Pick up the pieces is an outstanding instrumental by this group. Very groovy and funky!!!😎
Scottish Funk 👍👍🙏🦋✌🏻😎 Love these guys 👏
Fantastic band, Scottish white soul at it's best. song has been covered numerous times, absolute class.
"Pick Up The Pieces" and "Cut The Cake" - blistering. Funk & R&B Gods. They are a bad bad band.
A love of your own, Cloudy 🥰
I love there music today ..real soul .!
AWB 🥰 from Scotland
I like this music, I grew up in the disco time and the Philadelphia sound and Motown. I still love it💕💕💕🎶🎶
Definitely must hit up ‘Pick Up the Pieces’!!! Seriously funky!🤟🏻✌🏻
AWB are fabulous!! A Love Of Your Own..Pick Up The Pieces...Cut The Cake...Just a few more gems from AWB! Incredible! ♥️🎼🎵🎶🇨🇦
When you said they should be arrested I burst out laughing lol yes!!! They are such a wonderful group , from Aberdeen Scotland , I'm so glad you enjoyed this song as many have over the years Thank you for giving it the recognition it truly deserves ❤
When a bunch of GREAT Studio Musicians get tired of being in the background...
Average White Band.
Nothing average about these boys!
They just booked dates in the UK! You won’t regret seeing them live!
Scotland's finest. I'm Old and remember it first time around. I play this a lot as I pretty much live in the past when it comes to my music. First time seeing your page and your opening statement is what I have said a million times when people ask how I can remember small details, music the food of life.
One of the best funk bands ever and from Bonnie Scotland 🏴👍🏻we are not just pretty faces up here🤣🤣
That's Alan Gorrie on that badass bass. You might want to check out the Live From Daryl's House episode that he was on! Pick Up the Pieces, Schoolboy Crush, Person to Person, Cut the Cake, Feel No Fret... they have a whole catalog of funky goodness!!
I've seen them numerous times... fantastic!
This track is what us soul boys call an "anthem choon" ...you ain't sitting when this is played at any function ..
" queen of my soul " it's a funky vibe and my favourite, Hamish Stewart is the lead singer ❤️
I still have all my AWB albums, and that’s ALL of them. I will listen to this great music until I go to the next place! I never had the opportunity to see them in person, but I’ve always revered their genius! Music royalty!
Big up scottish funk.. the main members were from scotland.
Your next songs from AWB should be "A Love of Your Own" and "Work To Do." Yes, they covered the Isley Brothers. Peace out.
Yes!! "Work to Do" by the Average White Band is my favorite by them. STUDIO VERSION off of their 1974 album "AWB", ONLY!! There's a live rendition being played by some reactors & it pales in comparison to the album version. Bests the Isley Brothers rendition by a country mile.
@@oscarwilde6649 - The Montreux live version of Work To Do is the greatest version of that song.
James Brown said of AWB the best funk band I have ever heard. This song Is pure funk but you can in my opinion hear the influence of Barry White and Love Unlimited Orchestra and MFSB with the violins in the background complimenting the pure funk line
@ John 👆👍🔥🔥💥💥❤️❤️🇬🇧
Happy Daze let's try our best to get back there.
One love
Wow this is truly a hot dancing song.👍🎸🥁🎹 im liking it harri 😘
Love your reaction harri, absolute classic, just love em😀🎹🎷🎸🎶🎵🎺🎵🎶🎷🎸🎹
Band members are Alan Gorrie guitar and bass, Hamish Stuart guitar and bass, Onnie MacIntyre guitar, Roger Ball saxophone, Malcolm ‘Molly’ Duncan saxophone, Steve Ferrone drums.
"Pick Up The Pieces" by AWB. Great instrumental!!!
Didn’t realise they where from Scotland, what a Tuunnnneee though ❤️🔥🇬🇧
AWB top notch band! Everything they played was smooth or funky or both! Never get tired of their music! Just shows you endless even hearing it today that’s awesome makes you wanna groove.
I believe the lead singer here Hamish ... does backing vocals on 'What a Fool Believes' by Aretha Franklin ... you can hear his voice come through singing 'nothing at all'. Another great song.
He went on to play with Paul McCartney for quite a l😊one time too
I have never heard this song. The chorus is great. Great reaction and analysis.
Hi Harri, I was lucky to see The Average White Band live twice, they are amazing musicians, they are a Scottish band, from Dundee in Scotland. They had a great time in America, and let me tell you, they were amazing live. So I'm glad you enjoyed their music, super reaction Harri, take care. 👍
It has taken me to get to the age of 61 to appreciate this great sound. I was into Led Zep Pink, Floyd then on to Punk and New wave so never gave this kind of Funk a chance but wow it is really amazing and from a small city in Scotland, Dundee makes this Funk sound all the more remarkable.
what a voice!!!
