Such a pretty result from a mishmash of things. Fantastic design as always and I agree that holm oak is beautiful. I never know what you will come up with next! It makes for addictive viewing....
“It’s a horrible combination. It’s gonna be fun” Your spirit of adventure fosters creative genius. Adding that lovely oak lid pulled the whole crazy quilt of colors into balance. What a fun experiment. So whimsical. I keep thinking what an awesome button box that would be.
I reckon the cost of shipping it to the UK would be prohibitive. Not sure if any of the big box stores over here stock that kind of thing, and I don't think Mike does enough resin work to make it viable. Good thought though!
I never had the pleasure of working with the holm oak. It’s a beautiful compliment to balance out the “business” of the bottom. Great job Mike, as always!
A timeless piece...across a century. You could place that in any era...20's , 30's , 40's .......etc etc and, it wouldn't look out of place. Excellent work of craftsmanship, beautiful too.Nice one Mike.👍👍
Mike, I think your videos are really great. Unlike some other woodturner’s who seem to miraculously turn out museum pieces every time without a word of explanation, your practical and down to earth commentaries are very useful to aspiring woodturner’s like me. The pieces you produce are excellent and I intend to use your videos as a guide to some future projects I want to do. Thank you for what you do and please just keep doing it. In my opinion you deserve 10 times the number of subscribers that you have and hopefully you’ll get there very soon. Well done.
Thanks so much David, your words mean so much and I'm so glad I can help inspire people to have a go. I'm not a great woodturner, but I'm always happy to give something a go and share the journey no matter the outcome. All the best, Mike
What I think is brilliant are the endless possibilities for ideas using resin, even the waste from the magnificent pot you made could be turned into another item ❤️ it
Buying those offcuts turned into a beautiful piece of art, with that lid wow! Gorgeous! Well done Mike. You listened to your soul, knowing you would make something incredible out of it.❤😊 x
This piece really appeals to me. I love it! And the holm oak makes a beautiful lid which contrasts so well with colours in the bowl. Yip definitely one of my "feel good" favourites 😊 Thanks Mike, for sharing your weekly creativity with us. And definitely worked out a good decision to buy 🙃 Have a super evening 🤗
Hello Mike, I think you have brought a new meaning to “trash to treasure”. This really is a rather lovely lidded bowl that would merit pride of place in any setting. I think you should try and buy more of these off cuts - they certainly bring out the talent in you. And we will get to see what wonders you can create with them. Have a good week and I will look forward to watching your next video.
this turned out just lovely! i thought it was a great idea to use someone else's off cuts, and it was not a silly idea at all to buy them :) glad you did!!!! congrats on 2 yrs, and many more to come!
With a few hurdles to tackle you've once again smashed it out of the park. Great choice of colours and i just love it when Artists let nothing go to waste. Thanks for sharing!
The colors worked much better together than I expected. I was lunging for the screen crying, "NOOOOOOO!" But it's like all the different wood hues and resin chunks balanced everything out. Good job!
You know that dinner invite? Was it risotto you were making? Seems my wife will be washing her hair that night. This pot is more 1970's than the whole of 1970 put together. I absolutely love it in its crazy colours and mottled heritage. The lid makes it. Everything in life is a trade-off, good separate colours means you couldn't shake it up too much and left you air pockets. Mike you are so level headed and just take this stuff in your stride. Wood turning, conversation and wonderful art. It's all there. Did you make the chunks on your new rock-band saw? The remaining offcuts will make excellent giant mug handles...
A stunning result from 'scraps' Mike. I do like the wooden lid with its very strong grain. Lovely video to watch so thanks for sharing. cheers, Don from South Australia.
Hi Mike, as always you make something that you thought was a mistake into something brilliant. Your choices for the design also turned out to be fantastically simple but artistic as well. I think I'm saying I like what you did. Trash into Treasure. Thanks for the video looking forward to the next one. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hi Mike, Milliputty softens well after 10 to 12 seconds in the microwave. Might save a bit of time for the future. Love your designs and such a gentle way of adding the voice. Thanks for all your effort.
I was doubting the outcome of this bowl at first. Wow, it came out amazing. A very attractive piece, and that choice of wood for the lid just put it over the top! I love the shape of this piece and the finial too. Everything came together beautifully.
