I had the pleasure of seeing AWB live 3 times in the 70's. I only wish I could describe the experience. Beyond words.
Person to Person and Work to Do are my favorites by them.
And also add "Nothing You Can Do" to the list.
OMG - I love this song, by both Quincy and AWB - thanks for playing it!!!
Wouldn't that be great? Getting to see a concert with both Quincy Jones and Average White Band. I would never lose that heaven.
Alan G. Blows my mind on that bass. Sick bass line, hear something every time I listen.
Stuart Hamish on lead vocal has a very distinctive voice. The Average White Band certainly performed "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" with excellence.
Hamish Stuart. They REALLY need to get him back with the group!
That jam on a vibe at the end has a clear Marvin Gaye influence. It sounds a lot like the album that has ‘what’s going on’ where the end of the songs fade into the next one with that sax and rolling crash cymbal
That bass was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!
Yup…and he was singing the low part simultaneously . I was lucky to have seen them mid 70's
AWB was one of the baddest most surprising funk bands of the 70's, because their song "Pick Up The Pieces" rocked black radio stations. We were all shocked to find out that they were White and from Scotland....Music like sports is interracial...if you could play.....you could play....the audio version of either "Pick Up The Pieces", "I'm The One", or "School Boy Crush" are definitely worth react to in that you really appreciate the quality of their funk....
These guys got some serious "SOUL" running through their veins!!!
remember these awesome band opened for Fannia Allstars at the Winterland in SF. ppl applaud them so hard. Great times!
They always sounded amazing live.
Check out “Cloudy (The Live Version)” and “Person To Person” by AWB.
AWB have a bunch of jams man. These brothers are from Scotland too!
@@linedriver1 Jam, Jute, Journalism and Joul!
Quincy did it in 73 with Minni and Leon on lp Heat with a historical song Buffalo Soldiers. Look them up and their history. Awb did a great job doing the cover
AWB members are just a very good group of musicians. That's why their live sound is so good. This particular song was played very well, especially the drum work of Steve Ferrone. Each of the accents, fills accentuate where the song is at vocally and from the bassist. I'm a drummer and bassist, so I'm a bit biased! Just for information their studio version was on the Cut the Cake album I believe 1975 or 1974. The song was composed by the late Leon Ware and Pam Sawyer, for the Quincy Jones 1975 Body Heat album. Principle singers on it were, Minnie Riperton, Al Jarreau and Leon Ware. It was the original version.
Peace to All !!!
Oh man they killed this version!!!
This just reminded me of The Rhinestone's ONE TIME LOVE.
Hey Just Jammin', Please react to "Person to Person," "Cut The Cake," "Pick Up the Pieces," "Schoolboy Crush," "Cloudy (Live Version)," "Work to Do" and "Soul Searching" by the Average White Band (AWB)...You will not be disappointed!!!
Because Soul has no color, you either have it or you don't...The Average White Band's Soul & Funk was so real & evident back in the day (as it is still today, because they're still touring) that they were the first "white" group to ever play "Live" on Soul Train!!! If you don't believe me, just look up Steve Harvey talking about The Average White Band to the audience on Family Feud, it was either before a show or during a commercial break...You could google it or look it up on RUclips...And I rest my case!!!
one of my favs from AWB - definitely check the studio version.
Really nice version. It loses a little sound quality over the studio version, but the performance and live vibe is really nice. I love the 'ad lib' jam at the end! These guys are BONE TIGHT and dripping with soul. Blue-eyed soul at it's finest for sure (and they are Scottish too).
Enjoyed your reaction JJ we hear you carrying that tune!!Another great song by AWB!!!
Mother 🍿 working the magic again!!!
I love their music. I can't believe you haven't done Cut the Cake yet. One of their best, I know you will love it.
I love that you get this band. You should check out their epidemy, "Soul Searchin". The whole album should be in the Funk Hall of Fame!! James and Aretha would agree.
One of the bands who almost sound best live.
Their hit..Person To Person is Awesome, take a Reaction😊 and Enjoy
Scotland,s Funk Soldiers...
my very first HS dance was to this song,,,, it really means a lot to me. and i cannot believe this the 1st time i'm hearing the live version. WOW. this will now be in consistent rotation 'round here!
That's why the 70's Bands are still playing casinos.
I'm a huge AWB fan but just like you, Queen of my soul is my favorite..It used to be If I ever Lose this Heaven but as I get older Queen of my soul supplants it...maybe it's the message as music is that important to us. Anyway great job, once again.
Theirs is to this day one of the best live shows you’ll see. Thank you for your reactions.
Average in name only - these brothers are most dedfinately ABOVE average in talent. One of the most soulful funkyest bands of AL TIME ! The 70s and early 80s era of music is evidently the best ! Check out Sschoolboy Crush, Person to Person, Pick up the Pieces, and Cut the Cake , for more great music from this great group
Hamish brought the soul like a mofo
My brother was the one who first told me about this great band. I've been a fan ever since.
Quincy Jones original “Body Heat” lp. Check it out.
You really need to check out the AWB massive back catalogue. Been a huge fan since I saw them live at Leeds University (Yorkshire, England) in 1976.
You need to check out School Boy Crush - now THAT’S a jam!
Now, Gorrie does an amazing job
Can't go wrong with some AWB...
Smh I missed this, the notification bell is useless
This was when being a musician meant you could play an instrument or sing. 😂😂
My dad playing sax here, if this is the montreux recording :p
You should check out their song "Cloudy"
Please do Quincy Jones version of this classic
MORE AWB ! Schoolboy Crush , Person to Person , Cut The Cake.........
Don't just take my word for it...Go to "The Old Ways of Music | Rolling With Steve Harvey" on RUclips and check out what Steve Harvey has to say about The Average White Band (AWB)...
One of my favorite AWB songs. I don't believe they ever had a studio version of this. FYI, Quincy Jones did the original and AWB did the cover. Thanks for reacting to this.
You need to listen to their white album! AWB
Hi @dead end kid, great suggestion for JJ. I think I will def listen to one of their albums or greatest hits compilation( though those can miss some songs) I will find them!🎼🎷🎸🎺🥁🎷🎸🪘
ANOTHER GREAT REACTION
Coke Escovedo - “If I Ever Lose This Heaven” Ft. Brother & Sister Vocalists Linda & Calvin Tillery is best version of this song.
Thanks for the referral of Coke Escovedo. I live in the Bay Area. I'll certainly listen Coke's cover because I know his skills and abilities are legendary.
Great
Play the whole white album straight thru.
As Conway Twitty once said "A good song don't care who sings it." I think that applies to race as well. The music don't care about things like race, good music is good music.
I love AWB
Hamish listen to a lot of Marvin Gaye songs.
Please do Cloudy (live version)
Hamish is the soul vocal you can actually understand. Not the falsetto mumble-fest that was Michael McDonald.
AWB is not the original. Quincy Jones is. But it became associated with AWB because they played it for years. That's why it's this good by the time they did a live recording.
They set out to be a funk band from the get go. They never faked the funk. Also I don.t think any of them are american born.
They covered funk Just like the Beatles and the Stones covered Black Rock and Roll.
Check out school boy crush
please do "School Boy Crush" - Average White Band ruclips.net/video/2Q6An523xyI/видео.html
An okay song from this group. Whoever requested this song should have requested Pick Up The Pieces by this group. It's a much better song.
I prefer quincy jones' version.
Not the live! Studio joint way better
