The Mighty Hamish James Stuart! One and Only Voice!
I played this song all the time! I had the Album "Soul Searching" and it's just GREAT!
It's a Samba. A lot of AWB tunes are inspired by Brazilian sambas and Bossa Nova. The percussionist is the great Nuyorican bandleader Ray Barretto, so it had Afro-Cuban instruments superimposed on the Brazilian and the funk vibe...and jazz harmonies. This is truly an eclectic fusion of styles.
AWB's Hamish Stuart's voice singing the lead on "Queen Of My Soul" gave me some Marvin Gaye vibes!!!
Marvin Gaye was one of his big influencers. Good ear doc. 👍
Absolute FACTS!!! Thanks for the compliment Vaughn, much appreciated!!!@@vaughnmiller4371
Always nice hearing real musicians play, it adds to a song.
I first heard this song around 1976 , but it was only played on the radio for a few months, then faded away. As the decades passed I'd from time to time ,remember the chorus and hope that one day I'd hear that song again. At times I'd question why it bothered me so, but in my heart i just had to hear it again, you see it is a great song and like a long lost love you just have to see them! Thank God for RUclips, just a few words from the chorus, music sweet music, your the queen of my soul, and after 45 years i was home, the song was right before my eyes, a mini miracle! Life is pretty ok !!
Wikipedia says that they are the 15th most sampled band in history.
Average White Band; School Boy Crush, Cut the Cake, Groovin' the Night Away.........
“Nothing You Can Do”.
Your right my man. It was a samba rhythm and tempo. Brazil. From the mid-1970's and has passed the test of time.
Keep up your exploration of this golden musical era. It makes old heads like me very happy to see the younger generations enjoying these treasures.
The Funk and Soul of Scotland... Celtic Soul young bro...
A love song dedicated too music... How can you not love that
When my friend played this song for me, I went nuts!. I shot out to the record store and bought the album, Wow!, I think this is AWB's best album!, since then, I use this very song ( Queen of my soul ) to grade new stereos and speakers
The Kings of Blue Eyed Soul. Great concerts!
I love this song, it really speaks to my heart and Soul!
My Favorite song from them til this day!!!
Lost count the amount of times I have seen them live. Not the original line up but still amazing.
Congas in the background on “Queen of my Soul”. On that album listen to “Soul Searching” “Sunny Days”, & Overture just to name a few.
Man I can’t believe the great music you review here. Love this channel.
Their music speaks for itself, but their legacy stands out even more because they are Scottish. I heard in an interview that their name came from the way they used to talk to each other, example - Q: How you doing? A: Pretty good for the average white man.
White guys from Glasgow listening to James Brown and other R&B artists from America, they were absolutely not an average white band. The name was seriously tongue-in-cheek! There were critics that thought they were ripping off black music. They persevered through it all and now find irony that rappers are sampling their tunes. Thankfully they didn't come along today as the woke folks would try to cancel them...
One of my favorite songs ever! Very creative channel concept. New subbie. 🥰🥰🥰
People are saying Marvin Gaye well of course Marvin's sound was supreme in 1976 The "I Want You" album was riding high in 76
AWBs music brings tears to my heart!
one of my top roadtrip songs!...And yes, it has a bossa nova/ samba Brazilian style reminiscent of Sergio Mendes
Good to know that people like you and vice versa, appreciate other cultures music into your life. Putting away all negative feeling toward other races and way of life is truly beautiful amazing recognition, thank you for your reactions.
The audio version of "Pick Up The Pieces" by AWB or "I'm The One" is classic reactionary funk....
You have to listen to the Soul Searching album as a whole, there is a thread, a musical note, that runs through the whole album from beginning to end - great music but it's actually much deeper than that. Happy listening!!!😁
Check out: Marvin Gaye - After The Dance ... Johnnie Taylor - Disco Lady ... Issac Haynes - Walk on By {from the Dead President Soundtrack} .. Donald Byrd - Places & Spaces ... Smokey Robinson - Quiet Storm ( Love To Be in the Studio When This was Recorded in 1975)
Great musicians playing great music.
Followed them from the beginning.... Put It Where You Want It,a real dancer, then have a funk to Schoolboy Crush.
Intro just makes my jump up and dance ❤️
My fave track of theirs ❤️
A great song is immortal.
Sound So Marvin Gaye ... Real Nice
Came across you by accident.Your so laid back and cool.Great old school funk. Not bad from white guys from scotland wow.Take care my friend.
Big Marvin influence on this one
AWB the best that came out of Scotland.
This is my favourite song of theirs.
To me this song never got the recognition it should have.
Finally!!!! My favorite song by them!!! Yesss!!
From the same album, listen to "Would You Stay?"
Doobie Brothers Michael McDonald; You Belong to Me, Real Love...... Beautiful .....!!
I.have not heard this song in a long time! I enjoyed your reaction to it. Thanx!
Glad you enjoyed it!
They were lots of funky and far from average. They came from Scotland

Young fella you got to check the Isley Brothers.
Lovers eve
JUST WANNA LOVE YOU TONIGHT, I JUST CAN'T GIVE YOU UP.
Hi....how about Earth Wind & Fire " I'll write a song for you " !!!! 💖
Young man you have to react to Mandrill!!
Fencewalk was just COLD!
Now do "When Will You Be Mine", by AWB, from "Feel No Fret".
Not bad for a group of white boys from Ireland who listen to James Brown. A group of musicians who fuse their solos into one song you just don't find it anymore. Bands back then didn't sample anybody else's work they created their own.
Straight outta Scotland
I love them. ;0 great song, but they have some good ones
Drums conga drums
Just a bunch of (mostly) Scottish guys....=-)
💖💜💖💜
Have to do school boy crush by AWB