Thanks so much, I was looking at this for four days waiting for it to dry thinking I may have made a mistake but as soon as it popped out the mould I knew we would be ok 😀
Great job. I've done a small one basically using scraps. Was surprised how quickly it was snapped up at a craft fair. There is a lot of interest in these type of unique items. Well done!
You went and bought what??!! This new workshop is affecting your thinking processes? Ha Ha! - no off cuts in your own workshop? ... but then the magic starts ... pieces of woods you might not have had yourself, some colours, a fine mix of resins and "Hey Presto!", another simple design to showcase the pot, and Yes, that Holm Oak lid is special and sets off the base perfectly. A joy to watch, as always; Well Done, Mike, Well Done indeed!!
Beautifully done and it has inspired me to tackle some of my own off cuts which have taken over quite an embarrassing amount of room in my shop. Also the new shop has fantastic lighting!
Thanks Bill, I have had to spend a fair amount on lighting over the lathe! There are two large warehouse units above and two specialist filming lights to the side lol 😀
The holm oak(?) is spectacular! The piece is too busy for me, but I love how resin makes it possible to make beautiful pieces out of scrap wood, or wood that would have been relegated to firewood before.
Very nice. The offcuts and epoxy remind me of a homemade quilt and the clean shape is a nice, sleek design which adds up to a nice contrast in styles in my opinion. Sweet! 👍
You inspired me to make a totally different form of pet urn. People tend to want more colour in the urns. And the size fits for bigger dogs as well. I'm going to use my own offcuts. Thanks for sharing.
Ok.. once that lid went on, I was sold! The grain of the wood and design you did with it was just beautiful!
Thanks Alison, so pleased I chose that wood for the lid 😀
absolutely agree
I really like the way that you said these colours don't go with each other, then proceed to prove yourself wrong.
It's a stunning pot.
Haha I know, I was a little disappointed when it worked out so well lol 😀
Such a pretty result from a mishmash of things. Fantastic design as always and I agree that holm oak is beautiful. I never know what you will come up with next! It makes for addictive viewing....
Thank you so much Rachel, I have no idea either so it's interesting this end as well lol 😀
“It’s a horrible combination. It’s gonna be fun”
Your spirit of adventure fosters creative genius. Adding that lovely oak lid pulled the whole crazy quilt of colors into balance. What a fun experiment. So whimsical.
I keep thinking what an awesome button box that would be.
Haha yes I think it would be perfect for buttons 😂
Harbor freight sells a 2 and a half gallon pressure pot ... That might come in handy?? 16:56
I reckon the cost of shipping it to the UK would be prohibitive. Not sure if any of the big box stores over here stock that kind of thing, and I don't think Mike does enough resin work to make it viable. Good thought though!
I do need one but not easy to find in the UK for a reasonable price.
You're right Phil but I do need to get one I think
Even when you are doing things you think are “crazy,” and “horrible,” you make true art.
I think I'm just lucky 😀
You said it one man's trash is another man's treasure. Good job.
Thanks! 😀
I used to do commercial sewing
Anything scrap that could be made into something else was
Gravy
Really like that
Thanks so much Val 😀
"these colours are horrible together" then goes ahead anyway 😂 - but it worked! What a great bowl. The holm oak is lovely 😊
Thanks so much, I was slightly disappointed the colours looked so good together 🤣😊
I agree, what’s up with that? Are you actually trying to make something look ghastly? Well you failed so there!
@@MaryHyso I wanted it to make an impact and make more of a statement lol, failed completley
Great video. Clever way of making most if scrap. The lid makes it .
What are the different finishes that you used
This has to be my favourite of your pieces. Brilliant way to use those bits left over.
Thank you! Cheers Simon 😁
Beautiful 🤩 looks like it should be a liquorice Alsorts storage pot lol.
Great idea with the rice to gauge the amount of epoxy needed 👍🏼
Thanks so much 😊
Just simply gorgeous. Now that I'm retired I hope to spend enough time in my shop to turn and become 1/10th as talented as you are.
Hi William, I'm not that good I'm just not afraid to fail. If you fail enough you become good because you learn each time.
I never had the pleasure of working with the holm oak. It’s a beautiful compliment to balance out the “business” of the bottom. Great job Mike, as always!
Thanks Joe, it's not easy to get hold of but if you do come across any I urge you to get it 😀
A timeless piece...across a century. You could place that in any era...20's , 30's , 40's .......etc etc and, it wouldn't look out of place. Excellent work of craftsmanship, beautiful too.Nice one Mike.👍👍
Thanks Pete, appreciate it 😀
I'm so happy you're back! I really fancy that lidded bowl. It's very pretty. Thank you for sharing your artistry with us. ❤
You are so welcome Matilda ☺️

