Getting Amber on board and on this channel was the smartest decision you made since proposing to her!!
I agree. She’s the only reason I watch.
@@aceblades8679 yes, I think she a very hot mom!
Not that Jay wasn't good on his own, Amber just adds so much. I love it when her eyes are closed and she's swaying and lost in the music (which is about the time Jay pauses it 😁)
She hasn't met me yet but when she does ... goodbye Jay.
@@bombasticbushkin1124 You wish!
I think he was thinking of wild cherry, not average white band
Speaking of Wild cherry they should do Hot To trot and Hold On.
Don't expect so much. He thought he was hearing a trombone. 😄

The Average White Band did not do Play that Funky Music,it was Wild Cherry.
Wild Cherry. Another Above Average White Band.
You are correct
They mixed up Wild Cherry with AWB
Amazing Band live. Many people think they are a US band because of their music, but they are from Scotland. Europeans can be funky too😎. Greetings to you fine people from Germany🇩🇪❤
Hi Jay and Amber! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. I saw Average White Band in concert in Glasgow just last month on their farewell tour and they were absolutely awesome. The Royal Concert Hall was full and rocking. There's another instrumental track of theirs you should check out called 'McEwans Export', which is also a Scottish Ale. They didn't have a name for the tune while they were recording it in America and they often had a lot of McEwan's Export around the studio. So, they called it that. A great story, amongst others told by bass player Alan Gorrie during the live show. Another was when they were set to record for their Atlantic Records label after the legendary Aretha Franklin as they watched her record her tracks in awe of her. Æx 🙏
Can you believe a Scottish Band could have so much soul, and funk.
Yes because there have been loads of them all over the UK, so why would Scoto land be different ?
It's the Sound of Funky Dundee 👍

Yeah, sister, you right he ain't talking bout no cake!
Amber has such a beautiful, genuine smile, there is no doubt she truly enjoys all GOOD music.
They are an amazing group, for soooo many reasons..... Tight beyond belief ! Every note from every instrument (or voice) is pitch perfect and right on beat. So ridiculously clean
(Wild Cherry does "Play That Funky Music)
1976 Iwas there,,
Easy error to make.
@@hughdalton7622 Sure, Wild Cherry is made up average white guys after all right? Haha!
You have to admit for an Average White Band they are extremely funky. 😂
The Average White Band and Cut The Cake peaked at #10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 the week of June 21, 1975. The rest of the top 10 at the time:
1) Love Will Keep Us Together - The Captain & Tenille
2) When Will I Be Loved - Linda Ronstadt
3) Wildfire - Michael Murphey
4) I'm Not Lisa - Jessi Colter
5) Love Won't Let Me Wait - Major Harris
6) Sister Golden Hair - America
7) Do The Hustle - Van McCoy & The Soul City Symphony
8) Get Down, Get Down (Get On The Floor) - Joe Simon
9) Listen To What The Man Says - Wings
10) Cut The Cake - The Average White Band
Schoolboy Crush, Person to Person, A Love of Your Own, and Work to Do are all righteous AWB classics! ❤
Yeah, I'm at school Bay I VAR.IGA average my word.How bout a super doper or a just a sober by a debt?What band w h I t a water flavors the super dopers😊😊😊😊😅
Other Average White Band gems include "School Boy Crush", "I Got Work To Do", "Person to Person", "Keepin' It to Myself", "Queen Of My Soul", "Let's Go Round Again", & "If I Ever Lose This Heaven". Their 1977 Live (Person to Person) album is awesome.
The drumming on this is phenomenal, the brilliant Robbie McIntosh...
Sadly Robbie had passed at this point and it was Steve Ferrone on drums.
Scotland's finest export since whisky. Funkin' brilliant!
C'mon son! We know what kind of cake he means when he says "Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme that cake". My sister played this song on my suggestion at her wedding when they cut the first slice of cake for the bride and the groom. This song has got funk for days!
The Average White Band "Cut The Cake" Live On Soul Train Video is an ABSOLUTE MUST SEE Performance!!..You both will love seeing the people dancing to it. 🔥❤️🔥
When they were on Soul Train they wasn't lip singing it was live .
