1. Insert a new cut chip key in ignition and turn key to the ON position for 10 minutes and 30 seconds.
2. Within 45 seconds turn the key to OFF and then back to the ON position for 10 minutes and 30 seconds.
3. Within 45 seconds turn the key to OFF and then back to the ON position for 10 minutes and 30 seconds.
4. Turn key OFF then back ON. The key is now programmed. Start vehicle to test key.
This procedure will program a new transponder ignition key to following years of Pontiac G6 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

worked perfect the security/lock light didnt go away after the 10 minutes but it still worked after the 30 minutes of doing the steps ...thank you

I have a 06 Pontiac g6 GTP and I hear from everyone that there are no diy options for programming keys. Look forward to trying this out.
The keys can be done as shown in the video but you cannot program the fobs yourself.

Car dealership said I had to tow in the car and get it programmed there tried this and it saved me so much! I only had to pay for the new key

Can confirm this works on a 2010 Pontiac g6. Spent $40 at a local GM dealership for the transponder key.( had to them make one based off the VIN.)
They told me to go to a local locksmith or have them tow it to the dealership. They wanted $200 for the tow and programming and the local locksmith wanted $175.
I did this procedure and after the 3rd time vehicle will start then die immediately it must didn't take the entire process

If the key wont turn the ignition that generally means it was not cut properly

If you do it wrong can you program a different key or try again or something or does it have to be taken to a dealership?
If you make a mistake during the procedure and are unsuccessful, you should be able to just start over. Make sure to remove the key from the ignition and open and close the drivers door a few times to "reset" before trying again

After breaking key in ignition I drilled out and still had access to positions on cylinder kept key close to ignition and started with screwdriver....well I recently lost rest of that key.......can I use this process by keeping key close as if in ignition and use process and steps like in video?

Mine didn't work. Set timer. 3 times. Security light didn't go out however.

I have a Pontiac G6 the security light will not go off
Did this, didn't work, after 3rd time it starts then dies, tried to redo procedure and light don't go out at all, still tried agian, same thing, starts then dies
If it starts and dies that means the key has not been programmed. If you have tried multiple times and are still not able to get it programmed, there may be an issue your key
It starts now however it shuts off after 5 seconds of running
That generally means the key is not programmed
What if my reset started to just flash on off on off on off on off and won't stop

Unfortunately there is no manual way to program the fobs - you will need an automotive locksmith or dealership

G6 new kew programing worked and csr starts but cut right back off.
it sounds like the key was not successfully programmed if the vehicle is shutting off right away
I just tried this and the security light turned off, every time for each 10 minutes but when I try to turn the ignition on it makes a sound like if the battery is dead but all the windows go down, the doors lock and the lights are on. Is this cause I did something wrong? I got a 2009 g6 gt (I had the key made at a dealership with the VIN)
Are you sure the battery in the vehicle is just not dead?
@@PYR-Auto it wasn’t completely lol each time it dies everything in the car turns off but this time everything still worked , your video helped though. the battery was my only problem, I’m back on the road now👍🏼

Btw it's an 07 g6 gtp 3.6 key & ignition switch came out a g6 3.5
My g6 sat for 3 years the key worked then but now it won't work is there a way to reprogram the key
The programming shown in the video. However, key should not just "loose" programming so there may be other issues with the vehicle

What if the light never goes off? It just stays on forever?
Try just going off of the time rather than the light. If that doesn't work there could be an issue with the key you are trying to use. Also, this procedure will only work for vehicles built for the U.S. market.

Can you use a used key and ignition switch. I lost my keys, I swapped the ignition switch from another g6. Using my original anti theft module and ecu. Swapping the ignition and key from another car! Will this program the key to my ecu and anti theft module? Ty in advance
I believe you will still need a new key but you should be able to use this procedure to program the new key. The transponder in the "old" key will be locked to the vehicle the ignition came out of.

this wont work if open door or turn on anything! windows must be up nothing on! dont touch anything open a door or window nothing, best way is to make car think door is closed manualy with screwdriver make latch shut.
You can open the doors during this procedure. I got out of the car each time between the 10 minute marks in the video as I always do with this procedure. You just cant do anything with the ignition ( turning on or starting ) other than exactly what is shown in the video during the procedure.