You took scrap and turned it into a beautiful treasure box . I love the simple design and the use of color.
Thank you so much Lisa 😀
I agree with your commentary regarding the color combination and the comparison to buying another person's off cuts.
Thanks Archie 😁
Nice job making a treasure out of it. I can't wait to get equipped for resin work. @@MikeHolton
I really like how this item came out. All the different colors and grains. Beautiful!!
Thanks Bob, I think this one surprised a lot of people, especially me 😀
I love your initial distaste for the two colours you selected yet the end product is beautiful.
Thank you so much Damian 😃
What I think is brilliant are the endless possibilities for ideas using resin, even the waste from the magnificent pot you made could be turned into another item ❤️ it
Thanks so much and you are so right 😊
The pot reminds me of trifle. I think it turned out great. The lid makes the pot. I love your humour. A job well done. That oak is beautiful.
Thanks so much Cindy 😀
Turned out much better than I anticipated!
Me too Sherry 😀
Buying those offcuts turned into a beautiful piece of art, with that lid wow! Gorgeous! Well done Mike. You listened to your soul, knowing you would make something incredible out of it.❤😊 x
Thanks so much Shelley 😀
Bits and bobs make a truly beautiful bowl as this turning shows, so, well done Mike it looks great.
Many thanks Ron 😀
Wow, usually not a fan of throwing scraps into resin but your selection of off cuts and arrangement and the lid really made it pop!
Thanks! 😀
What a stunning pot made from the off cuts. I think the colors are just fine. I enjoy your explanations too.
Thanks so much Mary😊
Love the pot, Mike. Buying the off-cuts was a brilliant choice.
Thanks Steve 😀
That turned out better than I thought it would, the design and colours are amazing, another great piece !
Thank you so much 😀
A beautiful way to use cut offs. The lid is very nice. Another great video.
Thank you! Cheers Chris 😀
I love it Mike, it's simplicity is what makes it so beautiful.
Thanks Rena, this one was just so much fun to make 😀
The finishing touch for me was that satisfying clicks clunk when the lid was put on.
Lovely, and a great video👌
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it! 😀
I think it turned out pretty nice, who doesn’t love to experiment!
I know Shannon, this was a lot of fun 😀
Nice use of scraps.
I love the grain of the Holm oak. I have never seen it before.
Another beautiful piece.
Thanks
Thanks Barry, I just wish I could get hold of more 😀
The depth illusion on the bottom was amazing, where the mica and grains surrounding it
Thanks, I really like the look of it 😊
This piece really appeals to me. I love it!
And the holm oak makes a beautiful lid which contrasts so well with colours in the bowl.