Sly & The Family Stone "If You Want Me To Stay"..A MUST HEAR Classic. ❤
Straight up classic
SatFS’s entire Stand album is a gem, including the songs that are too non-PC to play these days.
We literally had this playing at our wedding when we cut the cake! 29 yrs ago last Monday!
The drummer here is Steve Ferrone, who joined AWB in '74 after Robbie McIntosh died at an LA party - the same Steve Ferrone who became Tom Petty's drummer (and played with many greats from Aerosmith and Michael Jackson to Chaka Khan and Pat Metheny). PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC was Wild Cherry. I'll suggest SCHOOL BOY CRUSH (off the Cut The Cake album) for your next AWB excursion. For some good official music videos with Steve Ferrone with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, check out their YOU WRECK ME and SWINGIN'.
Gotta love that 70's "whole band in a small room" sound. So funky.
Speaking of Cake, Jay and Amber would Love the band CAKE. Probably the most fun band of the 90's.
Jay would specially like "The Distance", for his road trip playlist.
yes!
Speaking of Amber, I'm always amazed at how she gets the cultural and artistic subtleties in music that is completely other to her direct experience. Class act.
THE HORNS!!! They were AMAZING in concert~ not a butt left in the seats!!! ❤❤❤ They got SWAG!!!🎷🍰
Gotta, just gotta, check out Average White Band's - A Love of Your Own and Work To Do, both from the Live concert at Montreux 1977!
Yes, Amber is the star. ;-) Super cute hair again today, Amber. Nice song choice!
Just your average White Boys from Scotland. Over the years a few members were replaced after deaths or retirements. But they were still true to the Funk. I saw them twice back in this era and they were so tight and funky that they tore the place up. Their First Album "AWB" was such a wonderful work. I still have the CD in my truck and can play it from start to finish. Put it on, and just leave it and let it play. You won't be sorry.
Now try Parliament "Give Up The Funk". George Clinton, known as the Funkiest Man alive. It was where Bootsy Collins started.
Awesome SONG!!!! 🎶 AWB is a great band! 😊
Back in the day,, An Average White Band song would play & IMMEDIATELY the dance floor,, The isles,, At their tables was flooded with people dancing, Wherever there was room.
This was one of our go to dance songs!! I love the Average White Band!!!
Big wedding song for obvious reasons. Have fun.
WHY ? OBVIOS?
Theo....really? 😂
As a wedding DJ in the 80s ... FACTS
@@theodoreritola7641yeah, but he doesn’t mean during the wedding ceremony. He means by the DJ at the reception. Obvious, because it got lots of people to get up off of their thang and get up and dance.
lol O OK TAKE CARE God bless you
I'm chair dancing and loving it. I love AWB. You should play "A love of your own".
And hearing the wonderful horns in this track reminds me that it has been a day since the two of you have reacted to the amazing Blood Sweat and Tears!! What about putting "Hi-De-Ho", "Spinning Wheel" or "Lucretia McEvil" on your list to react to one fine day??
Not bad for a bunch of white boys (and one black dude) from Scotland, eh? I used to play guitar in a big Funk band and this was always my favorite tune to play. Gotta do “School Boy Crush” next with the live video!
Funk was hot in the 70's. I worked in a music store in Canada when AWB came out. Great memory ....thanks. PS: this drummer in AWB is top shelf.
Jordan imitating playing a trombone, while a saxophone is the lead instrument. 😄
This song was played a lot in our homes, and Amber is definitely the star of the channel for me. 🙂
J and Amber are equally engaging. Neither one is the star over the other.
@@SueGreene-st7qc
I've had conversations with Amber and I can relate to her more, and like I said, she's the star for _me_ .
I wasn't speaking for you or anyone else.
I do believe there were two saxophones playing together.

Amber and Jordan- Another band that you really will enjoy is Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels-They had one banger after another during the late sixties and seventies.. You will totally dig them.
They played this at my wedding in 1982!! Our guests jammed!!
