I really like the way that you said these colours don't go with each other, then proceed to prove yourself wrong.
It's a stunning pot.
Haha I know, I was a little disappointed when it worked out so well lol 😀
You said it one man's trash is another man's treasure. Good job.
Thanks! 😀
Ok.. once that lid went on, I was sold! The grain of the wood and design you did with it was just beautiful!
Thanks Alison, so pleased I chose that wood for the lid 😀
absolutely agree
"these colours are horrible together" then goes ahead anyway 😂 - but it worked! What a great bowl. The holm oak is lovely 😊
Thanks so much, I was slightly disappointed the colours looked so good together 🤣😊
I agree, what’s up with that? Are you actually trying to make something look ghastly? Well you failed so there!
@@user-jh7ji3lq3c I wanted it to make an impact and make more of a statement lol, failed completley
Great video. Clever way of making most if scrap. The lid makes it .
What are the different finishes that you used
Even when you are doing things you think are “crazy,” and “horrible,” you make true art.
I think I'm just lucky 😀
This has to be my favourite of your pieces. Brilliant way to use those bits left over.
Thank you! Cheers Simon 😁
Beautiful piece, love seeing the addition of resin to your work!
Thank you very much Theresa ☺️
I'm so happy you're back! I really fancy that lidded bowl. It's very pretty. Thank you for sharing your artistry with us. ❤
You are so welcome Matilda ☺️
A timeless piece...across a century. You could place that in any era...20's , 30's , 40's .......etc etc and, it wouldn't look out of place. Excellent work of craftsmanship, beautiful too.Nice one Mike.👍👍
Thanks Pete, appreciate it 😀
I never had the pleasure of working with the holm oak. It’s a beautiful compliment to balance out the “business” of the bottom. Great job Mike, as always!
Thanks Joe, it's not easy to get hold of but if you do come across any I urge you to get it 😀
Just simply gorgeous. Now that I'm retired I hope to spend enough time in my shop to turn and become 1/10th as talented as you are.
Hi William, I'm not that good I'm just not afraid to fail. If you fail enough you become good because you learn each time.
The end result was amazing. As you say, the wood for the lid has just the greatest grain to it.
Thanks Stephen, it really does 😁
I really like how this item came out. All the different colors and grains. Beautiful!!
Thanks Bob, I think this one surprised a lot of people, especially me 😀
I love it Mike, it's simplicity is what makes it so beautiful.
Thanks Rena, this one was just so much fun to make 😀
I think it turned out pretty nice, who doesn’t love to experiment!
I know Shannon, this was a lot of fun 😀
Mike, I think your videos are really great. Unlike some other woodturner’s who seem to miraculously turn out museum pieces every time without a word of explanation, your practical and down to earth commentaries are very useful to aspiring woodturner’s like me. The pieces you produce are excellent and I intend to use your videos as a guide to some future projects I want to do. Thank you for what you do and please just keep doing it. In my opinion you deserve 10 times the number of subscribers that you have and hopefully you’ll get there very soon. Well done.
Thanks so much David, your words mean so much and I'm so glad I can help inspire people to have a go. I'm not a great woodturner, but I'm always happy to give something a go and share the journey no matter the outcome. All the best, Mike
I could not imagine that it would turn out so beautifully! Awesome, awesome, awesome!!
Thanks Dianne, glad you like it 😁
Waste Not, Want Not. Nicely done...
Thanks Harvey 😀
I really like the randomness of the offcuts! The oak is beautiful, great choice!
Thanks so much Mark 😀
You inspired me to make a totally different form of pet urn. People tend to want more colour in the urns. And the size fits for bigger dogs as well. I'm going to use my own offcuts. Thanks for sharing.
That is awesome Kerstin, they will be beautiful!! 😀
That turned out better than I thought it would, the design and colours are amazing, another great piece !
Thank you so much 😀
What I think is brilliant are the endless possibilities for ideas using resin, even the waste from the magnificent pot you made could be turned into another item ❤️ it
Thanks so much and you are so right 😊
I love your initial distaste for the two colours you selected yet the end product is beautiful.
Thank you so much Damian 😃
Hello Mike, I think you have brought a new meaning to “trash to treasure”. This really is a rather lovely lidded bowl that would merit pride of place in any setting. I think you should try and buy more of these off cuts - they certainly bring out the talent in you. And we will get to see what wonders you can create with them. Have a good week and I will look forward to watching your next video.
Thanks so much Angela, I was really not sure about this at the start but so happy the way it came out 😁
Wow, usually not a fan of throwing scraps into resin but your selection of off cuts and arrangement and the lid really made it pop!
Thanks! 😀
Got an 80s vibe about the design nice! Great as always
Thanks! 😀
The color separation worked great. Another beautiful piece of work
Thanks Eric, I'm pretty pleased with the separation 😀
I am in love with the off-cuts and what you made!
Thanks Angela 😀
The finishing touch for me was that satisfying clicks clunk when the lid was put on.
Lovely, and a great video👌
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it! 😀
Buying those offcuts turned into a beautiful piece of art, with that lid wow! Gorgeous! Well done Mike. You listened to your soul, knowing you would make something incredible out of it.❤😊 x
Thanks so much Shelley 😀
I didn’t think I was going to like this; but it’s really beautiful.
Thanks 👍
Wow!!! Another beautiful creation by the master.
Thanks Wes lol 😀
What a stunning pot made from the off cuts. I think the colors are just fine. I enjoy your explanations too.
Thanks so much Mary😊
this turned out just lovely! i thought it was a great idea to use someone else's off cuts, and it was not a silly idea at all to buy them :) glad you did!!!! congrats on 2 yrs, and many more to come!
Thanks so much Dee, you have made me feel better 😊
Another belter, Mike!! I don't care whose off-cuts they are, in your hands they become "yours"!
By the way, according to Jim Sprague, a useful rule of thumb when using the "rice method" to work out how much resin you need... Once you have the amount of rice, multiply by 1.4. This will be the amount of resin you need, taking into account the gaps between the wood, and the space between the grains of rice. Hope this helps!
Thanks Phil, I would say it is a little less as you not need to allow for the gaps between the rice as they are still there when you put them in a measuring pot.
Now that's literally "turning" a frown upside down!!! lol. Well done sir!
Thanks so much Rusty 😀
Thought for certain you were heading towards creating a dog’s breakfast, but WOW! A midcentury modern delight. So fun to watch, thank you.
Thanks Elisabeth, I may have to make a dogs bowl although I have 2 dogs so would have to make 2 😀
Love the pot, Mike. Buying the off-cuts was a brilliant choice.
Thanks Steve 😀
your problem solving skills are impressive.
Thanks Miri 😀
Stunning! I love the juxtaposition of the resin and the wood! ❤
Thank you so much Liza ☺️
It's beautiful. I love the oak with the off cuts and the colors are just fabulous. 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉
Thank you so much Jodi 😀
Very beautiful and a wonderful use of what most would consider scrap pieces
Thank you so much! 😀
Such a pretty result from a mishmash of things. Fantastic design as always and I agree that holm oak is beautiful. I never know what you will come up with next! It makes for addictive viewing....
Thank you so much Rachel, I have no idea either so it's interesting this end as well lol 😀
I had my doubts on this one but you made the magic happen once again.
Thanks Christine, it was a bit of an interesting one 😀
Wow, what a wonderful piece! Ah, great color combination, and great idea to buy someone else's trash to turn (pun not intended) into your treasure.
Thank you very much Shelley
That turned out pretty nice. I agree. I love the wood the lid is made from.
Thank you! Cheers! 😀
It is really something special, I really like all of it.
Thanks so much Lis 😀
I agree with your commentary regarding the color combination and the comparison to buying another person's off cuts.
Thanks Archie 😁
Nice job making a treasure out of it. I can't wait to get equipped for resin work. @@MikeHolton

