It was both remarkable and, a pleasure to watch, and of course, to listen to your commentary, an important must for mere observers to learn. That piece of wood started out absolutely gorgeous, but the first time you cleaned it with isopropyl, the grain almost made the wood look fluid it had so much motion in it. I 100% agree with one of the other commenters who said your piece was museum quality. It appears to be such a simple design, but it truly lets the wood shine through. Nicely done Mike.

    Hi Mike! I think we should start calling you “The Wood Whisperer “! As you have a magic touch and empathy with every piece of wood I’ve seen you touch!! When you first unwrapped it, I thought it was spalted beech or similar, trying to look at the pattern. I’ve never seen London Plane cut down, but my goodness! Isn’t it beautiful! And your imagination did it proud…such a beautiful result, almost like a delicate Vase you see the Japanese use for their three twig delicate arrangements- called Ikebana! ! I haven’t disliked or found fault with a single piece I’ve seen you turn, but this, as you said, was the most beautiful piece of wood in raw state, but transformed to absolutely stunning, by the time you had finished! Such gorgeous wood grain-so many intricate patterns I could gaze at for hours!
    Very well done as always Mike! And Thankyou for sharing your wood whispering with us! 👩‍🦳😘👏👏👏👏👍💫🥰xx

      @helencheadle5709 Месяц назад

      @ 🤭 didn’t mean to make you blush, but shows your nice human side! No! Just telling it as I see it!
      Can I just ask what “oil” it is you use? I can’t say the word, but I used Danish oil, and it’s Def not that! See, that’s another reason your such a brilliant “Wood Whisperer!” You know instinctively the right things to use! ( sorry Mike, I just think your so good at what you do/so in tune with each piece of wood, I just have to give you that title ! My youngest son also does wood turning, (three sons but lost my second suddenly to aggressive cancer and wood turning can be very therapeutic). I used to live in a village called Holme Next Sea, on the North norfolk coast, grew up there. After a bad storm a tree came down in the churchyard, Holm Oak. Unbeknownst to me, Richard sourced a good lump that was going firewood otherwise, and he secretly turned it into a beautiful chalice shaped cup/bowl for me. So I have a lovely piece of Holm Oak, from Holme!, where I grew up,! and had fallen close to my parent and grandparents graves. So I feel very bonded with that special piece. Sorry I waffled, but feel sad at losing my son, we were very close, and just felt I wanted to share my wood story with you!
      I genuinely meant everything I said earlier….your a lovely man, very empathic and I’m so glad I’ve found your channel! Just take care with very large pieces! I recall that piece flying off the lathe a short while ago, glad it didn’t land on your foot! My heart was in my mouth!
      Love and light Helen 👩‍🦳💫🥰xx

      @@helencheadle5709 Hi Helen, so so sorry to hear about your son, I can't even begin to imagine how hard it must have been and still is. Our children are everything to us, we have three sons and a daughter, we also have two foster daughters who have lived with us for over 5 years. Holm oak is probably my favourite wood, I first turned a piece a couple of years ago and was amazed by the grain it is so unique! Where we live now I have a holm oak in the back garden and it's huge are beautiful, I keep getting tempted to take off a limb to do something with but not sure my landlord would be too happy lol. Woodturning is very therapeutic, it helps me relax and when I'm turning it's like everything around me disappears. I have had to put a clock close to my lathe so I can keep an eye on the time or I could get into rouble lol. Thanks again for your message and love and best wishes to you and your family, Mike
