progress shots, then they do the bride and obviously, the stress goes up a little but not to the point of it being an issue. Then the makeup artist leaves like they mention in this video.
One time, however, the makeup artist got to the bride (she was a professional with a portfolio, no reason to think she was going to be an issue) and the bride who was far from a bridezilla asked her to even out the wings in her eyeliner. The makeup artist screams for everyone to get out of the room so she can focus, and then starts to cry when half dressed women refuse to leave and I look to the bride and say "It's my job to stay with you, so its your call" and she says for no one to go anywhere and the makeup artist to get over it. The makeup artist hears me snapping away through the room (because people other than her and the bride still exist) and she yells at me personally to get out because "the noise of my camera shutter" was distracting her from getting the perfect wing. Mind you, if she wasn't crying, I would be taking photos of her because that's what we do. She then really freaks out and gives up on the makeup and goes outside to cry. A friend jumps in to do the brides wings properly, and I take photos of her doing it (which end up being the ones we keep) and all seemed good. Later on, its late now and I decided to make my way back to the woman's dressing room to use a bathroom away from the guests, its been hours, we did the ceremony, group shots, and some of the reception already. This makeup artist is still outside the room crying with a cigarette. I went back inside and told the main photographer about it and he said he would take care of it (we didn't want to bride to be concerned about the fact she hadn't left) and I still don't know why she stayed that long after failing at the most important part of her job. Maybe she was waiting to be paid since she missed the opportunity earlier by running out of the room and putting us on a time crunch. Since she was out of sight, she was out of mind when we started rushing the ladies to the ceremony.

I’m also a makeup artist and I had one client come in for hair and makeup and the receptionist had told her ahead of time not to wash her hair for an updo. This girl smelt and looked like she hadn’t showered for a month. I had to ask her to wash her face and the hairdresser used gloves to do her hair. We ended up double sanitizing everything once she left. Always make sure your clients understand what your saying

unicorn chic. She came in with a bridal party and they were late so there was absolutely no extra time. And for an updo to stay as long as possible it’s better if it’s two or 3 days dirty bc it adds texture. If the hair is to soft its harder to get it to do what u want.

I’ll still never get over this woman who brought her daughter in for her prom appointment, and immediately told me how awful her daughters hair was and that the stylist was awful. Okay whatever not my business, then she asks if I can do anything about it 🙄 I tell her I can loosen her bangs a little but not much else (I mean this isn’t even my job but ok). So I do the makeup and the mom is out running errands while I’m doing it. Then I’m doing my best to loosen her bangs without pulling her style apart since it was a bobby-pin vase that didn’t leave a whole lot of room. I get it as loose as possible and then the Mom shows up and COMPLAINS that her daughters hair isn’t right. Well first that’s not my job and second I work in a salon, so I brought over a hair stylist who explained exactly what I did. We cannot make her bangs any looser without redoing her hair and you paying for an updo twice. She then huffs and puffs and I haven’t seen her since that day 🤷🏼‍♀️

We were the client for our horror story. My sister hired an MUA for her wedding for herself and four other girls. The mua had great reviews and communication and whatnot but then comes her wedding day. 20 minutes after the scheduled time, we were still waiting for her to show up and then an hour passed before we realized she wasn’t gonna show and she refused to answer her phone. I ended up running to the store to get the stuff we needed and did 5 girls makeup and hair in the 2 hours we had until the wedding. Everyone left to get to the venue and I’m sitting at home, crying my eyes out from stress, trying to get myself ready in 20 minutes (I was maid of honor) and ended up making it to the wedding at the exact moment it was starting.
Everything turned out to be wonderful but man, I just about missed my sisters wedding 😂

My mom was a hairstylist and makeup artist, then got into office work. She was doing an office coworker's wedding party and they had 'hired' another woman (a bridesmaid's mom with a costume makeup pallette) so my mom had already done a consultation to make sure she knew what the bride wanted and did one bridesmaid so the other lady could see what the finished look is supposed to look like. The lady was caking on makeup and getting a cheap knockoff look. After everyone is done, the bride freaks out and has my mom redo the other lady's work. Lady proceeds to go crazy once she sees my mom isn't just 'touching up' and that I'm helping her. The lady threw her open kit at my mom; makeup gets everywhere and the lady storms off cursing saying that she's going to call people because my mom is using child labor, undermining her work, and being a know-it-all fake professional. To this day I have no clue how my mom was a letter to stay so calm and finish everyone's makeup. We went home afterwards and the bride didn't even tip. My mom has never done a wedding since (she even hired a makeup artist for my sister's wedding makeup)

I was so impressed with myself and I don't think I've done a better version of it since. She hated it. It was exactly what she described and had brought reference photos of. However, now she wanted nothing blended, stark contrasts, and warm tones. No offense to my queens, but what she wanted (and sadly ended up with) was an awful drag look on a 16 year old girl. Then neither she nor her mom tipped myself or the stylists who also worked on their beautiful hair. We blacklisted them.