Really retro, that bowl! Unique way of using offcuts. I do like your imagination. Great video, as always. Many thanks.
Thanks Shaun 😀
The colors worked much better together than I expected. I was lunging for the screen crying, "NOOOOOOO!" But it's like all the different wood hues and resin chunks balanced everything out. Good job!

Wood turning, conversation and wonderful art. It's all there.
Did you make the chunks on your new rock-band saw?
The remaining offcuts will make excellent giant mug handles...
Thanks! I cut them all on my miter saw. So happy with the way this came out 😄
You're right about that Holm Oak; very nice indeed.
It really is, just wish I could get more 😀
A stunning result from 'scraps' Mike. I do like the wooden lid with its very strong grain. Lovely video to watch so thanks for sharing. cheers, Don from South Australia.

Thanks for the tip! It took me so long to mix them lol 😀
Simply gorgeous, I hope you make more of them.
Thank you, I will but will be trying other things first 😀
Wow, what a wonderful piece! Ah, great color combination, and great idea to buy someone else's trash to turn (pun not intended) into your treasure.
Thank you very much Shelley
Very beautiful and a wonderful use of what most would consider scrap pieces

Incredible! Unique and really lovely, so well executed. Smooches for Hooch!! 😘😘😘
Thanks Amie, Hooch sends kisses 😀
Amazing project with stunning effect great contrast with lid

Those colors really set off the look Mike! I have a ton of off-cuts laying around the garage, too. Have a great day!
Thanks Jim, I expect to be seeing yours in a bowl soon 😀
Such a pretty jar! (And the tennis ball--brilliant!)
Haha thanks, always handy to have a tennis ball about 😀
Love the sound that the lid makes when you close it. Nice and tight! What a lovely peice. :D
Thank you 😋

I love this one. Alle the different pieces make it interesting, almost kind of a journey through the different woods
I know there are about 5/6 species in there 😀
Interesting creation Mike, it turned out very nice. Thanks for taking us on your journey of discovery!
Glad you enjoyed it😁
Thought for certain you were heading towards creating a dog’s breakfast, but WOW! A midcentury modern delight. So fun to watch, thank you.
Thanks Elisabeth, I may have to make a dogs bowl although I have 2 dogs so would have to make 2 😀
Love it, the mix of materials is fabulous.. no end to your talents..
Thanks so much Mary 😊
Another great project Mike..That Holm lid really sets it off. A joy to watch, take care Steve
Thanks Steve 😀
I really like the randomness of the offcuts! The oak is beautiful, great choice!

Very nice, the use of another mans scraps, turned out beautiful, the grain on the top is very interesting.

I had my doubts on this one but you made the magic happen once again.
Thanks Christine, it was a bit of an interesting one 😀
Waste not want not !!!. Never a truer word said in this case 😊. Stunning result as ever, thanks for sharing with us.
My pleasure 😊

Thanks David, I have loads of offcuts but these are nicer 😂
Spectacular! I think I would have inset a tiny bit of the blue resin in the center of the lid handle to tie them together
That would be cool! Thanks Terry 😀
Hi Mike. I really like this project! Didn't think I'd like your color choices but I like them a lot. Beautiful work as always. Thanks.
Thanks Cathy, I hated my colour choices but they really worked, I must be lucky lol 😀
The milliput blends in well . Nice piece .
Thank you! Cheers! 😀
The end result was amazing. As you say, the wood for the lid has just the greatest grain to it.
Thanks Stephen, it really does 😁
Great result Mike. You must be very pleased with it, after your initial disappointment when the cut-off pieces arrived
Thanks Ruth, I'm over the moon with the way it came out 😀
Well done,Mike. I do prefer natural-shape off-cuts as opposed to saw cuts but you've done a masterful job with what you had.
Me too but like you said it's what I had to work with 😀
Turned out very nice, colours wotk well together.
Thank you Kathy 😀
‧Amazing what can be done with scraps and epoxy . Great job Mike !
Thanks Jon 😀
I didn’t think I was going to like this; but it’s really beautiful.
Thanks 👍
The holm oak(?) is spectacular! The piece is too busy for me, but I love how resin makes it possible to make beautiful pieces out of scrap wood, or wood that would have been relegated to firewood before.
Thank you very much! 😀
I love the solid wood lid with the resin/cutoffs. It’s a nice contrast. Thanks Mike!
Glad you like it Brenda, I love the combination 😀
Very nice. The offcuts and epoxy remind me of a homemade quilt and the clean shape is a nice, sleek design which adds up to a nice contrast in styles in my opinion. Sweet! 👍
Thank you very much Tom 😀
Excellent work as always Mike, love the contrast between the two parts.
Many thanks Stu 😀
It is lovely, Mike! You could use the off cuts to create segments also. Lots of work, but they are so pretty.
Thanks Jane and I am considering this for the rest 😀
Simply Lovely! And great recycling, too.
Thank you Jan 😊
You inspired me to make a totally different form of pet urn. People tend to want more colour in the urns. And the size fits for bigger dogs as well. I'm going to use my own offcuts. Thanks for sharing.
That is awesome Kerstin, they will be beautiful!! 😀
Another piece of art Mike. Its lovely and the lid really elevates it . Well done! 😊
Thank you so much 😀
Excellent way of using rhe scrp pieces that are generated from turning ending with a great looking piece. The Holm oak looking to have a nice grain
Thank you very much Paul 😌
Thank you very much Paul 😌
It is really something special, I really like all of it.
Thanks so much Lis 😀