Someone brought this album to a weekend rehearsal of my first band in the cafeteria of the company our bassist's dad ran, metal fabrication, newspaper boxes and the like; we'd go in for the weekend, go home late, come back in the morning, get friends to deliver pizza and beer through the windows.
Anyway, funky as hell, Great Scots!! 😊❤
Always great to hear AWB! Definitely hit School Boy Crush next. Then: Got the Love, Person to Person, Work to Do, If I Ever Lose This Heaven (fantastic ballad), Cloudy. Great great music!
They already did "School Boy Crush" about 11 months ago. Another fun "make you want to dance" song by AWB is "When Will You Be Mine."

Keep the Funk going!
Curtis Mayfield- Superfly (72)
(Don't Worry) If There's A Hell Below, We're All Gonna Go.
Loved their music! You cannot sit down when their music comes on.
🔥JAY🔥AMBER🔥YOU WASN'T TO KNOW HOW FIRE THESE BOYS FROM SCOTLAND🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Play that funky music was not average white band. This was fun. Thanks
AWB is full of the funk at the highest level. Try Person To Person, School Boy Crush, and more!
Wore this 8-track out in the 70s in my ‘69 Mustang! Martin County High School (Stuart, FL) Class of 1976. Best of times !
So glad someone reacted to this song.A great groove. Thanks!
I want some cake after that!!!! LOL
This group band should be in inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame some of their music has been used this group is considered a legendary all the albums and songs are off the chain AWB -Average White Band , and they are still on tour .
This is and has always been some funky ass funk.
Wild Cherry did “ play that funky music “ AWB is everyone’s favorite Scottish band. AWB is their second and best album imo, every song on it is special 🔥
I still listen to the WHITE ALBUM, almost 50 years later.
I love watching tis couple chair dance! 🤩😍🤩
Another dance song during my time. I sill will shake a leg at get togethers. My relatives are amazed I can still cut the rug at my age.LOL! Your faithful follower🩷🎧💯👏🫶
I was a wedding DJ for 26 years. I low key played this song for that part of the reception
You will LOVE Schoolboy Crush with the sleighbells. Love u guys and have been with you since the beginning! GET IT!!!
NEXT:: The Average White Band "Work To Do" 🔥❤️🔥
"Play That Funky Music White Boy" by Wild Cherry was the funk band and all the members were white. AWB is a
Jazz band that crossed over to the public with mostly instrumental jazz songs with funk music. They were pioneers of Acid Jazz Music which was jazz music people could dance to! This song is a summer song and usually played at Bar-B-Q's. 👍
in the same vein, Dennis Coffey and the Detroit Guitar Band's song "Scorpio"...
Jay and Amber, awesome reaction to one of the funkiest songs by one of the funkiest bands ever. Thank you. Your guys chair dancing made me smile.
Just a footnote: Wild Cherry did “Play That Funky Music”, not AWB. Both great funk bands.
Also fun fact: at least two of these guys ended up playing in Sir Paul McCartney’s band.
Yes! Absolutely love this piece. Thanks for a great start to my evening. 😃
Perfect wedding cake song
They have no bad songs.
Queen of My Soul
A great birthday song when of course serving cake🎂🥳 cheers, southside OG✌️
You guys have got to hear the band Bread they are awesome and if you haven't heard the group Boston you love will love both I know you both will really like these two bands and thank you for the blast to the Past these songs were in my erra
Pick Up The Pieces came out followed by Cut The Cake when I was in jr. high. Great funk from a great era.
We sure did dance our azzes off to this ..Big hit of the summer..Caught 'em live in '78..No one sat down all night, And so crazy how when they talked to us they sounded total thier native Scot, but sang like some soul brothers from the hood. Next funky jam from 'em, I highly recommend "Person to Person". ( Drummer Steve Ferrone went on to play on big hits by Stevie Winwood, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and Tom Petty.) Fun watching ya jam, R.S.!
I haven't heard this in decades. Thanx
Thanks for introducing yourselves, with yourselves in the middle
Excellent alternative to disco; tight and full of musicianship.
awesome song! i have this on vinyl. i enjoy your reactions to all of these songs,
❤️AWB, I got invited to private rehearsal when they were in Detroit, just me, I still don't know who called me, it was great btw❤
AWB one of the most underrated bands of the 70’s imo.