She wanted to create the double wing look she had seen on Pinterest but it went soooo bad. She told me that I had to stay and help her put it on or she was gonna get my manager (it’s against my company policy for me to do someone’s makeup because I’m not a cosmetologist) but I do makeup all the time on myself so she thought I was licensed and demanded I helped her. On top of that this lady was really old. She was on her own breathing machine and in a wheelchair and she had a fire lit under her and she was NOT playing. She asked for a manager but I told her that I was the manager and she got even angrier. Told me she was gonna leave and write a horrible review about me and call customer service even though she ended up purchasing the two eyeliners anyways. She then went home and came back the *NEXT DAY* with this butchered eyeliner and then comes in the store and yells at me infront of everyone that I’m the one who taught her how to do this 😭😂😂😂😂

My worst experience with makeup was actually at a makeup place! I used to go to this place all the time to get my makeup done for events. This I asked for a red smokey eye, the makeup artist told me she didn't think I could pull it off. So she decided to keep it more natural. I noticed that there was a Stila Magnificent Metal Liquid Shadow that was being passed around and being used on other people. Then, it got to me. I was thinking: "Aren't you going to clean that before applying it to my eye directly?" She didn't, and it was on my eye. The next day, my eye was swollen. The next day, it got worse. I went to the doctor and she said it was a stye. This stye formed in the same area the Liquid shadow was applied. The next 2 days it got worse until I saw an eye doctor. The stye lasted for a month and a half. Now, my eye lid has discoloration and apparently it's going to take months to go away. My skin also didn't react well to the makeup, but it never did. I can handle a bad skin day, but I couldn't handle my eye being like that. After this, I can't go back there out of fear.

I asked her what she wanted , and she said “just do mine like you do yours “. I’m all cake face here & she only ever wears eyeliner . So I started to do her makeup & she does not stop moving . I had to tell her to stop moving the whole time . She wouldn’t stop getting out of the chair as well . I get done doing her makeup & she looks in the mirror, her mouth drops & says “oh I look dead “ . From that day on when someone says “just do my makeup like you do yours “, I never do . Especially when they dont wear any makeup. I just politely nod my head & do their makeup how I feel would suit them .

i loved this! i remember my sister got her makeup done for her wedding and her specific instructions were "light and natural" and the mua gave her a smoked out silver eye shadow look. my sister showed her a picture of what she wanted and she re did it. we only had a few minutes until the beginning of the wedding and my sister in law was teasing the makeup artist about the silver eye shadow look (while the makeup artist was doing her makeup) and you could def tell the mua wasnt having it. I took a look at my sister in law and the mua artist gave her the exact silver smokey eye! it was hilarious!!!!

A few weeks ago I was doing some young girls makeup (about 14...im 18) and she tells me she wants a natural glam look thats just using matte shadows, and soft brows, etc. But she wanted FLAWLESS skin. Take in she has plentyyy of acne and theres only so much I can do. I do her makeup, and Im halfway done. This child starts talkin bout “i want a glitter cut crease too but make it NATURAL” ................... I did exactly that. I even showed her a photo of what I can do for her. In the end, she starts getting upset that she wanted “natural” eye makeup and “I CAN STILL SEE MY PIMPLES!!” Lord... and I work from my moms salon, let me tell you when I was embarrassed.. ugh

My makeup horror story was when I promised to help a friend out for prom. She was like omg I love ur Smokey eyes do it exactly how u do it on me. She never wears makeup and the fact it was prom she said she wanted a neutral glam Smokey eye. She couldn’t keep still or stop blinking to save her life so I had to tone down her liner to make it easy. When I finally got done she looks in the mirror and literally wipes off all my smoke, highlight and blending and says it was still “too much” even though she made several changes when at first she said do exactly what u do for urself. I ended up not having much time to get myself and rushed to get ready bc of her. She also wanted me to do her eyebrows and gives me the pencil she says she uses for them... not only was it not her brow color but it had gold glitter in it -smh- she wiped off her eyebrows to that I did

Several months ago, a trainee makeup artist did my makeup. I was shy at asking what I prefer and the finishing was too dewy for my skin (I've oily skin), because I didn't want offend them. As they did my cousin makeup, secretly I straighten up my makeup. Suddenly they came before me and asked about my contour & highlight pallete. I awkwardly answered. But it seems that they genuinely wanted to improve their skill.

I did makeup for a show as a favor for a friend. It was an amateur dramatics group but they had a big box of their own makeup, which I was glad about because I wasn't getting paid so wasn't going to use my own stage makeup. Did bring my own brushes though, and I was glad I did because I was horrified when I opened this box. Everything was dirty. The brushes were a mixture of paint brushes and really nasty scratchy powder brushes, all of which were full of product. There was a box of used eyelashes, and a tube of mascara that was god knows how old and had been shared by god knows how many people. The box was just infections waiting to happen. Before the end of the week me and the other makeup girl went through it, cleaned everything, and threw away everything that couldn't be saved, or should never have been used on more than one person. Was pretty satisfying once it was done. I'm sure I'll get crazier stories in the future, but I've only been an mua for 2 years.