"According to Duncan, members of the band had played together before in Scotland, but had moved to London separately and met up by chance at a Traffic concert. They decided to jam together; a friend heard them and remarked: "This is too much for the average white man," which became adapted as the name of the band."
This song was covered by Louise Redknapp in the late 90s, and was on the radio, so perhaps you heard it then.
I was a radio disk jockey when this song was released. It received almost no airplay in the States even though I loved it. I don’t remember them having any singles after this one. Their drummer, Steve Ferrone, seen in this video, went on to fame as the drummer for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
Absolutely love it mate! Reminds me of when I was a 18 year old pissed up young lad in the Air Force dancing around a disco like a complete twat!
Best song of the eighties for me.🇬🇧
Others have mentioned Pick Up The Pieces, I'll add Cut The Cake.
Very good song to react!!!!
Harri: Are we ready to react to Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Band 1973? You will definitely be overcome by the Funk!!
It probably sounded familiar because it’s got that typical 70’s disco beat and that’s not a bad thing. So it probably has the same beat of other songs from that era, but they definitely took it to another level. Pick Up the Pieces was their breakout song. More funk than disco. Great song Harri.
Their last hit in 1980, but I don't think it sold well in the states until later. According to Hamish Stuart it's one of their biggest hits. They were headed towards more mainstream, but Hamish wasn't down so he went his own way to work for Paul Macarthy. Alan wrote this song, it was brilliant.
I had this album back in the day. One of the other tracks on that album was "Whatcha Gonna Do For Me", which Chaka Khan covered a couple of years later and had a big hit with it.
Start from the beginning with “Show Your Hand”, then “You Got It”, “Cloudy”, “Why”, and “Nothing You Can Do.”
The rest of that album is badass, but then they top it with the “Cut The Cake” Album. Then they get ridiculous with their live album followed by the “Soul Searching” album! Just incredible run of music by this fantastic group!
Favorite Song of All Time has to be “If I Ever Lose This Heaven.”
Real music. Weve lost this ever happening again, its so sad
Have a go at "Cut the Cake" or "Cloudy" - AWB have done some superb stuff. "Pick up the Pieces" and this one were perhaps their biggest hits though.
The sound on thsi video is the orginal record (though it fades out early) dubbed onto a live performance, you will have noticed that there are strings playing but no orchestra - not something that happened in 1980. That's also the reason for the shakey synch - especially in the hand clap bits! But this is the original hit - in all it's magnificence!
You've got to hear "Cloudy" by the AWB. Kick back and get Mellow, you dig?
You should check out their earlier work which is so funky,it should be illegal.
For instance,Schoolboy Crush, funky as it gets.
Find Cloudy, by them live
Haven't heard this song in yearssss. I loved this song. I probably heard this on the "soul radio shows" . Not sure of the origins of their name, but it should be (Not Your) Average White Band. Don't know what label they were on, but this is on par with any Sound of Philadelphia / Gamble and Huff/ McFadden and Whitehead record. This is my favorite AWB song, but Pick Up the Pieces is their most known. But I love A Love of Your Own too..
The orchestral arrangements blows your mind, please react to ‘Street Player’ by Chicago, Wow!! Covered by Leonid & friends, enjoy 😀
Brilliant song the so called groups of today couldn't come close to this if they tried. who would believe it was from 1980....
Every disco in America
Please listen to them do "School Boy Crush"
Schoolboy Crush is excellent.
Scotland's version of earth wind and fire.
The original AWB had 2 black guys in the band, hence the name.
scottish soul
Work to do, cut the cake, school not crush all great from AWB.
Harry I was taught some dance moves by a west Indian woman in the works canteen to this exact song in Park Royal London in the seventies, I was a sixteen year old boy alone in London and I found family in the West Indian community more than I did with ethnic white people and music was the key 🔐
Do yourself a favor Harri and listen to Cut The Cake by AWB you'll love it proof positive.
The lead singer, I think died of an overdose. Bass player Gorrie, sins lead now.
Not true, their drummer died of an overdose.
Please try something "ELSE" anything else by this band they are "MUCH" better than this !!!!!!
I am sorry for all white folk here ,
This is baaaaaaaaaad
I am white and I do not support this😭
Pure class .
White Soul band….Scottish.. Hay white men can sing soul!!!!