YEpperz70s style
Underrated by who? They are considered one of the top funk bands. 15th most sampled artist of all time.
Wrong! AWB were never underrated. That's just a typically lazy RUclips "underrated" comment.
@@MarcoSpeaksNadsat Exactly! These dumb "underrated" posts are becoming a real PITA.
of course they were massively underrated. Any band that collaborates with R&B god Ben E King producing a killer tune that barely makes it into the american top 40 is not only underrated but also underappreciated. A big shame for a 70’s funk juggernaut still touring.
Yes were dancing Oh Memories !
Such a great funky sound they had. Pick up the pieces was my favorite of theirsvwhen released
Brilliant band Great song. Schoolboy Crush is a must listen.
I gotta add this to my playlist!!!
Great video, guys! And speaking of cake, you should listen to the band Cake, a 90s must.
This group always made me dance too. They’re like everyone is playing their own music but when they come together they produce their own baby sweet music and you can’t help but dance
Since y'all are so into '70s funkadelic tunes, I would like to suggest the group The Undisputed Truth, especially "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," and "Ball of Confusion." Those are a couple I remember from half a century ago, but honestly anything they did was kickin'. I keep tuning in because y'all make me smile, and I can't help but pass it on.
Great to see you do the AWB , funky and soulful, great reaction by you guys. Another good one by them is 'You got it' -makes you want to dance. For something else great and funky check out 'Can you feel the force' by The Real Thing-more 70's soul-Colin Ward
Another good "makes you want to dance" song by AWB is "When Will You Be Mine."
@@lonardgetchell-bm9lc Hi there, yes that is another really good one
Nice vibe and hit! I dig it. I've heard it on the radio a few times.
These guys ROCK with their funky white soul !!!
Next up, IF I EVER LOSE THAT HEAVEN.
Keep going and enjoy
How about reacting to some more War? A few like, spill the win (with Eric Burdon), slipping into darkness, why can’t we be friends, all day music, the world is a ghetto, cisco kid, summer, good, good feeling.
Thanks for recommending War to them. If they aren’t already, they should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
Cake or pie, call it what you will.
I used to drive-dance to this back in the day. I don't know how I didn't get a ticket. 😂
Saw them live last month. They have still got it.
This band ain't no joke they still got it❤
Man oh man, this takes me back to 1976! My older brother was a huge fan of Average White Band and he used to blast this on the stereo at every backyard cookout we had! Other good songs by them you ought to listen to include "Schoolboy Crush" and "If I Ever Lose This Heaven", to name a couple...
If I ever lose this heaven. Is a great song.
I remember ‘99 (just turned 14) my mom dropped me off by myself at SDSU to watch AWB and majority of the audience were long haired hippies (so dope) 😅 and, the group next to me were passing it my way(yep I was high and jamming 😁👍🏼) the only thing was the original drummer wasn’t there (Robbie Mcyntire RIP) but English drummer Steve Ferone was 🥁🔥
The UK has imported some terrific talent, musically! These guys are an example of such!
Imported (shipped in)? How so? Unless you mean exported (shipped out).
@@leec6707 Pardon my miswording😁What I meant was the UK talent here on our shores.Unsure if they actually recorded their material here in the USA 🇺🇸
We all know what kind of "Cake" he be takin' about:) My personal favorite...homemade German Chocolate! How about some "Pound Cake":)? For the record the group Wild Cherry did "Play That Funky Music", but I see how you could confuse the two. I was a young teen in the 70's in the hard rock crowd but Everybody I knew loved this kind of funk music too! This band ,The Ohio Players, Earth Wind and Fire The Commodores were at the very top of the heap. What a time to be young and a music lover!!!!!!!
Another great Scottish band
Wow this is a classic! I thought you all had already done this!
Yep, *HOT* dance track in the spring and summer of '75. Their slow-burn tunes are excellent too; check out "Cloudy," and "A Love Of Your Own" (also recorded by co-writer Ned Doheny).
'Let's go round again' is a famous song by them