EilsTheDaydreamer It sounds like my theatre school. I’m not a makeup artist by any means, but I know a thing or two. I took a year in between school and gymnasium to do some acting and was pretty much the only one who knew anything about makeup, besides putting on some mascara.
The kit was so gross! Some of it was older than me. The teacher knew nothing about makeup, so usually he’d just instruct what he wanted and hope that people Got it right.
In a periode, where we had No shows I asked him if I could Try to clean it... the only issue was that I wasn’t allowed to throw anything out or buy anything new. I was Also only allowed to use a couple of hours (which was impossible, since everything was covered in foundation)
All in all, I didn’t get very far.

Mine is a LONG horrible story that I will condense but I had a mother/daughter bridal trial and the mother was a nightmare. The daughter (bride) loved her makeup and hired me with a signed contract and her mom told me I was very professional and thanked me. The mom then called me on my way home from the job saying she was firing me and not telling her daughter because she thought she was being PRANKED I did such a bad job. I asked if her daughter liked the makeup and she said yes but it isn’t all about her, referring to THE BRIDE!! She even told me that her future son-in-law said she was being selfish and that her makeup looked good. At least they signed the contract and I kept my deposit. Poor daughter though :(

I once got my makeup done by a "profesional" She was the nightmare. I was going to do a photo shoot for my sweet 16 and I was going to tell her what I want but she shushed me and told me to close my eyes. BTW I hate eyeliner it just doesn't suit me. Once I felt her putting pressure on my eyelids with a pencil I was already knew I wasn't going to like it. When I opened my eyes I had purple eye shadow (doesn't suit me. I am more of a pink/red color for my eyelids) And the eyeliner was WAYY TOO THICK! With my eyes open it looked like I was wearing black eyeshadow. I looked like a hooker. AND SHE MADE MY LIPSTICK A REALLY BRIGHT PALE PINK AND I'M TAN. IT LOOKED GROSS. I askeed her nicely if she can please remover the lipstick and let me choose the color and then I asked if she can also remove the eyeliner because I don't like it and I explained that it's too thicc and dark and I don't want to look like that in the photos. She got mad and told me no. She told me the makeup is "beautiful" and to pay her $40 I said no because I don't like the makeup and she said "fine $20" I looked at my mom and we ran out the salon. Noone chased after us. I have a feeling that salon wasn't even supposed to do makeup.

I have a question though.... if you had such specific standards for how you wanted your face to look..... why didn't you do your makeup yourself?

    • @Indiegirl007
      @Indiegirl007 5 лет назад +11

@lucy teesdale YEAH. But. This young lady had a vision for how she wanted her makeup to look like..... and judging from her post, I'm gathering that it was something that she herself might have done to her own face or was more than capable of doing. Because she had a very specific look that she wanted to stick to. Like, the eyeliner. She knew she would hate eye liner. Eye liner was an absolute no, even though there are different ways of using eye liner.

    • @inokeinari7
      @inokeinari7 5 лет назад +78

@@Indiegirl007 Just because you know that something looks good on you, doesn't mean you will know how to apply correctly. For example, I have a fairly round face, cause I'm overweight (let's not beat around the bush here). I am aware, that contouring will make my face look slimmer. That doesn't mean that I can contour. Same with the original poster - she knew what she wanted, or what looked good on her, but she didn't have to be great at putting on makeup. The MUA should have let her client speak before she started.
About the eyeliner, when you have hooded eyes, too much eyeliner can ruin the whole look, cause that's all you can see, or it will leave an imprint above your eye, under the brow. Some people just don't like how it feels in general

Fawn Rosie I’m so sorry that happened to you, especially on a day as important as a milestone birthday😢 I hate when people who specialize in making others feel beautiful don’t even take a client’s preferences into account, it’s SO inconsiderate and unprofessional. It’s like a hair salon giving you a haircut you specifically claimed not to want, they’d be sued immediately.

I’m not a makeup artist, but I have gotten my makeup done before. So I was about 9 or 10 years old and I was in my dance studios production of the nutcracker. One of the moms was a makeup artist so her and her team were doing some makeup for the show (idk why because we could all do it ourselves). It was my turn to get my makeup done and I sit in the lady’s chair. She had the lowest cut shirt on! Like if she moved too fast her nipple would pop out. Her phone was in her bra, her nipple was about to pop out, and she had a necklace with her name on it. It’s definitely not the worst story in the world, but it was the first time I ever got my makeup done by anyone, but my mom and I was like 6 inches from motor boating this lady. From a clients pov PLEASE don’t wear a low cut shirt.

As someone who does a fair bit of acting I am now completely unfazed by boobs. So many mua's (or at least in a theatre) wear low cut/loose clothes and often no bra. But, that is traumatising at 10 years old
