I have a wooden box that my father made for me many, many years ago. It is one of my most precious treasures. Sometimes I run my hand over its smooth top and remember him, his hands as he worked on it, his not really a song sort of meandering whistle when he was working, and the deep feeling of peace and safety I felt in his presence. I imagine your daughter will treasure what you have made just for her. Her delighted “It’s for me!” Is so sweet.

Beautiful little piece, and Grats to the Kiddo! I have found few things more gratifying than offering as a gift something that you've made with your own hands. Last summer, while cleaning and organizing the garage, I stumbled across a 4 foot long piece of aspen that our oldest daughter had brought back from one of our trips to Colorado when she was about 8 or so. Milled it down and built a nice little lidded dovetailed box from it, trimmed with a bit of Osage orange that I had picked up from the park across the street from the first house we lived in that wasn't an awful student apartment. Her reaction on Christmas morning was not dissimilar to your daughter's, and about a month ago she texted me a picture of it filled with her dice and sitting on the table with all her friends on their last game night in the dorm before they graduated from college.
It's a very beautiful box that she'll treasure forever, I can imagine the story of how daddy made her the box being told to her children and grandchildren. Way to go Daddy. That was a very cool thing you did there. Congratulations on her exams, it's a tough time for children and certainly deserves a reward.

An absolutely lovely box, with beautiful wood. One of my earliest comments on your videos was about an issue you were having with resin, and trying to figure out what the solution was. The answer ended up being a pressure pot. So, I'm amused by the evolution over time.

When I made a vase with resin I put a handle down the sides too made it easier to put it in and take it out. Now the boxwood box looks excellent, I've not made one that big before but, I will be when my new lathe arrives later this week. A Record Power Coronet Regent Variable Speed, watching you unpacking yours and using it I had to get one.

When I made a vase with resin I put a handle down the sides too made it easier to put it in and take it out. Now the boxwood box looks excellent, I've not made one that big before but, I will be when my new lathe arrives later this week. A Record Power Coronet Regent Variable Speed, watching you unpacking yours and using it I had to get one.