I know there are about 5/6 species in there 😀
You're right about that Holm Oak; very nice indeed.

Beautiful 🤩 looks like it should be a liquorice Alsorts storage pot lol.
Great idea with the rice to gauge the amount of epoxy needed 👍🏼

Those colors really set off the look Mike! I have a ton of off-cuts laying around the garage, too. Have a great day!
Thanks Jim, I expect to be seeing yours in a bowl soon 😀
Super cool hybrid piece. That lid really sets it off!
Thanks Jeramiah 😀
Buying the trash of others, using colours you call horrible - and creating something really beautiful... you really trust in your instincts... ;)
Haha I'm so glad you do because sometimes I have my doubts lol 😀
That looks amazing!! Great creativity.
Thanks so much Brian 😀
Hi Mike, as always you make something that you thought was a mistake into something brilliant. Your choices for the design also turned out to be fantastically simple but artistic as well. I think I'm saying I like what you did. Trash into Treasure. Thanks for the video looking forward to the next one. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you very much Roy, must admit I did have my doubts while I was waiting for it to cure but so happy with the way it came out
Very nice. I really hate turning resin due to the absolute mess it makes, but fun to watch.
Haha thanks, it does get everywhere 🤣
It’s beautiful
Thanks! 😀
Turned out great!
Thanks Matt 😀
Stunning! I gotta be honest, when I first saw that box of scraps, I thought it would be a bit too busy with all the different woods and resins, but the colors that you chose along with that holm oak lid really brought the whole thing together in such an amazing way!
Thanks Steve, I'm pretty pleased with this one 😀
